So sadly we won't be going back to Great Tatste in Wauwatosa any longer. I had been a long time customer of theirs back 20 years or more. But with these last past 2 deliveries I can't support any eatery who essentially steals from customers. I had to order through Doordash because their driver only serviced Wauwatosa residents. And with the 1st order they totally forgot my almond cookies. On the order the next day, they did send the cookies, but went and billed me an extra $4.47 because I requested sweet & sour sauce to go along with the 2 orders of Chinese fried chicken sticks that I had paid for. I was thinking I'd be receiving a container of their homemade sweet & sour sauce (they advertise this on the menu for $4), that's why I didnt make a biggie about it. But then I get the bag and inside there's like 10 of those generic packs of sweet sour sauce. Like WTH! These should have automatically came with chicken sticks. Shouldn't have to pay almost $5 extra dollars for those. And both of their soups, the chicken noodle & wonton was near the spoiling stage & not very good at all. And $9 for a quart of soup when it was mostly noodles. Oh c'mon on. The Almond cookies where they used to give 5, for like $1.25, now you only get 2 of them for a whopping $2.50. What is going on? And they were soft and wet, with a strange texture. They used to be flavorful and crispy. Just ashame that a once great Chinese take-out has succumbed to this low level. One redeeming quality that they do possess, is whoever answers their phones (I've spoken with a man and a lady) are really patient, polite and nice. And that does go a long way when running a restaurant. I'll give them an extra star for that. However, I just can't get past my last experience & won't be ordering again. read more

Loved the vibe of the place. This restaurant was poorly reviewed a little less than a year ago so I was hesitant to come. The service was fast, the lobby was awesome and the food came out great. Free cookies were fantastic too! read more

So disappointing. Order Mongolian Beef, which was a ton of onions and the beef was like meatloaf. Also had pork fried rice and pork egg foo yong and it was like nothing I've ever experienced before. Save your money. read more

I have been jonesing for some Chinese food for awhile and was not in the mood to drive to my usual spot. So I stopped here about 2 weeks ago after work and from reading the reviews and looking at the pictures I felt this may be my new back up place to go to grab dinner for carry out. I usually order the same thing and on occasion will order something different but because this was my first time ordering form here I feel going with the shrimp fried rice and house egg rolls would be the way to go. The shrimp fried rice was full of shrimp which I really liked. There was enough rice in there to split with 2 people, but I was quite hungry so I was able to kill the whole pint. I ordered 2 house eggrolls. I really liked the flavor of them, but there were a couple things to address. One of the eggrolls was a tad greasy and had to get a paper towel and dab of the excess oil. There was barely any shrimp in the eggrolls and they could have a little more filling. Overall, I would for sure order from here again and I can't believe I haven't ordered from here considering how many times I have drove past this place. When I went to pick up my food I grabbed a menu and I saw that they offer lunch specials which is something to consider when I'm working from home. read more

I recently tried a different Chinese restaurant a few blocks east of Great Taste (also on North Ave), so having that experience fresh in my mind, I decided to give Great Taste a try and compare the two. I didn't have as much time on my hands for a full meal like I did with the other restaurant, so I just ordered a pair of house egg rolls (pork and shrimp) to go. I regret that it's taken me so long to try Great Taste. In this area of Milwaukee/Wauwatosa I usually use China East's egg roll as the gold standard for comparison. The house egg roll from Great Taste is just as good as China East's and I could reasonably be convinced that it's better. For sure, it's far better than the egg rolls from the other restaurant on North Ave. The filling may be heavy on cabbage, but it's absolutely freshly made with no hint of store bought quality. I found multiple pieces of pork and shrimp in each egg roll, which impressed me because shrimp tends to get skimped on when it's not the only protein in an egg roll. They're a little pricier than others at $2.50 each as of 1/26/23, but I'd rather pay more for a better egg roll than settle for a lesser, cheaper one. I'm also impressed that the menu lists out the ingredients for items like the lo mein. Most Chinese restaurants will simply say "soft noodles" or something like that under the lo mein header. I appreciate knowing all of the ingredients in advance so I'm prepared and informed when I place my next order. The menu has multiple items on it that interest me, so I look forward to stopping again soon. read more

This place sucks. Got DoorDash from Here for my birthday today and it's so mediocre. I didn't even get utensils. Everything is about money and not quality like. Ugh. I hate that I wasted my money on this raggedy place. read more

