Btw several of the family members here are founders of Mastro's empire who sold the chain to a private equity firm in 2007 and is now under the family of restaurants by Laundry's. I checked in and was seated immediately and was sat near the bar. It was on the loud side with the music, and the bar was at capacity. Ordered a bottle of cabernet, appetizer of crispy shrimp, and a complimentary warm dish of yummy bread. I went for the dry aged 22 oz rib eye, fresh branzino with lemon butter, asparagus, pan-fried wild mushrooms, and cream Brule corn. For dessert, we had the Ultimate warm vanilla caramel cake (aka - butter cake). The food and service were outstanding. I was in town for work and I've been on the search for great steakhouses lately and saw this place on Yelp. Called in and made an easy reservation with the very friendly and accommodating staff. I ordered the 45 day dry aged bone-in ribeye medium rare w/ no sides. My ribeye came out medium well, not very moist with little flavor. It looked nothing like the pictures on here, either. It's a shame I had really high hopes since the place is really nice. I understand every restaurant is hit or miss, but I've had some outstanding dry aged ribeyes and this wasn't it...it is what it is. Would I be back or recommend? Such a great experience we had and we have been to many great steakhouses when we travel. The restaurant is large but yet the noise level wasn't high which made for an enjoyable dinner. It is very comfortable, not stuffy as a high end steak house can be, but classy. The food was awesome. When it comes to steaks, I can only handle a petite filet mignon and it was seared and cooked perfectly. It was very soft, nearly melted in my mouth! Same for my hubby's primed bone-in rib eye. I finally got to try Steak 44 and it is definitely one of the best steakhouses I have ever been to! They have valet so no worries about finding parking (7$). The ambience is beautiful I really like the interior design. Now let's get into the service. I am most of the times unlucky with Wine and thus I asked our server to help me and I really appreciate his help! The Pork belly here is the best pork belly I have ever had!!! Star of the show. As someone who doesn't eat a lot of red meat, I was hesitant about coming here as I was worried the non-steak options wouldn't live up to the hype. I was so wrong. I don't think we ordered anything we didn't truly enjoy. I wish we had tried even more but with just two of us we got stuffed fast! The service was perfect, so attentive and even gave us hot towels after the main course. The steak was the best steak my partner had ever had, same with the truffle sauce alongside it. Skipped appetizers (to save room for dessert, best choice we made) but many tempted us. KC bone-in strip: THE CRUST. perfection for a strip, the crispiest yummiest crust with amazing flavor. The bone-in filet: so tender, cooked to perfection and the hot plate let me cook my bites a little bit more (my husband likes a bright red center) The crème brûlée corn: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I will dream of this crispy sugar corn goodness. If you get one side this is it. Brussels sprouts: cooked to perfection with the thickest bacon. I want to like Steak 44 better than I do, yet the rude, indifferent service and repeated errors in my orders leave me giving a 3-star review. The first time I dined here and last two times I dined here, I was brought the incorrect meal (not the correct thing prepared wrong but food that I did not order whatsoever), and while the staff recognized that the errors were on their part each time, it's just kind of awkward, especially when you've invited company to join you to dinner for a special occasion and their meal gets screwed up. We didn't get comped anything for the inconvenience either time, and while I don't expect that, I do expect for staff to get things right at some point in time and to be genuinely apologetic when they admittedly mess up orders. Additionally, the atmosphere here just doesn't feel the greatest. When it's busy, it can get obnoxiously loud, and when I'm paying good money for a meal, I'd rather dine somewhere quieter where I can enjoy my meal without feeling like I have to shout across my table so my dining company can hear me. WOW! This is quite possibly the best restaurant I have ever been too! In fact I can't remember a meal that came even close to this spectacular! I was lucky enough to get treated by my employer on a multi-day business trip. We had drinks, appetizers, MEAT! No room for dessert (except for the free cookies they brought out!) For starters I had a sample half dozen oysters that I washed down with a delicious local IPA from Huss. There was a tray of 5 different adornments as well as 2 micro bottles of tobacco sauce to spice things up. That was a hell of a start, the best oysters ever! I ordered the bone in ribeye (22oz) with the black truffle green peppercorn sauce. Perfectly cooked, this steak was fantastic! They dry age the meat and serve it on a fiery hot plate. Then the sides rolled in, I got the creamed spinach which was awesome. Mashed potatoes were great. The corn creme brulee was something remarkable, an obvious culinary genius came up with this one! Oh and seasoned potato wedges!? They were a cross between French fries and chips, so tasty! The service here was another level as well. This place is the real deal. The filet? I cried. Actual tears. It arrived sizzling like it had just walked out of a sauna in Valhalla, wearing nothing but sea salt and confidence. One bite and I was immediately transported into a smoky dreamscape of rendered fat and emotional healing. My fork trembled. The table next to us gasped. Somewhere in the distance, I swear I heard a bald eagle scream "Eileen" I could feel my ancestors cheering me on like, "Yes, Kyle, this is why we survived the plague!" But the real MVP? Ilene I don't know what kind of sorcery she practices, but this woman doesn't wait tables--she conducts symphonies. Next thing I know, I'm being hand-fed scallops that tasted like Poseidon's secret stash. She checked on us like a Michelin-starred general --graceful, timely, with a sixth sense for when my drink got lonely. At one point the chef literally came out of the kitchen to shake her hand. I don't even know what to do with that information. If Ilene told me to eat my steak off a paper napkin in the parking lot, I'd do it, no questions asked--shirtless, weeping, whispering "thank you" between bites. Final word: if you have a pulse, a tongue, and a will to live, go to Steak 44 and ask for Ilene. She doesn't serve dinner. She curates destiny. I just recently read this book called Unreasonable Hospitality. It was about a restaurant's determination to show unreasonable hospitality to it customers. That's how I felt in this restaurant they gave us unreasonable hospitality, everything had a purpose. The waiter was smooth. He was knowledgeable and he saw us and was focused totally on us. I