I've got to give Sweet Bakery some love! Asian bakery on a somewhat rough and tumble corner in the ID that has seen many businesses come and go. Like alot of Asian style bakeries, you grab a cafeteria tray and tongs, select your goodies and pay at the counter. If i am coming from the chinatown/ID light link rail station I will usually go in and grab a few bags of the cookies to take to work. These are always a big hit! Not too sweet so you can just keep eating them. Favorites include sesame, cherry and chocolate. They come in "made with love" labeled bags which is a nice touch. Inside is clean and organized. Please support this local business!!

Sweet Bakery is a newer Chinese bakery in the CID, replacing what used to be an 85C. They have a good selection of baked goods, including various breads and pastries, steamed buns, cakes, even some light sandwiches. Pricing is between $3 and $4 for most buns, which isn't bad for Seattle. Reviews both here and on Google indicate a terrible owner, although I can't verify that. The cashier, at least, was extremely welcoming and polite. He spoke both English and Mandarin fluently. When I visited, there was a small selection of BOGO pastries near the register. Interestingly enough, it was buy one from the regular display cases, get one of those for free. I'm not sure if they were day old or just misshapen pastries. Milky Roll ($3.25) - This is a coconut cream bun. Soft, slightly sweet and chewy milk bread is cut in the center and filled with a very light and soft cream, then dusted with shredded coconut. The cream seems to be some type of stabilized whipped cream, a bit on the oily side which makes it adhere to the lips while eating. Otherwise there's not really anything else to comment about. It's a good light treat. (4/5) Ham & Cheese Bun ($3.95) - Same soft base but this time paired with a kind of tough and dry piece of ham, some creamy mayo, and lots of cheese that's a little gummy. The pastry overall is extremely oily, leaving a film of grease anywhere it touches. (3/5) Ham & Cream Cheese Bun ($3.95) - This includes some fatty, kind of gelatinously chewy bacon with cheese. Again, extremely oily and kind of unpleasant to touch. There's no mayo in this one, nor any cream cheese or ham, so I have no idea why they call it a "ham & cream cheese bun." Perhaps they put it on the wrong shelf? (3/5) Green Tea Red Bean Glutinous Rice Ball ($4.75) - This comes with three pieces. These are very fresh, with a super soft and airy, yet bouncy exterior, similar to a softer mochi. The pounded glutinous rice covers a large ball of sweetened red bean paste. The paste is very smooth with no hint of grittiness or red bean skin whatsoever. The taste of the brownish green exterior definitely has some green tea powder incorporated giving it a somewhat earthy and grassy taste, although not to the point of tasting like matcha. The outside is dusted with coconut shreds. It's sweet but not too sweet. (4/5) Sweet Bakery is a pretty average classic Chinese bakery. They don't do anything that separates them from competitors, but there's not really anything bad about their offerings either. They'll easily do in a pinch. Besides, it's always nice to see a new independent business pop up in a storefront that's been vacant for years. Bathrooms - At least one unisex room, possibly two, that require a code to enter.

Newest Chinese bakery to come into Chinatown-International District! I haven't heard any social media posts about it just yet, perhaps I will have to make a video on them, but I noticed they took over the old 85 bakery that was here after walking by. I came in yesterday, and staff told me they opened this past Friday, seems to still be in a soft opening stage. There's a decent amount of items here, I grabbed my favourite hot dog buns and they were super delicious and soft to the bite! I do think there could be even more options for pastries, but I have to try their drink menu too. Will definitely be coming back for more!

This rating is actually a 3.5. I went here with some friends after one of them said they wanted to try it out. It's a cute looking shop. I wish they had a few more options as there were a lot of empty spots but they seemed to be out for the day. With what they had left we all chose our own items. I decided to get a butter bun and some walnut cookies. They're not too bad. The staff were ready at the register at all times. If you're in the area, I'd say it's worth it but I don't think it's going to be a go-to for me personally.

