    Wonton Soup
    Courtney G.

I ordered through DoorDash here as they had a few BOGO deals, which I love to see. I first started with the crab Rangoons, which were good and BOGO, so I got double the Rangoons! I can't complain there. I also ordered the dumplings, which I didn't care much about. I wanted some wonton soup for the cold day, and I was disappointed. There was no flavor at all, and it just tasted like water. The wonton itself in the soup was not that good, either. For entrees, they had fried noodles (like lo mein) BOGO. I got them in beef, and they were delicious. It gave me a couple of days of lunch and dinner leftovers. I wanted to try their chef's chow fun since I love a good wide noodle, but I wasn't too impressed. There wasn't much flavor, and it seemed to lack something. I might enjoy this dish more dining in, but for now, I'm going off of delivery. Lastly, I can't order takeout without getting fried rice. I got the small shrimp fried rice and had to throw it away. It was so fishy tasting and tasted like salt water. I always get shrimp-fried rice no matter where I go, and I am surprised by how fishy this tasted--honestly disappointed with how it tasted. Overall, the fried noodles and the crab rangoons were the highlights of this meal.

Shrimp in Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Singapore noodles, egg foo yong

Sigh. I miss the wok hei that Chef Gene wrapped the extraordinary Chinese food that flash fried out of his iron wok. I worked for his family restaurant growing up, and it is rare to encounter wok hei in any Chinese establishments here in Beertown. Shrimp in Lobster Sauce at its best is an unctuous umami dish rich with pork, egg ribbons, black beans and plump shrimp. The sauce is rich enough that you continue to lap it up long after your belly is filled. Sigh. China Gourmet charged $17.95 for a sad, thin, white broth with shrimp that they called Shrmp in Lobster Sauce but should be called Diet shrimp broth entree and evokes Wongs Wok menu. Shame shame shame on you. No flavor. Overpriced. 2 cups max. No wok hei. I think they zapped it in the microwave..... My Uber ordered totaled $60 including an unanticipated $10 service charge. This rip off meal also included 2 egg foo yong hockey pucks, and a sandy dry dish of Singapore noodles. I succumbed to ordering delivery because I was too tired after a long day. It's the same condition that causes me to order extremely expensive junk from infomercials at night. China Gourmet, shame on you for taking what is usually exquisite affordable cuisine and ripping off your customer.

Love this place! My guy and I recently moved here from Colorado and we love this place! Don't be put off by the lived in bar area. The food is great and the owner is absolutely adorable. They make their own chili oil! We always try to dine in because we see that they get a lot of to-go orders. Bring your friends because this place deserves your business!

Definitely not gourmet. Hot and Sour soup was very watery and not too flavorful. I ordered some Szechuan Wings and got Buffalo wings. The egg rolls weren't good at all. I don't recommend.

Friendly staff serving Chinese food in downtown Milwaukee. The food was above average with large portions at a reasonable price. I would return to this place.

Hot bars and a view into the kitchen

Chinese buffets are usually pretty good at attracting me and this one is okay. Perhaps not the largest selection on the hot bars and nor is it the healthiest food in the world, but they promise that they don't use MSG and there is plenty of food. Okay, we're going in! Three or four steam tables and one cold table with classic Americanized Chinese food, like Chicken and Broccoli and Beer in Oyster Sauce. Steamed dumplings, fried rice and spring rolls, of course. I filled my plate three times, including one pass at the dessert table. Towards the end of the lunch hour, some of the trays were emptying out, but the kitchen staff was trying hard to keep up. Service was good. I assume that's the manager who was refilling my water glass. Would I return? Yes, if I'm in the mood for Chinese buffet.

Food is good. We arrived at a very busy time. They were short handed. I'm sure it would've been better if they weren't so busy.

Plenty of space for parking in the back. Dark, smoky atmosphere with Asian interior designs. Perfect ambiance for BBQ! We had both Korean BBQ & hot pot, absolutely worth the price for both. The BBQ was by far everyone's favorite. We recommend the beef bulgogi, beef short ribs, and pork belly--these were the best for BBQ. Since it was all you can eat, we had a few servings of them. There was also a counter for different types of sauce one could get and a dessert section. The hot pot was great as well. We recommend the bone broth and the fish/shrimp/meatballs with it as well as udon noodles. The service was great overall. Our server was busy, but she managed to be attentive with us. We left with our belly full. We will absolutely come back.

I have ordered squid, but the dish ended up feeling more like a hotpot squid and no flavor, It was also a different kind of squid than I expected. We also order the brown rice cake, but had an dirty oily taste, like it may have been cooked in the same oil as fries, bubble tea inside is jello, I prefer boba. I hope the restaurant can improve this. The price is reasonable. I enjoyed the pork belly and the fries were good. Overall, it was okay, nothing too bad, but nothing amazing either.

We were told it gets busy for dinner right away and with no reservations we decided to go right at dinner opening time. There was a line forming outside the door before they opened but luckily we were second in line and got seated right away. The staff is very friendly. They check on you often without rushing. Multiple people greeted us and then thanked us on the way out. All of their sushi options sounded delicious. I got the Very Crunchy. It was served with a fun presentation over dried ice. The sushi itself tasted amazing, even though sushi isn't my favorite. I got the Pad Thai for an entree and I honestly think it's some of the best Pad Thai I've had in a while in Milwaukee. The sauce to noodle ratio was spot on and the flavor was perfect with the right amount of spice. Portions were great as well. Overall, definitely make sure to stop by!

We came after visiting one of the nearby breweries. We were seated right away at the bar. I had a glass of the Black River sake and my boyfriend tried the Blossom of Peace. His was much sweeter and I was very happy with mine. They weren't served in traditional sake cups, just in regular wine glasses but this was good with me as they were a normal sized wine pour. They had a special for Bluefin Tuna. We shared the Nigiri trio by cutting each piece in half. My favorites were the two fattier cuts ( otoro, and chutoro ) I remember at this point we wished we had ordered another appetizer since the restaurant was busy and our main sushi rolls took a bit of time to arrive. We decided next time we would at least get the edamame in between plates. The rolls we ordered were the Ponzu Jello and Riverwest. The Riverwest description listed a smoky miso mayo which I did not notice a different from regular flavored mayo on a roll. The Ponzu Jello was unique and worth trying! The rolls were fat and very filling so we did not need to order more than two! I think we both agreed that the Riverwest roll was our favorite of the two. After that we noticed there was a special for some premium sake, so we ordered the G Joy. Very delicious, easy to drink and a perfect size to share.
