Cafeteria in back of an Asian Market!
    Dean B.

The onley reason for a 4 is trying to find the place and nothing flashy! They will win you over with the food. I had a egg roll and drunken noodles. The egg roll wa up there with one of the beat i have ever had. And same with th drunken noodles. I saw on post about it being a litte expensive. Well i could only eat about half. As for spice i did medium and it had just the right bite. Go try it. Have take out or whatever. You will not run away sad! Yum

A bit pricey for the cafeteria setting, but the food is always top notch! The stuffed wings are amazing! Their sausage is really good with rice, but. A bit greasy to have without the rice. Of course, most people would just have it with rice, but being on keto... We also had panang curry. It was like a bowl of pho, with thicker noodles and a curry tasting broth, rather than like the Indian curry that's thick and you have with rice. I was expecting thicker curry so I was thrown back, but I can see me wanting this dish sometime.

My friend told me that Pho 414 had really spicy food, so I knew I had to check this spot out. Pho 414 is located within Hmong Town, towards rhetorical back and next to "Love, Lady Moon" where you can get salads and boba tea. Pho 414 has a variety of menu options and the staff mentioned specifically their Pad Kra Pao as an authentic item that you may not find as easily, locally. The staff were very kind and attentive, even after ordering the food. The dining area was similar to that of a food court. This is a lesser known spot, but if you like a place that can deliver on spicy, this is a good one for you.

The greeting from the hostess was warm and friendly; she is an asset and really makes you feel welcome. Once we were seated and finally finished our struggle with what to order, we got our drinks. I had to go with the One Night in Bangkok again because it's just a really nuanced and complex mix of tangy, spicy and a hint of sweet. The smoke show also is impressive. My cousin tried the Berry-cation from the summer menu and it was perfect for her - very fresh and a little sweeter. Cousin-in-law got the Thai Goddess, with tomato, and it was very interesting - not quite fruity and not overly vegetal - very cool. Our food was amazing. The first several minutes were just a series of different people saying "Oh my God" as we tried different things. There was no weak dish. We enjoyed a good mix of seafood and meat dishes, that included Golden Fungi, Phuket Jor Pu, Namya Pu, Kurobuta Pork in Panang Curry Sauce, Hung Lay Short Ribs, the Samurai Signature Set, Kinnic Crisp Shell, Nam Prik Aon, Waygu A Rockfire, Mango Sticky Rice and a complementary birthday Yuzu Cheesecake. This restaurant has a way of really creating a special experience and hits on all the important points. Stunning,

We started with the Harajuku Rolls which had nice flavor. There were a few that tasted quite fishy. The crab Rangoon was delicious! For mains, we share Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao both good portions and with the starters was enough food for 3, we even had leftovers. The Pad Thai was good but did not have a ton of chicken. The Pad Kee Mao was a bit spicy again and some beef pieces were a bit chewy. Downside was we got a weird table by the host stand right by the patio door, there was a lot of staff traffic and also a draft from the front door opening and customers waiting right by our table to be seated. The server was a bit interesting, not super helpful with the menu and did not check on us after plates came out.

If you are celiac or gluten-free, I don't recommend ever eating here. While they have a dedicated gluten-free menu with options for changing things out, on two separate occasions (of the 4 times I've been there) they've made a mistake. It puts you in a challenging and uncomfortable situation when you are curious about something actually being gluten-free. I know for myself, you don't want to insinuate that you don't trust your server! My most recent visit there I had the shittake/vegetable Ramen with rice noodles. I explained that I can't have soy sauce because it contains wheat. I explained that if they have tamari that they could check if it is wheat free because I often can have tamari instead of soy sauce. I explained that I can't have anything that contains wheat. My server informed me that she would make sure that this was gluten-free, that the rice noodles would be replacing the Ramen noodles. While eating I was curious if the noodles were not gluten-free, and I was informed that they do seem to be rice noodles. We were also sure to order the tofu as steamed rather than fried so that it would not have cross-contamination. (Due to first glutened experience) Later that night and the following day I can report that what I ate was not in fact, rice noodles or gluten free, and I have been glutened. On a previous occasion, I ordered the fresh spring rolls with a sauce that I was informed was gluten-free with tofu. While already eating this, the server came over and informed me that the tofu was not gluten-free, and had been fried. I think that there may be some lack of understanding what gluten-free means and how it impacts people generally in most of the food service industry. I believe they did their best to try to accommodate. That being said if you are celiac or gluten intolerant, please steer clear! Very unfortunate because it was tasty. I understand that as someone who needs to eat gluten-free that I am taking a risk by eating at a restaurant that is not gluten-free forward. Although they have a dedicated allergy menu, two out of the four times I've eaten there it hasn't made a difference. Great restaurant, not great for celiac.

I think the dumplings and the beef chow fun were easily the best. This place has peanuts in most dishes I would stay away from here if you have an allergy. I'll start with what we liked - the ambiance, the location in the historic Third Ward (although finding street parking close by can be tricky on a weekend), the service. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu which is always appreciated and makes for a better dining experience. When we arrived we had a reservation so it was nice to have zero wait time. We were led back to our table and ordered drinks. The non-alcoholic menu was slim on options but the options were creative. We were told dishes are made to be shared so we ordered a few bigger dishes and the kimchi pancakes. When the kimchi pancakes came out it was nice that they were deconstructed so you could build your own as you like. Kimchi can be an acquired taste so I personally liked being able to control how much I had in each bite. The other dishes were large. These are not shareable dishes- they are legt. main courses. The Mongolian beef was ok. It had a lot of vegetables and color which was nice. The Mapo Tofu dish was a let down. It kills me to say that but it tasted funky. It was a strange flavor and not a good one. On the menu, this dish has three chili peppers next to it which the server told us indicated that it is one of the spiciest dishes on the menu. It had zero heat and zero spice. I asked for some chili crunch to add on top which I also thought fell flat on flavors. The flavors all around just weren't jiving for me. And there was fresh cilantro (maybe?) on top which did not help the situation. In hindsight the Top Chef coverage of Dan Dan and hype in the local media made us think every dish here was going to be amazing and unfortunately we didn't think so. I don't need to return any time soon.

We came after visiting one of the nearby breweries. We were seated right away at the bar. I had a glass of the Black River sake and my boyfriend tried the Blossom of Peace. His was much sweeter and I was very happy with mine. They weren't served in traditional sake cups, just in regular wine glasses but this was good with me as they were a normal sized wine pour. They had a special for Bluefin Tuna. We shared the Nigiri trio by cutting each piece in half. My favorites were the two fattier cuts ( otoro, and chutoro ) I remember at this point we wished we had ordered another appetizer since the restaurant was busy and our main sushi rolls took a bit of time to arrive. We decided next time we would at least get the edamame in between plates. The rolls we ordered were the Ponzu Jello and Riverwest. The Riverwest description listed a smoky miso mayo which I did not notice a different from regular flavored mayo on a roll. The Ponzu Jello was unique and worth trying! The rolls were fat and very filling so we did not need to order more than two! I think we both agreed that the Riverwest roll was our favorite of the two. After that we noticed there was a special for some premium sake, so we ordered the G Joy. Very delicious, easy to drink and a perfect size to share. I will add this restaurant to my places to visit again!
