I literally found out about Thai Bangkok earlier today and given it's proximity to where I live in Germantown, their great reviews, my love of Pad See Ew, and my need for dinner that I could take with me to my kid's sporting event, calling in an order today was a no-brainer. My order consisted of Pad See Ew and two chicken spring rolls. The spring rolls were fine, but I swear they were missing something flavor-wise that I couldn't put my finger on. I do appreciate that you can get them individually instead of having to order them in increments of three like at some other Thai restaurants. The egg rolls at An Ox Cafe on 74th and Hampton are superior and are on my way to Thai Bangkok if I'm going there straight from work, so I'd rather pickup the egg rolls from An Ox to pair with the Pad See Ew from Thai Bangkok. Since I'm comparing the two restaurants, I think the Pad See Ew from Thai Bangkok is much better. I like that they use bean sprouts in the Pad See Ew, the pieces of egg were larger, the broccoli was properly portioned instead of feeling like there was way too much, and there was more soy sauce than heat while An Ox had way more heat than soy sauce. The area isn't great, but don't let that deter you. Thai Bangkok is worth the visit. read more

Been here a million times, it's my go to. Their chicken panang curry is my go to. Similar To that, the Thai peanut curry is also just as great. Sometimes I customize and add different veggies like green beans and they're always willing to accommodate my request. Need a caffeine fix? Try their thai coffee! It's sweet and tasty. They're normally very sweet but to me it tastes good. This isn't the first time I'm reviewing this so I'm surprised this shows a first. Hence I only have one picture of my latest food, beef with green beans. I would recommend ordering in advance if you want your food available asap as they take time to prepare the yummy food. This is definitely not a place people would expect to be so good. Do not let the outside looks of neighboring businesses sway your decisions away from going here. We have eaten here at least 20 times. All take out. This is definitely a really good Thai restaurant. It's family owned and the people that work there are super nice and sweet. Every time we order, the order is perfectly done. We never have any complaints. The orders are done right and we don't have anything missing when we get home. Still the best Thai in MKE. I love the other places with better atmosphere and ambiance, like Appithai down the road, or all the places around the city. But for my money I can't say I've had a better pad Thai or pad see eew, certainly never had better Tom yum at any of those other places. Wow! We were driving home from door county and ordered takeout last Saturday. Looking at the location and the place I had extremely low expectations. I was wrong. This place is great! We just did a simple order of: Fried rice Pad Thai Pad pak We ordered "medium" spice and it was SMOKING hot. It was almost too hot for me but family loved it. As with other reviewers, I have also noticed a change in the food since change of ownership (March 2024?). My family had eaten there almost weekly for several years. The food was always delicious - the most incredible subtle flavors! An absolute delight! Since the change of ownership however, while the menu listings remain the same, the food taste (and portions) have changed considerably. The sauce in one dish has changed so significantly that it is essentially now a different (and less interesting) food. The chicken in one dish has become somewhat "strange", with very large (e.g. 2" x 2") flat pieces. In my own cooking with chicken, that just never happens. It's odd. The texture is a bit off, too. I almost wonder if the chicken is no longer cut up in the restaurant and instead perhaps arrives as a "processed chicken food" product. Even the rice has changed. Both in quantity and quality. Prices have also increased since the the change of ownership. Prior to ownership change, Thai Bangkok was a very good value for excellent food. It is now diminished to the level of only a moderate value for borderline-mediocre food. The service remains good, and the food is prepared promptly. Bottom line: With the decrease in quality/portions combined with the increase in prices, Thai Bangkok has now fallen from a 2-4 times per month visit to perhaps just once a month. If things do not improve, the frequency of our visits will further fall - and perhaps be eliminated altogether as we search for a replacement. A true shame, and a loss for northwest Milwaukee. read more

Crab Rangoon, Pad Thai and chicken fried rice were both very good. Don't expect a whole lot of ambiance but there is an inside dining area. The service was rather slow and I was mostly ignored by the staff but I will be back. read more

My favorite is the Pad Thai with Tofu. It's always good and hot! New ownership as of March. Don't change the recipes please. I noticed a difference in egg roll size since the new owners took over. Don't fix what isn't broken. I get take out and service is very good. read more

Ok, I'm ready to upgrade them to 4 stars. Had lunch with a friend. She ordered the wings, and they were crispy and delicious. I ordered special #48 which is fried rice mixed with rice noodles and I added beef. The beef was tender with a tasty marinade. Same was true of the noodles. I always struggle between a rice dish or a noodle dish. It was a relief to find a dish that featured both. read more

