We continued to engage in our annual Christmas Day Chinese Food Takeout (Ever since we first saw a Christmas Story years ago). It's not always easy to find one open on Christmas,so we were lucky to find the Peking Garden fairly close to our house.We ordered a multitude of different dishes to share.Everyone seemed pleased with the food.We weren't expecting anything special,but Peking Garden was pretty decent.Sometimes it can be pretty hit and miss with Chinese Takeout,with little to no flavor or under/ over cooked.Our order was pretty consistent and decent overall,with the only disappointment being the Spare Ribs.The sauce was ok ,but they were fairly overcooked,so I was disappointed,since they were what I ordered.The food otherwise was ok and tasted how we expected,with no complaints.One big kudo though to Peking Garden for taking time away from their families to be open to take care of us ,and many others,since they were quite busy.We will definitely remember for next year! This place changed ownership a while back and I stopped going here. I was going to try another place for takeout, but they were closed. I thought I would give this place another try. I just ordered takeout and it was ready as soon as I arrived about 10 minutes later. I got the cashew chicken and an egg roll. The egg roll was pretty good, but the cashew chicken was just average. Visually Peking Garden looks run down on both the outside and inside. The lighting is very dim and the first chair I sat on was quite squeaky. Don't let appearances deceive you, though. The food at Peking Garden is worth stopping for. On my visit I ordered the chicken lo mein combo, which came with pork fried rice, two crab rangoon, and an egg roll. I also ordered an additional shrimp egg roll. Never before have I seen a chicken lo mein dish from a Chinese restaurant with mushrooms in it. I don't care for mushroom at all, so I wasn't thrilled to see it, but they were big pieces and easy to pick out. The lo mein also was sitting in a large pool of the sauce it was cooked in, which made for a very messy plate. The pork fried rice was fantastic. Some of the best I've had. The crab rangoon had no hint of crab in it, but they were nice sized and still tasted good even with being a little too sweet. The egg roll that came with the lo mein combo was either pork or chicken, I couldn't tell. It was slightly better than a grocery store freezer section style egg roll, but still had that quality to it. The shrimp egg roll, on the other hand, had a fresh made quality with noticable chunks of shrimp in it. Definitely worth the money. Speaking of money, everything was very well priced, especially considering you get two crab rangoon in addition to the rice and egg roll that are standard at most Chinese restaurants in combo plates. I'm glad I stopped at Peking Garden. My first visit will not be my last. read more

I was surprisingly impressed with this place! I last minute ordered from here as my original place was closed. I found this through Yelp reviews and decided to try it and I'm glad I did. I wanted a combo plate so I could have a main dish with fried rice and an egg roll, seems simple enough but the Bamboo House only has lunch combos so if you come after lunch you are sh%it out of luck I was basically told by them. I remember that this place was not that far and and a guy at work gets family take out from here. I ordered the the Generals tsos chicken combination extra hot that comes with pork fried rice, egg roll and two Crab Rangoons. The combo container felt kind of heavy for $8.55 so I put it on he kitchen scale and it was 2.12 pounds of chicken and rice, not bad. The special combination was exactly what I expected from a neighborhood strip strip mall which is average Chinese take out which was nothing super spectacular but nothing bad which was just what I wanted and what most neighborhood places serve, quick carry out with out having to drive far to one of the known great places. The rice was firm with great texture and not mushy with fluffy yellow/white scrambled eggs and onions with some crunch left in them. The chicken was not dry and had a little spicy heat to it and a mound of it. The egg roll was super average with the Crab Rangoon being the better appetizer with a decent size filling and not a pea size in a big wrapper like I have had before. Overall I spent some time this weekend trying the destination places that I wanted but for Sunday dinner I just wanted some neighborhood Chinese take out and and nothing more and this is exactly what I got, some times it's not all about going out but just grabbing something. read more

Delicious Chinese food. I had the General Tso Chicken, Chicken and snow peas, Shrimp fried rice, Peking Dumplings and egg rolls. Everything was fresh and flavorful. They also deliver within a 5 mile radius. The service was great. We are always greeted nicely by the cashier who was friendly and courteous. The staff/ family here work very hard and it shows. I will start with a positive note, the salt and pepper shrimp was good. The egg rolls were greasy. The sweet-and-sour pork was all breading, basically it was double dipped in bread and the size of the pork was a quarter inch. The two orders of spare ribs were quick crooked possibly just fried and we're tough as all get out. The hot and sour soup was good. As every business is struggling due to the economy why is it so impossible to Provide a quality food product and good customer service. There were 3 of us for