My sister and I were in the area and craving Chinese food. China House was nearby, and is located at the north end of a strip mall on the northwest corner of 27th and College. NOTE: the pictures of the menu/prices on Yelp are VERY outdated. Some items may no longer be available, and the prices are higher, but fairly reasonable. This restaurant does a brisk phone/carryout business; however, there is a small dining area in the next room. In any case, you place your order at the counter and pay in advance. We were able to order the items we wanted; however, a few errors were made with my sister's order (Shrimp and Vegetables). Thankfully, she was able to pick out the vegetables she couldn't eat. She also ordered Crab Rangoon, and it was about average. My Shrimp Egg Foo Young was delicious. The portion size was generous, and I was able to take home more than half of the order. The Veggie Spring Rolls I ordered were small, but hot and crispy. I was disappointed that I did not receive the hot mustard that I requested, but there were other dipping sauces available, so I made do. Both of our meals came with our choice of white rice or fried rice, so we both chose the fried rice. We received our food quickly, and everything was piping hot. We both felt that they did a very good job with the food, despite the minor errors. I do believe that there may have been a slight communication issue due to language, but if you don't have a special request, you should do just fine. In any case, we both liked it enough to say that we would go back again. The restaurant is not fancy, but it's casual and welcoming. This is hands down my favorite place ever to get Chinese food. Consistently delicious and speedy service. This is one of those word of mouth places you continuously thank which ever friend/family member that told you about it. Stand out item for me here is the Crab Rangoon. I called the response was they would give me credit for next time I order you live to far to bring next time don't order soda and wouldn't refund the credit card. This place is one of my favorite places to go for Chinese food in the city. Always reasonably priced, they always cook everything fresh to order, and the food is always consistently good. The sesame chicken and general tso chicken are our main entrees we order. Last time I tried the Mongolian beef and it was delicious! The crab Rangoons are always a must order from here too. It's nice to have something on the south side of Milwaukee that's always this consistent and delicious. If you're looking for some good food without the big price tags, this is the place to go. read more

A little pricey - but consistently fantastic! My kids love the sesame chicken , we almost always get the delicious crab rangoons, and have tried many other menu items - all wonderful! I have this place bookmarked for a while because of the 4 stars that they have so I stopped by for lunch today. This is the typical Asian take out place with a small dining room and no one in the place like most of them, how do all these empty Asian places stay in business. The menu has all the regulars and I would do my combo plate thing to get the fried rice and egg roll. I had the garlic beef with chicken fried rice and pork egg roll. The pork egg looked promising because it was not the mini one and more like a full size one. The pork egg roll was golden/crispy brown with not much pork in it, more like specs of pork and not much flavor so super average at best. The chicken fried rice is just that, a few scraps of chicken and rice only, nothing else and in desperate need of soy sauce for flavor. The garlic beef also had no big garlic flavor to it and if I didn't better I would have guessed beef and vegetables if I was blind folded. All the food was cooked to order hot and the vegetables were cooked nice with some crunch left in them thank you. I have eaten at a lot of Asian restaurants and I'm scratching my head at the 4 stars here because I was under impressed with my lunch today. Meh this is a pretty standard Chinese joint. It definitely is in an odd location. The food itself seemed to be made fresh to order, which I definitely appreciated. We ordered pork lo mien, general tso chicken, egg rolls and the boneless spare rib combo platter. The fried rice and lo mien were run of the mill. Lacking some in flavor. The boneless spare ribs weren't tender at all, which is what I look for. However the sauce was on point, so I enjoyed it none-the-less. The egg rolls and GT chicken were probably my favorite part of the meal. I have nothing else to compare this place to in the MKE area, so I don't know how it's rated next to other places. But prices were on point as well, so I'd definitely be willing to try this place again. My gf and I only ever order Chinese food once in a blue moon when we're craving really fatty food, so it won't be for a while. Place was clean and the lady was super friendly. I like this place. Its conveniently close to me and they are quick and family operated friendly people. I know the inside isn't the greatest to look at but most come for takeout. I had the sweet and sour shrimp I mean geez these shrimp in the coating they are huge!! You get 5 with a container of sweet and sour sauce and either white rice or fried rice this is one of many lunch specials and they have combinations also. I get the house mei fun noodles or the egg foo young I switch things up sometimes and for what I've had has been good. I don't get all the reviews with three stars that use the word, meh. First off this place is better than, meh. Second, meh, is in the definition of a two star review. To be clear, this place is better than a two star Americanized Chinese take out joint. It's really A-OK and maybe your best choice on this side of the Milwaukee area. Location is excellent, right off of I-94 College exit, west. In a strip mall with easy parking, they have three dedicated spots right in front of the door. It's very clean and bright. No one seems to sit and eat here so I find it a peaceful place to eat lunch by myself. The various lunch combinations are reasonable, under $10 and the white rice is always fresh. I like the egg foo yung but any of the Chinese-American common dishes are pretty good. Like all of the take out Chinese American joints, this one packages in a lot of wasteful polystyrene and plastic with too many of those deadly condiment packages, plastic straws. Unlike the other take-out Chinese American joints, they always get my order right. Getting back to the use of the word, meh, in reviews. It's an expression that has two meanings and in the context of a restaurant evaluation I suppose it's the use of the word that means mediocrity or not impressive. Etymologically, this is the earlier use of the word first found in print in the 1990s, so maybe a Gen X word. The more common 21st century use of the word relates a sense of indifference, expressing that the writer or speaker just doesn't really care. Maybe a more Millennial use of, meh. There are definitely restaurants that are both underwhelming and the owners don't seem to care, those are the restaurants that deserve two stars, right? Or maybe you are thinking, "Meh, this guy writes too much." Well in that case, I deserve a two star review. read more