New bakery to try in Seattle! They specialize in Chinese bakery. Unfortunately I wasn't blown away like I wanted to be, but I did enjoy their vanilla cream puffs a lot. The cream was sweet and the pastry was good. It was around $4 for three of them. I found the other pastries, such as their red bean paste bread and pork floss bread okay. I've had good red bean paste bread in the past, and this restaurant's was not nearly as good at all. On top of that, it was almost like the bread was smashed down. It wasn't that sweet and the bread wasn't as great as it should be. Inside is pretty clean and new. There's a lot of pastries available. They have less towards the end of the night since they don't make pastries anymore. Service was okay. Communication was a bit limited due to language. They don't have napkins laying around which sucked. I'm sure some people will love this bakery, while others not so much. I'd give this place a 3.5/5

I originally planned to just grab a coffee and a croissant, but after noticing how popular the mushroom Gruyere croissant seemed, I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. It was incredibly delicious, perfectly filling, and even better when warmed up. The staff member kindly offered to heat it for me, which really elevated the whole experience. While they serve Umbria coffee, which isn't my personal favorite, the food more than made up for it. The service was warm and friendly, and the overall vibe was welcoming. I'll definitely be back to try the mushroom croissant again or maybe explore some of their other pastries next time.

I made the mistake of ordering a banh mí because I needed lunch and saw it advertised on their chalk board tent sign outside on the sidewalk. I'm sure everything else is great, except this. Like everything else, this was incredibly overpriced. The only disappointment was that I would rather order a banh mí from an authentic Vietnamese restaurant than a French bakery (yes, I know about the colonialism involved).

Through several visits: Baguette, Large ($7.95) - Great baguette with bubbling golden exterior complete with the perfectly baked crust even after waiting 3 hours before cutting in and eating. The interior has the perfect moisture level and is delightfully soft and chewy. The taste overall has a deep developed flavor. This is a great baguette. The only problem - the price. I can find ones for half the price that are maybe 80% as good as this one. (5/5) Seasonal Biscuit ($4.50) - This biscuit definitely isn't Southern-style. It's more of a drop biscuit, combining a relatively soft and tender interior with a nice exterior crust, without any flakiness or layering. The interior is almost cake-like in texture and crumb, and is plenty moist. They add plenty of fresh black pepper inside. It's distributed very evenly, giving a peppery bite with every mouthful. Parmesan is added to the top of the biscuit before baking, giving plenty of umami and richness but only on the upper layer. (4/5) Green Vinaigrette Cafeteria Style Pizza ($6.25) - The pizza is kept under a warming lamp, so it starts getting a little dried out after I assume a couple of hours spent there. I do love the base though - it's focaccia-like giving a really crunchy dark golden brown crust underneath, which supports the toppings. The pizza slice has lots of structural integrity and doesn't flop over. There's a base of fragrant concentrated tomato paste-like flavor which is topped with a very even layer of cheese. Since it's warmed rather than freshly baked, the cheese starts congealing a bit. The cheese is peppered with parsley, garlic, and a bunch of mustard seeds, giving a special zing. The toppings go all the way to the sides of the pie, making it great for people who dislike crust. Even though it's cafeteria style pizza that's kept under heat lamps, I quite liked it. I wonder if I can get a really fresh slice if I get there right at 11AM when lunch starts. (5/5) Chocolate Croissant ($6.10) - Great lamination with a very aesthetic honeycomb pattern. Baked on the harder side, causing fantastic crispy flaky layers to flake off, but also creating a darker golden brown character that is on the verge of bitterness. Nicely buttery soft and chewy interior. Chocolate is a darker variety, probably somewhere around 70%, so it has a pleasing balanced sweetness and chocolate flavor. It's not typical baton, instead seems to be a section from a bar. Still warm and melty even through I didn't eat the croissant until ~30 minutes after purchasing. When cooled down further, some red fruity notes start appearing, so this seems to be be pretty high quality. (5/5) White Sourdough ($12.60) - Now this is a loaf of bread. Superb crust, probably 2 or 3 times as thick compared to competitors, creating a supreme crusty bite with a chew approaching a hard crunch with almost caramelized molasses notes on the bottom. The interior is moist and tender with a pleasing slight sourdough tang. It's a superb piece of craftsmanship. (5/5) Kouign Amann ($5.80) - This is another heavier bake with some acridity development on the top surface. Unlike many other bakeries where the kouign amann is basically a differently shaped croissant with sugar glaze, Sea Wolf's version feels more in line with tradition. The crumb is denser and richer, more like brioche. There's interesting black speckling inside which I believe is due to the inclusion of espresso powder given the mild coffee-like flavor. The crust is again baked hard, but it's lighter and not as flaky as the croissant. They sprinkle just a bit of salt on top of a very light caramelized sugar glaze. It's not very sweet and I didn't find it too salty unlike some other reviewers. (5/5) Plain Focaccia Slice ($4.80) - Good quality olive oil, some salt sprinkled on top to boost the flavors. Light and airy interior, but the exterior is a little wan, being more light golden brown and lacking some good crusty crisp especially on the fried bottom. Quite oily. (4/5) Sea Wolf gives out free sourdough starter, which can be requested from the cashier. Since picking it up several weeks ago, I've gone through several feed/bake cycles for making sourdough focaccia. I've visited Sea Wolf 3 or 4 times in the last month. That's a testament to how high quality their pastries and breads are. I think the only thing stopping me from visiting more is thanks to the starter I got from them fanning my baking instincts. I bake so much now that I don't have any need to buy their bread! Note: Sea Wolf charges a 3% credit card fee. This is not noted on their menu - it only appears in the POS right before paying. Kind of sketchy. Bathrooms - Single unisex room

