I have been jonesing for some Chinese food for awhile and was not in the mood to drive to my usual spot. So I stopped here about 2 weeks ago after work and from reading the reviews and looking at the pictures I felt this may be my new back up place to go to grab dinner for carry out. I usually order the same thing and on occasion will order something different but because this was my first time ordering form here I feel going with the shrimp fried rice and house egg rolls would be the way to go. The shrimp fried rice was full of shrimp which I really liked. There was enough rice in there to split with 2 people, but I was quite hungry so I was able to kill the whole pint. I ordered 2 house eggrolls. I really liked the flavor of them, but there were a couple things to address. One of the eggrolls was a tad greasy and had to get a paper towel and dab of the excess oil. There was barely any shrimp in the eggrolls and they could have a little more filling. Overall, I would for sure order from here again and I can't believe I haven't ordered from here considering how many times I have drove past this place. When I went to pick up my food I grabbed a menu and I saw that they offer lunch specials which is something to consider when I'm working from home. read more

I recently tried a different Chinese restaurant a few blocks east of Great Taste (also on North Ave), so having that experience fresh in my mind, I decided to give Great Taste a try and compare the two. I didn't have as much time on my hands for a full meal like I did with the other restaurant, so I just ordered a pair of house egg rolls (pork and shrimp) to go. I regret that it's taken me so long to try Great Taste. In this area of Milwaukee/Wauwatosa I usually use China East's egg roll as the gold standard for comparison. The house egg roll from Great Taste is just as good as China East's and I could reasonably be convinced that it's better. For sure, it's far better than the egg rolls from the other restaurant on North Ave. The filling may be heavy on cabbage, but it's absolutely freshly made with no hint of store bought quality. I found multiple pieces of pork and shrimp in each egg roll, which impressed me because shrimp tends to get skimped on when it's not the only protein in an egg roll. They're a little pricier than others at $2.50 each as of 1/26/23, but I'd rather pay more for a better egg roll than settle for a lesser, cheaper one. I'm also impressed that the menu lists out the ingredients for items like the lo mein. Most Chinese restaurants will simply say "soft noodles" or something like that under the lo mein header. I appreciate knowing all of the ingredients in advance so I'm prepared and informed when I place my next order. The menu has multiple items on it that interest me, so I look forward to stopping again soon. read more

I stopped here for lunch not expecting much because most Chinese food is average with the tiny egg roll with mush on the inside. The place has tables and chairs but it's not set up so it looks like take out and it was dead which had me thinking I picked the wrong place for lunch. I ordered the Mongolian beef combination plate with an egg roll and chicken fried rice. The bag was kinda weighty so that was a good sign. WOW the house egg roll was a beautiful full sized one with pork and shrimp. The egg roll was nice and crispy with fresh crispy cabbage and good flavor, way better than most places because it wasn't soggy frozen crap. The chicken fried rice had lots of big chunks of chicken and probably the most chicken in a fried rice combination plate. The rice also had good flavor like a char flavor from a seasoned wok. The Mongolian beef had tender beef with that sweetness and flavorful also. Overall this Chinese restaurant was very good and better than expected/average and I would definitely go back again just for the egg rolls. read more

We wanted a quick meal on a Thursday evening and this place was only two blocks away and offered take out quickly. We approached the register and a clerk was ready to take our order of a combination dinner of beef and broccoli with egg rolls and fried rice. Not more than 10 minutes went by and our food was ready to take home and consume. There were a few more vegetables than just broccoli and we were happy for that. MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! Everything on the menu is amazing, but I love to get the shrimp fried rice with the veggie egg rolls as a staple. It reminds me of my favorite Chinese restaurant growing up by Detroit! They are always the nicest and really brighten my day just talking on the phone to order. Tried this place based on Next Door recommendations during covid-19 since a bunch of the Chinese restaurants were closed in West Allis. Delivery was fast. Got it in 30 min on a sat night. Chicken subgum and the Double Treasure were delicious. Big, thick, crunchy veggies in the subgum and lots of scallops in Double Treasure. Egg drop soup and the potstickers were good as well. Great variety and food was very good. Delivery took an hour, which is average. Crab Raggoon was awesome! As was Sesame Chicken, Chicken Hong Sue and S/S Pork. I was pleasantly surprised. The veggies are top grade super fresh veggies. And all dishes we ordered had generous portion sizes. Also generous was the amount of free cookies and condiments added to the bags. MOST importantly: I don't think they added MSG. Or at least not the toxic amounts most other Chinese places do. My only complaint would be that the "spicy" mixed veggies were not spicy at all. But the veggies were so flagrant that I was still happy. The mini corn tasted earthy, the carrots sweet and ... carroty. The bamboo was delicious and not woody at all. And then there's the price. The most inexpensive restaurant offers the best quality. I just had to write a 1-star review for a different restaurant ): where I stated: A case of "save a few cents to lose a few benjamins." This one is the other way around. I live nearby and I just wanted something other than McDonald's or Taco Bell. Read the reviews and decided to get some takeout from Great Taste. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't mean surprised as in I thought it was gonna be bad, I just don't order takeout that often and usually if I do, it's pizza or subs. This place was great. I called, placed my order, was told it would be about 15 minutes. I arrived, and the lady behind the counter greeted me so nicely with the biggest smile on her face. I got my order, told her I lived nearby and that it was my first time eating from there, and she thanked me for stopping at their restaurant. That right there is enough for 5 stars from me. In regards to the food, I got the kung pao chicken combo plate, and an order of the crab Rangoon. The Rangoons were nice and crispy, with good flavor. Just what I expected. The egg roll that came with my order was amazingly made, perfect crunch with each bite and the right amount of flavors. The kung pao with the chicken fried rice was SOOO GOOD. Perfect spiciness, the vegetables were amazing, and the rice went with it so well. I will definitely be going to this place more often. I can't recommend it enough! read more

Worst delivery service ever! While the food is just ok - nothing special - the delivery people are terrible. I live in an apartment complex which is clearly marked and the guy couldn't find the right building. When he finally did, he refused to come inside. I had to go out and locate him. I have still been on my search of my go to Chinese food and unfortunately I don't think this was the place. I ordered sesame chicken and I couldn't finish my plate because the chicken tasted as if it had been microwaved or just old. I also ordered egg drop soup which was an odd orange color and the sweet and sour soup which was pretty flavorless. They don't have any fountain drinks which is kind of annoying because then you can't get ice. This restaurant seems to be more of a takeout place as the interior decor appears to be left over from the previous business, maybe an old seafood restaurant or store? Good customer service but I don't think I will be coming back. All entrées are also served in plastic containers which is a turn off since I don't like to eat off of plastic for health reasons. Some days when you just don't want to cook and looking for some tasty food check this place out. The chicken and mixed vegetables is one of my favorites. If you enjoy soup try the seafood soup. It's exactly what want on a chilly winter night ( but let me be serious here I love soup all year round)!!! They offer all the traditional take out Chinese food. The steamed dumplings are quite delicious as well. The staff is always very welcoming and polite. I usually go and pick up my food instead of having it delivered because it's a lot quicker. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken it was placed as a work take out order once I received my order I noticed there was a fruit fly i called and explained the situation and ask for a refund or for a meal replacement, I was told that I would not receive a refund or replacement meal unless I bring the food myself. I explained that I was at work and lived on the other side of town so I would not be able to bring the order in. I asked to speak to the manager I was then told the manager didn't speak good English so she wouldn't be able to take my call as well as they are a small mom and pop place so they don't follow those rules.
