Nothing about my $60 meal was remotely good. The potstickers were cold, the hot sour soup was very pale and lacked the heat. My husband got the combo egg foo young and he failed to find a single shrimp in it and the gravy had absolutely no flavor whatso ever. I ordered the Mongolian beef because I am not a huge veggie fan. Usually Mongolian beef is just beef and green onions but this dish had more veggies (carrots, zucchini and peppers) than beef and the few pieces of beef I got were very chewy. However, this time the sauce was filled with black specks throughout the dish. It looked as though someone had scraped a dirty grill and added the residue to the sauce. Since the restaurant closes at 9:00 PM, I called the next day (Monday) to speak with the manager, Lisa. I explained the issue, but her response was that I should have brought the meal back that same night. Unfortunately, there was no resolution, no apology, and no offer to make things right after serving a subpar meal. We've enjoyed Lychee Garden in the past, but after this experience and the lack of customer service, we won't be returning. read more

I went here on a Monday at 3:30pm for a late lunch. The entrance is somewhat uninviting because the closed double doors lead to a 15ft hallway? coat rack area? with a second set of closed double rooms. Inside is immediately a host stand. There's specials of the side that include steak?! at a Chinese place. I didn't have time to consider this before I was whisked away to a table by the host. The giant room is mostly divided in half, which is good because there were only 3 other tables with people. At one point I was the only customer there. Maybe it would have felt less odd with take out? The staff and food was very quick. I got the Chinese Singapore noodles. The dish was egg heavy on top. It also had some oddly smoke tasting purple bits. The staff was overly accommodating giving me a bowl of spicy chili oil in case mine wasn't hot enough. It added a nice flavor in spots. The medium isn't as hot as many medium salsas, especially Americanize mass produced ones. Lychee Garden, based on this single experience, may be worth going for the lunch special (until 3pm) but I probably wouldn't go for dinner price. Everything was soupy. Lo mein, soupy flavorless noodles with some veggies. General Tso's, somehow the chicken had a strong weird flavor and it was surrounded by liquidy vegetables. Occasionally on social media I see someone ask "what's the best Chinese restaurant in the area". Among the frequent answers to that question is Lychee Garden. For that reason I decided enough waiting; it was time to stop and try it for myself. I ordered two egg rolls and the roast pork lo mein dinner combo with fried rice and pot stickers. Unlike a large portion of restaurants out there, you can tell that these egg rolls are homemade and not from a grocery store freezer. The menu just called them egg rolls instead of specifying what kind, but I was able to learn they were pork egg rolls before I ordered. I didn't love their flavor and I think I found mushroom in one, which I wouldn't be a fan of if that's what it was, but I could be wrong. I like other egg rolls more, so unfortunately theirs wouldn't bring me back. Other than the pot stickers, which were pretty good, the roast pork lo mein combo was disappointing. Portions of the fried rice had a weird taste which made me glad that I didn't order a pint of it like I almost did. Lychee's lo mein is unlike any I've had at other restaurants and I don't mean that in a flattering way. The strips of roast pork in the lo mein were harder than expected and the liquid was incredibly soupy. Not a fan of water chestnuts in my lo mein, either. I'm glad they put the styrofoam container in a plastic bag because I didn't have it sitting completely level in my car and some of the liquid poured out the side. Like the egg rolls, I didn't love the flavor of the lo mein, but I didn't necessarily hate it. It also isn't something I would come back for. Considering lo mein and egg rolls are two of my go to items at Chinese restaurants, Lychee Garden is not going to be my response when I see the "what's the best Chinese restaurant in the area" question again. read more

Fantastic dinner last night! Met a group of girlfriends here. We ended up taking up the bar dining area. We ordered a couple of there combination plates and crab rangoon's. They were amazing! The combo platter wasn't you're average items, while there some crisp and flavorful egg roll, there were also some amazing veal chops that were mind blowing. I've never had anything like these. Also bacon wrapped scallops and shrimps, and baked stuffed oysters. Presentation was great too! We nearly filled up on appetizers so decided to split a couple dishes for entrees. We ordered the Beef Chow Fun and Szechuan Beef. Both were packed with fresh veggies and so flavorful! I like it hot so Lisa brought me some of their home made hot sauce. It was fiery deliciousness! I have driven past this place so many times so I thought I would try them even after reading all the reviews and I was going to report back. I think the reason that I have never stopped by is because it doesn't look like much from the outside but when you walk in it's not bad looking and way nicer than the outside. Exposed wood ceilings was rally cool and table cloths got my attention, one look to the right and wow a nice bar. Rich red colors with black furniture, I like it so I had hi hopes now because it's not a sh%tty place. It's really dimly lit which made my camera hard to focus for the pictures and was weird at first. My service had no issues and the young woman did a wonderful job. One of my fall back fav dishes is the Singapore noodles which which is a curry noodle dish usually with a combination of two meats and shrimp so that's what I got. When I got my Singapore noodles I thought how cool they top it with a fried egg which I have never seen before so I have hi hopes now. My first bite threw me because that distinctive curry flavor was almost non existent, it had a little chair at the table when everywhere else I have had it curry was the head chair at the table. The shrimp was tiny salad shrimp and very skimpy compared to all others I have had. I did like the ratio of meat/vegys/noodles with the vegys having just a little crunch left in them. If I never have had Singapore noodles before this it would just fine but after having this dish from many different places I would say this is not the best example of this dish and I'm not saying it was bad but it was not best example of this dish. Overall I think it's a nice place with some potential and I might return one day to try something else but the Singapore noodles was mised mark. read more

