The quality was there, and everything felt a bit more gourmet than your average coffee shop stop. The brownie was delicious, the coffee was exactly what I wanted, and the overall atmosphere made the price feel justified. Between the free entertainment, the beautiful decor, and the location, it felt like much more than just paying for coffee and dessert. One of the best parts of the experience was the setting. Being right on the water made it especially beautiful at night. You can enjoy your drink, take a walk, look at the lights, and just soak in the scenery. My go-to is the Haraz Latte. Iced. While this could never be my every day coffee, it is something I really enjoy and treat myself to when I'm able to go to a Haraz. As someone who doesn't proclaim to like cheesecake, their Biscoff cheesecake is the exception. Maybe it's a blessing that one isn't close by and I can only indulge every now and then. If you want a break from your regular coffee, give Haraz a shot. Especially when the summer heat kicks in - the iced coffee + cardamom is pretty great. While exploring the many museums across the University of Texas campus, a quick caffeine break was needed for my girlfriend and we were overwhelmed by the number of options on The Drag. It makes sense that there are plenty of places to choose from because of the large number of UT students. Everyone needs a little coffee in their lives. One of the highest reviewed ones with a large pool of ratings was Lucky Lab Coffee and after checking a few quick reviews, we decided to give it a chance. Lucky Lab has five locations in Austin (four on campus) and one location in Dripping Springs. The one we were at off The Drag was their flagship. This location serves a little bit of everything from sandwiches to pastries, salad to quiche, and of course, coffee. As we walked inside the flagship, it is easy to notice how tight the space is. There is very little seating inside at their bar, but they make up for it with plenty of shaded outdoor space that is perfect for a nice day. Scanning their menu, we landed on some drinks from their winter menu. I was intrigued by their Pomegranate Rosemary Latte while my girlfriend tried their Ginger Spice Mocha. We got them both iced. First, it is interesting to see the fusion of pomegranate and rosemary in a latte. I was intrigued by those flavors. Their drink sizes are 12 oz, 16 oz, and 20 oz, each adding an additional 50 cents to each upgrade. All milk alternatives cost 1 dollar. It was only a short wait to get our coffees and the cup with the little lab on it was cute. I think specialty drinks have an opportunity to be amazing and one of a kind or the worst drink imaginable. This pomegranate rosemary latte did not fall into either category exactly, but leaned more toward the latter. I love pomegranates and I always appreciate how earthy rosemary can be in a coffee. One of my favorite lattes I have ever had has rosemary in it. This was just not working for me. I shamefully did not finish my coffee. As for my girlfriend, she did not like her ginger spice mocha. I could not imagine gingerbread syrup not working in a mocha, but after trying it myself it was not for me either. It seems like a perfect match, but here the gingerbread is competing with the chocolate and instead of complementing each other they clash. She told me that the flavors were "un-mocha like". She drank less than half of her coffee before tossing it as well. Neither of us wanted to dislike Lucky Lab. They seem well established and I felt like they were trustworthy based on reviews, but I wonder what these previous reviewers were tweaking on or what magical concoction of coffee granted from heaven above they were sipping on because we were distraught by how disappointing these drinks were. I would like to give Lucky Lab Coffee Co the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe the specialty drinks were not up to par with their traditional beverages. However, the almost 30 different syrup options on their wall make me feel they lack a little focus and try too hard to stand out. They lose what makes a coffee good, which is coffee. I want to say I will give them a second shot in the future to see if it was just an off day or a bad beverage pick. Too many shots turns a Lucky Lab into Old Yeller. They are serious about coffee here. They roast their own coffee beans here. There are several world-famous baristas (ask them about the world competitions they are part of) serving up the brew who are super knowledgeable about coffee and coffee late art. I love when coffee shops have signature drinks. I ordered the Cajeta Crème Brûlée Cappuccino. It was so good, but it came in a small cup. The smoky sea salt was delicious! I don't typically care for sea salt in beverages, but it complimented the flavors so well! I asked the barista to sub oat milk which they were able to do but he informed me that some of the ingredients had dairy (which was fine). I appreciated the disclosure. I was able to drink it without any issues. Because my drink was so small, I decided to order a second one. I went with the Ginger Snap Latte (with oat milk) and it was tasty! I didn't like it as much as the Cajeta Crème Brûlée, but it was really good. I was happy that it was served in a larger cup. The space had plants as well as merch like clothing, scented candles, soaps, and jewelry (which was beautiful).
