This is a fun place. Reminds me of some really great fun sushi restaurants I've been to in other parts of the country. It was pretty busy on a Friday night at 7pm. We came after visiting one of the nearby breweries. We were seated right away at the bar. I had a glass of the Black River sake and my boyfriend tried the Blossom of Peace. His was much sweeter and I was very happy with mine. They weren't served in traditional sake cups, just in regular wine glasses but this was good with me as they were a normal sized wine pour. They had a special for Bluefin Tuna. We shared the Nigiri trio by cutting each piece in half. My favorites were the two fattier cuts ( otoro, and chutoro ) I remember at this point we wished we had ordered another appetizer since the restaurant was busy and our main sushi rolls took a bit of time to arrive. We decided next time we would at least get the edamame in between plates. The rolls we ordered were the Ponzu Jello and Riverwest. The Riverwest description listed a smoky miso mayo which I did not notice a different from regular flavored mayo on a roll. The Ponzu Jello was unique and worth trying! The rolls were fat and very filling so we did not need to order more than two! I think we both agreed that the Riverwest roll was our favorite of the two. After that we noticed there was a special for some premium sake, so we ordered the G Joy. Very delicious, easy to drink and a perfect size to share. One of my top 5 favorite restaurants in Milwaukee, with a fusion of Asian flavors: Thai, Japanese, etc. my go-to dish is the Duck Curry, and the Green salad is an great compliment because the Ginger dressing is sublime. On the weekends, they had a great sashimi platter, as well. The ambiance is cute and I love the paintings around the restaurant. Always packed, so get there early at 4:30pm when they open. read more

Rice N Roll is our favorite sushi spot in Milwaukee so far. Every roll was a hit! My favorite was probably the shrimp tempura (lame I know) but it was so flavorful and the eel sauce on it was perfect. David's favorite was the Dragon followed by the Clumsy Bueno. His least favorite was the crunchy California because he wasn't the biggest fan of how the outside was warm and inside was a little mushy. However, I really enjoyed it!! Overall, we really enjoyed Rice N Roll and will definitely be back the next time we are craving sushi! We left completely stuffed. read more

The teriyaki chicken is always so fulfilling with the vegetables and rice. The eggrolls were tasty too. Perfect crunch and the center was not mushy. I loveddddd the edamame. I was my first time having it and I will eat it for the rest of my life. It tastes like a french fry with all the salt but it's a fresh pop of green. I might even try the spicy version next time. My friend and I decided to try Rice N Roll for a recent lunch outing. The restaurant is fairly small, but they do offer outdoor seating in the summer. The service was attentive. I think our server was in training or training someone else, but it didn't affect anything. We'd eaten at Kin by Rice N Roll in the past and really enjoyed the food. Rice N Roll to me was not quite as good or as on point. My salad was served in a small, high bowl and it was really hard to eat. The cucumber slices in it were enormous and with no knife, awkward. My sushi was good overall, but my futomaki roll wasn't rolled tight enough, which made it fall apart and again, hard to eat. My friend enjoyed her bento box, which she had with chicken pad thai. Ordered a variety of food with some friends for takeaway. I cannot speak to the establishment itself, but the carry out process was smooth and quick. The restaurant is on the smaller side and was a bit crowded when we picked up our food on a week night. There are a couple tables outside when the weather is nice. We ordered pad Thai, a green salad with ginger dressing, a classy Cali roll, mantou, rice and roll dumplings, pad see eiw, and green curry. A small feast. The pad Thai was disappointing and the classy Cali roll was mediocre, but everything else was delicious! This place was incredible! The restaurant was small with limited seating, which I did read from other yelp reviews, so we arrived right as they opened and were able to sit down immediately. Within 20-30 minutes, the rest of the tables were filled on a Saturday night. We ordered edamame and the Flaming Tuna Crispy Rice appetizer. The Crispy rice is a fried block of rice with tuna and different sauces on top. The flavors were so delicious! Definitely recommend for something a little different. We also ordered 4 rolls - a spicy salmon, the Munchie Munchie, the Sexy Summer, and the Awesome roll. Everything was great. We found Rice N Roll through Yelp while visiting Milwaukee and were really excited because of its stellar reviews. While food was good, service was bad. We ordered the Awesome roll, Mega Salmon roll, and Munchie Munchie roll. Munchie Munchie roll was our favorite with its seared salmon and crunchy temperate inside. Awesome roll had fresh big pieces of fish. Mega Salmon was ok, the purple rice was a little hard and we did not like the mayo topping but that's just personal preference. Overall it was good sushi. However we did feel our server Wera was a little rude and did not treat us the same way as other customers. Her attitude towards us was very cold (never smiled once, never said more than "are you ready to order") but we observed she was very friendly and conversational with other customers. She also actively refilled water at other tables but only refilled mine when requested (and ONLY refilled mine even though my husband's water glass was also empty). She also didn't bother saying a word when she brought our check. We ended up leaving a tip that was a bit below average and saw her inspecting the receipt at the register. She then tossed the receipt on our table without saying a word and walked away. I understand this is a popular restaurant and it's hard for servers to pay attention to everything when things are busy. However it did not feel like this was the case because we very clearly observed how others were treated versus how we were treated. Again the food was great. But no amount of good food can make up for the terrible experience created by bad service and feeling of being treated differently. read more