I stopped here for lunch not expecting much because most Chinese food is average with the tiny egg roll with mush on the inside. The place has tables and chairs but it's not set up so it looks like take out and it was dead which had me thinking I picked the wrong place for lunch. I ordered the Mongolian beef combination plate with an egg roll and chicken fried rice. The bag was kinda weighty so that was a good sign. WOW the house egg roll was a beautiful full sized one with pork and shrimp. The egg roll was nice and crispy with fresh crispy cabbage and good flavor, way better than most places because it wasn't soggy frozen crap. The chicken fried rice had lots of big chunks of chicken and probably the most chicken in a fried rice combination plate. The rice also had good flavor like a char flavor from a seasoned wok. The Mongolian beef had tender beef with that sweetness and flavorful also. Overall this Chinese restaurant was very good and better than expected/average and I would definitely go back again just for the egg rolls. read more

I can't say that this is the best Egg Fu Yung in Milwaukee if I haven't tried everyone (although some make such claims), but this one is VERY GOOD because the portions are generous, the flavor is outstanding and the price is reasonable. You try too! (10/14/2024) read more

We wanted a quick meal on a Thursday evening and this place was only two blocks away and offered take out quickly. We approached the register and a clerk was ready to take our order of a combination dinner of beef and broccoli with egg rolls and fried rice. Not more than 10 minutes went by and our food was ready to take home and consume. There were a few more vegetables than just broccoli and we were happy for that. The rice was a chicken fried rice blend and the crispy egg rolls were good. A fortune cookie for all three of us was included read more

Ordered the egg food young and another time the beef & brocolli. Delivery was fast & food tasted great

It's all in the name! Great taste = great service, great food, and great prices! If you're wanting quick and easy take out, or a chill place to eat, this is your spot. Best parts about this place is how nice the staff is, and also how generous they are with their serving sizes despite the price. I love it here! read more

Horrible. Wished I had gone somewhere else. The food taste was unrecognizable. May have been a one-off but it was my first time and would likely be my last. read more

My first time food was delicious. Me and my daughter enjoyed what we ordered and I will return back.

The place is quite small but don't let that fool you. The food is top notch, and the staff are incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. I especially recommend the egg rolls which are made to perfection. read more

Very good. Sauces were good. Service was good. No sit down but pick up is fine. Have tried 2 dish but going back for more.

Stopped in quickly for an order of chicken fried rice, and extremely impressed with their fried rice. I typically frequent a different Chinese restaurant on North Ave, but since they're closed until August 1st, I stopped here for the first time. Great Taste has cheaper fried rice and it's delicious! Called and ordered so easily and quickly and the cashier was friendly and offered silverware, although I declined. Will definitely be back and try other foods! read more

Excellent tasting food. Have not been disappointed here yet. Prices are great as well.

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! Everything on the menu is amazing, but I love to get the shrimp fried rice with the veggie egg rolls as a staple. It reminds me of my favorite Chinese restaurant growing up by Detroit! They are always the nicest and really brighten my day just talking on the phone to order. It's hard to find good egg rolls around Milwaukee, so I drive from downtown to tosa just to get takeout at Great Taste! Thanks for being wonderful :) read more

Tried this place based on Next Door recommendations during covid-19 since a bunch of the Chinese restaurants were closed in West Allis. Delivery was fast. Got it in 30 min on a sat night. Chicken subgum and the Double Treasure were delicious. Big, thick, crunchy veggies in the subgum and lots of scallops in Double Treasure. Egg drop soup and the potstickers were good as well. Will experience again since there were other meals and appetizers we wanted to try. read more

The lady was super nice at the counter, my food was fresh and delicious and I didn't have to wait long.

Great variety and food was very good. Delivery took an hour, which is average. Crab Raggoon was awesome! As was Sesame Chicken, Chicken Hong Sue and S/S Pork. Large portions: average prices. $2.50 delivery fee First time ordering, will definitely be back! Only item we didn't care for were egg rolls... too much ginger. But that's just us! Plentiful rice and sauces. Highly recommend. read more

Sorry but this is hands down the best takeout Chinese in Wauwatosa. The food is made to order, fresh and flavorful. The vegetables crunch and the meat has just the right amount of chew. Best of all the food doesn't have that salty, sticky, MSG-tainted flavor most Chinese takeout has. It tastes like real food! With none of that regretful aftertaste that fast food style Chinese tends to leave you with. Nice people too. They definitely take pride in their business. read more

The food is always amazing , the ambiance is so zen and relaxing. The service always feels like grandma's house.

