Really happy I stumbled upon this place! I was looking for an "asian" cake where as it was "not too sweet" but still enjoyable. I ordered three 4-inch cakes: tiramisu, strawberry, and mango. All were very delicious! I was happily surprised with the mango - because it had sago inside the light and creamy frosting. Yum! Maybe COVID did a number on this location, because when we went in during lunch time the exterior was plastered with dessert posters and it was empty with a dog barking in the back. About 3.5 stars for me, but honestly I would come back here as well as take my parents here. My husband and I were randomly craving for dessert (specifically egg bubble waffles for the husband) and we decided to come over here after a quick yelp search. We found parking on 50th pretty easily and walked to Cafe O'Dessert. It was fairly easy to find. When we got in around 8 pm, there was nobody else in there. The owners were just finishing up their dinner, and a younger lady came out to the register to help us. Their menu had quite a bit of Hong Kong desserts. Everything looked really good, but we decided to just stick with the original egg waffle and a matcha egg waffle. We also got a side of condensed milk. They put it on the side for us so we could drizzle it on ourselves. The original egg waffle came out much sooner then the matcha. They were both very good (although, I still think Happy Lemon is better). The matcha flavor was light, the waffles were warm, a little denser then the other egg waffles I've had around Seattle. There other desserts also looked really good. The decor and atmosphere of the place was a little bland, service was average. But I did enjoy the food, and it's fairly close to where we live. Firstly, if you were here awhile back, this location is revamped, eliminating hot foods, now serving desserts with a bakery section only. The focus of their desserts are Cantonese/Hong Kong style. This is a big distinction vs. the other Asian sweet shops popping up in the area, many are Taiwanese. The warm purple rice with mango is amongst my favorite - execution and flavor. The purple rice is soft and a touch warm - perfect! The honey mango (SE Asian vs. Mexican) is currently in season which is the only way to eat this dish. The light coconut sauce is not as thick and sweet as Thai style, which is also a signature of the HK style. The combination is wonderful as every bite of the rice can be covered with the coconut sauce. Next up, the mango sago. The only thing you'll want differently is more. Some places cheap out this dish by replacing some of the mango sauce with cream sauce. That's a no no. The taste combination is perfect. Again, best to eat this when honey mango is in season. Next, ginger milk custard. This is a very traditional dessert. You have to like ginger to appreciate this. She does this dish wonderfully in the traditional manner - serving a dish of ginger sauce, pouring the warm milk into the dish of ginger sauce in front of you, covering it up, and letting the watery pudding form in minutes. Last, probably the most 'commercial', is the shaved snow, and it's very refreshing. Multiple flavors to choose from and one topping. I picked the blueberry and mango popping boba. ATMOSPHERE I'm not sure how busy this place gets because I went a bit before they were closing. WHAT DID I TRY? I tried their dulce de leche cake, their taro cake, and their chocolate tiramisu cake. They come in these cute little rectangular packages so even if you don't finish the cake, you can store it for later. All their cakes were very moist, super airy, and not overly sweet. Cafe O Dessert is a hidden spot in the University District. They served excellent desserts for a reasonable price. The shop is owned by a Chinese family that makes all of their desserts in house. Their crepe cake has a good balance of flavor and rich in the flavor that you pick. My go-to dessert is always the mango pomelo sago for a refreshing fruity dessert. A new sweet spot added to the Ave. If you're looking for shaved ice, this is the place to go. O Dessert is located above 47th street on University District, around where Banh Mi Unwrapped is located. They have some flashy lights so you should be able to see it. The interior looks like a small cafe with a couple of tables. There are a lot of whiteboards with cute drawings and writings. The owner of this place is an absolute darling. She is so sweet and warm. Now that it's beginning to get cold outside she asked if we would like some hot tea. I kindly accepted and she brought us two mugs. The tea was perfectly the right temperature - not piping hot but not lukewarm. She served us an earl grey tea (which tasted amazing!) but they offer a variety of Sip Sit Study loose leaf teas. If you are a tea fan, you can probably find a kind that you will enjoy here. The menu is pretty straightforward. However, there is no price listed for the shaved ice and all the flavors are not listed either. The owner came to us and told us that asides from strawberry and mango (which is seen on the menu), she had blocks of peanut, green tea, coconut and watermelon! We were first set on mango but she told us that she could layer two different flavors for us. How awesome! So we decided to go with strawberry and mango. The shaved ice - beautiful. It is piled on like a crystal mountain, topped with popping jelly, flavored syrup and condensed milk. The sides are rimmed with fresh fruit. The texture was impressive. Most of the time shaved ice tastes like shards of crushed up ice. However, this was smooth and easily melted in your mouth. The shaved ice is not overpoweringly sweet. Surprisingly, it's actually not as sweet as you would think. The mango and strawberry flavor is very subtle but you get a hint of it with each bite. The condensed milk really keeps the shaved ice in shape but also adds an added boost of sweetness. There is plenty of shaved ice for two people to share - I don't recommend tackling one of these down by yourself unless you have a hefty appetite! Overall, this is the best shaved ice that I have had in Seattle and is a must try. The owner is so accommodating and friendly. I was expecting the shaved ice to be around $10 but it was actually only $7. I would consider this as a steal for shaved ice this good. The place has free WiFi if you're looking for a place to do homework. They don't seem to play any music (or at least they weren't when I arrived) so if you are the type to study in silent libraries, this place might work for you. Some of the refrigerators are a bit on the louder side though. The hours are not posted outside but they are open Mon-Fri from 11 am - 10 pm and