I have always loved Moy's egg rolls because of the hint of peanut butter in them. We visited recently and had to try them for old-time's sake. The egg rolls seemed slightly smaller, had the same inside goodness, but the outside wrapper seemed "tougher." Times change, so too did Moy's egg roll wrappers... Ordered again after a one year hiatus about 1 month ago and food was great. Ordered fried rice, beef and broccoli and orange chicken. Orange chicken was chunks of white chicken, little breading and was awesome. Beef & broccoli, beef was tender was really good. Ordered the exact same things two weeks later and was garbage. Orange chicken was that dark meat with thick breading, can barely tell there is chicken in there. Beef was very chewy. Moy's is very inconsistent with how they prepare their food. The food was excellent. I got the Kung Pao chicken and it was delicious - there was a nice heat but it didn't overpower the flavor at all. The service was exceptional. Our waitress (Carley?) was not the most experienced or polished server I have ever had, but her attentiveness and genuine desire to provide excellent service far overshadowed any "shortcomings". She was wonderful and I hope others recognize her for that as well! The atmosphere is nothing spectacular, but there is nothing wrong with it either. There are live plants and enough Chinese decor that you would know you were in a Chinese restaurant. We did not order it this time, but their appetizer platter is a wonderful meal for two in and of itself. We will definitely be back, and soon! read more

I went here yesterday with my gf and daughter. first off, the service was excellent. couldn't of been better. 2nd the presentation of food was great. 3rd, the food was delicious. My husband took me here 28 years ago when we first started dating. We have long since moved away but come here every time we are in the area. Driving 684 miles in anticipation of a great meal, we were not disappointed. We always order the same items since we don't eat here often. Hong Sue chicken, egg rolls and soup. The chicken dish is loaded with fresh vegetables in a delicate sauce. The white meat chicken is not greasy and the batter is light. I had chicken rice soup that had enough chicken for a pot of soup, hubby had egg drop and we both loved it. The egg rolls have that peanut butter taste I long for and are crispy and delicious. I was sad when it was over but we left happily with another wonderful memory of Moy's delicious food, excellent service and warm ambiance. Lots of street parking. This place used to be so great. Went there tonight of the first time in years- not good. Would not recommend.

Never coming back again after 20+ years of patronage. Just left Moy's, and while I understand that the sim took over the business and other economic challenges are in play, what happened tonight was the final straw. All through uncooked rice, protein scrimping from entrees, and (exorbitant) price hikes, we were today forced to pay 20% gratuity on our bill. We had a group of 5 people (it's always been 5-8) with the bill split 2-3 for the five. Never had a forced minimum fatuity enforced, even four weeks ago, until today. Furthermore, the way it's presented on the receipt is shady as hell, so that the gratuity line presents as the tax line, and the traditional space for a tip is an ADDITIONAL tip. After some effort of trying to speak to leadership, I was effectively told "if you don't like it, you'll be asked to leave" and enforced tips are applied for groups of five or more, which in and of itself is ridiculous, and second, we didn't have a billed party of five. The manager/owner was rude as hell and we are done with this joke of an establish. Pay your employees a fair wage! read more