I was pleasantly surprised. The veggies are top grade super fresh veggies. And all dishes we ordered had generous portion sizes. Also generous was the amount of free cookies and condiments added to the bags. MOST importantly: I don't think they added MSG. Or at least not the toxic amounts most other Chinese places do. My only complaint would be that the "spicy" mixed veggies were not spicy at all. But the veggies were so flagrant that I was still happy. The mini corn tasted earthy, the carrots sweet and ... carroty. The bamboo was delicious and not woody at all. And then there's the price. The most inexpensive restaurant offers the best quality. I just had to write a 1-star review for a different restaurant ): where I stated: A case of "save a few cents to lose a few benjamins." This one is the other way around. I'll order again, and again, and again, and again. read more

LOVE Great Taste! Chen the owner is wonderful & she always makes sure my orders are made Gluten Free! Tasty, hot and fast!

I came here trying to find something different to eat since William Ho's closed down last year. This is my second time here, I ordered the General Tso lunch special. They are really generous with their portions. It took me three days to finish. It's definitely worth it, I can't wait to explore more of the the menu. The service is pretty fast. read more

I live nearby and I just wanted something other than McDonald's or Taco Bell. Read the reviews and decided to get some takeout from Great Taste. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't mean surprised as in I thought it was gonna be bad, I just don't order takeout that often and usually if I do, it's pizza or subs. This place was great. I called, placed my order, was told it would be about 15 minutes. I arrived, and the lady behind the counter greeted me so nicely with the biggest smile on her face. I got my order, told her I lived nearby and that it was my first time eating from there, and she thanked me for stopping at their restaurant. That right there is enough for 5 stars from me. In regards to the food, I got the kung pao chicken combo plate, and an order of the crab Rangoon. The Rangoons were nice and crispy, with good flavor. Just what I expected. The egg roll that came with my order was amazingly made, perfect crunch with each bite and the right amount of flavors. The kung pao with the chicken fried rice was SOOO GOOD. Perfect spiciness, the vegetables were amazing, and the rice went with it so well. I will definitely be going to this place more often. I can't recommend it enough! read more

Great food , great prices, great delivery service. This is one of the top 2 places with the best shrimp fried rice in the city and I'm standing on that comment. Also they have amazing gravy. You can't ask for gravy every place you go , but this gravy is good. Their lunch specials are something you want to make sure not to miss. I love this place. read more

Worst delivery service ever! While the food is just ok - nothing special - the delivery people are terrible. I live in an apartment complex which is clearly marked and the guy couldn't find the right building. When he finally did, he refused to come inside. I had to go out and locate him. Then he yelled at me when I showed him how the intercom works. read more

I have still been on my search of my go to Chinese food and unfortunately I don't think this was the place. I ordered sesame chicken and I couldn't finish my plate because the chicken tasted as if it had been microwaved or just old. I also ordered egg drop soup which was an odd orange color and the sweet and sour soup which was pretty flavorless. They don't have any fountain drinks which is kind of annoying because then you can't get ice. This restaurant seems to be more of a takeout place as the interior decor appears to be left over from the previous business, maybe an old seafood restaurant or store? Good customer service but I don't think I will be coming back. All entrées are also served in plastic containers which is a turn off since I don't like to eat off of plastic for health reasons. The only thing I did enjoy is the veggie spring rolls. read more

Good and service are great. Wonderful people there. The fried rice and Singapore noodles are amazing.

I just want to say the taste of the food is awesome, the service is spectacular and the food is ready in a timely manner. I love it!

Pretty quick delivery. The veggies are always good and cooked Al dente. Great portion sizes.

Some days when you just don't want to cook and looking for some tasty food check this place out. The chicken and mixed vegetables is one of my favorites. If you enjoy soup try the seafood soup. It's exactly what want on a chilly winter night ( but let me be serious here I love soup all year round)!!! They offer all the traditional take out Chinese food. The steamed dumplings are quite delicious as well. The staff is always very welcoming and polite. I usually go and pick up my food instead of having it delivered because it's a lot quicker. However, if you don't feel like leaving your house you can get delivery. Give this place a try I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more
