Breading used on everything, particularly the egg rolls. was too thick. Items were clearly prepared in advance and simply heated, leaving the cashews and peapods limp and soggy. The chicken was dry and the heavy breading made most of the pieces inevitable without cutting most of the edges off. In fairness, the flavors of the main dishes were good, but the general condition of the main courses resulted in our tossing the leftovers. read more

Egg rolls are my favorite item to order from Asian restaurants and unfortunately I've never been impressed by the one Hung Hao sells, so I've only ordered from Hung Hao a handful of times over the nine years I've lived in Germantown. It's been a while since I've tried it and I've never left a review, so I took another chance and ordered the Appetizer Combination For One (a pork and shrimp egg roll, one sweet and sour shrimp, one sweet and sour chicken, a crab rangoon, and marinated beef on a stick). All of the items, except the marinated beef on a stick, are fried and the breading retains more grease than I'd prefer. The sweet and sour shrimp doesn't have much going for it flavor wise outside of the greasy breading, but the sweet and sour chicken does with seemingly a little brine to the chicken. The crab rangoon is decent sized, but the mixture inside is more runny than firm and lacking on the (imitation) crab. The egg roll, which contains both pork and shrimp, is heavily coated in the same greasy breading as the sweet and sour shrimp/chicken. As I've experienced in the past, the inside has a slight mushy texture and the flavor has a grocery store freezer section quality. It may be well portioned, but I'd rather have quality over quantity in my egg rolls and their doesn't cut it. The star of the appetizer combination was the marinated beef on a stick. With three of the other four items being disappointing (the sweet and sour chicken was ok), I was glad to have at least one item be worth my time and money. In a pinch I'd get the marinated beef on a stick again, but I'd rather go elsewhere for entire meals that I enjoy more than just one item in the appetizer section. read more

For example: * Egg foo young -- Just OK. It's hard to mess up on egg foo young, and Hung Hao's is acceptable. Not flavorful, not disgusting. Just OK, and boring. But again, most egg foo young is harmless and unexciting. * Shrimp/pork egg roll. Not disgusting, but unappetizing. Hong Anh Palace in Mequon has scrumptious egg rolls. These never heard of scrumptious, much less being able to aspire to it. * Chicken fried rice. Edible. Chicken dried out . . . the kind of stuff you want to finish eating just so your money wasn't totally wasted, and because, well, you need the protein. * Beef lo mein. Meh. Totally flavorless. Tried to order online. The web based ordering was turned off, stating they were closed even though the hours on the website had them open for another hour and a half. I then drove to the restaurant to place my order and they refused me in person, saying they had too many orders already. It was 40 minutes yet before closing. This place has been a bookmark for awhile now and I finally stopped over for lunch, still trying to support local restaurants as much as I can. I was told that I have to try the egg rolls because they are pretty good and that's why I have it bookmarked so I ordered the egg rolls and the triple flower beef for takeout, you can pay in person during the virus so no giving your credit card to a stranger over the phone. The egg roll is shrimp and pork and they were way above average and really good with a great crispy shell and the hint of peanut sauce, I wish they had a bigger peanut flavor. If this place was closer it would be my go to egg roll place because I like that peanut flavor. The triple flower beef was also tasty with tender flank steak, broccoli, pea pods, carrots and straw mushrooms in chefs sauce. The veggies were cooked perfect with some crunch left in them and the flank steak was just right and not skimpy like some places. read more

Ordered General Tso and Shrimp Lo Mein. Both did not taste like normal. The Lo Mein was horrible. They used the wrong noodles and cooked it with way too much oil, that's all I could taste. The General Tso was not even crispy at all. First and last time ordering from here. No picture needed as you should not even consider this place. read more

We have been ordering out from this restaurant for many years. For the most part, the food has been really good. There have been a couple of times that we had ordered a dish with NO spice and it has been made medium-spicy. I understand that it can get busy and mistakes are made, therefore I am following up with this review after my daughter, Lexi Pfalzgraf, painted my husband and I as horrible people in her recent review. They have the best Schezwan Chicken in Wisconsin, just the right amount of heat and absolutely scrumptious. Their Black Pepper Steak is also delicious and a goto favorite. I used to love their eat in restaurant but since Covid they're take out only. Still worth the trip especially if you can accep the take out only policy. read more

