We have been to this restaurant three times now and have been generally pleased with our experiences each time. I usually get the sushi lunch set, and my husband typically gets the panang curry. We've also tried several appetizers; the gyoza were decent, the fish cakes were tasty, and the tom kha soup is quite good. Prices are a little steep for appetizers. The chicken in the panang curry tended to be rather overcooked, but the sauce is fantastic. The spicy tuna roll is good, the Alaska roll is standard fare, but the Fire Dragon roll was excellent. We also tried the Milwaukee roll and that was good too. My only significant complaint is that the sushi set has increased in price (by removing one of the items you're allowed to get with it). On my two previous experiences, you could get two classic sushi rolls, a miso soup, and either spring rolls or crab rangoon. On this last visit, they've redesigned the lunch set menu and now for the same price ($15.95) you can still get two classic sushi rolls, but then you only get a choice of one side -- soup or fried item or salad item. That's disappointing. They do offer the choice of getting a premium sushi roll instead of the two classic rolls for the same price, or for $23.95 you can get even more (though I don't recall the specifics). So while I previously thought the sushi lunch set was an excellent value for the price, I was bummed that they'd reduced the amount of food you enjoy for the price instead. And as a sidenote, the Thai tea is smallish in size compared to what you can get at other similar Thai restaurants. At $4.50 it's not that great a deal. All that said, I'll be back for that Fire Dragon roll. That thing was excellent. read more

This was the first time I tried raw fish and I actually loved it. I don't remember the roll's name but it had like a crunchy pear. The california roll that I had was sooo good. It had like tempura flakes on top. It was the perfect texture balance with the fish egg's saltiness and the pop in your mouth. We chose to eat in and waited nearly an hour for all of our dishes to arrive. We ordered two simple rolls and pad see eiw. Many other tables were clearly waiting for their food as well, but it wasn't crowded and there seem to be plenty of wait staff. Our waitress said the delay was due to "all of the DoorDashes." I hope the restaurant will seriously consider changing how they fill orders, perhaps by delaying incoming DoorDash orders in favor of the customers who are already sitting inside their restaurant space! read more

Okay, okay, okay!!! Finally, pulled the trig and tried this place! It was nerve wracking to give it a shot given it initially had some issues with service times, food quality, and just figuring out how to enter the food scene in Milwaukee as any new restaurant would. BUT, was I blown away?! As soon as you walk in, high ceilings, gorgeous decorations, and what I thought was a restaurant that never ended- the space the restaurant had to host people was quite a lot, with multiple rooms. Our service was great from the start with multiple servers checking in on us. As for food, it was phenomenal. We had such a hard time picking items off the menu, but we settled on the following two: Tamarind Chicken: it was gas for no reason. The ratio between batter and chicken was slightly off (more batter than chicken), BUT it was a great portion size. The flavors popped off with a flavorful addition of jasmine rice. Pad khee mao: the plating was aesthetic with leaves and the bamboo plate. It was a good mix of authentic spiciness with a new twist on texture. The noodles could've been fried a bit more for a crispy texture amongst the softer veggies and chicken on the plate. If you're not good with spice, I would do something less than the "medium." Saw the opening of this restaurant on the news and couldn't wait for the main opening. We went on the second day of the soft opening. Got there a couple minutes before our reservation and they sat us quickly. Immediately you could tell they hired a great designer. The decore is blue, white, gold, and black. The floors are fun, yet soft colors. The painted murals range from octopuses to women in kimonos. We ordered spring rolls first. They took a bit to get up but the long menu kept us entertained. The "spicy sauce" with them we definitely spicy, tangy, and great. The rolls were not identical but maybe they weren't supposed to be. The khao soi came out quick, especially The wait was well within soft opening times. The khao soi was super good. It was very solid khao soi. New place that opened last week, this place is stylish and trendy. Has both Thai and Japanese food. I tried the Tokyo Drift appetizer which was tasty and had great presentation with variety of colors. For the main entree I tried the Pad Prik Khing at medium spice that hit just right. Green beans seemed a tiny bit undercooked but maybe that's how it's traditionally cooked. I like it a little more cooked, my preference though. Again presentation looked great and flavor was really good and had various textures. Staff was friendly and very helpful and I didn't have to wait long to get my appetizer and entree. Their menu is extensive, so if you're hungry either come prepared with what you want to order or just pick one haha, I'll have to come back and try other dishes because they have plenty to try! Service: Came for a group dinner on a Thursday around 7pm. It wasn't too busy. We had a bigger group so food did come out slower. The waiter also came to let us know that some food will come out later due to their wifi going down, so some orders didn't go in right away. Not the waiter's fault. The tom yum goong soup was pretty good. Sour, tangy, salty! I would say the classic Pad Thai lacked in flavor in my opinion. It was a little plain and underwhelming. It was not as nutty and flavorful as other Pad Thai's I've had in the past. One of my friend's pork skewer dish wasn't cooked fully through as well. The waiter apologized and did comp this dish and offered free ice cream. He felt bad and was a really good and professional with handling this situation. We went there for my son's birthday. It was a Okay meal, nothing felt too special. I do like the decoration of the place.

