Love love love The owner is a very sweet older gentleman who has a gentle voice and beautiful smile. He was very welcoming, I look forward to returning again. I purchased the strawberry cake per his recommendation. It was an 8 inch that cost over 40 bucks. Pretty big too. It's Hong Kong style so the texture is spongy, airy and soft. It's also not too sweet. Apparently they don't play about making their desserts too sweet over there which I love. Perfect with a nice cup of coffee or tea. The boards in the windows, sparse display case, and random boxes of things strewn about doesn't make for the most welcoming vibe, but that did not affect how much I enjoyed their cake. I got a strawberry cake (6", $34), and it was delicious. The cake was light and fluffy, the frosting was decadent but not heavy, and there were strawberries inbetween the layers, too. I was in town and craved some durian cake. Yelp lead me to this bakery. This bakery looks like literally a hole in the wall. The door isn't even fancy or anything. when you walk in you're greeted with a full of cakes that are ready to purchase and some assorted baked buns. I called ahead of time to pick up a 6 inch durian cake. The guy asked me over the phone is this for anything, and my response was "I said it's for me to eat because I want some durian cake". The cake itself shifted while I held the box like a football and that was my bad. From what I recall the layer of cream in the inside was very thin and even then there wasnt that much durian in it. The outside frosting is almost like cool whip which I'm a fan of and the chocolate smear on the bottom really complimented it. The cake itself isn't moist, it's soft and spongy and really it reminded me of angel food cake texture. Overall for $39 you can consider this a personalized cake that is durian tasting. The value for what you get is great, especially their breads. For more money you can get similar items from 85 degrees or tous les jours, but they're way smaller than the ones here. I ordered a 6" durian cake around 11:35AM on a Friday and the cake was available for pickup within a little less than an hour. Not many bakeries have quick turnaround times when placing an order the same day. The cake itself is delicious-- light, fresh, and spongy. You also have the option to customize toppings and decorations + it comes w/ a free candle. You can tell they put a lot thought and effort into their craftsmanship w/ the amount of questions they ask prior. Honestly the only bakery I can trust to be consistent and precise. I used to go to yummy bakery a lot 6 years ago. A lot has happened to it since. First off, the shop front is boarded up and I was afraid they had closed down. But nope! Still open. It seemed like they scaled down on their pastry production and now just serve the basic milk bread type pastries, egg tarts, and cake. I remember when the left side walls used to be lined with deliciousness. Now it is just inside the counter. Perhaps they serve more on other days but that is pretty much all I saw. I was hoping they had mooncakes available as it was the mid autumn moon festival but nope! Honestly, the pastries are still good. I tried the egg tart (less flavorful that other places), the coconut bun (delicious, tasted like there was butter in the cream), cream bun (tasted like it should), and red bean bun (very sweet). I enjoy walking into the bakery and getting smacked with the smell of delicious durian cake. The prices have increased a bit as well but their pastries are bigger than a lot of other places. Service is fine. I enjoy not having to exchange pleasantries with people. There is a service fee for purchases under 10 dollars. It used to be cash only so there is some improvement. read more

I was looking for a quick and easy place to pick up some pastries before heading to a friend's house and stopped in to grab a few things. From the outside, it looks as if they are closed because the windows are boarded up, but they had the door open and an open light on, so I headed in. They had good selection still on a Sunday afternoon, so I grabbed 6 breads and 3 egg tarts are only around $20! They have great prices, similar to pricing pre-COVID, so I will definitely be back! Yummy House has been my go-to place so far when buying a birthday cake! This past time, I ordered a durian 6" birthday cake with white cake and white frosting for my best friend, which was around $37. It was about $15 more than a plain white cake because of the added durian. I had to order and pick up the same day to make it in time for my friend's birthday. I wasn't sure if they were able to make one that quick and was a bit worried. However, they said they could do it, and I was so thankful. Upon picking up the cake, I was so happy with how it came out, as it was so cute! They included one long candle, and we decided to add more of our own. My friend loved it! Yummy House has been a Cantonese bakery in the Chinatown International District for many years, providing deliciousness of buns, breads, cakes, and more. Because of COVID and riots, Yummy House stands as a shadow (figuratively and in actuality) of its former self and they need your help! First, about their pastries, think pineapple buns, cocktail buns, baked pork buns, and so much more. My favorite is their paper wrapped sponge cake. I buy them from here (and from Uwajimaya back when they carried YH items). Next, cakes. Like many Asian cake shops, they specialize in light sponge cakes, with plenty of cut fruits in between, and finished with a light cream. They are never overly sweet nor heavy. You can order cakes, buy by the slice, or buy a Swiss roll. They also make items like cream horns and eclairs. But offerings may be less now, so you should call to confirm. Lastly, I am addressing current conditions. Please take a look at the other photos to see a store of vibrant lighting filled with self-serve bins to grab your own pastries