I have been eating at King and I for about 30 years! I used to stop at their second restaurant when it existed on 76th near Good Hope back in the 90s. I still love their food, but the consistency is lacking! Once again I got a delivery order through Grubhub. This time, I made sure that I added a comment to not forget the rice with my Pud Prik Sod, which comes with rice. And, once again, they forgot my rice. It is a stir fry dish and has always had rice with it. Come on guys, maybe have another step in the QC department before orders go out. Great food, this place has been around for a long time and I feel like it's been forgotten a little. I love going here when I go downtown. Looks unassuming but once you go inside it looks much more welcoming. Staff was helpful and fast. For appetizer we ordered the crispy squid. It was the right crispiness. The presentation was a little lackluster with one lettuce leaf taking up a third of the rectangular plate, but the flavor was pretty good I ordered the duck pineapple curry and it was so good. Don't judge a book by its cover, all their food so very tasty. The cleanliness Of the restaurant could use some improvement. A little detail I'm looking at some litter and under the cushioned seats go a long way for making a guest feel comfortable and sanitary. Our family, probably, only comes once a year, just because we don't go downtown to eat that much. We all only get volcano chicken (don't even look at the menu, unless we're ordering apps). Early on, we tried a couple of other entrees which we thought were just ok, so volcano chicken is our go to and never disappoints. Enough for a lunch leftover. read more

Overall a nice experience. Traveled to MKE for work and went out to dinner with a few people from work. Parking can be a little challenging but can be found. After 6pm, I think, street parking is free. We shared an order of spring rolls. A few beers and my volcano chicken was pretty tasty. One member of our team had a struggle getting a non-alcholic drink as the restaurant didn't have juice. This is a pretty big place. Service was great. Great dinner. read more

Tired old Thai place downtown near the river. Came here on a Friday night before a show without a reservation and walked in, the dining room was only maybe 1/4 full. The dining room faces the open kitchen, with lots of clanging pots and pans. We were handed menus with large grease spots on them. We started with spring rolls. They had beef (odd) and veg, we went with beef and didn't detect much beef, and whatever small amount if beef was there, certainly wasn't "crispy". Very mediocre. I had a seafood green curry and it just wasn't good and looked nothing like the picture, it wasn't even green. I had a taste of a green curry at a new place in tosa that was so much better. Not here. The best thing was probably the mojito. Don't plan on returning. read more

My memory of this place is vague. I don't even remember it really. But hubby keeps telling me we went there, like 10 years ago, and were disappointed. So every time I'm trying to order food from here when ubereats has some discount, he'll keep telling me that it was not good. I usually ask him what dish he would like to pick, but I was tired of hearing, nope, we didn't like that dish 10 years ago, and really just wanted to give them another chance after 10 years, so I went ahead and made the order all by myself. Glad I did. Pad kee mao (drunken noodles) - I LOVE that they cooked the noodles with delivery in consideration!! THIS is how it's done, other noodle/pasta restaurants who make takeout food! You really need to undercook the noodles a bit, considering that it will continue to cook as it travels and gets to your customers' table. So when we bit into it, it wasn't too soft nor too hard. Got this one down for takeout! Not the abosolute bestest pad kee mao I've had (that designations goes to a place in LA), but considering all the other fails I've had in the greater Milwaukee area, this one was really OK. It stayed simple, and the flavors were kicking. Calamari - simple calamari. Nothing special. Small portion, as it is an appetizer. Beef Laab - typical laab. Came with one piece of lettuce and a few slices of cucumbers. But they put the single piece of lettuce on the bottom, and it was too drenched in fish sauce and lemon juice to serve its purpose as a wrap. It served as decoration more than anything else. Nothing exceptional about the tastes here, but also, another one solid. When we received the order, I was at first disappointed in the box sizes. (note my book for comparison lol) But the food was packed in pretty tightly, and when fluffed up and plated, worked out for 2 people just fine, considering that two of the dishes were appetizers. This place is such a staple of Milwaukee, at least in my eyes. Recently moved back here & was so glad to see it's still open. And it was not crowded at all on a Saturday night so am extra pleased to see they remain open! We shared veggie tempura & the drunken noodles with tofu. The tempura was so light, in like a beer batter - probably some of the best I've had! We ordered the dish medium level for spice, and I could barely handle it whereas my partner had no problem. Realized after the fact tho that it probably wasn't as evenly distributed as we had thought. Still, it was a very enjoyable beer. If the name of this restaurant doesn't tell a story, then I don't know what to say. With a name like this, the place must be good! So I was greeted by a very warm staff, and my waitress was nice and spunky! I asked her "which did she prefer, the chicken pad thai or the yellow chicken curry" She chose the curry. So thats what I went with, it came with jasmine rice and a delicious spring roll! along with beef chili stew as an appetizer. The stew was out of this world, it was the kind of stew that warms your spirit with each and every sip, and I could tell that the broth was homemade. My curry dish was up to par as well, I chose a level 3/4 spice level and it was pretty spicy, while also having a delicious flavor profile as well. I fell in love with this dish, and the restaurant as a whole, because you could taste the quality and all of the effort that was put into their cooking. So this thai restaurant in Milwaukee was one of the few open till 10 at night and to be honest it wasn't anything special. The vegetable spring rolls were below average with a hint of mint that didn't fit well with the food dipping sauces sweet and sour and peanut sauce. The volcano tofu was mediocre and nothing to be content about while the vegetable mixed stir fry and veggie red curry were bland and didn't remind me of authentic recipes made at other Thai restaurants in Milwaukee. Since the food was nothing but average I can't say I'm going to be returning anytime soon but the service was pretty good with not having to wait for the food too long. Lastly, it wasn't the best bang for my buck spending around $14-15 per dish which is more pricey than other Thai places which cost around $10-11 per dish. Wish I could have given it a better review but it just didn't meet any expectations when it came to great Authentic Thai food. read more