had such a great time celebrating my birthday that I don't have a lot of pictures, but I have to tell you the food was good, every bit of it. This is an expensive restaurant so if you got it like that go as often as if you can, but my family is 'a special occasion' restaurant; easy two people could be like $350. I had a miserable experience at Steak 44 during a private event 9 years ago and vowed to never deal with them again. My experience this evening just reminded me why I should stop punishing myself and just stay away! My friends are celebrating their wedding anniversary tonight and have reservations at Steak 44. I called the restaurant and explained that my friends were dining with them tonight for their wedding anniversary. I said that I would like to surprise them with a nice dessert. The girl told me that they would not be able to accommodate my request because they can't take any payment over the phone. I thought this was a pretty base level request. I mean, even my local pizza place provides better customer service...at least they take credit card payments over the phone! The girl that I spoke with didn't even show any interest in asking me their names. I thought that even though they couldn't accommodate my request that they might be interested in noting the fact that they had customers dining with them this evening celebrating a special event. I've been coming to this steak restaurant for five years, but after my last visit, I won't be returning. The food quality has fallen off a cliff. The appetizers (meatballs) were clearly preheated, not freshly prepared. All of the steaks at our table were undercooked, stewy, and completely flavorless -- nothing like what this place used to serve. Even the sides were preheated. The fries were uninspired and tasted like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp. What happened to this once-great place? The standards have collapsed. And to make matters worse, one of their famous 500-degree plate carrying one of the undercooked steaks was delivered so carelessly by a bus boy that it missed my child's head by an inch. Maybe it was a bad night, but the decline has been obvious on my last few visits. It genuinely feels like this restaurant's best days are behind it -- and that's a shame. read more

We came here last night for an early dinner/late lunch before going to the Awolnation concert at the Marquee. We had reservations for 4pm which is as soon as they open. From the moment you walk in you are warmly greeted. The decor is very sophisticated Chic throughout. It was like a maze when we were taken to our table. Our server, I belive his name is Tomas, was great. He was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the wine we ordered. The whole waitstaff was amazing. Now the food!!! Oh my God (in the Janice from friend's voice) so good!!! I can't stop thinking about how perfectly cooked our steaks were. They came in a burning hot plate, that our server warned us about. So perfectly delicious, so smooth, melt in your mouth with a burst of flavor. Their side dishes are big so definitely shareable, thankfully our server told us about the size. We split a baked potato and Brussel sprouts with bacon. The baked potato was huge! So delicious. We also ordered a bottle of wine which was perfect with our meal. Celebratory evening at Steak 44. Locals know, any restaurant that ends with a 44 is crème de la crème. We ordered 12 oz filets, medium rare. Perhaps a little more rare than expected but delicious nonetheless. Sautéed corn and brussel sprouts for sides. Loved the thick cut bacon in the Brussels. We left a few oz of steak on the plate to bring home which was plenty for 2. When our food was boxed liked we requested, the steak was gone, but sides were packed. Our order was delayed (UPS was the culprit here) BUT we told Steak 44 about it and they said "we will make it right". THREE emails and a week later and not a word!!! So we got $1,400 worth of meat and over 1/2 of it was thawed and leaking when it came in. Again, not their fault it was late but definitely their fault for not reaching out again! The only suggestion I would make is to please disclose the prices when giving the specials so that diners aren't surprised when they get the bill that the steaks they got were $175 each. Don't get me wrong it was probably the best steak we've ever had, but I would have preferred to know the prices upfront to be able to make an educated choice. Partially my fault for not asking. They had a store room and were able to take our carry-on luggage and store it away while we ate(our group consisted of 4 people) The interior was beautiful, and the waitstaff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Our server was Sara B. She had extensive knowledge of the menu and even told us about some offerings that weren't listed. Every step of the way, the staff was extremely attentive, and the food was delicious. The dry aging of the bone in rib really brought out some of the best meaty flavors I've ever tasted. The dry aging process and knowing how to properly cook that large piece of meat was impressive. The sides and deserts were equally delicious and an excellent way to wrap up the meal. Omg 1000/10 from the food to the service! We were celebrating and they had a hand written note on our table! So sweet and thoughtful! We had a reservation and literally waiting about 2 minutes before they took us back. We got to sit in the private room and had 2 waiters that were amazing! We got started with crispy shrimp, chefs hanging bacon and A5 Kobe wine fed. They also bring you bread.The shrimp was the BEST shrimp I've had and it's a big portion! The bacon was amazing. The A5 Kobe literally melted in your mouth. My only complaint would be since it's sliced so thin you have to eat it right away because it gets cold too fast. For the entree I had the petite fillet mignon which was cooked to perfection. My bf got the bone in ribeye. For sides we got the corn crème brûlée. I literally still think about that corn to this day. ITS A MUST TRY!!! We also got the boursin cheese whipped potatoes, the steak knife BLT wedge and a crab cake. We got so much food we had leftovers for the following day! For dessert we went with the warm vanilla caramel cake and chocolate chip cookies. Our service was out of this world, there was a mixup with our left overs being packaged up and we expected a slight discount to our bill and instead they made the entire order again. We had a very good experience at this steakhouse. Being from the Midwest, we have high expectations for our beef. The garlic bread was delicious to start. For those interested, they do have N.A. cocktail options that are not on the menu. The shrimp calamari appetizer was delicious. Loved the multiple sauce options and they were perfectly breaded. We shared the 12oz filet and brussel sprout side. The Brussels were absolutely delicious and fantastic. The steak was perfectly tender, though I could appreciate more of a crust on my meat.