A friend recently recommended China House to me knowing my love of Chinese food (ironically we were out at a different Chinese restaurant when he made the recommendation). He extolled it as the best Chinese he has had, now those are words that will make my ears prick up. I think we all have a favorite Chinese joint and much to my dismay mine is 456 miles away (yes, I google-mapped it). Flying solo tonight and having what can only be described as a day from Hades I lacked neither the resolve to cook a healthy homemade meal, especially when all I really had the energy to do was stir a gin and tonic. I have a small problem when I'm allowed to go to a Chinese restaurant alone, I over order like bloody crazy. Tonight I walked out with beef and broccoli (large serving), a small serving of veggie lo mein and small hot and sour soup. Granted I was thinking ahead that the veggie lo mein would be perfect for lunch and would not be part of dinner. That doesn't mean I didn't sneak a few bites of it, and it was delicious. I asked for it to be spicy and it was. No sissy-mid-western spice either, this was full bodied heat and had lots of veggies. The hot and sour soup was great too, tons of mushrooms and shoots and whatever other mysterious magical vegitational things they put in hot and sour soup. It came with it's own little baggie of crispy won ton bits for a nice little crunchy kick. My only minor complaint was that I asked for the beef and broccoli to be spicy and it was decidedly not. Especially compared to the lo mein. Still, the broccoli was perfectly cooked and the beef tender, and the portion huge. after the soup I was barely able to eat 1/3 of my beef and broccoli. Leftovers are always good to have though. I will certainly be back to sample more of their food, I should of ordered some egg rolls- I consider them to be a key component of a Chinese food feast. read more

First time customer tonight... My husband and I walked in to place an order to go. We ordered pork egg foo young, a quart of egg drop soup, and shrimp mei fun. Best egg foo young we've had in a long time. There were huge chunks of tender pork (a lot too) and they separated the patties from the gravy which is awesome (love that)! The egg drop soup was delicious and the shrimp mei fun was fantastic, lots of shrimp and had great flavor. The food was done super quick and they were friendly. We are so happy to have tried China House tonight, I'm pretty sure we will be regular customers from now on. read more