on the weekends from 11 am - 11 pm. This cafe specializes in Chinese desserts, such as black sesame soup, coconut milk and sticky rice, shaved ice and more. We came by around 9:30PM, not realizing that the cafe was supposed to close at 10PM. The lady, however, was very accommodating and didn't kick us out - probably because we ordered quite a large number of desserts. ;) Our group decided to try the: -Shaved/Snow Ice - We were a bit confused while ordering - from what we gathered, you can choose about two different flavors for your shaved ice: strawberry, blueberry, mango, watermelon, cantelope, coconut, taro, milk, sesame and more. We thought those were toppings at first, but it turned out to be layers of flavored ice? My favorite was the taro. :) -Bubble Waffle - We also got the bubble waffle, which comes with a side of whip cream. It's a bit on the pricier end, I think, for what it is.. They also added a new page to their menu, but forgot to include translations (haha...). Ever since I tried Frostcity in Honolulu, I have been trying to find a place in Seattle that served something similar to their snow ice. It seems with one of The Ave's newer additions, Cafe O'Dessert, was the answer to my quest for snow ice. For those unfamiliar with snow ice, its basically a block of flavored ice that is shaved down to a snow-like texture, yet creamy when consumed. At Cafe O'Dessert, its known as shaved ice. They offer a variety of flavors such as mango, watermelon, blueberry, strawberry, cantaloupe, sesame, coconut, peanut, milk, green tea and taro. I let my sister choose our flavor combo and she went with watermelon and coconut with fruit topping. Surprisingly, the shaved ice flavors were not too sweet but were refreshing. I was a little disappointed with the texture, since it was icy/gritty not like the snow ice I've been looking for. Since we got ours in a take out container, the toppings were at the bottom which meant we had to do some digging to construct that perfect bite. While its not exactly what I was looking for, I'll be back to sample their other offerings. I do find their shaved ice refreshing and a good option if you are in need of a light dessert. read more

I've been here a few times for different desserts. The first time I tried the taro tapioca soup dessert and it was good but I couldn't finish it all because it was too filling. I'd order it again if I was craving it though. I've also tried their flavored shave ice. I was confused at first because the pictures have lots of strawberries and mangoes and that's what we wanted, but somehow they added strawberry, milk and mango-flavored shave ice instead of the actual fruits. That was fine, but I would've preferred the fruits than the flavors. The texture of the shaved ice is pretty unique and unlike anywhere else I've had shaved ice in Seattle. Cafe O'Dessert is a great place for warm Asian desserts. I've literally been there like 4 times this week after discovering this small gem. I've tried the Red Bean Rice Ball soup (红豆沙汤圆), the Mango with Sago (芒果西米露), the Black Sticky Rice with Mango and Coconut Milk (叶子芒果黑糯米), and the Signature Shaved Ice. All of them have been absolutely delicious and I cannot wait to try more. This place also uses this Mobile App for their punch card and I am only 5 more away from a free dessert of my choice haha. One of the few Hong-Kong style dessert place in U-District! This place is a little bit small but really cute. It's well decorated and I think they also renovated it recently. As implied by the name, their dessert is a bomb. Order anything you like - black sticky rice, sweet stew, puddings, sago, waffles... Anything sweet there is really good. It's super affordable too! Most of them are under $7 and you can order on your own or share it with a friend. Despite their awesome dessert, I had a bad experience with their entrée. I ordered a BBQ shrimp fried rice and waited for about 40 mins while there weren't many people at all. Also the fried rice doesn't have much bbq and shrimp in it so I was disappointed. 5-star dessert but 2-star main dish I guess? Always wanna go back and give it a second try again. I stopped by here for a quick dessert and was pleasantly surprised! The interior is small but very cute, clean and modern. I ordered the original egg bubble waffle drizzled with condensed milk. The snow ice texture itself was a bit weird. I'm used to it being super fluffy and creamy, but this places was a little sticky and dense but not bad. Flavor of snow was light, but enjoyable. Never order real (savory) food here. It is CLEARLY not what they are known for... I could have made the beef brisket noodle soup myself and done a better job (with hours of labor of course) but it honestly wasn't anything special. What I am giving this place 4 stars for, is their wonderful taiwanese shaved ice. Taiwanese shaved ice is different from hawaiian shaved ice, it's not just shredded ice like snow cones but it's a block of milk infused ice that they shave off slivers, micro strands if you will, of beautiful and silky perfection into thin sheets of milk based "shaved ice" and then they add certain toppings you can choose from. The black sesame has always been my favorite and I have yet to try the other flavors. I'm not a HUGE fan of mocha or red beans, but it went well with the black sesame. I've had various places in LA such as blockheads, and this place is pretty comparable in taste. It was a bit confusing upon entering as I didn't see any menus. Luckily I knew what I wanted from previous yelp reviews and pictures. I ordered the durian pancake and egg tarts. I was given a mango pancake. Oh well, it was fresh and yummy. The egg tart pastry was light and flaky and the egg custard was perfectly sweet. Came in for matcha waffle, matcha ice cream, coconut jelly order. Cashier repeated order to me to make sure it was correct, I said yes. I sit and have a chat with friends while waiting for my order. Mind you, my friend ordered the same thing but with different flavor -- and other than us, there were two other people inside the cafe. 15 minutes pass by and neither of us have received our order. 20 minutes pass and my friend asks the cashier where our order is. Cashier said it's still being made. 30 minutes pass and I get my order but it was the wrong flavor, so it had to be remade. My friend got her order after my *wrong* order. It took maybe another 15 minutes to finally get my matcha waffle matcha ice cream coconut jelly dessert. I give two stars because the lady was polite and the dessert was still good. But the wait time to make that with the amount of people inside the cafe was ridiculous. read more