Where to start on the absolute horrendous experience we had here. I made a reservation several weeks in advance for a group of 13. We were celebrating an anniversary. I was told when I made the reservation that we would have a private room. When we arrived, we were seated in a room with another large party of probably 20+ people plus another table of 4. I called the day prior to our reservation to confirm the time and I asked if we were to arrive like 30 minutes early if they would be ready for us, and I was told that the table would be set and everything 30 minutes prior to our reservation time. We arrived right on time (not early), and didn't have any place settings, and apparently there was a shortage of menus? So we had to share a few between all of us. We felt bad for the staff, who were all friendly and doing their best, but they seemed incredibly unorganized, understaffed, and overwhelmed. The most unacceptable part of our experience was that we waited nearly an hour for water. We asked several times, and eventually were told that they had run out of glasses. We did, however receive the alcoholic drinks in a timely fashion. We eventually asked them if we could get water in the plastic cups that the beer was served in since several patrons at our table hadn't ordered a drink; they just wanted water. Staff seemed to be overwhelmed with the amount of patrons that day and we had to wait a while to order food and we were all very hungry. Thankfully, once we were able to order, the appetizers came very quickly and were good. The entrees took longer. By the time we had our dinners we had been sitting at that table over 2.5 hours. I got to the point that I felt faint and ate a protein bar I had in my purse. At that point, no one was even talking or interacting because we were all so hungry and tired of being there. When the food did finally come, I was pleasantly surprised that no orders were wrong and the servers brought all the meals to the correct people. That was impressive for a group of our size. Finally, the time came to get the bill, and we had planned ahead of time for one of us to put it on their card and the rest would sent money; to make it easier for the restaurant staff to not have to divide up the bill. My friend was not given an itemized bill, she was just handed a decide that showed the total owed, which she paid and then, when prompted, left a 20% tip in spite of the horrible experience we had. We found out AFTER the fact, when she got the receipt, that 20% tip was already included in the bill. So we had paid the server-who failed to tell us that tip was included and didn't even deserve 20% in my opinion- a 40% tip. It's hard to even want to talk about the food because I feel like by the time we got it, we would have eaten a rubber elementary school hot lunch burger and said it was the best meal of our lives. I feel like most of us were happy with the taste and quality of our food, but I can categorically say that not a single one of us enjoyed our meals, and it definitely ruined a celebration that we had planned well in advance. - Good food, good ambiance, great service - No reservation made - Would love to come back and try their expansive menu! We have been eyeing this place since it opened earlier this year, and it did not disappoint! There was tasty food with lots of options, attentive service, and the interior was fun to look at and be in with the fun fish lights and soft and colorful environment. We started with the Grilled Squid and it was a nice start, but nothing too crazy about it. The squid had light seasoning and a flavorful spicy dipping sauce that really added to the whole appetizer. The squid was nice and chewy and there was plenty to split between the 2 of us. I had gotten the Garlic Entree (Tod Kra Tiam) w/ Mild Spice Beef. It was described to have lots of garlic cooked into and on top of the meal, and there was definitely a plentiful amount which I really appreciated! The garlic flavor really was the highlight of the meal, and the mild flavor was not too strong, and I almost would have described it as no spice really. Aside from the flavor of the meat, the meat was nice and tender and there was plenty to eat with the rice that came with it. The sauce coated each piece of meat, but I would have maybe liked a bit more sauce so I could have mixed it in with my rice. My girlfriend had gotten the Massaman Curry w/ No Spicy Chicken. The curry was flavorful and very soupy, which was great for eating with the rice. The coconut base was very strong with this curry and could almost be described as sweet, not too good for my girlfriend, but I liked it a good amount. Maybe adding a mild or another spice level would have made it a bit more savory, or maybe thats just how the dish is prepared. The chicken was very tender and so were the potatoes that came with it. I think it could have used a bit more pieces of chicken, and larger chunks. Overall a tasty bite with everything I could fit on the spoon! For dessert, we had gotten their Shaved Ice. This dessert was quite customizable, with lots of different toppings to choose from, we chose coconut jellies and red bean. The syrup I believe was "nom yen" flavored, which to me tastes like bubblegum. It was very hot when we went, so this dessert was a great finish to keep us through for the rest of the night. We had some tasty food here with beautiful and fun presentations and overall great service. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating towards us. While the food was good, I feel as though it could have used a bit more oomph in their flavoring. We stuck with the Thai food this time, but they also have a lot of Japanese items that I am sure are equally as good. The restaurant was nice and clean and I liked the bright set up and the cutlery that they use! We would definitely come back to try some other items from their large menu and hopefully leave just as happy... or happier! A lot of earlier reviews seem to be about service and issues regarding organization, but our visit was great on that end, so it is good to see that got resolved. Went to Bangkok Kaizen last night with a friend for dinner & the rules re the supposed "all you can eat" aka AYCE are strange. The charges for food you don't eat (or maybe don't even like) were so penalizing. I understand food waste could be an issue but c'mon... then there is a rule that you can only order 10 nigiri for the entire table? I can easily eat 10 nigiri pieces... maybe 10 per person but 10 pieces for the whole table is ridiculous especially considering you'll be charged $1 per uneaten piece! Also the Tonkatsu ramen is only available on the AYCE menu but there weren't many other entrees offered. There were plenty of sushi rolls on the AYCE if you like those which I'm not a fan of after living in Japan and eating true Japanese cuisine daily. To add insult to injury I couldn't even get the AYCE b/c my friend was going to order off of the menu... the whole table has to order AYCE. I'd rather go to the HotPot restaurant nearby where the food is very tasty and there's so many options without penalties. In any event, when our food came it wasn't even piping hot. It was lukewarm at best. Our waitress couldn't answer many questions about the menu (vs AYCE options). We gave her a pass b/c we figured she was new. Overall our Asian food was average to below average so I doubt we'll make a return visit. read more

I heard that the previous owners of Spicy Tuna had opened up this restaurant so I was really interested in trying it out Atmosphere: the restaurant is very beautiful, light, and airy. Large space with good amount of seating including both booths and tables. Service: unfortunately we had really poor service that honestly is the main reason for the low rating. We were able to make a reservation at 5pm for 6 people at 6pm. We were sat down shortly after arriving, but did not get greeted by someone for long enough that we were looking around to ask for water. Half of us ordered appetizers, and the crab rangoons never came until after our meals arrived when we mentioned that we never got them. The meal delivery was also very staggered. Entrees came out first, when half of their food was finished we received our sushi rolls, and one person in our group never got their meal at all. Our waiter rarely came over to our table and didn't notice until we were almost all done eating. The order was completely forgotten and we were still charged for the meal and appetizers without truly acknowledging the mistake or apologizing. We then waited around for a long time after receiving the last meal that we had to get up and ask for the check. Food: I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because the food does taste good. I have come here two times. The first time we came here for an early Friday night dinner. We were able to find a parallel parking on the outside. We made a reservation ahead of time and our family members arrived before us so we sat down immediately. The interior decor is simple and elegant. Modern with some classical elements. Serving utensils are pretty. The woven basket under the plates gives it a nice touch. We ordered papaya salad, chicken satay, pad see ew, and two curries from the Thai food menu. We did not try the sushi. The food is not terrible, but not very memorable either. One curry comes with rice and the other comes with Roti. The roti is very greasy. Curries are a little watery. The service staff seemed to lack some basic food and beverage industry training. There are an identifiable black debris in my water but they change the cup quickly. We were given open lid boxes for curry takeaways and had to request several times to get the right number of boxes. We were approached by some staff mentioning about upcoming reservations about 20 minutes after paying when there are at least 4 empty tables around us and an empty section in the back room. Not sure why there is a rush. The second time I came with a friend and we sat at the bar. I have ordered the grilled squid, it was a little overcooked and has a very rubbery texture, the taste is ok. The beef was an additional $3 on top of the base price. at