I can't believe that it has been 12 years since I have been here last when I shop the three stores around them like every three weeks or so. It's carry out only with no indoor dining. The decor is basic and functional with the friendly woman up front. I would do the General Taos lunch special with pork fried rice and a pork egg roll. I completely forgot that they have a full size egg roll that tasted fresh that's better than the average egg roll and cooked in noticeably fresh oil, good job. The lunch special pork fried rice was cooked perfectly and not mushy with good texture and flavor, probably the best lunch special pork fried rice when many places don't put much effort into the lunch special rice. The General Taos chicken has a nice kick to it in a super thick spicy sauce. The breaded chicken was dark meat which I like over white meat. For some unknown reason I have eaten here twice and the food is solid and even though I drive past it, I'm talking the front door and I always miss it because it's small and I'm concentrating on turning into the parking lot for the sweet place on the corner. This was our first time eating from here, and our favorite was the Pu Pu Platter. It came with 2 Egg rolls, 4 large crab Rangoon, 2 very large and very crispy chicken wings, 2 fried shrimp, AND 2 teriyaki chicken skewers. Definitely filling and good variety for $14.50. We also got the Hot & Sour soup (which we order at every Chinese takeout place) and theirs was spicier and oddly a lot thicker than normal. We also got the Mongolian Beef and General Tso's Chicken - very standard. This is my new favorite Asian takeout place in Milwaukee! Everything was packed with flavor and the portions were huge! We ordered a small chicken with broccoli (still enough for two meals), an order of crab rangoons, a small order of chicken fried rice, and an order of sesame chicken. I thoroughly enjoyed everything! The crab rangoons were filled with lots of cream cheese mixture and the chicken wasn't chewy. We also placed our order for takeout in the store and it was ready in 15 minutes! This place is sort of a whole in the wall in the middle of a strip mall. It would be very easy to miss if you didn't know about it. I called my order in ahead of time and ordered the most basic thing...a large chicken fried rice. It didn't take long for it to be ready, probably about the time it took me to get there. The service was okay. They were in the middle of something when I walked in so it took a few minutes for the server to ring me out and serve me my food. When I got the food home, it looked like your basic Chinese food. Nothing special. There were peas, onions, and carrots in the fried rice. I didn't see any egg, which I love in my fried rice. It tasted just mediocre and needed soy sauce to really help it out. In conclusion, I didn't really enjoy it and I don't know that I'd ever return. So we have been getting food from Eat Rice for a number of years for a total of about 25 times. The food is very good but the service leaves much to be desired. As it is only a take out business there only service is timely take out times. Now for the past several years we have been mostly frustrated in this regard. Tonight was a prime example, we ordered the food via phone at 5:30 and were told 60 minutes. Now we know from previous experience that we leave the house at the time they tell us the food will be ready. We are about 10 minutes away so tonight we actually left about 10 minutes later than the time we were told we got there and were told 10 more minutes however it was almost 25 minutes later we left with the food. This type of bad estimate of time has been going on for a few years but this was one of the longest delays. I think we are going to try a different place next time. read more

Eat rice is one of my local go to for Chinese restaurants. As far as the restaurant you are only able to take your food to go, they just have a couple of chairs set up by the door. They definitely fill each container to the top and everything is made to order. Downside is definitely the wait time. Everything is usually at least a 30 minute wait. Just went during the week and called at 6pm and was told it would be 45 minutes for two items. When I got there right at 6:45pm had to wait an additional 12 minutes to get my food. It's a little place with some chairs so u can wait for ur food! On the weekends average wait time is over an hour but so worth it!! Never any issues with the deep fried food which we have had issues elsewhere! There kids when not away at school help on the weekends! Until the mom and pop restaurants get clued in that Americans of today want authentic/native preparation of their homeland's food, we will continue to get the sad, gravy laden Chinese food of the 1950's. Now, that being said, Eat Rice, although having a lot of the aforementioned gravy, is indeed, as other Yelpers have pointed out, one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. Instead of taste, though, I'm going to talk about content. 