I decided to stop over for a late lunch and try a new place today because it's in an area that I don't get to a lot and to also to see what else is in the area. Yelp had no menu link so I hoped that they had some lunch specials so I could try a few items. The place is in a strip mall with plenty of parking so that was nice. What I thought was super cool was the free face mask at the front door because lots of places charge for them. The menu did have lunch specials and that's what I got. The place has the dining room closed so you can't eat in so I got carry out only which C19 has got me completely ok with. I ordered the General Taos chicken with pork fried rice that comes with an egg roll which didn't take long. The pork fried rice was in name only because it's super scarce with a few peas, carrots and onions that was cooked perfect with a grill flavor like from a seasoned wok and very average. The General Taos chicken was mostly small dark meat pieces that were clinging to each other to appear like much larger pieces and once again average. The egg roll was better than average because it was crispy with fresh veggies inside that had come crunch left in them so not the mushy kind like some places. All in all its a solid average lunch special like most places and I have had better and worse but I did like that it was hot and cooked to order.

Always hits the spot. I really like the Pepper Steak with Tomato, so much food! Yum! A great local spot with friendly staff.

We ordered 4 meals this evening and they were all delightful. My wife got the Peppersteak with Tomato, I got the Kung Bo Chicken which was peanuts, peppers and celery. Delish! My son said his Orange Chicken (which also has broccoli) was dang good, and his girlfriends Hunan Chicken which had peapods, peppers and broccoli and more! If I had to change anything it would be to spice it up a bit more. I like to add the chinese mustard to kick it up a notch.

Fast and fresh. Great place for Chinese food. My family and I have been going here for over 10 years and love it; however, in the past 6 or so months we have noticed that the egg rolls have gotten extremely small. I wish they would bring back the old size that were large and the perfect ratio. Overall good place though.

Sauces were not soaked into the food. Not like how it use to be. Fresh veggies but does not blend well. Rice seems like plastic.

Sze Chuan Restaurant - Vegetable eggroll

I should have eaten at Sze Chuan ages ago. I was told it was amazing. I even lived very near to it…read morein the past. It's been on my list, but I didn't go. That was an error. The restaurant is in a tucked away strip mall and is modest in size and decor. The strip mall also contains hidden treasures like a Chinese bakery/BBQ and an Asian store. We went early on a Saturday evening with friends. The service was excellent, although with some staff there were language hurdles. No matter - everyone made it work and we were left with an abundance of amazing food at a reasonable price. Wine and beers are served, as well as smoothies and other non-alcoholic drinks. BF ordered crab rangoon as a starter, which was good. He liked it more than I did, but it was nice and crispy. I just didn't think it compared to other dishes. My vegetable egg roll was very good as well, but nothing terribly unique. He went bold on the entree and ordered the pork intestine and blood cake dish. He really enjoyed it and said it was quite spicy. The portions are generous and he did bring a lot home. I ordered the homestyle tofu, which normally has pork. I got it without to make it vegetarian friendly. The textures were very good and the sauce was intensely flavorful, but mild. I also ordered a supplementary dish of braised mushrooms and Shanghai greens. Everyone at the table enjoyed this dish, particularly the greens, which are a variety of bok choy, called pac choy. The mushrooms were wonderful, with the texture of wood ears. I also had plenty of leftovers to eat the next day. Our friends ordered the Szechuan spicy pork dumplings and they got rave reviews. My cousin did say they were not overly spicy. She went on to order the sizzling black pepper beef, which she said was good, but not nearly as unique or deeply flavored as the other dishes. Her husband ordered the pork intestine with clear noodles, which he enjoyed but said was extremely spicy. He did leave a lot of sauce behind since it was so hot. He also had the ox tendon and maw in spicy sauce, which came with chopped peanuts on top. He seemed really pleased with that dish. We agreed that we would happily go back to explore the menu more. Everything was excellent and I thought the prices were generally quite reasonable, especially for the quantity of food. I do wish the menu had more descriptive text, so I could familiarize myself with the dishes. The choices are many and overwhelming and the menu is huge. I'd also love to see a symbol for vegetarian options since it's very hard to know otherwise and many of the vegetable dishes included pork or other meat. As we left the restaurant was getting increasingly busy with people waiting by the door for seats. This is a popular place for good reason.