I have, on many occasions over the years, picked up food from this restaurant. It has consistently been hot, fresh, and tasty. I like Thai food to be spicy and this place never disappoints. They will made it to your desired level of heat. The flavors are just explosive and the portions are beyond filling. It has been my experience that my order has always been ready when promised. A hidden gem! Great food, great service. We decided to dine in as we just finished a track meet and we're very hungry. We were the only people eating in although several people popped in to grab food to go. Each table is separated by plexiglass. The waitress was kind, checked on us adequately, left a pitcher of water for us to serve ourselves throughout the meal. When you ask for spicy..please know they are not joking! This place is a dive inside, but the people are super friendly and the food is great, so who cares! If you're eating in, know that it's tiny. There's a few booths and a couple tables. None of them are really very comfortable, but whatever. It's all kind of grimy from being old--not dirty, just run down. There's a lot of takeout business going on here. Many, many people come in to use the bathroom even though there's a sign on the door saying it's for customers only. But the service, given by the daughter of one of the cooks, was excellent! We had never eaten there before, and she answered questions, gave recommendations, and acted like we were friends without being overbearing. Very casual but very helpful and efficient. (And handled it like a pro when a table of regulars asked about her immigration status because "you're not one of the ones that should be deported." Good god.) We got one Hmong dish and two Thai dishes. All were good, but I think in general the Hmong dishes stand out more. The spicy crushed fish from the Hmong menu was not what I expected but delicious. Fried catfish filets were pounded with tons of fresh herbs and what must have been a ton of fish sauce. This stuff is quite salty, spicy and fragrant. Very strong in flavor, which is perfect for eating with rice that comes along with it. Thai peanut curry was pretty good, but I wish it had fewer green bell peppers (I think that everywhere, though; it's a personal preference). It's a cross between a peanut sauce and a red curry. The pork in that was tender and lean. Stir fried rice and rice noodles was also tasty, but it could have used more chicken. Something I noticed about other reviews is that they don't mention the heat level. They use a 5-level scale of heat, and we ordered everything smack dab in the middle (called "hot"). We are not wusses by any means, but we were sweating as we ate everything. Which was surprising since we had read reviews before going and no one seemed to mind the heat. I'd put their spice levels on par with AppeThai's "hot" and Kim's Thai 7 or 8. Oh, and the prices are dirt cheap! We'll be back. read more

Based on the *ahem* location, and hour, of our hunger we opted for takeout our first go around with Thai Bangkok. The inside was clean enough I suppose and looked like it used to be an old George Webb's...with some bulletproof glass added later on. The food was great! The plum sauce with the veggie spring rolls? I inhaled that thing! Sticky white Jasmine rice came with my Chicken Pud Cashew Nuts that was 'spicy'. Aside from the fact it wasn't spicy, it was pretty incredible. I tried my wife's Chicken Pud Thai - super salty which threw me off but also quite delicious. I'm a little upset with myself for not ordering Thai Bangkok sooner. read more

I am from Cali and one of my favorite Thai dish is Pad Thai and you know Cali have best pad Thai there. 2 years I've been living in Milwaukee I have not once found a Pad Thai dish that met up to my standard.But thanks to one of my really good friend who took me and some of our friends there. I was so iffy about ordering the Pad Thai dish because from all the bad experience I have in the past 2 years I've been in Milwaukee but I'm glade I did it! Now I'm hooked on it!!!!! After reading the rave reviews, I knew I had to check this place out (my husband and I live nearby but we were always scared to try this place with its sketch neighborhood). But being the foodies that we are, who cares when the food is SO amazing?! We got the mild "Gang Kiew Wahn" (green curry) with chicken and the hot "3 Company" (stir-fry with chicken, pork, and beef) upon the waitress's recommendation. WHOO-WHEEE!! We were NOT disappointed!! The sauce in 3 company reminded us of a super tasty meat sauce at a top notch Chinese restaurant in Minneapolis. We even packed the sauce home to go on top of our rice (given that we ate everything else). Both dishes complimented each other so well. We went around 3:00ish so our service was great, and the food was very fresh, all the veggies in crunchy perfection. The prices were a little higher than expected but for the portions, I would say it was reasonable. We will definitely be coming back! Oh, and they had Hmong food too which was comforting to know. :) read more

The place itself is really divey but the food and service were good. I had the crab cream cheese wontons and there was little crab taste in them, but they were still good. I loved the sauce that came with them it was a yellow sour sauce with cracked pepper and it was amazing. I've never had that sauce before! The pho was tasty and authentic and came with all the fixings. I also has their noodle/rice stirfry which I really enjoyed. It is definitely authentic thai! The waitress and cook were extremely friendly and even came out to talk with us too so that was great. If we're ever back in the area we'd be back! read more