1. Most Chinese restaurants, whether dine-in or takeout, provide too much rice with their dishes. You end up filling up on the rice and your main dinner has to be refrigerated as leftovers. Then, you have to make more rice the next time you want to eat the leftovers, but you always end up making too much, so now you have leftover rice that goes with nothing else in the fridge or gets thrown out. Am I right? Well, contrary to the directive that is this business' name, you are given the perfect amount of rice to go with your dinner. The only way you will have more is A) if you ordered extra or B) you just don't like rice very much 2. They don't skimp on the size of the cuts of meat, from chicken to beef to shrimp, you're getting chunks of meat, not fingernail sized pieces. See my picture of the shrimp? As big as a fortune cookie! 3. You're getting the meal you paid for, not a bunch of vegetables (celery in particular, ring any bells?) with a piece or two of meat thrown in. Also, you aren't getting crap veggies. My dish had carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, chestnuts, bok choy, green peppers, squash and cabbage in it, but more meat than any of the vegetables! I called in my order and was given a wait time of 30 minutes. In reality, it turned out to be closer to an hour, but I really didn't mind because when I got in, I saw that there was only one person cooking. I'd rather have to wait longer to eat than take a chance that I might be eating half cooked food, especially chicken. When I got home, we dug in. Hubs had the Szechuan beef and I had the Dragon and Phoenix (General Tso's chicken and garlic-y shrimp) both were good, in my opinion (hubs thought his was bland). We also had pork fried rice (standard) and he ate 2 pork egg rolls, which he said were mostly cabbage. Almond cookies were 3 for $.80 and fortune cookies were free (I got a little greedy and grabbed six, but I LOVE fortune cookies!). Overall, I would say it was a good amount of food for the money spent and the taste was better than average. I would go back again to try something different. Honestly, in the Franklin/Greendale-ish area this is the best friggin Chinese you'll get. That "other" place on 76th closer to Rawson just isn't this good. The problems I can see is this ridiculous name: Eat. Rice. What? Ok... ? And the location isn't providing any favorability -- can't friggin see the joint. But it's quite good. My first experience I called in 10 minutes before closing time, not realizing it was 10 minutes to closing time. I only realized when I showed up 15 minutes later to pick up and they were closed and cleaning up. There's a small fridge with refreshments, and a table set with plasticware, fortune cookies, and sauces. Chairs are setup for you to sit and wait for your carry-out. I ordered the chicken and broccoli, the chicken lo mein (this place doesn't have Cantonese-style noodles) and chicken fried rice. Me and the kiddos enjoyed the fried rice and chicken lo mein. I liked the chicken and broccoli as well, kids are just picky eaters. Overall, the food was A-OK... nothing really knocked my socks off. Walking in, I could smell dirty grease. The lights were almost all off, and the walls were incredibly dirty. There is one table, and a few chairs, and nothing more. We placed our order, and waited 20 minutes. We weren't given any soy sauce (used to it being put in the bag at other places) and were told that fortune cookies were .80 each--none included with the meal. Brought the food home, and the best thing we had was the plain white rice. Fried food was extremely greasy. Stir-fry meat appeared to be sliced deli meat. 3 shrimp in a dish that contained shrimp. I suppose I could have asked for extra spicy, but if it's a spicy dish then there should be some kind of a kick. I got nothing! We also ordered pork fried rice. It was O.K.,nothing special. This place is pretty much pick up only (they have one small table inside). They have packets of soy sauce, duck sauce, hot mustard sauce etc. that you need to pick up yourself before you walk out. You're gonna need them. Prices are very reasonable with good portions. We ordered two dinners,pork fried rice,two egg rolls and some almond cookies (for 3 people). The bill was about $33 with tax. Only two of us ate it and it took us over 2 days to finish it. We were told it would be ready in half an hour. We got there 20-25 mins. late (We always allow extra time no matter where we go) Good thing we did, we still had to wait 5 mins or so. Not a problem for us, but worth mentioning. The General tso was pretty good, could've honestly been a little more crisp in my opinion. The soup kinda annoyed me.
