ordered a cake here for my partner's birthday and we both loved it!! bought the strawberry shortcake with a custom message and it was incredibly fluffy, moist, and the perfect balance of sweetness. would highly rec enjoying with some hot tea. i definitely want to come back at try the other treats. i stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have too much trouble parking. people working there were very kind. thank you to the baker who helped make the day special!

Please note that this review is just for the yummylicious Green Tea Strawberry cake :) I have to admit, Setsuko Pastry makes a kickass birthday cake! Ordered a green tea strawberry cake here for my mom's birthday and overall, it was a tasty treat. Loaded with fresh strawberries, the cake itself was flavorable in its rich matcha (slightly bitter) taste. This contrasted pretty well with the layers of creme inside and overall, the cake itself wasn't too sweet. Texture wise, the cake was light and fluffy and not too try. As for the cake size, it's around 9in and as I was informed, it was the only cake size available. Flavor Options: There is an option to get other flavors for the cake, so make sure to ask if green tea isn't your thing! Cost of the cake~ Roughly around $55 with tax included With the cake being so good, I would definitely will swing by again to try out the different desserts here! :)

Cute Japanese bakery with the delicious, Japanese baked goods you'd expect. Love that this cafe is open later than others of its kind, and while it was small, I had no problem finding a seat. Though after dinner many of their desserts were sold out. Will be back to try more yummies.

Under reviewed and is a Seattle hidden gem. Why doesn't Seattle know about this place? Maybe because it's tiny and is adjoined to a sushi joint. 4/2/2018 As of this date, there are 9 reviews, and 2 are from Canada. They need a little bit of love. Light fluffy Japanese style desserts. I went for the matcha stuff. I like matcha. One critique: it's inside the restaurant and the sashimi smell can be a bit overwhelming for some peeps to have dessert inside.

They have some room for improvement for sure. I've ordered online. Cheesecake and yuzu panacotta we're delicious. However, flourless cake, sweet custard and mochi were flavorless with weird texture. I would definitely order again just for the yuzu panacotta though or to check a regular cake.

Came by Setsuko Pastry recently and glad I checked them out. It's a small little pastry shop inside of Modern Japanese Cuisine restaurant. Same address. So you can have dinner and get some wonderful pastries later. Located off Phinney Ave in, well you guessed it....Phinney Ridge. It may be a little tough to find so just look for the address and you'll do fine. I came by to get a few pastry treats so I perused the counter display and decided to get one of their Plain Baked Cheesecake slices because I can be basic like that. It was pretty good, nice & light, creamy, plain and simple. Also got one of their Green Tea Cheesecakes which also was tasty. I'm not a big fan of green tea but this was pretty good and would get it again. For me, it was pretty light in the green tea flavor which is perfect for me. Nice & light, smooooove texture and well made. Lastly, I got one of the specials of the day and got one of their Pound Cake w/Strawberry Cream. Once again, nice & light, pretty simple but delicious. All of the pastries were not overly sweet and that's one of the reasons I like Japanese pastries so much. Not heavy and on the lighter side. Prices are around $5 or so each, staff was very nice & friendly, nice greetings and goodbyes. Definitely would come back to try more stuff, great small business inside of another small business.

Japanese cheesecake. Light, fluffy, not too sweet.

Been spending more time in Ballard since taking our pup to puppy school, so I've been trying to expand my food horizons. Was looking up pastries on Yelp and came across this gem. Located in phinney, it's inside of modern Japanese cuisine. They have a small refrigerated pastry case up front upon walking in filled with cheesecakes, mousse, tiramisu, and roll cake. I got a few Japanese cheesecake slices, matcha cheesecake, tiramisu, matcha tiramisu, and a couple of strawberry roll cake slices. Everything was delicious, creamy, light, and not overly sweet. Took a couple of items to my parents and they loved it and didn't want to share. If you're looking for desserts that aren't as rich as traditional desserts, definitely check this place out.

Super grateful to have this green tea tiramisu cake. Tasting is so amazing. The balance between matcha's biterness and sweet it's so perfect. Thank you Setsuko :)

I just want to sending my thanks for your awesome birthday cake which my husband ordered for me. I am a crazy green-tea lover. I have to say your green-tea birthday cake made my day and made my birthday overflowed with graceful. Thank you!

They have so many yummy options, but I settled on a mushroom and Gruyère pastry and an earl grey blueberry cruffin. The mushroom and Gruyère pastry was SO good!!! Buttery flaky layers of dough with a strong earthy mushroom flavor and savory cheese - an absolute umami bomb. We ate it the day after and threw it in the air fryer for a couple of minutes, and it was so delicious. The cruffin was huge! Topped with a delicious light Earl grey cream that wasn't too sweet. It was filled with a blueberry cream and was definitely very filling. There's a lot of sugar coating it, as is standard with cruffins, but it's a nice sweet treat. Definitely coming back for the mushroom and Gruyère pastry and to try their other delicious flavors. Their supreme croissant flavor switches often and we can't wait to try the next one! While they serve Umbria coffee, which isn't my personal favorite, the food more than made up for it. The service was warm and friendly, and the overall vibe was welcoming. I'll definitely be back to try the mushroom croissant again or maybe explore some of their other pastries next time.

This very small pie that is $45 and it's just not that impressive for the very high price. It's less than 1 inch thick and barely 8 inches. I guess if you're in the city and you don't have a lot of options it's pretty good but if you know anything about pies, this small pie for $45 is a little outrageous. If this is going to be your one thing, it should be way better than this. I would recommend checking out other bakeries in the Seattle area that make pies and in my experience it's a better value and as good and in most cases generally better. I love making a good strawberry rhubarb pie but my pies generally have about 3 to 4 times the amount of filling and are generally in a much more normal pie pan. The rhubarb and strawberry was perfectly acceptable for the flavor, but the crust was a little soft. I suspect a lot of these reviews are date nights and people wandering around on evening outings and looking for a fun experiences. I guess it meets that goal but I'm still just not impressed at the price and what you get for it. It's just not a good value. If you're going to do it, do it for the experience rather than expecting a spectacular pie. And if you find this pie impressive, you need to get out more. #Average. I would recommend the metropolitan market bakery for a better pie and a better value.

The cashier had to yell to make customers line up properly. The line was longer than I thought, and I wasn't in the mood to wait so I left empty handed the first time round. I had another chance the same day to revisit around 15 minutes before close, so I took that chance. There were only one other party being helped, and there were still plenty of baked goods to choose from. I was eyeing the demi baguette and the scone since the morning, so I got them. I was excited about the baguette because it was like $2.7 each, whereas the same thing costs like $6 at sea wolf. I wanted to find out if the baguette is as good as the one at sea wolf, and if so, I would start coming here because it's much closer to where I live. And Larsen's delivered on the baguette! It was dense in the right way and went well with the brie cheese I had on hand. Sea wolf's are kind of elevated with the half sourdough but Larsen's baguette tasted pretty on par for me, and you cannot beat the price here. This was a happy discovery! Scone was average. I am interested in trying their other stuff. It was interesting that they had a rather American baked goods like donuts and cookies. I'll take whatever is good and reasonably priced!

The top layer was of this matcha cream dusted with matcha powder. Laid on top a thin soaked layer of cake on top of another layer of that matcha cream on top of an unsoaked layer of cake. Right off the bat, not too bitter or earthy. Not too sweet or dense. aesthetically pleasing. The interesting thing is that if you eat all 4 layers at the same time.