this restaurant, all the food does not come out at once. It rolls in. The chicken appetizer comes with three skewers. I highly recommend dipping the meat in the peanut sauce. It was really good. I let my friend use the rest of my sauce to accompany her shrimp appetizer. The fried rice was delicious. I was not a fan of the fish sauce that comes with the Thai rice. For me, the sauce was way too salty. I ended up leaving that sauce on the side and just eating the dish as is. Lastly, the Malibu sunset was beautiful. As you can see in the photo, the restaurant is not lacking in terms of presentation. The drink was a nice balance of sweet. SERVICE: After combing through the few reviews available, I decided to make a reservation at 1:00 PM today (3/5) for a party of two. I received a text confirmation of my reservation. Upon arrival, it took less than two minutes to be seated. The weight staff was very attentive. Our water was constantly refilled and, the waiter let me in my party take our time, trying to figure out what to order. AMBIANCE: The inside of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! Everything down to the utensils is color coordinated. It's a very nice restaurant to look around. And, it is a very spacious restaurant. The tables aren't too close together. You can freely enjoy conversation and not hear the other table's conversation. Final Thoughts: Bangkok Kaizen is making an active effort to work on the deficiencies that were identified in earlier reviews about the service in the restaurant. I encourage those to try the restaurant for themselves and form their own opinion. I will be back to try some other items. I think another source of improvement for the restaurant would be to work on the pricing for their sushi rolls. One of the sushi rolls only has 10 pieces but cost $25 which is pretty expensive. And, it would be nice if the menu was more transparent about how many roles you were getting with the sushi options. read more

Had a great Sunday lunch experience here and will definitely be back! We didn't experience issues being seated or with service like some other reviews mentioned, so hopefully it means they have worked through some of the problems others have experienced. We were here for about 3 hours and never felt rushed by staff, and the ambiance was great for hanging around. We thought both the sushi on fire roll and crispy pork belly were delicious. Would recommend both of these! We got medium spice level for the pork belly which had a nice kick and flavor. Our thai iced teas were not too sweet and paired well with the spice. I had hoped there would be a few dessert options, but we were only offered a homemade coconut ice cream. This restaurant was opened by the owners of Spicy Tuna. It is an absolutely beautiful restaurant! It is located in the Mayfair Collection on West Burleigh. I ate lunch here on a Saturday and I am just overwhelmed by this place! They are serving Thai and Japanese cuisine and some of the food is brought in from Thailand. I received a free order of crab Rangoon for being a customer at Spicy Tuna (so be sure to tell your server if you were a customer there). I also ordered the Tomyum soup with chicken. The flavor was absolutely incredible! The lemongrass, galangal, makrut lime leaves and mushrooms with spices and chicken just melted in my mouth! Highly recommend! I didn't have a reservation, so I sat at the bar. I didn't mind at all as the bar is absolutely gorgeous as well! My server/bartender was Liv and she was so incredibly helpful and friendly! She suggested my main entree and I went with the Chinese Broccoli Crispy Pork. The flavors were just incredible! The crispiness of the outer skin of the pork was a nice contrast to the rice and broccoli! The artwork on the walls are all hand painted and absolutely beautiful! This would be an excellent place for a romantic date or even if you and your spouse are going out for a "date night". I highly recommend making reservations to give this restaurant a chance of knowing how many people to expect. I recommend making reservations soon as this place is going to get very busy, very fast! The Tom Yum soup and the Panang Red curry soup were delicious. You can ask for different spice levels. There is an option to choose different proteins to add to this dish. BF wanted Thai and we normally do Thainamite. But I saw a couple TikTok videos of this place and knew we had to try. It's very cute and we had lovely service. But the food was very unmemorable and lacking flavor. That was a disappointment. We ordered a pineapple chicken fried rice and asked for it spicy... no spice. And the sushi was just so-so. Was pretty excited to try this place as we are always on the hunt for great Thai food. This place wasn't spectacular, but it's clear that it is a work in progress and in short, we would give them another chance. The website seems to give the impression that this is a very classy establishment given that it requires reservations, but the ambiance is more casual, with all of the staff in Hawaiian shirts. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated and has comfortable seating. We got reservations for a Friday night (same day) and had no issues getting a time we wanted. The location is a bit hidden in the back of a strip mall, so look beyond the Mexican restaurant if you're on foot. The service was fine, although our waitress was extremely soft-spoken, to the point where I had to have my wife translate into audible English for me. The service was VERY fast. We had multiple dishes and drinks and we were out in thirty-six minutes. Prices were fair for the (somewhat small) portion sizes. The food is where the restaurant unfortunately loses some stars. We ordered the following dishes: Crab rangoon - The rangoon were VERY good, probably some of the best I've had in the Milwaukee area. They had a sweet and tangy filling that went very well with the crisp shells. The only downside of this dish was that we only got four.. Definitely worth ordering two servings of this. Shrimp donut - I liked it more than my partner did. Came with a tasty sauce, not super flavorful, but hard to mess up shrimp deep fried in panko. Chicken satay - This appetizer was incredibly disappointing. It came out colder than room temperature and the chicken was not high quality. The temperature was a huge turnoff, but the sauce was good. My partner wouldn't even finish the piece she tried. Pad thai - Pad thai was pretty good and had a good flavor. I ordered it "medium" spicy, but it was so spicy that my eyes were watering and my nose was running. It had a pretty standard sour Pad thai taste. Crab fried rice - This was my spouse's dish, and she wasn't particularly impressed. Can't speak too much to the taste of this, but it came with a mysterious little cup of extremely salty water on the side. Neither of us could figure out what the point of this "sauce" was. We asked our waitress, who said "she thought maybe it was sweet and sour sauce". (It was not.) It had a really gross, overly salty, fishy taste, so that was kind of a turnoff of that dish. In spite of the food being a little hit or miss, I would be curious to return and try other things the restaurant has to offer. From bad to worse for customer service wise. Don't know what kind of training the employees received. Asked about the lunch special menu and no one knew anything about it. Until the menu was shown to me on an employee's cell which I'm assuming that there's no management present. Plus the employee had issues inputting my order and phone number via the computerized order pad and had to get help. read more

Service was absolutely terrible, we got our first appetizer after an hour of being there. We had all you can eat and the food came out with not correct ingredients, had two roll that had imitation crab In it when it didn't say that on the menu. Some apps and soup never even came out. We ordered take out and asked for it to be ready for pick up at 8:30. I got a text at 7:50 that the food was ready for pick up (a whole 40 minutes before we were going to be there). When my husband asked 'has this been sitting out since 7:50?' they said no, it had just come out. When he said that we received an automated text when they completed the order at 7:50, the person working said 'what do you want me to do?' We had raw sushi and he requested at least the sushi be re-made. They did it, but the whole experience rubs me the wrong way, and the rest of the food was very cold. I had high expectations once again and was hoping the food was going to spark joy to my taste buds. Initial greeting was just weird, we didn't have a reservation but restaurant was only half full if that. We were told if we came back in 20 minutes they could seat us then. When we came back to same person working the front entrance, she kind of looked at us with confusion and called over I assume the supervisor who was angrily drying or polishing chopsticks and cutlery at a station. They agreed to seat us at a high top table, but seemed as if it was a favor to do so. We ordered crab Rangoon, fresh spring rolls, I got veggie pad Thai, and my friend got a curry. The spring rolls had little to no flavor, filled mostly with dry greens and the dipping sauce was barely half a tablespoon in a small cup (fail), the Rangoon were just ok, no crab to be seen and cream cheese was watery in consistency (strike 2), my pad Thai just tasted odd, not spicy, over cooked noodles, I barely ate it because it simply was not good. My friend said the curry was good. I don't plan on returning. There was a very strange vibe our entire time there. How they weren't full but turned people away, we couldn't get refills on our water even when asked, every person working there seemed to visit our table, but not do much. If I wanna feel weird eating I'll go to a family reunion dinner for free and eat better food. read more

Best Thai & Japanese food in WI in my personal opinion. I've eaten at a lot of places and was not impressed. Their 90 min all you can eat isvery impressive. Fresh food, spectacular environment, great fast service and the staff is amazing. Never been let down by this place. read more