Went there with my daughter yesterday, we ordered the sweet-and-sour chicken and the chicken was so hard she kept saying there was bones in it but it was over fried. And the sweet-and-sour sauce was barely sweet. So I ended up giving my daughter my dinner instead. The lady that was serving us sat at a table 2 away from ours it was basically just staring at us the whole time patiently waiting for us to leave. She didn't even give us a box for our leftovers. And she gave me the bill I asked her if she takes it or do I go front and pay she said that she do it because it's not busy but otherwise I'd have to do it myself you just felt like you weren't welcome there. I am not sure what the rave is all about but this place really was not that good. If you ever had food from Chang Wong on Miller Parkway you will really know how good Chinese food can be. Than again remember most "Chinese" food isn't really Chinese food anyway. Maybe it's because I only tried their buffet and that's why I feel the way I do maybe. I should go back and try something from the menu. I did feel like the food was a little plain, a little over cooked, wasn't over salty but there was nothing spectacular or anything better than any other restaurant that I've ever had. What I did like was the décor, the décor was different but nice. Our waitress was a little different, she just met us but she wanted to tell us her whole life story. She began telling us about her son and his father that she's no longer with. They had a white rice there in a rice cooker that looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a long time. I think that my 1st visit here is not something I should judge it off but maybe I should try it again. Maybe I just want to like the place so I think I'll have to try it. read more

I've been going to restaurant at least 10 years. Today July 3 2022 this relationship has ended. The last 6 times we ordered from them they mest up something on the order. This time when I went back to the restaurant so they could correct the problem. One of the owners never apologized for messing up the order and in fact he basically told me I wasn't welcome there anymore for complaining about having to drive back to the restaurant. Ehhh - it wasn't bad The family & I went to Lychee Garden last week Friday (2/11) for the first time. The experience was so-so. Nothing wowed me. Nothing disgusted me. I would be willing to go back. The restaurant was too crowded for a Friday night. When we first walked in the hostess asked us if we minded sitting on the right side of the restaurant. My first thought is "there aren't any smoking sections anymore, so why would I care which side of the restaurant we were on?" She seated us and handed us menus. Apparently the restaurant has a buffet and it is on the opposite side of the dining room. It wasn't a big deal, as I am not a big fan of buffets. We ordered Sesame Chicken, Curry Beef, Pork fried rice and some Crab Rangoon. My first measure of a quality Chinese style restaurant is their Crab Rangoon. The best in the city belongs to Fortune Chinese on Hwy 100 in Hales Corners. No one else's that I have tried even comes close. Lychee Garden was no exception. They weren't awful, but they simply were not that good. They were bland. You could taste a little bit of the cream cheese but certainly not any crab. The Pork Fried Rice was okay. It wasn't overcooked which seems so common. The Sesame Chicken was a bit different from what I have had in the past. There are two things that stand out. The first was the sauce. It was a black sauce, but I don't know what it tasted like. It wasn't teriyaki or soy sauce. It wasn't overpowering in anyway. It was a nice mild sauce. The other thing that stood out was that the chicken wasn't battered and deep fried. It looked like it was cooked as a part of the dish. This was nice because it also meant that it wasn't overcooked and stringy. The star of the meal was the Curry Beef. We ordered our medium spicy. It was just the right amount of after bite. The beef was tender and flavorful. It was simply a really good dish. Overall, the portion sizes were a bit small when compared to other Chinese restaurants. Usually when the family goes out for Chinese we have enough for lunch the next day. This time there was only some fried rice and a little bit of Sesame Chicken left to box up. When combined with the prices of individual dishes, it left a bit to be desired. IIRC, The fried rice was $9 and the main dishes were in the $12-15 range. When merged with the quality of the dishes (except the Crab Rangoon) it wasn't bad. For the four of us, we had the above dishes plus a couple of lemonades to drink (me and the son had water). Our bill was $45. Again - it wasn't bad but just don't expect to leave with lunch for tomorrow. The service was fine. My water glass was barely empty. The food came to us hot. We walked in on a Friday night at about 7:00pm. The parking lot was full...but all the patrons were ar the bar. The vibe was weird..like you took the attendees of a 70's swinger's party and fast forwarded them 40 years and then put them in a poorly decorated Chinese restaurant. First we ordered drinks...iced tea for me and diet cola for my husband. The iced tea was Chinese hot tea iced up and it tasted like chemicals. The soda tasted like they didnt clean their lines. The waitress, who was very nice but clueless with 70's winged back hair, kept pushing the free soda refills. No thanks we said. Water is great. The food was ....disgusting. I ordered the egg drop soup which consisted of browned egg whites in salty gelatinous broth. My husband ordered the crab rangoons. No sauce accompanying them...just dried rangoons. The dinner was a horror show. I had chicken with broccoli...which was basically white goo with strangely sliced and very thin chicken on coarsely chopped broccoli. I had to put a bunch of soy sauce on it to give it any flavor and the consistency was sloppy. My husband ordered cashew chicken. It tasted like canned La Choy reheated in the microwave. The rice was decent..but the peas had freezer burn. Halfway through dinner one of the bar patrons decided to fill the restaurant with his best rendition of a loud boisterous drunk. To top it off, the fortune cookies were stale. Expensive mistake. We won't be returning and if you are interested in someone heating up your La Choy..this is the place for you. read more