While the business is not located in the best neighborhood, it does offer pretty good food. We pick up in pairs, and always do carry out. Medium heat is perfect. Fresh rolls are great. This place would be easy to pass by based solely on the outside aesthetics but you'd be missing out! My sister and I split the veggie fried rice and veggie spring rolls. I loved that they asked if I wanted it spicy and how spicy I wanted it. Most places if you don't specify they just make it how they make it. The food tasted very fresh. So I found this place after reading MilMag's cheap eats issue and decided I had to try this place out. They don't have a website, so I had to rely on pictures taken by others to make my takeout order. We started with the satay which was pretty standard, with a great peanut sauce. I also ordered a spring roll, which was perfectly fried. In fact, when I went to pick up my order, I had to wait a couple of minutes, and watched her pack up my spring roll off the frier - perfectly hot, crispy, and delicious. I ordered the Pad Seuw and was not disappointed. It had wonderfully cooked thick rice noodles with tender beef, egg, and some veggies. The soy based sauce they used to cook it in however was the best part and had a great flavor. We also ordered a red curry (I can't remember which), with pork. It was so good. Although not necessarily in the best neighborhood and the interior leaves a little bit to be desired, the food is so good, I could care less. If that's important to you, just order it to go and enjoy it at home as I do. I can't wait to go back and get more takeout from this place! read more

I got take-out at this place twice now, both times last week. The first time I got their beef Lad Na, and the second time I got their Pad Kee Mao. Both times the food was absolutely delish!! Sometimes when you get thai take-out, the food gives you sodium overload, but this was well seasoned and not too over seasoned. There was sufficient gravy with the Lad Na (not too watery either), and the Pad Kee Mao was dry wok-fried, just like it should be. I noticed that they have some authentic Hmong dishes on their menu, so I will definitely be trying that one day. I will say that both times I went in, it was completely empty inside, not a single customer. They only have about 8 or 9 tables. I guess they make their money from mostly take-out orders, because I asked the lady behind the counter and she said they've been open here for three years. Being close to work, I used to go here every Tuesday for their Pho, which is great BTW yet does take a bit longer than other places so make sure you get in early so they can get your order in. The seating is very limited with 4 or 5 booths and 2 tables so if you get there right during the lunch rush there is a chance you will have to wait for a little bit. The strip mall it is in isn't the best and when you walk in you will notice it used to be a different restaurant and didn't change some signage or the layout. The service is a bit slow at times yet all of the items they make are great. The most recent time going here I got the #4 and the Green Curry #20 both of them Hot (scale goes from Mild, Medium, Hot, Extra Hot, and Fire). The Hot was plenty spicy, and I love spicy food so be careful there. The Green Curry was one of the best that I have had and the garlic dish is something I have never seen before. Oh yeah, they have this amazing sauce for the Fresh Rolls/Spring Rolls that I haven't had before. Usually they come with a thick peanut sauce yet this was a thinner sauce that was really good. Definitely give this place a try for lunch or carry out. read more

UPGRADE! This place is simply the best. I've ventured out of my Thai comfort zone and tried a good bit of the menu. My current obsession is the Gang Gai aka #19. I work near Thai Bangkok, and it has quickly become a favorite lunch stop. Pros: The food is delicious. I've tried and enjoyed many dishes, including the Green Curry, the Pa Nang, a crispy catfish dish, the Hmong sausages, the yellow curry noodles, etc. But I gravitate to the dishes that are loaded with veggies; two of my personal favorites are: #22 with #23 sauce. #22 is their veggie-loaded red curry dish, but I always ask for it with the #23 sauce, which is a peanut-and-red-curry sauce. So much yum! #37, the Pad Goe See Mee. It's a skinny noodle dish with lots of veggies and a brown sauce. Really great mouth feel on these noodles, I love eating this. #34, Drunken Noodle, is similar but has big fat wide noodles - also a delight. And if you aren't familiar with Thai Iced Tea yet... you might want to be. It's bright orange, and bold tasting, and mixed with a generous amount of sweet cream. Cons: The ambiance and neighborhood are a little sketchy, and the place is very small with limited seating (maybe 9 tables?). If that's a concern for you, call in your order for pick up and take it home with you. Tips: 1) I order it Medium, which is actually fairly hot (which I like). But if you order it "Mild" they will not add any chili paste at all; it's zero spice. So if you like Mild spice, order it as "Mild-Plus," - that worked for a friend of mine. 2) If you are watching carbs, you can ask for any of their "served with rice" dishes to be served over a bed of fresh, shredded cabbage instead (something on the menu comes this way, which is what inspired me to ask one day) 3) It is a small operation; they get busy and sometimes you might wait awhile for your food, or a water refill or whatever. But they are so very nice - if you need something, just flag them down and ask for it. read more

A Thai food gem in the middle of a crappy strip mall on the north side of Milwaukee. This place isn't in a neighborhood I'd say you really want to be in or in an area you want to be seen in (the neighbor here is an adult bookstore). The ambiance inside is also nothing special, plane tables and chairs and nothing much to see. The food though is delicious. The Panang Cury, Bangkok Chicken, Pad Thai, Spring Rolls all are soo good here. The prices are SERIOUSLY LOW! Given the food, pricing, & location lunch here is the busy time. If you don't get here before about 11:35 you're going to be standing around waiting for a table as they don't have much seating. Dinner doesn't see much dine in as most of the food when I've been here late seems to be of the To Go variety. Again large portions as is so common with Thai restaurants. Service is sometimes slow as there's often only one person working the front of the restaurant. Highly recommend stopping in for some Pad Thai if you're in the area. read more
