Paper Cake Shop looks beautiful and the cakes are definitely very aesthetic, but honestly this was one of the most disappointing dessert experiences I've had. The cakes were probably the driest cakes I've ever eaten, and the taste was just awful. We paid around $40 for 3 very small pieces, which felt completely unreasonable for the quality. Yes, it's in a nice neighborhood and the presentation is pretty, but it is absolutely not worth it whatsoever.

The aesthetic of this place is such a vibe. It's giving cute cafe culture you'd find in like Korea or Japan with a Wes Anderson feel from the decor. All their ingredients are locally sourced and highlight the great produce and talent seattle has to offer. All the cakes were so visually appealing, but we settled on the black sesame cake and the gluten-free chocolate cake.

Ube Mocha Pretty presentation, but not much ube flavor despite the color. More caramel and butterscotch notes than anything, though the chocolate sauce oozing out was a nice touch. Chocolate Miso So much better. The salted miso notes perfectly balanced the sweetness, bringing out the chocolate and caramel without being overpowering. Rich but not heavy, easily the winner between the two. For the cost of the cake, I was expecting more forward flavors and balanced cakes.

It's such a cute little cake spot in Fremont! My friends and I tried a bunch of cakes here and everything was so yummy. My absolute favorite was the Coco Nana. It was a chocolate cake with misugaru frosting that tasted next level. We also tried the Yoka Miso Chocolate and Keel Bill, which had cool flavors like lychee gel and fruit loops. It had really unique combos you don't find everywhere. Only downside is that the prices are kinda wild. One pastry was $11.55. It is def on the expensive side, but goes without saying that the flavors and vibes unique. Service is great too!

Visually the cakes are so aesthetic and pretty, with unique flavors and combinations. However, 5 out of the 6 flavors we tried were way too sweet in my opinion. I thought the texture of the cake was fine and soft, but a majority of the jams/fillings used, and the buttercream was so overwhelmingly sweet I was done after one bite. For example, trying a smudge of the jam alone in some of the cakes felt like I was eating liquified candy and syrup. The cakes here have pretty bold and strong flavors. While I personally enjoy more subtle, light flavors in cake, I know dessert and cake is a very personal preference, so if you like rich and stronger flavors, this place will probably satisfy your craving! The sizes of the individual slices are also a little smaller than what you could probably get from other bakeries. I would recommend coming to try some of the atypical flavors and combinations they offer but maybe bring a glass of milk with you to temper out the sweetness.

Cafe itself was super cute. This review really only is for the thai tea cake slice since that was the only flavor I tried. It was really crumbly. The cake did not taste like thai tea at all. I could only stomach one to two bites of the cake. I had high hopes for this place, but was let down.

I've seen so many videos on Instagram of this place and I had to give it a try! Ambience is great - It's a great place to catch up with friends over coffee and cake. I was pretty surprised by the cost of each slice priced at $8 but each piece is very aesthetically pleasing. However, it definitely looks better than it tastes. I was very disappointed at how dry the cake was & frosting was not it for me. It was stale, hard and fell apart every time I grabbed a bite. I wanted to like this place so bad but I don't think I'll come back :/

I've been wanting to stop by for quite sometime so when we're having a small ladies birthday shindig, I thought this would be perfect! Service was lovely and quick! I love that they always have a gluten free option . As someone with celiac it's not always easy to get to enjoy baked goods. There were two gluten free options, the yoka miso and pistachio pandan. Also in the box was POG, keel bill, stone way summer and Ube jasmine . I think the menu online and what I got in store was slightly off as there was a spiced cake that wasn't listed and didn't have the flavor profiles of the menu, but I didn't check once in the store so that was on me! Cakes were moist, but the flavors were subtle. I was hoping for a stronger pandan flavor but that and the pistachio were very delicate on the palette. Yoka miso was more chocolate forward but the caramel was lovely and enjoyable. As far as pricing goes, are they over priced? Yes. It's a great little cake shop but one that I think is more of a special treat than a place to go if craving something sweet. I do enjoy the seasonality of the available options and could see myself coming back again a time or two when the menu is different.

Paper cake has been on my list to try! At around $8 per slice, it's on the pricey end but good to split amongst friends. The flavors are delicious, creative, and unique. Service was good and friendly and the shop is pretty aesthetic. Highly recommend stopping by with a few friends and trying their slices!

Got their ice cream cake, so can't properly say I enjoy their regular cake just yet. The matcha raspberry and the black sesame ice cream cake were very good! Super refreshing cake! I enjoyed every bite!