Nice little family place located next to a Sendik's in a Germantown strip mall. There's only eight tables which I think is suitable because they seem to do more take out than dine in. The small dining area is nicely decorated and accommodating. I really enjoyed the coating used on the egg rolls. The dumplings was flavorful as was our pork lo mein & garlic chicken entrees. Ample portion sizes with more than we could finish. The restaurant is family run and they were very attentive throughout. One of my absolute favs for Chinese takeout! For anyone who enjoys spicy food, you'll understand the anguish of ordering everything "extra hot" only to find out they made you something bland with little to no heat...this has never been the case at Hung Hao. The first time I called in an order to this place, I very much emphasized that I wanted the Kung Pao Chicken as hot as they can make it. Per usual, the woman taking my order assured me it would be very spicy(I only believe this to be true 50% of the time at most Chinese places). Anyway...pick up my food 10 minutes later and once at home I take my first bites and...HOLY SMOKES...immediately grab for the rice(usually prefer these dishes plain), but the heat was way more than I could handle! Fantastic! Hung Hao- 1 Amy-0...I finally met my match as far as spicy foods go! LOVE IT! Now the lunch buffet: I work pretty close to here so my coworkers and I are always on the hunt for a good buffet. This is not your traditional Chinese buffet with everything under the sun..you know the type I'm talking about, when you don't really care for quality, but are more just looking to stuff your face. Hung Hao's lunch consists of no more than 4 to 5 dishes, but they are made well. I myself was not really a fan, mainly because I want more than just chicken and broccoli or pork fried rice with one type of egg roll. My coworkers are converts though and say it is the best quality for an all-you-can-eat meal. So if you're not fussy I'd highly recommend just because it is quick and easy enough. read more

I'm about to rip my hair out while writing this as, aside from the Chinese guy sitting behind me, I'm the only person dining in this small but comfortable room. Asian music quietly serenades me through the speakers, sadly not drowning out the a-hole behind me loudly slurping and relentlessly smacking his damn lips with EVERY BITE; I've heard cows chew with more civility. I'm trying my best to focus on the fact the guy at the front taking takeout orders just told someone $36.24 and I wanted to yell, "36-24-36 haha, only if she's 5'3" He's gone at last! (And made the rest of the meal incredibly relaxing!) I can quietly enjoy my moderately spicy Szechuan Chicken, white rice, and overload of crab Rangoon in peace. The Szechuan Chicken was possibly the best I've had! Despite the large amount of carry-out orders, the food was served rather quickly, hot, and tasting nice and fresh to boot. Service was good, and made me feel good, too. It's been a while since I was carded for a beer but she asked for my license, saw my birth date, looked at me and said, wow you look young. I'll take it; it's better than the alternative. first and last time first off pricy then when I got home i ordered hong sue shrimp the container was full but upon taking out the breaded shrimp the vetoables were about 2 inches in the bottom of the container which wasn't very much although the container was somewhat full i then started eating one of the breaded shrimp about 2 inches in diameter and about an inch thick i thought wow these are big shrimp boy was i in for some disappointment the breading was 90% and 10% the shrimp was cut in half it was tough and sort of rubbery sort of like a old gummy worm consistency . the vegetables were ok but when I tooK all the extra breading off the shrimp it wasn't very much . thank god I ordered some egg rolls oh lets go to the egg rolls it looked like they put them in a deep fryer that was way too hot or they forgot to get them out on time and the outside was crusty and bubbly any longer and they would have been burnt the taste was flavorless rice portion was small i rated a one star but i would have rated lower read more

My husband and I carry out from Hung Hao about once a month or so and there's reason for it - totally delicious Cantonese-style Chinese food. It is the best! We almost almost always get the Cashew Chicken (minus water chestnuts) and add chow mein noodles and it is always good! The curry vegetables are amazing as well. But last night I ordered the Szechuan shrimp and I have found my new favorite meal ever, which is why I felt compelled to post a review. It is so good with perfect heat and texture. Pricey for what it is. $50 gets you two entrees and two appetizers for takeout, but if you want fried rice instead of white, they make you order it separate. Fine by me, but if you're going to charge me, at least give me the white rice that I paid for. For the good news 1st....the food is consistent and the quality is excellent. Now for the BAD... Attitude Sucks, the owners kid sits behind the register every lunch shift and has a personality of a soggy won ton. The lunch hour waitress is a complete pill and after ordering their egg roll with lunch she delivers a shrimp eggrolls I said I'm allergic to shrimp she said you shouldn't have ordered it. That was the last straw, for a place that on merits of food gets a 5 Star rating. The buffet has a standard veg. Eggroll so without a customer knowing why would they serve Shrimp. I've been a customer for 15yr. But no longer, even after discussing it with the owners kid he made it out to be my problem. That's the thanks for being a loyal customer and supporting a family run business. To avoid the attitude I suggest take out only if you decide to stop in.