I came here on a Saturday night with some friends, and it was quite busy, so be prepared in advance! The restaurant itself is pretty small, but it doesn't feel too tight. Though it was busy we were seated pretty quickly. We started ugh crab Rangoon, which was plated and served in a unique way. We also ordered the Thai cashew chicken and three sushi rolls. The plating of the sushi was well done and it was clear the chef took time to do thinks well. I enjoyed the flavors of the sushi, although the spicy tuna was a bit disappointing, as the texture was much different from previous rolls I've tried. Overall I would definitely want to come back and I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a dinner spot. Found this via Yelp that was close by when leaving the city to head home. So glad we went. Chanced it on a saturday evening at 7 pm and only had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Yes this place is small but the layout and wall murals really made the vibe. Started with Edamame (came out hot and delicious) and house salad which has an amazing ginger dressing. Tried the Ebi Keki appetizer and it did not disappoint. Crisp-Hot and the aioli dipping sauce was a great combo. After dipping the roll in the aioli make sure to to sop up the straw noodles with it. My wife had a california roll and the duo funghi roll. Enjoyed both but said the tempura battered mushrooms muted the flavor of them. I had "Call Me Crazy" roll for which the dollop of sirachha on top really worked incredibly well. I also had the Yaki Maki - Excellent flavor in the combination. This is my all time favorite place to go to when I am craving Japanese and Thai food simultaneously. They have a sister location called Kin in Wauwatosa which serves basically the same items. The wonderful thing about this place is that their food is consistent in terms of flavor and quantity and the pricing is very reasonable considering it's in on the east side of Milwaukee. Also, since everything is inflated right now, I am surprised that their price stayed the same, which is AMAZING because (say it with me) WE. LIKE. CONSISTENCY! (: As previously mentioned, it is located on the east side and off of Farewell Ave so parking can be challenging. Make sure you prepare to drive around a few times during busy hours. Farewell Ave is a one way street with many restaurants, shops and apartment buildings so with moving and parked cars, you have to basically be a professional parallel Parker once you find a spot. Also, the parking police LOVES to ticket on that street for some reason so make sure that you DONT park in a loading zone... They will get ya. (The only reason why I docked a star = PARKING) In terms of the service, I would say that the more busy they are, the less attentive the servers will be to their customers. For a smaller establishment, I would expect otherwise but serving is hard and of course, we don't know what other things they have to do besides just serving so lets give them the benefit of the doubt. But generally, they are friendly, quick and polite. As far as the food ... UM 10/10. I have tried different dishes and am blown away at how good all of the dishes I have ordered have been. For appetizers, if you're craving Thai Apps - I would highly recommend the Tom Yum Soup (if you're into spicy and sour soups). For a richer version of Tom Yum, try the Tom Kha. Both are so delicious and it reminds me of authentic soups in Thailand. The chicken satay are grilled chicken skewers served with peanut sauce - this is so good and so tender. Rice and Roll knows how to grill their chicken to where it is not dry and that's what I live for. If you're craving Japanese appetizers, hands down the Flaming Tuna Crispy Rice. Listen .... I don't know what they put in this dish but it is absolutely delicious and I promise you will come back for more. As far as sushi, the signature rolls can run up to $20, which is pretty standard for the Midwest. It is pretty good for sushi on the East Side of Milwaukee. The rice is cooked just right and not too dry, the ratio between fish and rice is ideal and the presentation is exquisite. Rolls that I would recommend are: Awesome Roll, Call Me Crazy, and East Side Roll. In terms of Thai Entrees - simply put, it truly reminds me of my trip in Thailand. The Pad Thai is wet with a good portion of protein (I usually order chicken) and the sauce evenly coats the thin rice noodles. They even put the peanuts on the side. Other entrees I recommend: Basil Fried Rice, Green Curry, Pad See Eew, Panang Curry ,Green Curry and the Spicy Basil. All in all, I LOVE THIS PLACE. I have been here so many times and as soon as the food comes out, I immediately dig in. That's why I don't have a lot of photos of the things I have recommended but stay tune because I will update more photos as I keep coming back.