During my visit to Seattle, my friend suggested we check out Paper Cake Shop after having seen their beautiful cake options on Instagram. Their cakes are STUNNING--each of them are so intricately done, and they all have interesting flavor combinations! We ordered the Mango Black Tea Cake. While the cakes look lovely, I would say they taste just okay. The cake itself is on the dry side, and the frosting is extremely hard and dense--I would say that the frosting was my least favorite part. The mango flavor also tasted extremely artificial, but it did add a nice contrast in flavor. I also think that the price is pretty steep for what you're getting, hence the lower rating. That being said, the shop's ambiance is very cute, with a good amount of seating and lots of pink. I think it would be a nice place to hang out and embrace girlhood. I think it's worth coming to get a sweet treat if you're in the area and take some cute food photos, but I wasn't that impressed.

Paper cake is located between Wallingford and Fremont and is the cutest shop. They even have seating so you can enjoy your cake and compliment it with a latte or tea! The cake! The cakes are beautifully decorated and have unique flavors that really make the tastebuds go wild! The Pog cake was one of my favorites! The staff were super friendly and helped pick amazing flavors! I highly recommend checking this shop out! Or ordering for your next occasion.

    Train to Busan cake

My friend and I stumbled upon this place by accident, and man was it a great one despite being very full! The inside is very lit up and cozy, and my friend and I were the only ones inside. You can see the display of cakes at the counter, and you order what you want from there. We got three cakes: the black sesame mochi, Train to Busan and the girl and the fig. The black sesame mochi's textures ended up fighting over each other so I thought it was a little too much there. The Train to Busan cake was had caramel and buttercream that balanced each other out well. Then the girl and the fig cake was my favorite, and was one of the new seasonal flavors at the time according to one of the bakers there. The fig and matcha taste was unexpected but it worked well! I was a little concerned that it had a small gold inedible ball in the middle, given it can be a choking hazard; regardless I'd come back again for this cake anytime!

Located just a 5 minute walk away from the Pioneer Square light rail station, this small French…read morecafe serves some seriously good pastries. They use high quality ingredients (Isigny Ste Mere butter, Valrhona chocolate, etc). It's something that really comes through in the final product. Cinnamon Cruffin ($6.50) - I'm not sure I would call this a cruffin since there's not really any laminated layers on the interior. It's more like monkey bread, with a richer brioche interior interspersed with ribbons of cinnamon, then dusted with cinnamon sugar on the outside. There are some crispy caramelized sugar bits on top which I found to be fun to bite into. (4/5) Casse-Noisette ($6.50) - The lamination on this croissant looks quite nice, but the interior isn't particularly buttery and the layers are quite delicate. It's filled with a hazelnut-dark chocolate spread which is sticky, messy and rich. I believe it's a homemade spread rather than nutella due to the richer taste and darker color. The exterior of the croissant is soft instead of crusty and shattering, probably since we didn't eat this until the end of the day. They sprinkle crunchy pearl sugar and crushed hazelnut on top, adding some additional pleasing texture. (5/5) Savory Tartelette ($6.50) - This tart is filled with tangy and funky goat cheese, sweet and soft caramelized onion, a drizzle of honey, and a small zing of rosemary, on a super buttery and crisp base. The croissant base tastes by far the most buttery as compared to both the Almond and Hazelnut croissants. (5/5) Almond Croissant ($6.50) - I believe this is a double baked croissant given the dark brown bake. As with the casse-noisette, this croissant has been softened by the Seattle spring humidity and unfortunately no longer remains particularly crisp. The croissant is cut in half and filled with a sweet almond frangipane. I believe it's made in house - it's more sugary than almond, and the texture is quite a bit less viscous than most almond croissants. The frangipane compresses the croissant layers into thicker slabs, and this creates a chewy texture that almost reminds me of egg in texture. (4/5) Kouign-Amann ($6.50) - Finally another proper Kouign-Amann! This one has enriched more brioche-like laminated dough rather than plain croissant dough like a lot of other bakeries use. This makes the pastry so much richer and decadent. The interior here has a certain flavor that's totally different from the dough in the casse-noisette and in the tart. I feel like there's a unique funk that might be from cultured butter. The pastry is still quite flaky, with layers that easily come apart, and there's still a bit of a crunch from the sugar glazed over the surface. I especially love the center, where towards in the interior, there's an almost sweet custard-like center, and the center top, where there's a sand-like mound of almost-melted sugar. (5/5) Marbre ZigZag ($5.99) - Really moist and dense marble cake, deceptively heavy for the size. There's a thick layer of dark chocolate ganache covering the cake layer, making the slice exceptionally rich. (5/5) La Baguette MBO ($3.95) - This is an oddly shaped baguette, curved instead of flat, and very uneven in width. The shape was strange enough I thought the baguette would not be good. Cutting it open with a bread knife, the interior crumb seems a little tight, missing some of the more open holes of a well risen baguette. The taste and crustiness, however, are excellent. The flavor is very well developed and there's a hard baked crust that gives a fantastic baguette crisp. It's not perfect, but for $4, which is less than baguettes cost at most places in Seattle, this is a great deal. (5/5) Mirabelle by Orphée is another excellent Seattle bakery! I will definitely be visiting again. Bathrooms - Single unisex room shared with the other building tenants. Requires code to enter
