I was so hungry and didn't want to succumb to all the fast food on Miller Parkway. Always knew about Cheng Wong, but never ate here. At 2 pm, it was bustling but service friendly. Only two tables in a small storefront. The menu is huge with all my favorites. My Chinese food test is Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. I'm usually disappointed. Not here! My $11.07 combo lunch had 6 huge shrimp bathed in a tasty sauce. It wasn't authentic - but it was very tasty and I enjoyed it. The pork fried rice was killer! Could taste the wok fire in the pork. Egg roll - again I'm picky - was flavorful and delicious. I worked for a Chinese family restaurant while I was in high school and college, and my bar is always the food we ate as a "family" after service. Cheng Wong comes close. In a city filled with mediocre to bad Chinese restaurants, this is a wonderful find! I ate in the restaurant, enjoying hearing Chinese language and the bustle. I sent my husband to go pick me up one of the special combos, I got pork egg, foo young with pork fried rice and an egg roll and then ordered a side of crab Rangoon. Cheng Wong is going to be my new go to for Chinese food. I used to go to a different place in West Allis, but they appeared to be under new management and the food isn't the same. Cheng Wong is my local go-to Chinese restaurant. They have never disappointed. The food is freshly prepared so it is hot and tasty. My favorites are the Hunan Beef, Kung Pow Chicken, Veggie Lo Mien and their fried Dumplings. They are friendly and super quick. Definitely recommend. Decided to check out a different Chinese restaurant. It is tucked away in a strip mall. It is pretty much set up for takeout only. There are only three or so tables and they are all pushed against the side wall. They have the kitchen blocked off with plexiglass. There is a slot for putting cash or credit card. Then there is a pass through window for putting your order in when it is finished. Everything is no contact transaction. The space itself is pretty outdated and nothing special. I didn't see any menus available, so I just ordered Kung Pao chicken from the picture menu overhead. My meal was above average and had a decent level of spiciness. I'm new to the Milwaukee area and been trying to find a good Chinese place for awhile here and haven't been able to find one. Every place I've tried has been not good or just okay. But Cheng Wong is literally the best Chinese restaurant I've been to in my life!!! The crab ragoons are sooo good! The sweet and sour sauce and general tsos sauce is really good too! A really nice neighborhood Chinese restaurant near Miller Park. We happened upon this place coming back from a trip, tired and hungry. One thing I really appreciated, is that they offer a combo meal with an eggroll and rice, even at dinner time. They also have a very substantial menu. I had the Kung Pao chicken combo. She had the shrimp and snow peas combo. And, out of curiosity, we tried the vegetarian eggrolls too. I really liked the pork eggrolls that came with the meal. It's often hard to find good role eggrolls these days. They are usually too greasy. But these were not. The vegetarian eggrolls were OK, but nothing special. The Kung Pow chicken was very different from other Chinese restaurants in that the chicken pieces were fried. Also, it did not have a lot of hot peppers. It was quite good though. Who doesn't like fried chicken! The shrimp and snow peas dish was a little bit bland, but the shrimp were very good. Often times the quality of shrimp at Chinese restaurants is not too good. But these were really good quality shrimp. The people that run it are a very nice family and the prices are very reasonable. Can't wait to come back... read more

If Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris had a Szechuan throwdown of the most epic culinary proportions the end result would be Cheng Wong. I'd never heard of this place until last night when I was sifting through what seemed like endless bad Milwaukee Chinese food reviews online. I have grown accustomed to accept bad Chinese food in this city as the upper Midwest isn't particularly well know for it's Chinese cuisine. Hallelujah for Cheng Wong!! Hands down the best Chinese I've had in Milwaukee! Lightning fast service and maybe the most polite cook I've ever met at a Chinese restaurant. They should change their name to "Fresh Fast Now Chinese" as it was ready in barely 10 minutes and man they do not skimp on the food. Phenomenal egg rolls, best sesame chicken I've ever had and amazing Chow Mei Fun!! They'll even special order things to your specific taste. Only negative I can say is that there's no delivery however this place is worth the drive. This is probably a plus as I'd be 300lbs if they did deliver. read more

By far one of the best Chinese take out places in Milwaukee! I've being going here for a couple years and you won't eat Chinese food this good unless you go to Chicago. I recommend going for lunch because the lunch special are an awesome deal. The portions are big and lunch specials are under $7. Just came here last night and decided to eat inside. Not really set up as a restaurant more as just a carry out joint. They have table sitting and a TV in the corner by the entrance. The place is clean and the employees are very friendly. We ordered Generals Tsos Chicken, shrimp lo mein and crab ragoons. The chicken is unbelievably great! It was crunchy on the outside, soft in the inside and the sauce was spectacular! The shrimp lo mein was full of flavor and you can taste they use uncooked fresh shrimp. I hate going places and eating frozen precooked shrimp that lack flavor. The crab ragoons are also made fresh to order and are some of the best you will eat. My wife and I enjoy coming here to eat authentic Chinese food. Everything is fresh and made to order. Great priced! I have been coming here for years, and it's my go to since it's close to my home. I like the friendly service and the sincerity of the staff. I have ordered catering as well which was very affordable! We enjoy the General Tso, Shrimp Lo mein is a favorite, and orange chicken with fried rice instead of the white. They have a lunch hot to go buffet, as well but I'm not sure if it's open anymore due to Covid. I do highly recommend this place. read more