The kitchen is open, so you can watch as all of the scrumptious pastries are made. I liked the vibe here a lot. The space is shared with a bagel shop, but there is plenty of room for everyone. Service was fine. The line moved fast, and the prices were reasonable, comparable to other bakeries in Seattle. While I enjoyed the vibe at Sea Wolf Bakers a lot, I didn't think their pastries and coffee were nearly as good as some others I tried in Seattle. The espresso shot I tried was extremely bitter and just not as smooth as it should have been. The savory croissant was ok, but it lacked any big flavors, and the texture wasn't really croissant-like. The hit cross bun was just unimpressive and not very good at all. Overall, I would probably skip Sea Wolf Bakers next time. It's ok, but there are so many other amazing bakeries too. Maybe I tried the wrong stuff?

There really has been no rhyme or reason on when there are long or short lines, but for your sake, hope that you get a short line. The pastries are reasonably priced and freshly made, and if you don't like things that are too sweet they will be perfect for you. I think the only complaint I've had is the drinks the barista has made can be very hit or miss, especially once with Chai I had. The barista was nice enough to remake the drink, but that's probably one area of improvement. Overall, this is a great little spot and I look forward to coming back again.

The hojicha latte was rich and earthy in the best way, and it went really well with the black sesame cookie, which had a great strong sesame flavor, and the texture was perfectly chewy! The focaccia was pillowy and chewy at the same - I could've eaten five of these on their own. The frittata was my least favorite item, but by no means am I saying that it's bad! I really was looking forward to trying a cardamom croissant or bun but they didn't have either available. My iced latte was alright. Nothing to go crazy over. The cherry foam for an additional $2.00 was very pretty but that's where it stopped at. Absolutely no cherry or sakura flavor. Disappointed. The sesame cookie had a great smell to it. The aroma of sesame was strong. The cookie had a nice crisp to the edge and a chewy center. The sesame taste wasn't as strong as the smell. The spicy chicken sandwich on special was not spicy at all. It was overwhelmingly sweet from the orange glaze/sauce on the kitchen. It was a decent sandwich and I definitely finished it. Just not something I would gravitate back to.