Great food! Our first try at China House since we moved to Greenfield. Good Chinese is about the sauces. Most use the same gloppy and thick brown sauce on everything...not at China House. Every sauce was light and delicate and varied with each dish. The Egg Fu Yung was incredible. Light, fluffy, and not a lick of greasiness...next time I'm getting two orders. The shrimp with lobster sauce (using white sauce the way it should be) was delightful with lots of big fat shrimp. The Hunan Chicken was a huge portion with the extra heat I asked for. Again, everything was light and tasty. Didn't feel like I needed a nap afterwards. This is our new number 1 choice for good Chinese. Give them your business during these rough times. This is my first time here and I'm pretty impressed with the food. I wasn't sure what to expect since the location was in an odd place and the interior lacks in creativity. What I didn't like is that you have to order at the front desk before you can go sit down. Otherwise, the food is great. The place is located in a strip mall, and upon entering it isn't impressive. It has a larger eat-in area than most takeout Chinese places I've seen, but this is definitely a takeout joint. For $9 I got chicken snow pea w/fried rice and an egg roll. I agree with other reviews that portions may be a bit smaller than other places, however the quality is there. Egg roll had flavor, meal contained fresh vegetables and not overcooked. Notable is the large pieces of white meat chicken which is rare for takeout. 100% DO NOT recommend. I placed a delivery order for myself and a coworker I ordered the chicken and broccoli combo plate that comes with rice and and egg roll. The lady on the phone was in such a hurry to get me off the phone she wrote me down as a lunch combo that comes with rice and a soda(Pepsi) instead. I was also charged for the wrong food. As I am at work and can not leave I called just to let them know of the mistake, not looking to make them drive all the way back for an egg roll. After informing them where they went wrong, a lady proceeded to tell me that they had put me down as a lunch combo. I told them I understood that mistake but if I had never told them what kind of soda I wanted why would they just assume Pepsi?( I do not drink any soda) At this point they hung up on me. Hot Sour Soup tasted like vinegar. The Steamed Dumplings had a bad after taste and the Lobster in Shrimp Sauce was like water.

I usually go to the Cousin Subs next door but figured to try this instead since I hear good things. My first impression was it's a small place, doesn't have the feel for a dine in setting, and the service was rushed. I ordered a special not knowing the special was over and was told that the special ended after ny payment was made so i had to buy a can of soda for a dollar which to me is high for a can of soda. The food was prepared fresh and quick tho, and for the price it was good. I know there are other places where you can get more for the same price and better quality but for it's location and staff it's pretty good. I received better service being served the food from the owner than when i was placing an order. All in all, it's a decent place to dine a cheap price. read more

Also, super close to the airport hotels. Added 7/10/16 - So eager to go back and get take out again - however, they need to update their hours on yelp :-( They don't open up on Sunday until 3 p.m., not 11. I reeeaaally want to like China House. It's just SO convenient. And cheap! Since I seem to be starting out with the pros, I'll continue: they are located in a nice [divey] little strip mall on the corner of 27th and College Ave; they deliver; the prepare a fast take-out order; they give you large quantities; the employees are cordial. Cons: two out of two times I've ordered from here something has been wrong with my order. Also, they don't have the option of preparing an entrée with white meat chicken. Sadface. In all honesty I will still probably come back, purely out of convenience. And I like to support a local business. And I'm an optimist. I'll prepare myself to be wowed upon return! I had sweet and sour chicken delivered to my house for dinner today, along with thai iced tea. Yum! I recommend both!

We went around 2 pm on a Saturday and got a couple items off their lunch special. Sweet and sour pork, orange chicken, chicken lomein and egg drop soup. Everything was made fresh and came out nice and hot. This place looks like it gets a lot of carry out orders but there is a small area to dine in. The food taste good. Our rice didn't have any vegetables or look like other fried rice I'm used to eating but it was surprisingly good. Only down side is they only have canned beverages and water bottles. So no refills on drinks. Not a deal breaker. I would definitely try this place out again to try other items on their menu and when ever I'm in the area. read more

We were initially heading to another place, which ended up being closed, when I found China House through Yelp and figured we'd try it out. The place is small, but there is some seating. We ordered to eat in but had so much food we had to take some with us. It's not a sit down type of place really and so the food is served in to-go containers and you need but a lid to pack it up to go. We had steamed dumpling for an app which were quite tasty (most likely frozen). The menu is a standard list of Chinese dishes. We had General Tso's Chicken and Mongolian Beef, both were prepared fresh and served hot along with our rice. The dishes are tasty and well seasoned and definitely worth the price. Again, it's basically Chinese fast food and mostly designed for take out, but don't let its strip mall location fool you, the food is quite good. read more

Very disappointed. Read yelp reviews and thought it was going to be great. Wow so not great at all. Chicken fried rice was a joke!!! A couple of pieces of white boiled chicken pieces and rice. That's it!! Nothing else in it , no veggies or flavor. Pork egg rolls barely any pork! ! Portion sizes of the combination platters laughable! ! Crab ragoons only up side to this disaster of a meal.