Had them for the first time today and I can see why they have good reviews! We had their lunch special chicken cashew and chicken lo mein to test the waters and both were very tasty and I like how the chicken is lightly fried and crispy in the cashew chicken. The lo mein was a little light on the chicken compared to other places but still good. We each tried a different egg roll with our specials (one chicken and one pork) and both were delicious. The odd thing was I got charged extra to make it a chicken egg roll (think it was 80 something cents), even though they're the same price individually on the menu, so that didn't make sense, and he chicken egg roll was also considerably bigger than the pork one. All that being said, it was still good and I'll definitely come back if I'm in the area. Reasons for loss of 1 star: No delivery, stingy with the chicken on the lo mein, egg roll upcharge that doesn't make sense. read more

Chicken egg rolls were more like cabbage rolls with a piece of chicken. The house fried rice was greasy without much flavor. The pork fried rice was okay. The workers child was on a loud speaker phone call as we were trying to order. Food did not come out together. We will not be returning. read more

I usually try to go to places with many reviews; this place didn't have a ton of reviews, but they were all great. We ventured out and tried something new and were completely happy. The food was great and the prices were totally reasonable. I had recently started to venture away from Chinese food b/c it always felt super junky/fatty with odd rubbery things when you eat... not quite knowing what you were really eating. I could tell the food I was getting at other places was pretty gross; I wasn't doing Panda Express or anything that gross, but a lot of No.1 Chinese and others comparable. Just junky feeling. This place has restored my faith in Chinese food; the food tasted healthier and more whole. You didn't have surprises in the food and it wasn't glopped down with some sauce that you envisioned being poured out of a giant can. It felt like it was made more fresh and with better care and quality. I won't say this is the best chinese food ever; I'm sure if I wanted to spend a lot more I could find more authentic type, but since we're feeding a family of five and wanted the bill to be under $100, this place was great. The grab ragoons were crunchy, the moo goo gai pan was fresh tasting and the other entrees were great too. We are happy to have a new place to go to for our dinners when we are craving Chinese. This is going to be our new stomping ground. Close enough to home, good pricing, fast service, clean restaurant... it's a no brainer for us to come back. read more

Really good food. Reasonable proves. Place is not very fancy but that's not a big concern. It's in a strip mall by Cermak. A bit chilly in winter when the door opens. Also, plastic forks and knives are hard to cut with, and sauces are mostly in packets. No fresh sauce for egg rolls; you must use a packet. There was a wheeled cart with a tipped over (dirty) bucket on it sitting by the front door. A bit unappetizing. Didn't visit the bathrooms. Overall the food was the star here. read more

I like to grab lunch and go to cermak fresh on the weekend. I started looking for a lunch spot and after a while I thought why not here I have been looking at it for a year and a half now. I'm glad I did, this is one of the better upper end Chinese restaurants. The food was fresh tasting and piping hot. The place looked clean and casual/modern, not typical asian cheese over the top with all the crap every where. The woman in the picture took my order and cooked the food. The place had one table waiting for food, packer game on. The woman in the kitchen was just throwing down with the cooking. I got the # s27 General tso's chicken combo with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was one those less than half a real egg roll which was disappointing but it was better than most I have had in the Milwaukee area, pretty good. Most places the fried rice is just tasteless filler but it's flavorful with bits of pork and peas. I will actually eat all the rice and not throw it away. I know would you just tell us about the chicken finally. The chicken was excellent. It was crunchy on the out side and soft and juicy on the inside to my surprise. Lot of times its dry on the inside from other places. The chicken was not hot to the tongue I thought but then my nose started to run. I love hot food and this is probably hot for most people. Such a bad experience. Ordered sweet and sour chicken. First they messed up the order so I had to drive back, then when I was about to eat it I noticed some weird pieces of breaded chicken that seemed too big so I cut it in half and it turns out its not chicken its actually shrimp :/ so i became i little suspicious about it and decided to cut in half the other pieces of "breaded chicken" turns out there was pork in it too . First I call them to put a order in and they hang up on me I didn't want to call back but I did it anyway I put an order in for about 4 combos with rice and some other stuff they do t tell me a time to come or a total so I go there in about 20 min just to find out they didn't even make my food and was telling me I didn't put a order in with them so I showed them my phone with a call to there number and the lady there don't say nothing I ask her y she did t make my order and she still says nothing and just asked me what I want to order will definitely never be back and will never recommend anyone to go there with how rude they were and the food is not even that good hopefully I save some people from wasting there time trying to order from here read more
