Solid four stars reflect dimsum menu. It has been a while, so I tried their Mongolian beef and mala pork again... but I was not wowed. Mongolian beef is still VERY onion heavy, and not the dark brown dish with green onions anymore. IT's still tasty, but definitely feels more Americanized than authentic. Mala pork lunch special is not the real authentic Mala dish. Not for me. I asked for hot. But wasn't. But we had American friends with us and they loved the dish, more than the Mongolian beef. So up to your palate! Dimsum Pork and shrimp and chive dumplings were yummy! Looked very home made. Turnip cake with xo sauce is still delicious. Hacao is ok, but not fantastic. Eggplant is delicious. It felt a little less stuffed in this visit, but taste was still on spot. Owner lady (I think she's the owner) was nice and friendly.

Date of delivery: April 10, 2025 One of my coworkers is a huge fan of JJ Chen's and often asks if I want anything when she's ordering. If I'm having a moment of weakness I will agree and get the Sesame Chicken. It's a decent Sesame Chicken--not the best (Hong Ahn Palace or Jing's) but also not the worst (Emperor of China) that I've had, squarely in the middle. Also disappointing is that if you pay cash at delivery, the driver not only has no change, but also does not speak English so whatever you have available to give him is what he's going to get!

Food was delicious. I had the Dim Sum and it was very tasty. Came to the table nice and hot. Prices for the dim sum aren't that high so you can try a bunch of things. Definitely gonna be a regular spot for the future

JJ Chen's is one of the best Chinese spots in the milwuakee area! The owner really prides himself in his food. As my sister and I were the only customers at the time in the shop he came and talked to us. Really friendly guy! The food was high quality and extremely tasty! Of all the places I have tried in Chicago I will say JJ Chens is on my list of places for Chinese I wi good to for food. The service was best I have ever seen at any place. The atmosphere made me think about how Chinese restraunts were back in the 90's. So, I loved it! Definitely give JJ Chen a try!

I have been meaning to try this place for quite some time! It is just in a strip mall on the NE corner of Hwy 100 and Oklahoma. It is not very big inside. 8 tables total and it appears most people get takeout or delivery. I just walked in and ordered, but in the future I will order ahead. I did like how they asked what spice level I would like. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and a chicken egg roll. I ordered spice level 4 and I could go to the 5, but I like spicy. It was all delicious! Prices are very reasonable.

A Cantonese here to support the only dim sum restaurant in Milwaukee! I've always liked getting dim sum here. The quality and the variety are not the best that I've had for sure - but still enjoyed their fast service and hot and flavorful dim sums. Definitely satisfy the craving. My favorites are the Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean Sauce, Stuffed Tofu Skin with Pork & Shrimp and Stir-Fried Turnip Cake with XO Sauce. The Preserved Egg with Pork Congee is great in texture but sometimes lacks some salt - not a big deal I will just add some to adjust a bit. The classic Shu Mai often lacks some flavors too but they are all so big and meaty and worth the price! Overall, I hope Cantonese restaurants like JJ Chen could stay open on Milwaukee!

The restaurant is in a tucked away strip mall and is modest in size and decor. The strip mall also contains hidden treasures like a Chinese bakery/BBQ and an Asian store. We went early on a Saturday evening with friends. The service was excellent, although with some staff there were language hurdles. No matter - everyone made it work and we were left with an abundance of amazing food at a reasonable price. Wine and beers are served, as well as smoothies and other non-alcoholic drinks. BF ordered crab rangoon as a starter, which was good. He liked it more than I did, but it was nice and crispy. I just didn't think it compared to other dishes. My vegetable egg roll was very good as well, but nothing terribly unique. He went bold on the entree and ordered the pork intestine and blood cake dish. He really enjoyed it and said it was quite spicy. The portions are generous and he did bring a lot home. I ordered the homestyle tofu, which normally has pork. I got it without to make it vegetarian friendly. The textures were very good and the sauce was intensely flavorful, but mild. I also ordered a supplementary dish of braised mushrooms and Shanghai greens. Everyone at the table enjoyed this dish, particularly the greens, which are a variety of bok choy, called pac choy. The mushrooms were wonderful, with the texture of wood ears. I also had plenty of leftovers to eat the next day. Our friends ordered the Szechuan spicy pork dumplings and they got rave reviews. My cousin did say they were not overly spicy. She went on to order the sizzling black pepper beef, which she said was good, but not nearly as unique or deeply flavored as the other dishes. Her husband ordered the pork intestine with clear noodles, which he enjoyed but said was extremely spicy. He did leave a lot of sauce behind since it was so hot. He also had the ox tendon and maw in spicy sauce, which came with chopped peanuts on top. He seemed really pleased with that dish. We agreed that we would happily go back to explore the menu more. Everything was excellent and I thought the prices were generally quite reasonable, especially for the quantity of food. I do wish the menu had more descriptive text, so I could familiarize myself with the dishes. The choices are many and overwhelming and the menu is huge. I'd also love to see a symbol for vegetarian options since it's very hard to know otherwise and many of the vegetable dishes included pork or other meat. As we left the restaurant was getting increasingly busy with people waiting by the door for seats. This is a popular place for good reason.

The Spicy Pork Dumplings have become my go-to appetizer, and the fried spring rolls are also very good. On a most recent visit, we ordered hot pot. Our server brought us the sheet to make our selections. You can choose from mild broth, spicy broth, or half tray of each. The spicy is pretty hot with lots of red chili peppers soaking in it, so I scooped out the chili peppers to keep rhe flavor but lessen the impact on my palate. For 2 guests, I recommend choosing 3 items from the list, maybe 2 protein and one veggie or 2 veggie and one protein to start. You can order more if you finish and need more. This is in addition to the two appetizers you will choose, which is included with rhe hot pot dinner. It's a great value! Sze Chuan remains on my short list of go-to's for Chinese dining, and I look forward to my next visit, whenever that may be.

Only two tables in a small storefront. The menu is huge with all my favorites. My Chinese food test is Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. I'm usually disappointed. Not here! Egg roll - again I'm picky - was flavorful and delicious. I worked for a Chinese family restaurant while I was in high school and college, and my bar is always the food we ate as a "family" after service. Cheng Wong comes close. The minute we walked in, a man sitting next to the hostess--who appeared to be part of the restaurant, not a customer--just stared at us. No greeting, no smile... just staring. The hostess also seemed a bit confused when we walked in. She asked if we had reservations; we said no. Then she asked if a high-top table was fine, as if the restaurant were packed. We agreed, assuming there would be a long wait for a regular table. But as she led us over, there were plenty of regular tables available. So right off the bat, the vibe wasn't particularly welcoming. As for the service, the waitress did a great job with the welcome and checked on us at a perfect pace. We also liked the decor--plenty of cute design elements that would make for great photos and draw people in. The menu was well done too: not overwhelming, just the right amount of variety in each category. Honestly, this part is why I gave the place more stars than I probably should have. As for the food, it was just okay for us--though that may have been due to what we ordered. There were only two of us, and we got three dishes: shrimp fried rice, beef chow fun, and kung pao chicken. We thought that would give us a good variety. The food had good flavor, but all three dishes tasted very similar. If you try these same dishes elsewhere, the flavors are usually more distinct. I do wish we had tried more of the appetizers and drinks--maybe that would have changed our rating a bit.
