Since moving to the Heights I've been searching for my go-to Chinese. Great Taste is 1/2 of that. I prefer certain things from here and certain from China Town farther down North Ave. thanks be gotta say that the dumplings at Great Taste are what I've been searching for. Disgusting, i would not feed that food to my dog!. i ordered a delivery. they told 30 mins. 90 mins later i was calling asking where my order was. owner was rude, unfriendly, barley spoke English and had an attitude when i said i no longer wanted to wait and i demanded a refund. she pretty much laughed and said no. so i said ok. just then the driver finally shows up. i take the food n tell her i should stil;l get the refund for the trouble and bc it was probably going to be cold at this point. again she laughed so i just hung up. its business owners like this that give small business owners like me a bad name. if you do not know how to treat your customers then you should not be in business. of course my food was ice cold, they put way to much sauce and it was spilling everywhere. it was gross and unappealing. i ordered shrimp in lobster sauce and got three shrimp. this place is horrible and should be closed down by the health inspector. Nothing spectacular, but definitely better than your average chinese take-out restaurant. I would definitely take out though as the dining room is a bit dingy. I ordered sesame chicken, chicken lo-mein and crab rangoon. The value was great--all were very large portions and they threw in two free egg rolls as well. For the love of all that is good and holy, do NOT try this place. We live relatively close, and they deliver. So, we thought, why not try it? And, truthfully, the delivery was fast. But, really, how do you screw up egg rolls? I mean, I've eaten from many divey Chinese restaurants, and they all had passable egg rolls. Some shredded vegetables, rolled in a wrap and fried. Yes? But I could not finish mine. None of us could. The moo shu was okay. But our other two dishes were just wretched. And I mean wretched. I am a lover of Asian food, esp Chinese. In the Tosa area near me, there are 5 Chinese restaurants - this place has the best food. I've only had the chicken, beef, and tofu dishes (no pork) but all have been good. The people there seem really eager to please. My only complaint is the food is never really spicy. Parking in front. Best Chinese take out it the area... and reasonably priced! The family who owns the restaurant is very nice & friendly and the food is always freshly made & yummy. I really like ordering their dinner plate specials which are generously portioned and you can choose from either an egg roll or 2 of their wonderful breaded, fried chicken strips with it. They also offer similar lunch plates until 3 pm minus the add on egg roll or chicken strips. First and last time I will order food from this restaurant. I ordered the house fried rice, shrimp broccol, sesame chicken and 2 egg roll. The fried rice was ok but had dark meat chicken and had a hardened clump/ of I guess it was fat at the bottom of the box. The sesame chicken seemed to be frozen dark meat breaded chicken with a thinner sauce than I have seen before. The texture of the meat was weird. The flavor of the shrimp broccoli was in eatable and even the egg rolls had an odd not fresh taste. I would not recommend is an understatement. read more

Great Taste? More like Okay Taste. I got take-out from this restaurant and had the sesame chicken, chicken with broccoli, and crab rangoons. The sesame chicken definitely had an undertone of duck flavor and since I'm not a fan of duck, the sesame chicken wasn't quite as good. The chicken with broccoli was covered in a white, creamy sauce that I wasn't accustomed having with this dish and would have preferred the sauce left out of the entree. Crab rangoons are one of my favorite sides to order and these ones were just okay. It is hard to take something that is mostly cream cheese and fried dough and make it taste bad! Egg drop soup was free with the order but it tasted like hot salt water (not as good as hot ham water for any Arrested Development viewers out there). With the other selections for chinese food in the milwaukee area, I don't think I am going back to Great Taste anytime soon. read more

Horrible service. I called to ensure that they delivered to Froedtert and the lady ensured this was the case and the driver called me when he got there...demanding that I come downstairs to a circle to retrieve food because he had other orders that needed to be delivered. I explained that the order was for my Mom, who is a Patient and that it can be dropped off at the Security Desk because the lobby is closed. He refused, argued and ultimately hung up the phone after stating that I was wasting his time. I've been a Customer for years before moving away and always ordered for my Mom. NEVER AGAIN. read more