When I lived in Chicago there were places that had peanut butter egg rolls, a traditional pork egg roll just with a little peanut butter for a nice taste. I found one place in Brookfield that was pretty good but they closed so my search was back on. Today I Stopped by for lunch after looking at the lunch specials menu only to be disappointed by my server, no lunch specials on the weekends I'm told so I show her their web site which doesn't state no lunch specials on weekends and she refused to give me the anything from that menu and I had to pick something off the menu in front of me, I almost walked out at that point. I ordered the combination appetizer for two for a sampling of various items. The place was nice and clean looking with multiple dining rooms and a bar on the upper level, my dining room had a nice big window over looking the square. While waiting for my order I was brought a plate, before the server set it down I refused it, I said the plate has left over noodles on it, it's a dirty plate and she brought me a clean one, Ray Charles could have seen that the plate was dirty from across the room. That combination appetizer had a nice presentation because it was on a rotating wooden plater with a mini grill fired up in the center. I started with the egg roll and JACK POT it was the the peanut butter kind that I have been searching for and just hit the spot. The Bali-miki was next and very good, it's like a char/teriyaki beef skewers that were tender/juicy with a little pink left in them. The crab Rangoon was next and also very good. The bbq ribs were next and not over cooked with that nice chew that I like, they are not the red Chinese Bbq kind. The Cantonese fried shrimp were next and and my favorite by far with a fresh gulf shrimp taste that surprised me. If their online menu was not miss leading that got me to do the 1-1/2 hour drive and the dirty plate issue, this would have been a solid 4 stars because my food was really good. I'm going to definitely stop back and try some more of the menu and see if I can bring the stars up. read more

Enjoying a nice lunch with my husband at Moys Chinese Restaurant in Elkhorn WI. Very clean and was greeted at the door by staff. We sat by the window and had a nice view of the town. Our meal of Mongolian Beef and Moo Shu Pork could have fed a family. The egg drop soup and egg rolls were so good. I definitely was happy we decided to try a new Chinese Resaurant because it is now my new favorite. Very big and spacious. Very clean and temperature was comfortable. You will enjoy and you will have enough for supper too. It was about $15 per dish but worth it. I also enjoyed looking at the older homes. Cute town read more

I ate at Moys in December 2023 and the service Was excellent. They seated me and were very courteous. When I was ready to order they were right there! The food was only fair. My problem was the bill. They put a convenience charge of 3% for credit card. They never asked if I wanted to pay cash. They also posted outside $5.00 discount on $50.00 on food order. They didn't take it off, and when I asked they said only for take out. Never go there again. read more

Considering the area - you won't find better Chinese food. Friendly bartender made us some tasty specialty drinks in funky glasses while waiting for a table. You can order food at the bar too but we opted to take a table when available. They were busy so service was initially a tad slow, but still decent. Best egg roll I've ever had anywhere, rest of the food was at least good. Old school 1950s style dishes and drinks are the rule here and done true to form. Again, south central Wisconsin doesn't have many ethnic culinary high points so just "good" is fine in my book. Decor is pretty vanilla but the place was spotlessly clean and smelled nice, including the restrooms. Pricing was very reasonable vs. food quality and portion size. The food here is pretty consistent. Very big menu. Egg rolls are great and mustard is incredibly hot but if you care for spicy you can't go wrong here. I've been here several times. Recently I had the House chicken. Breaded chicken with several vegetables. Very good although deep fried chicken was a bit dry. Service is generally ok but I think like many restaurants past COVID they may be understaffed. We had a server that appeared to be overwhelmed and several tables seated after us were served before our group and tables turned over before we were severed. An unusually long wait. Food arrived lukewarm but we didn't send it back. Too hungry to do so. Servers don't help each other and impacts customers negatively. A little team work would help. All in all a good experience at the restaurant. Unfortunately some customers here were a bit over the top calling restaurant and food by derogatory Asian racial terms. I won't repeat here. I hope this isn't common behavior from Elkhorn community. I fully support ownership and appreciate the quality of their restaurant and food. I will return. read more