Sze Chuan is still one of my top 3 favorite Chinese restaurants in the Milwaukee area. It seems…read morethey are always busy, but the staff also does a good job getting guests seated, managing the wait list, getting food served and tables turned without rushing the guests. The Spicy Pork Dumplings have become my go-to appetizer, and the fried spring rolls are also very good. On a most recent visit, we ordered hot pot. Our server brought us the sheet to make our selections. You can choose from mild broth, spicy broth, or half tray of each. The spicy is pretty hot with lots of red chili peppers soaking in it, so I scooped out the chili peppers to keep rhe flavor but lessen the impact on my palate. For 2 guests, I recommend choosing 3 items from the list, maybe 2 protein and one veggie or 2 veggie and one protein to start. You can order more if you finish and need more. This is in addition to the two appetizers you will choose, which is included with rhe hot pot dinner. It's a great value! Sze Chuan remains on my short list of go-to's for Chinese dining, and I look forward to my next visit, whenever that may be.

Sze Chuan Restaurant - HOT POT!! It's fun, you dunk the meats into the broth. If you like it spicy the hot side has some zing!!

Their "combination fried rice is to die for. My personal favorite dish is "Combination Egg-Foo Young!" Egg rolls are always full and Pot stickers are terrific. I got out of a movie on Christmas day just before 7pm and looked online for a Chinese restaurant…read morethat I could order takeout from. China Dragon was open and still accepting orders (though they said it was a 50 minutes wait), so I placed one for pickup. My order included beef lo mein, chicken egg rolls, and chicken teriyaki sticks. The egg rolls were gross. At one point I bit into something hard, but it was dark in the car so I couldn't tell exactly what it was (might have been a bone from the chicken?). They were greasy, heavy on the cabbage, and not much else flavor wise other than the occasional piece of chicken. I wouldn't want these again. The lo mein wasn't much better. Super oily sauce that was loaded with enough garlic to take out a vampire a mile away and the beef was low quality in my opinion. Like the egg rolls, I wouldn't want this again. I don't know what specific menu item I received instead of the chicken teriyaki sticks, but it certainly isn't what I ordered. The sauce had some heat due to the large amount of red pepper flakes and there were onions, green peppers, and broccoli mixed in with a container of white rice on the side. The chicken itself was breaded, similar to General Tso's, but this clearly wasn't General Tso's. I was already back home by the time I discovered their mistake and didn't feel like driving back to New Berlin, so I ate what I could. It tasted fine and was ironically the best of the three items I received.

NOTE: the pictures of the menu/prices on Yelp are VERY outdated. Some items may no longer be available, and the prices are higher, but fairly reasonable. This restaurant does a brisk phone/carryout business; however, there is a small dining area in the next room. In any case, you place your order at the counter and pay in advance. We were able to order the items we wanted; however, a few errors were made with my sister's order (Shrimp and Vegetables). Thankfully, she was able to pick out the vegetables she couldn't eat. She also ordered Crab Rangoon, and it was about average. My Shrimp Egg Foo Young was delicious. The portion size was generous, and I was able to take home more than half of the order. The Veggie Spring Rolls I ordered were small, but hot and crispy. I was disappointed that I did not receive the hot mustard that I requested, but there were other dipping sauces available, so I made do. Both of our meals came with our choice of white rice or fried rice, so we both chose the fried rice. We received our food quickly, and everything was piping hot. We both felt that they did a very good job with the food, despite the minor errors. I do believe that there may have been a slight communication issue due to language, but if you don't have a special request, you should do just fine. In any case, we both liked it enough to say that we would go back again. The restaurant is not fancy, but it's casual and welcoming. The lobby and dining area were clean, and the bathroom was clean, well stocked, and it smelled fresh.