Overall, I was disappointed. We ordered a pad see ew, a stir fry, and the crispy fish. The rice noodles were hard, the meat was dry, and the flavor was missing that unique depth and savory flavor that makes Thai food so appealing. It tasted like noodles stir fried with soy sauce and sugar. The stir fry was the worst for me. It was a bunch of random vegetables half cooked with the tiniest morsels of beef. I didn't see any color on the meat or signs of velveting. There was so much of the sauce packed with sugar that it lost the meaning of a good classic stir fry. The fish was alright, still slathered in an overly sweet sauce. And one other thing was that it's not cheap. We paid extra for beef, and the fish alone was over 30$. The kitchen is open, and I noticed that some kids nearby were getting irritated by what I assume was the chili peppers being cooked nearby. All the servers were kind. Service was horrible - food was mediocre at best. Pad Thai had no flavor and was really stuck together! Two dinner were served before the others (9 minutes!) and one was wrong. We could pick a soup and an entree from the lunch special menu. No options for the soup, but there are 4 options for the entree. I picked Pud prig sod for the entree and soup on monday is Tom yum. Entree came with a vegetable spring roll and egg fried rice. They were all delicious! The spring roll was so light and crunchy! It melted away in the mouth. Fried rice was cooked well and complemented the entree perfectly. I picked the ' adventurous' spice level. The vegetarians at our table of four, and one somewhat meat eater all found numerous selections across our varied tastes. Also, and this is a bonus.... i used some of the leftover broth and added butter to create the BEST dipping sauce for lobster tails that I made a few days later. We catered the King & I for our wedding this past October and it was the best decision! We set up a tasting and got to pick items from the menu to try. We tried so much food. The tasting cost $50. Derek was great to work with. Easy going and answered our millions of questions with ease. We addressed the concerns we had about another yelpers review on their catering; Derek reassured us that they tried telling this couple that the food quantity that they wanted would not be enough. With that being said, Derek did over estimate with food for us, however it's to make sure there's enough food and that nothing runs out. So I would heed Derek's advice. My wife is an Executive Chef, so she was able to work with Derek on how much we would need. Not only did we not run out, but we were able to have a little leftover. I would say our only qualm was that we paid for and ask them to provide clearing services. The clearing aspect was not the best. My father in law ended up moving some things around but this did not affect our wedding in any way. And honestly, I didn't notice. This was a complaint others had. I was too busy having fun. Back to the food. Everything was absolutely DELICIOUS! They did an amazing job with the food. I think there was one or two people who didn't like Thai food in general, however everyone else LOVED the food. We are still receiving compliments today on how our wedding had some of the best food. We ordered Chicken Penang, Pork Larb, Coconut Shrimp, Spring Rolls, Cashew Chicken, Eggplant, and some beef dish I can't remember. It was all superb. TLDR; Get the fresh spring rolls and a mixed drink. The atmosphere is a nice sit down restaurant with white and gold accents and an open window to see into the kitchen where the chefs are preparing your food. I like this because then I can see that someone is actively preparing food, and when I'm hungry that makes me a little less impatient for the food to show up. I'd say the food itself is pretty average when it comes to Thai food, but the fresh spring rolls are really good and I'm sad that I missed taking a picture of them. I definitely recommend getting them as an appetizer if you come here. The wait staff can seem a bit impatient at times, but they do try to be helpful when you're adjoining questions and I did come here on a bucks game day though so they could have been overwhelmed or impatient to go watch the game. read more
