I have been eating CHINESE CHEF for years - 30+ and always raved to others that this was the best in town. I NO LONGER FEEL THIS WAY. EGG FOO YOUNG WAS NOT DONE AND TOO MUCH FOO INSIDE THAT YOU COULDN'T ENJOY (Just extra stringy). The Chinese chicken, they put inside a foam container and staple it close. It's the best Chinese food in the town you the pepper steak fried rice with side order of Chinese fried chicken that my favorite

I stopped at a different Chinese restaurant not too far away earlier in the week (Wing's Chinese) and was disappointed in their food. Hoping to have something better and try a place I hadn't been to yet, I changed my route home and stopped at Chinese Chef. My order consisted of two egg rolls and crab rangoon. Both the egg rolls and crab rangoon had a store bought quality to them, the egg rolls because the filling was mushy and generic and the crab rangoon because the wontons were a bit stale and their presentation seemed too uniform to be freshly made. Even so, both were an upgrade over Wing's Chinese from earlier in the week. Not exactly high praise, but bravo I guess. The menu is very limited compared to other Chinese restaurants, but I'd be willing to give their fried rice a try. read more

I order Pepper Chicken all the time, but this particular time, they gave me Pepper Steak by mistake. I didn't realize it until I got all the way home and put it on my plate. I called them to inform them that they gave me Pepper Steak instead of Pepper Chicken and they said bring it back. I told them it's already on my plate, but they said, bring it back anyway to exchange for the correct order. I thought that maybe they wanted to see it to make sure I was being truthful. So I took it back and they kept it to probably give this to whoever orders this in the future. Usually restaurants will tell you to just keep it or throw it out because it's unsafe to sell it to someone else. I guess Chinese Chef doesn't care about this. read more

Food has always been good. Recently my spouse had a bad experience returned home with his order an realized it was incorrect called an they told him to return it. Mind you he had taken it home) they took it he asked what were they going to do with the food they said have it for there dinner. First time I placed an order here since my go to for chinese food has closed and will be the ABSOLUTE LAST!!! I ordered sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour pork, chicken fried rice and three egg rolls only to get home and find NO SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE or VEGETABLES for the chicken which apparently they serve seperate. When I called to tell them of their error there was no apology and all they did was asked me to come back!!! I was unable to do so with company arriving at my door as I was on the phone and I asked if they would deliver it and they said flat out NO! I do understand that mistakes happen but now if the error was my own I would have asked my friends to wait while I ran back but felt it was the restaurants responsibility to fulfill the order that was already paid for especially since they run a delivery as well as pickup and I had already been there once!!! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE here and I will surely drive a bit further the next time I want chinese food!! Make sure you get what you paid for before leaving a pickup from this place! I'll admit it.... I love Chinese food! Thanks to my brother I have found another place to fulfill my Chinese food craving. This is a family owned and operated establishment and the service is friendly. Call ahead for your order since there isn't really much of a sitting and waiting area. The food is always fresh and hot. You have to try the fried rice with a mixture of pork, beef, and chicken it is really good!! My fave are the spring rolls, chicken strips, and gravy. Yummy! We were looking for somewhere to get Chinese takeout, and Chinese Chef had a bunch of really good reviews. I'm not sure why. I can't speak for their service, but the food was only "meh". The Shrimp fried rice with shrimp sauce that a lot of these other reviewers were talking about? There's no shrimp sauce - anywhere. I even asked for it when we placed the call, and the lady taking our order didn't seem to register that I'd even said it. The fried rice itself was ok...but it was 90% rice, 7% little shrimp (yay!) and about 3% green onion and egg. If you don't like all the extra stuff in your rice, you might like this more than I did. Like the 2-star rating said, I've experienced better. My husband ordered the Mongolian beef, and was really put off by the giant chunks of green onion. It wasn't the least bit spicy, either. We'll probably go (way way) out of our way to order from our old favorite Chinese spot in the future. read more

However, I am unhappy with the service provided tonight and no desire for compromise to resolve the issue. Order always consists of: Eggrolls (2) Crab Rangoon Pepper steak Sweet and Sour Chicken This is my neighborhood Chinese spot and it's probably my second or third favorite Chinese place in the city. The eggrolls are my favorite that I've ever had. I don't personally care too much for Crab Rangoon but my girlfriend loves it. Pepper steak and sweet sour chicken are also some of the best I've ever had. The only problem is that it takes a while to get delivery but the food completely makes up for it every time. 4/5 perfect place for bi-weekly visits if you enjoy Chinese food as much as I do. read more

I have stopped in this place many of times. I always go for chicken fried rice and egg rolls. I like it because you get a large portion for little money. The chicken fried rice is basic, probably should have more chicken in it. It needs more onions and flavor but it will do again for the price. Today I stopped in got the usual but I was feeling a little spontaneous and asked for extra white onions and green onions. I was charged 2.00 for the white onions and 2.00 for the green onions. I ordered this Chinese because it seemed to have really good reviews opposed to others in the area, well I'm not sure if these people were the employees of the place or high-- but I was stoned and this was by far the worst Chinese I have ever eaten in my life. I ordered the Shanghai shrimp which was described as "our original recipe of large shrimp and vegetables cooked in our sweet and tasty homemade sauce." Well I ordered this assuming it would come with the normal vegetables you find in Chinese food ie: broccoli, onions, carrots; I excitingly opened up my Chinese to what looked like someone vomited up tomato soup with the tiniest shrimp I have ever seen and among the slop were onions and...tomatoes? I wasn't aware that tomatoes came in Chinese food. Well I decided to just give it a try anyways as there was a huge pile of rice next to it that looked delicious. The shrimp- absolutely disgusting, I couldn't take more than a bite. So I went to the rice. Like the lady said before me, there really isn't words for what it tasted like- it was almost like salty fire. I'm pretty sure they burnt it. I didn't think it could get much worse than the Shanghai shrimp, but the rice definitely topped it. The egg roll that comes with the combo I ordered is described as "our family recipe, handmade jumbo egg roll filled with more shrimp than ever!" I'm not sure what they consider jumbo and maybe I missed the shrimp because they were as small as the ones in my dish, but all I saw was a very questionable looking meat. The crab Rangoon were alright, however there were very crispy as if they had been sitting awhile. The taste wasn't bad though, they were the only part of the meal I could tolerate to take more that one bite of. I would never recommend this place to anyone, nor would I ever return.
