Our server (Michelle I believe) was great, and an older gentleman who I'm assuming was the restaurant manager was super friendly and kind. Great service all around. My meal here was my first experience having the local shrimp (big and tasty) and datil sauce - so good! I got the minorcan datil shrimp with penne pasta and thoroughly enjoyed it, as well as my house salad with a key lime vinaigrette. It was also a huge portion and I was able to bring home leftovers for a second meal. I'd highly recommend to come here if you are in the area. It's a spacious restaurant right in the A1A. We went to the Sunset Grille twice on our vacation(we were staying across the street and they had great ratings). The first night was just to grab some dessert and the second night we went for a drink and appetizer as we were trying to check out several restaurants and not eat too much! Our dining experiences were very different...almost like we were at a different restaurant because one night we sat inside(very long wait for outside), and the second time we went early so we could sit on the upper deck(wait was about 10-15 minutes). The indoor dining is fine, but the atmosphere is SO different. It was kinda drab, but you could tell that people love going there for the food/service. That's the night we got pie and it was delicious! The key lime pie was everything you'd expect of a local homemade dessert and the peanut butter pie was surprisingly so much more awesome than I thought it would be! Unless you are a key lime lover- go with the peanut butter pie! On our second visit we got a comfy booth with a great view! The wings were awesome...so good that we ordered a case of datil hot sauce online! They come with blue cheese and I'm not a fan so I asked for some ranch, but our server told me to try it anyways because I would like it. We visited the Sunset Grill for a late lunch a few weeks ago. It was our first time there. We were disappointed that the roof deck was closed for lunch. They were pretty busy and there were no tables outside. We sat at a booth inside and were glad we did. We had a great waiter. My wife had trigger fish and shrimp with sides of Coleslaw and collard greens. The waiter warned us that the collard greens were sweet and not traditional southern style. His recommendation was spot on. It was a generous portion of fish that was cooked perfectly. The Coleslaw was great. I had the full rack of ribs. The ribs were tender and fell off the bone. They did not over sauce the ribs which I appreciate. I had sides of coleslaw and green beans. Very good lunch. We will be back to try other dishes. read more

We had a lovely server who was so friendly and took time to explain many of the items of the menu. And believe me...there were lots of interesting choices! We had the Crabby-Fries -- excellent! We are just visiting the St Augustine area for the first time. Our hotel staff recommended Sunset over a more popular place down the road. Sunset nailed it. Super relaxed atmosphere. For an appetizer we got the coconut shrimp and it was delicious. I would recommend getting the 12 and not just the six. Then for dinner my daughter and I split the seafood combo blackened ... it was delicious for a side dish we got the brussels sprouts and they were to die for. Out of all the places my mom and I ate in st augustine this had to be the BEST. It was a very short walk from the beach so we went there out of convenience but it ended up being the best meal we ever had on our trip. It was very crowed when we went and there was an hour wait but we managed to snag a table at the 'first come first serve' seating. My mom and I shared the fish n' chips and the lobster ravioli and both were absolutely mouthwatering. I practically licked the lobster ravioli plate clean it was soooooo good. Went here for lunch on my birthday. The food was excellent. The waiter, Austin, told me about the award winning ribs and I had to check them out for myself. They did not disappoint! They were cooked perfectly with amazing taste throughout. Others had the shrimp tacos, coconut shrimp and mahi tacos. Everyone raved about their dishes. We also had bang bang shrimp and the spinach-artichoke-crab dip for appetizers. Every dish we had was delicious and packed with flavor. We sat outside and enjoyed a nice view and breeze. Stopped for lunch on our way to Fort Matanzas on Sunday afternoon. We chose to sit upstairs and didn't have a wait at all. I had the Sea BLT and coleslaw. COVID related first: servers & hosts don't wear masks or gloves or shields (granted food busboy wears gloves but unclear how often their changed). Menus are plastic and shared between diners (with no evidence that they're sanitizing them between usage...and clearly not following the disposable menu guidance). Shared condiments like ketchup sitting on all tables (this is a huge no-no). No social distancing protocols for inside the restaurant, in their outside eating areas or for waiting/seating guests and groups (not keeping every other table empty, using floor tape, signs, or empty barstools). No hand sanitizer stations for guests (or employees unless in the kitchen). FOOD/SERVICE related: Food was really good, overall. Shrimp was great! That said, sadly our server messed up three out of five orders, but he was apologetic and tried to make it right each time. Also, the service took a really long time (more than normal for a restaurant of their size at mid-afternoon - 3pm'ish). OVERALL, great food and fun atmosphere, but service needs work, and if you're remotely concerned being ppl are still getting sick and dying -daily- from COVID, maybe not your first restaurant stop after quarantining. read more

My husband and I ate here this evening due to its close proximity to our hotel. We checked in at the host stand and were seated. Due to the large groups outside we were hopeful for good food. We ordered drinks where I ordered the Sunset Lemonade ($12) and my husband ordered an old fashioned ($12). The drinks arrived and there was no taste of alcohol at all in my lemonade - I honestly think I paid $12 for a glass of lemonade. My husband's drink arrived in what he called a "fancy Dixie cup" due to the size. I then ordered the fish and chips and my husband ordered the shrimp toast. After 30 minutes of waiting for food, it arrived and nothing was very hot. The fish was ok but definitely not crisp and the wedges were slightly burnt. We witnessed the gentleman next to us sending back his shrimp plate for coldness as well. The service was fast and excellent, the atmosphere clean and fun, and the food was absolutely warm, delicious, cooked to perfection and a great price. Our server (Destinee) was super nice, friendly, helpful, accommodating and made our time there pleasant. -My mother ordered the fish and chips, she states that the fish was cooked perfectly and was a large portion, the potatoes were good and got quite a lot of them. It does come with malt vinegar and coleslaw but my mother opted just for potatoes and fish because she wasn't that hungry. My mother also got an alcoholic cocktail named Sunset Ship Wreck which she described as tasty, refreshing, and had a great amount of alcohol in the glass. -I ordered the Baja Bowl with chicken, it was absolutely mouthwatering. I got a nice big serving and everything in the bowl was fresh and flavorful. The bowl included chicken, rice, corn, salsa, avocado ranch, beans, cheese, tortilla strips, and jalapeños. Drive here with my wife the atmosphere was great the food besides my wife's ahi tacos was the only disappointment in food served, the fish was just off in the taco and to much sauce flavors made it difficult to even taste the Ahi.