dinner on August 26, 2023. It was 5:00 pm. We were the only people eating there at that time. I ordered unsweetened iced tea. When I told the waitress that it had no flavor and I was sure it was water she didn't want to believe me so I just told her I didn't want it. Next she brought an order of crab Rangoon which were good. They gave us the duck sauce in to go packets. I ordered Beef Chow Mein and an egg roll. The 2nd person had Pork Egg Foo Young and an egg roll. The 3rd person ordered Chicken Chow Mein. The 2nd person liked her egg foo young but said her egg roll was flavorless. My egg roll had no flavor either, even with the duck sauce on it. The 3rd person and I didn't like our chow Mein meals at all! We left most of the food there. We told them that there was something wrong with the sauce in both dishes. The sauce was not the sauce we're used to having. It was too sweet and there was a flavor in it we can't figure out what it was. We didn't ask for any money off but the waitress gave us each 3 almond cookies. Nobody else came in to eat the whole time we were there. I won't be going back there again. The service was ok. The only silverware they gave us was a fork. This little gem was a coworkers favorite of mine. For a year I never went and decided to try it one day. I seem to get it weekly now and my family is hooked now too. The food is always hot and fresh and the girl at the counter is super friendly all the time! On top of that, you definitely don't get cheated coming here like other places that are skimpy on the portions. You get a lot and the prices are very affordable for everyone. This place is a solid takeout restaurant. I haven't been inside to eat, but they do offer a nice range of options. When I ordered, my food was ready quickly and I was able to go pick it up within 15-20 minutes. Everything was correct and delicious. We have been going to this place for about 20 years. It has been the only Chinese place we have ever liked in the area. Recently though their food has gone downhill. Their food is still good but the flavors have seemed off the last few times. We are thinking this is because of the new owner. I was very excited to try this place after moving close by. I ordered the Hunan beef combo, the General Tsao chicken combo, and an order of Crab Rangoon. I ordered one combo with the pork fried rice (that it comes with), and the other combo with chicken fried rice (no extra cost). They were both really good, but I favored the pork fried rice. Each combo comes with an egg roll and two crab rangoons! The general tsao chicken breading was not as crunchy and i had hoped, but it might've been ready sooner than the half hour I gave them. It was still very good and flavorful. The hunan beef was to die for and had the perfect amount of heat! The prices are very fair for the amount of food. The Crab Rangoon was very greasy and not crispy and the filling had both and odd taste and texture. The General Tso's chicken was also greasy and not crispy at all, the breading was mushy. The broccoli was not cooked and the overall taste ws blland, not spicy at all. I have ordered from Great Apple in the past and was never disappointed. Peking Garden is my go-to spot for take out American Chinese. Whenever the cravings for Chinese food arise, we stop by here for a quick and awesomely bad for you cheat meal. We have never had any problems with take out and the staff have always been extremely nice when taking our order. Plus you get a TON of food with each order... definitely two full meals worth. This is my favorite Chinese takeout ever. The dining room is a bit old, but no one is ever sitting down there, it's all take out - the food is delicious. The order is always correct ( we have ordered from here no less than 10x. ) I place an order for my family of 4 and it's always ready in about 10-15 mins no matter what time of day. They pack so much food in the containers that with every order it's like 2 meals per person at least. They always throw in extra freebies too! Use to be really good. Now it is terrible will never go back there again. In the summer the dinning area is hot no air conditioning and in winter it is freezing cold. Oh and the restroom has no heat or air also no hot water comes out freezing cold water only. Will never go back there again. However, the crab tag pond are now a mouthful of oil and the chicken and broccoli is now all rubber. It's edible but why waste your money when you can make much better Chinese at home... Even if you don't know how to boil water. ------------------- This is a great local Chinese place if you're looking for friendly staff, good prices, and decent quality food. The child portions are definitely worth going here and the crab ragoons are very good. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because, if you place a take-out order right after their all you can eat buffet, you may get some stale deep fried leftovers. This place is amazing!!! Having lived in West Allis, I quickly became acquainted with Peking Garden. It's a small location with HUGE flavor. Their menu is amazing and their staff is wonderful. When I call, They remember my name and what my "usual" is. They go ABOVE and beyond when it comes to delivery. I work in Greenfield and if I order...Which you can now do online, It comes hot and so fast! This is by far my fave take out location for amazing Chinese, and now with me residing currently in South Milwaukee, I'll still drive all the way across town to my Peking Garden!