One star is too much for this "restaurant". The fried wontons have less than a gram of cheese and are flat, cheap deep fried wonton shells. The Szechuan chicken I got was largely half sautéed onions with about a quarter of a chicken breast for the whole meal. Horrible experience. Please font eat here. It's a small place-- meant for more takeout than dine-in. Grabbed some food to-go. My husband thought his dish was okay (Great Taste Spicy Steak) but mine (General Tso's Chicken) was super dry and hard to chew. Fried rice was odd tasting and hot & sour soup smelled funky as well. Wife and I have had a lot of Chinese Food around Milwaukee because we've moved a lot. By Far !!! Best Food we've had....The Steamed Dumplings were OUTSTANDING !! Big and firm and not Cheap on the Filling. My Beef Lo Mein was not just noodles and tiny bit of meat, but large noodles, nice pieces of Beef AND Veggies, which you hardly ever get from other restaurants. PLUS.....They threw in 10 sugar Doughnuts as a courtesy. Also, they told us on the phone 45 minutes, food was at our door in 18, Shocked us. Had food delivered and the sweet and sour pork - a quart of it - had the sauce already on top of it! You can't deliver fried pork with sauce on top because it makes it soggy! Also, there was very little sauce, and the pork itself was very tough! Also, the shrimp fried rice had tina little salad shrimp. The hot and sour soup and Kung pow chicken also was barely edible! The food at Great Taste is pretty darn great if you are craving chinese food. I appreciate the freshness and the crispyness of the vegetables. The prices are more than fair. There is one young-ish gentleman always working the counter when I or my husband stop there. He is fun to chat with and remembers what we typically order. The decor is pretty typical chinese restaurant that does most of their business by carry-out. There are eight small round tables but wouldn't be a great place to bring a group. There is a golden waving kitty on the counter, if that is a must-have for you. :-) read more

Great Taste is not its name! not recommended! Don't go here! Tired interior, cleaned but residual grime. After having ordered I discovered LARGE black ants crawling around the floor and had to move so they didn't climb up my leg. the rice seemed old and over cooked. The food ALMOST has flavor, it tastes watered down and left a weird aftertaste. We ordered one shrimp and pork egg roll, it had too much powdered uncooked seasoning inside and one or two tiny chopped pieces of shrimp although it was a solidly packed dense egg roll it was mostly cabbage, I paid extra for the meat version and it was barely there. The sweet and sour was odd, I thought it had promise when it wasn't that neon orange color, but sadly it just tasted off. Beef and broccoli left us wanting. I will not be keeping the treasured Chinese left overs as usual. Also although service was pretty typical time wise, after ordering, I was there for what seemed like forever before someone even said hi. Price point was more than what we pay at our typical place. Ok. I like local. I go out of my way to endorse and support local. This place makes it hard to do so. If you look, you will see there are two separate locations listed, one with North Ave, one with North Avenue. One is trying to hide the other. Grabbed this as a backup for a failed home meal. It was in the area. Ordered the most basic of Americanized Chinese food: sweet and sour pork. Result was pre-sauced, huge chunks of gray meat, two small slices of green pepper and a couple chunks of canned pineapple. The breading was thicker than the pork itself. I stop eating there because of past experiences but my friend was at my house wanted Chinese so I recommended them due to the fact, they deliver. The food was good so I wanted some today shrimp egg foo young and shrimp fried rice. I wanted my gravy on the side and they want to charge me for the container to put it in. What! When I first tried Great Taste out, I went with my (American) Chinese go-to of General Tso's and wasn't impressed. It wasn't bad, but I've had better. Since, I've tried new things and been much more happy. My three favorites are Singapore Noodles Chow Fein, Great Taste's Spicy Steak and Hot Braised Pork. Today, I tried Hunan Shrimp and was displeased how much green pepper there was. It was prepared well, as the veggie have been whenever I've ordered here - crisp, fresh and flavorful - and the fried food I get has always been nice and crispy. Great Taste has more hits than misses and I'd recommend it over No. 1 down the block to be sure, but it's also nothing I rave about to friends. read more

Called Great Taste for a Friday Fall night in delivery. Ordered the Mongolian Beef, General Tso Chicken, Veggie LoMein Noodles, and Pork Egg rolls. The Entrees came with white rice, and was not able to subsitute for Fried Rice. They did throw in either free sugar doughnuts or soup since our order was over $35, opted for the doughnuts (6) which was probably the best thing we got. The General Tso Chicken was also good. The pork egg rolls and Mongolian beef were gross. The eggroll had huge hardened chunks of meat that you could not bite into. All off the sauce had spilled out of the Mongolian beef, which was actually more like Mongolian onions with a little beef. Big portions, and despite saying 30-40 minutes for delivery it was here in 20. I'm going to try somewhere else next time, this can't be the best Chinese takeout in tosa. read more

All the food was very good and reasonably priced. Preparation was prompt which helped the delivery to be ahead of schedule.
