Pretty good food, the portions were much larger for the non-chunk type recipe such as seasoned chicken. They fill a container so you get more with something like broccoli and beef. I've been going to Yen Ching since I was a kid, for at least 35 years. I've moved away years ago, but always made sure I could make a stop whenever I visit back home. However, the last quite-a-few years, the flavor of the sauce was "off". Never quite as good. Today was my first time I tried Yen Ching Express, and the taste was spot-on to the flavor I remember from the days of the Yen Ching days. The cashew chicken was a bit too sweet for my better half, so she tried the General Tso's, and was thrilled with the flavor. The sauce wasn't too spicy, and if she wanted an extra kick, there are the dried red peppers in it. My mom really loved the crab Rangoon. I do wish they still offered their old wontons, but what we got, we really enjoyed. Can't wait for my next visit! read more

Oh Yen Ching, how I've missed you. When you say Chinese food in Milwaukee my mind goes to 76th/GooodHope and the original Yen Ching. 20 years ago when my wife was pregnant with our first child Yen Ching was the pregnancy craving destination and did she ever have a frequent craving. We were so disheartened when the location changed hands. To say we were thrilled that our favorite is back is an understatement. Sizzling rice soup, so awesome to have you back. So there are a few (5) seats at a counter and two tables outside for the summer months. Unfortunately it's pretty much take out only, but I guess we'll take it to get the food back. Love this place, can't say enough good things about it. Would recommend the Mongolian beef or sesame chicken!

I came in for lunch and was greeted by a warm and modern space. Brian behind the counter was incredibly courteous and helpful for my self-admittedly "white girl Wisconsin" palate. The spring roll and sesame chicken were delicious! Very fresh and flavorful. Recommend dining in with a good book on your lunch break (which have gratefully smaller portions). After searching Ozaukee county for great Chinese food, feels great to have finally found our takeout spot!! read more

I stopped in this past week and was most impressed with the customer service. There were three people I interacted with each very professional and kind. My food was ready a few minutes before my pick up time which was great. For rather inexpensive and fast Chinese food it was pretty much what you would expect. Everything was good but I wouldn't say anything was great. Cashew Chicken: the chicken was nice and crispy and the actual cashews with the sauce were very good but something about the chicken itself wasn't doing it for us, this was the least touched of our order Beef lo mein: this was one of our favorites. The beef seemed to be higher quality than other restaurants we've had it at. Would have loved just a little more flavor. We ended up adding some garlic and hoisin at home to get it to our taste. Crab rangoons: can't go wrong they were good! Chicken fried rice: this seemed to be lighter and a tad less flavorful than other similar restaurants in the area, but still good. Chicken egg roll: this was probably my favorite of the bunch! Will look forward to going back and trying a few more dishes to see how they stack up! read more

Extremely expensive compared to their competitors. Taste is average Chinese food. Why are they greedy expensive? Grubhub delivery is free with Prime membership except Not here. They charge $3.99 for "free" grubhub delivery plus they add a Service Charge - just because. This charge is a % of your total. Bottom line, they charge high prices for the entrees and add a Service Charge for no reason other than GREEDY price gouging. I am on a doctors no drive order right now. Once I can drive again, I won't order from Yen Chin Express. Kings Wok is delicious, my recommendation and my preference. read more

Ordered on Christmas Eve as is our family tradition. It was very busy but the food was still as fantastic as I remember it on 76th st. The menu is somewhat limited for a Chinese restaurant, but if you remember going to the old location you know their staples. The cashew chicken is the best I've ever had and I'll die on that hill! Portions were smaller than most Chinese places that are to go...don't know if that was just the case cause it was so busy?? I'll have to go once more and update. I never had the pleasure of trying the OG Yen Ching location, but all I hear about it are great things. I saw the documentary about it at a MKE film fest, but by that time they were already sold / closing down. To my surprise, I saw on social media that the sons were putting together something and it was going to be in Mequon! We stopped by opening week, and there was a line / many people waiting. However, they were cranking through orders pretty good. I also have done online ordering, and it was super quick pickup that time. We've had: Mongolian beef - apparently, just as they used to make it at the OG spot according to the hubs Black pepper chicken - a bit sweet with black pepper kick Sweet and sour chicken - least favorite of all them, but still good Lo mein - Tasty Will def be on our go-to spots for takeout. read more