with tongs. Now because of riots, the store front is darkened with the plywood still on the glass. Because of COVID, they have re-arranged the store such that only two cases are at the front, and the entire staff area is completely sealed away from the front with plastic. I asked the lady at the counter, and she expressed genuine fear of infections. Poor lady. I do feel bad for all service staff in general. (Unless I'm mistaken, I'm pretty sure she's the owner as I have seen her there many times.) Not surprising, business is suffering. Few stores had almost nothing on display so perhaps 4 pm is late for bakery shopping. It has been a long time since I purchased chinese bakery. Bakery cost at Yummy House Bakery is decent for the size. After picking out several items, I noticed couple bags of bakeries put on top of the display case. I asked the guy what they were and he told me they were day old bakeries. They packed the day one with variety. I can't remember how much I paid for a bag like under $5 and I got 6 items. What a find! When I tried them at my hotel, I was pleasantly surprised how tasty their bakeries were. I can't really tell the fresh ones from day one bakeries. So I would definitely check out there day old option first next time I visit Seattle. read more

Prices are going up, as they are everywhere, but you get your $ worth since baked good seems larger here than at other bakeries. For best selection, late morning seems to be the sweet spot. By late afternoon, pickings are slim but there were still about 8 different items available. They occasionally have day old items at greater than 50% discount. I could easily eat a whole Mango mousse cake by myself! It's so soft and fluffy and the jelly like glaze on top is really good. The overall texture of this cake is amazing but they're also really BEAUTIFUL cakes! I had seen them as I was walking by and came back a few minutes later, I couldn't stop thinking about them! It was a little later in the day so there were a few choices left but I saw a dried pork bun that looked really good. The dried pork bun flakes had a fishy taste at first kind of Like takoyaki. Another bite and it was such a delicious unique pork taste that I was in love with it. There's also a bit of mayo in the inside and normally I hate mayo but altogether it's such a great combo! The outside of the shop is boarded up and spray painted but don't let that stop you from coming in. I had to get a last minute cake for my niece birthday and I placed an order at about 10am. After a few issues, everything was done and ready by 10:40am. I was amazed that they were able to accommodate for a cake and follow up with me with all the issues along the way. We ended ordering a strawberry cake and it was good. It was a standard cake with lots of strawberry and they were able to customize the cake to my liking. The cake had a lot of cream but the cake was a little bland even though there was tons of cream and strawberry. While I wasn't the most impressed by the variety of goodies offered or by the decor/set-up of the place in general, I did absolutely love this cake! This bakery takes the cake for COVID precautions. The transparent divider they made between customers in the front of the house and everything else in the back of the house seems like it keeps the business safe. They slide your order through a flap in the divider and the only thing the customer touches is the credit card reader. I am not really fluent in Hong Kong style bakeries, nor am I really a fan of cake or Hong Kong style breads, but I wanted to try this place out because small businesses need our help during COVID. Here's my review: - Chestnut cake - very tall cake, 2 layers of whip cream (a thick layer on top and a thin layer toward the bottom), a very thick layer of chestnut cream in the middle, and 2 layers of white cake. The chestnut cream holds all the flavor. I vote this as the best of the desserts. - Egg tart - the crust was perfectly light, lighter than a graham cracker crust. The egg flavor was very intense. This was my first time eating an egg tart, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was surprised by how full of flavor this was. It's also very gelatinous. - Tiramisu cheesecake: 2 layers of chocolate sponge cake with dense cheesecake layers, and topped with powdered cocoa. I stumbled upon their mango mousse cake, and it is the perfect treat to beat the heat. A couple light slices of cake with generous layers of fresh mango mousse, studded with chunks of mango, and topped with mango glaze. If this doesn't spell summer, what does? I love that you can buy them by the slice if you don't want the whole cake, especially if you want to save room for their other baked goods like the huge baked BBQ pork bun or the hefty cocktail bun stuffed with coconut filling. Look at the size of that cocktail bun! The selection is a bit limited at the moment, but they have great Covid safety measures, including big sheets of plastic to divide the employee side from the customer side. In recent years I've had a red velvet cake topped with decadent chocolate art pieces. I paid half the deposit up front in previous orders but this time I paid for it in full because I trust them. The cake came out amazing! See pictures below. The words can be a little more cleaned up but hey, who cares when the rest of it is bomb! Lol. The cake was fresh, light and the toppings made it look just as good as it tasted! I highly recommend this bakery for your simple cakes whether it's fruit cake, chocolate or red velvet cake. You pay pretty much $30-50 depending on the cake size and other customization. I added extra strawberries to this previous cake. They listen to your needs and make it exceptionally well. You can call the day of your pick-up to update them when you're coming or if you're having another recipient get the cake. Make sure you have your receipt copy when you come in to get it.