I was terribly disappointed that the waitress did not explain that you couldn't switch the white rice for Fried Rice. The charge ended up being $10.. extra and there was hardly any chicken in the fried rice. It was so small and thinly cut it was unbelievable for that type of money. When Mr. Moy had the place it was extremely great. I will NEVER go back to Moys again. Plus, there was only one waitress and it was crowded. Had to wait 30 minutes for my food. Sad to see such a great place go down like this...it was also very expensive now since the new owners. And the Internet shows a lunch special...thay DO NOT have that anymore. Never again... after years of loving this place that used to be our regular go to place for Chinese. I called on Christmas eve to be sure it would be open before we drove 30 minutes the next day. Upon entering, a waitress greeted us and asked if we had reservations, I said no, but I had called to be sure they would be open. She seated us at one of many open tables. As we were about to order, the manager burst into the room and asked her if we had a reservation, she said no. He screamed at her and us and told us to leave "We are only serving those with reservations," he yelled. I told him I had called, but was not told reservations were necessary. Now he was shouting even louder for us to leave and at the waitress for seating us. He made it an embarrassing scene disrupting all the diners as we began to quietly leave. A woman, a complete stranger, next to us offered for us to join her and her son at their "reserved" table. His loud rant continued as my guest and I left and had our Christmas anticipations dashed. We have never been so rudely treated and will never return. Perhaps they were short staffed, with many empty tables in both dining areas, but no reason was given by this uncaring. hot-headed and rude manager. Chicken was of good quality. Tso chicken didn't have any spice to it so we requested some chili sauce to add ourselves. Lo Mein we sent back and they took off our bill as it was nothing I would expect for our order. Waitress did admit their lo mein is different than most and if she said that prior to ordering we would have just passed and saved wasting the food. We paid $14 a plate so our expectations were higher overall I would recommend going here. We have enjoyed Moy's for many, many years. However, the last few times we have ordered, we have been so disappointed!! The Beef Broccoli has fatty meat in it, which it never did in the past. And my biggest disappointment, would be the Egg rolls - Everyone knows Moy's has always had the best Egg rolls! Not anymore, in my opinion and I asked a few other people, who agree. They aren't the same! They used to have a hint of sweetness. Now, they taste sour, almost a vinegar-like flavor. I won't be going back anytime soon, if ever. So sad! My friend (ex husband) and I frequented this Chinese restaurant 40 years ago! I was here with my nephew a few years ago and learned it had changed hands. Today we arrived around 1:00 PM for lunch. Surprisely there were not many patrons but it is a gorgeous Thursday so perhaps people were enjoying lunch outside across the street in the town square. Even more surprising was the absence of a lunch menu or specials. We decided to share 2 dishes-the pressed duck and Kong pong which is a mixture of shrimp, BBQ pork and chicken on Chinese vegetables. I had wonton soup. I prefer fried rice to steamed rice but you cannot upgrade-you have to buy a main course serving. Why? The soup was nothing special. I've had the same from my local carry-out. The food was just ok. Be sure to taste it before adding Soy sauce. It's salty enough without it. The biggest disappointment was the cost. Over $60 for just the two of us. We only had a soft drink & iced tea ( no flavored or sweet available). It's a good thing Chinese food reheats well. For $60 I can feed my family of 6 from my local takeout and the food is tastier. Our waitress was ok. Not overly friendly but not rude either. There's other restaurants in the quaint town so I'd try one of those for lunch and eat at Moy's with a group of people on a weekend evening. read more

My wife and I have had trouble finding good Chinese food in the Midwest. My wife is from DC and I have lived in the south and the East coast and all Midwest Chinese food tastes fake to me. The best American Chinese food I've ever had was a variant on Sesame chicken from a hole in the wall in Lynchburg VA, and my wife had a similar experience from a place in Bristow, VA. We havent found a single place in Wisconsin we would consider returning to. So when multiple people told me they drive out of town just to get Chinese food from Moy's, they got my attention, and on a recent trip back from Illinois we decided to stop. First of all, some of the other reviews mention the service being rude or bad. That was not our experience. Everyone we encountered was friendly, police, and just overall excellent service. We got an appetizer sampler that had beef skewers, ribs, fried shrimp, egg rolls, and crab rangoon. The beef skewers and egg rolls were excellent, definitely well above average. The ribs and crab rangoon were standard. The fried shimp didnt do anything for either of us. We both got sesame chicken and pork fried rice. The pork fried rice was also excellent, well above average. The sesame chicken was average, maybe a little subpar. The tea was also above average. There are probably entrees as excellent as the best things we tried, but not the one we are looking for. We'll go back, but we wont go out of our way. read more