I got Lo Mein and egg rolls and I was not impressed. They must fry up a lot of egg rolls ahead of time anticipating orders because mine was not crunchy or crispy at all. The kind of egg roll you bite into and it just flattens. It was not as hot as if it were made fresh for my order. The flavor was pretty bland, and I would say you could get tastier egg rolls from the freezer section at the grocery store. The Lo Mein was HELLA salty. I forced myself to eat it though because I was starving and didn't want to waste the food or the money. Big problem with ordering online. The price for a side of rice was listed as $1.50, but when you add it to your card is is $2.25. I pointed this out to the cashier and he took note of it, but didn't offer me the 50 cent difference. He was very nice and friendly though. I didn't ask for it because I didn't want to be tacky asking for 50 measly cents. The other issue with the online order form is that there are no descriptions of what is in the actual dish. My example, the Beef Lo Mein... you click on the dish and it gives you a list of what extras you want to add. Since there is no initial description it's pretty damn hard to guess what to add to it. One thing I will say is that there was plenty of beef in the dish! I'm sorry that is the only positive thing about the food. This is my first (and only) visit to the place, so maybe the saltiness was a one-off. Still, the egg rolls were mediocre and unless the online menu is corrected you will be guessing at what your dish contains. Sometimes I give a place 2 or 3 tries, but I won't this time because there are other tastier Asian places around so I don't need to subject myself to that food again. read more

Dirt need to sitcha down and have a talk. Yen Ching was a staple of the Northside. The building was ornate, and it kept displays of Chinese figurines, including one of General Gwan Yu. A big ol' Buddha statue graced the front of the restaurant. The owners brought some of China with them to make the restaurant that was on 76th and Good Hope. Then they sold it. Then COVID hit. Then it shut down. Dirt wept tears, and poured more than a few out for his homies. Dirt was a mess. Yen Ching was a beacon of great taste and comfort in a city that was losing its way. Places moved in and places shut down. Yen Ching lasted until it couldn't. Enter the Yen Ching Express. The original owners returned with a small take away to much fanfare, and Dirt wept once more. Cashew chicken, their Yen Ching chicken, their Crab Rangoon. All of it is much the same. The sauces are what makes their food so appealing. They taste light but they sit heavy. While you can't sit and enjoy the original vibe, you can enjoy what made the restaurant special. Dirt waited longer for his food than he waits for his paycheck, and it didn't matter. There was a line for a reason. Give these folks your money. They earn it. read more

We constantly heard about how good the food was here so we were excited to try it. Our order consisted of a lunch cashew chicken with fried rice and an orange chicken lunch with fried rice . We also had vegetables egg rolls. The fried rice really didn't have much flavor to it am I orange chicken was a little dry, but the sauce was really good. The eggrolls were salty and we're just OK.. Was expecting so much more based on FB posts. Food was fresh and hot and used good quality ingredients, ie real meat, fresh veggies. Everything was very bland for Chinese food. All 3 of us agreed that the flavor in literally everything we ordered was missing. We had egg rolls, crab Rangoon, Mongolian beef, General's Chicken and Yen Ching Lo Mein. With a 20% tip, $75 is a little pricey. We all agreed that we'd rather dine at our go to place in Grafton(definitely not the one on Hwy 60). Sorry Yen Ching. We wanted this to be better and had high expectations. Service was as advertised. Order at the counter and carry-out. No problem waiting 30min on a Friday night. That was encouraging to see the place busy. Maybe we'll try again someday but not anytime soon. read more

I ordered from Yen Ching what I regularly order from another Chinese restaurant on the East Side of Milwaukee, but I didn't want to do the drive so I stopped in for pick up after UPS run. Not even close....The Crab Rangoon from Yen Ching was SOUR...Yes, sour cream cheese??? The Deluxe Mixed Vegetables was literally a gelatinous glob the next day. Oh, did I mention pretty much tasteless as well....I thought that is where the garlic, brown sauce is supposed to come in...I guess the corn starch or whatever they mixed into the sauce to thicken it up took over....ABSOLUTE WASTE OF $$$. The food isn't very good. I had orange chicken with a side of egg rolls. Overall the food seemed premade / not very fresh tasting. If you're looking for good Chinese food I recommend Hong Ahn Palace or Panda Express. But seriously, how do you mess up egg rolls? The premade egg rolls I buy from metro market taste better. I was soooo happy to hear these guys were coming back. So was everyone else! The first month or so was super busy. I decided to wait patiently for the initial rush to subside. Finally I was able to place an order for Cashew chicken and broccoli beef. It was good, but not old time Yen Ching good. The old cooks must be long retired and the recipes taken with them. I hope that they can regain some of that history again. I'm going to give them another shot and hope they've found their stride. I hope they call on the ancestors for guidance. lol (that's what I say when I'm cooking an elder family members recipe). It takes some time to get it just right. Perhaps I'm holding them to an unrealistic memory of fantabulous food? I haven't been able to find it since the old restaurant changed ownership )The recipes didn't translate to those new owners either). The old yen Ching was special in a hard to replicate way. Thats why everyone was so excited! The original owners' two sons are in charge now. These guys are always nice and they always remembered the customers. I'm happy to see their smiling faces and I wish them nothing but success. They were part of the secret sauce! So far this is a carry out space. I'm hoping for a full service restaurant in the future.
