This place has great vibes! I ordered a blue moon with 1/2 instead of 1/4 moon milk, made warm instead of hot. First and foremost, they got the temperature perfect! And although the coffee tasted good, I couldn't taste any lavender, which was surprising. So, I ended up asking if I could have some extra lavender syrup, and offered to pay for it. They kindly acquiesced to my request and didn't charge me. The barista added three pumps of lavender syrup to an espresso cup for me to add to my Blue Moon. After adding it, I was able to detect a hint of lavender and noticed a slight uptick in sweetness. Since there was a tiny bit left of the syrup left in the espresso cup, I tasted that which was delicious! Overall, I think this place has great coffee and cane-sugar based syrups. I would suggest that you taste things before you leave though, in case you want to adjust them. There is ample parking and the staff is kind and efficient! read more

I got the 3/4 winter moon latte but honestly could have done the 1/2 or 1/4 winter moon. This is my favorite location out of the ones in Central Austin. Plenty of parking, decently-sized store, indoor and outdoor seating. Summer Moon's whole shtick is their "moon milk," which is basically like their own custom made creamer. It's certainly tasty, but a little will go a long way. I would not get anything more than a 1/4, maaayyybee a 1/2 if you're craving some liquid ice cream. One thing I do appreciate about Summer Moon is that they make some tasty sweet iced lattes. Outside of Starbucks, that's hard to find around this city. Besides their standard and lavender flavors, they also typically come through with their holiday/seasonal crafted drinks. Spacious and LOUD. Summer Moon has locations sprinkled throughout Austin, and it's been a hit or miss for us. Be advised that the drinks tend to be pretty milky and sweet as it is their signature. So if you like strong, dark roasted coffee, you gotta make sure you specify that in your order. Honestly, I typically come here when I want sweet coffee. I ordered an iced chai latte one time and asked for an added shot of espresso but the drink still came out very milky (I promise that's the last time I'll use that word in this review). Anyway, they have a spacious cafe with lots of places to sit, outlets in almost every corner, and great interior design. However, they blast the music and they have a broken speaker where all you hear is the bass bumpin. Not a good vibe especially when you're trying to get some work done or have a conversation. I feel like they do this on purpose to tune out the loud teenagers that come into the shop, but it's really also not good for the people who are trying to study or get some work done. I have loved and been loyal to Summermoon since moving to Austin in 2018. I have downright celebrated their expansion over the years. Today, I am done with Summermoon Westlake. The past year or so, they've become more inconsistent - I go to at least six different locations semi-regularly, three regularly. Sometimes short pours happen. That's life, right?! Not that big a deal. Two weeks ago, I got a *really* short pour. It was at a busy morning hour, they were packed... but it was just too short to let it slip. Busy or not, these drinks are $10 a pop and I wanted my money's worth. The barista immediately acknowledged how short that pour was and went to fix it right away, hardly a word spoken. It was a seamless acknowledgement and action taken. The manager, however, not realizing I could see her, rolled her eyes multiple times and coached the barista on how to add more milk. I emailed customer service and within minutes got an incredible reply: he was disarming, understanding, apologetic and genuinely kind. That exchange alone doubled up my love and loyalty with Summermoon. However, today, the same thing happened, but there was no busy rush of customers and the vibe was low key and slow. I ordered a large matcha with oat milk, with extra matcha. The moment I picked up my drink, it felt too light. I was chatting with a friend, so I figured, it's just one of those days, i can let it go. But then, when I got to my car, I opened it to add my sweetener and saw the top inch of my cup empty. (Note: pictures.) I walked back in to show the barista and she kind of shrugged it off and just said, that's probably because the foam dissipated and that's just the difference. NEVER HAVE I HAD A MATCHA WITH AN INCH OF FOAM SERVED. Not at any summermoon. Not ever. Not to mention, it's a latte and NOT a cappuccino... If Summermoon doesn't know the difference, they probably have no business serving coffee... Even if there was a lot of foam, never has it disappeared so quickly. The second picture is after the foam disappeared and shows exactly how much drink I was served before I even took a sip. (1/3 of the drink was missing.) The thing is, she then said, 'I can froth more milk if you want', but it was said with such mild inconvenience and apathy (after I've already been dismissed by an excuse) that I was genuinely taken aback, mainly because if I've just walked all the way from the parking lot back into your store - IS THAT NOT THE ASK?!? I said no just to get out of there at that point. I imagine if it was her drink, she wouldn't hesitate to make it correctly. I messaged Norman, the same gentleman who had so compassionately responded to my grievance two weeks ago, but he minimally responded by saying they'll 'fix' this but I don't know what exactly that means. Nothing was 'fixed'. The thing is, a simple apology goes a long way. In fact, that's really all it would've taken for me to have walked out being satisfied even though I was objectively shorted on my ten dollar drink. Coffee and matcha are a luxury at this point. I usually enjoy visiting this establishment, but unfortunately, today was a less-than-pleasant experience. I ordered a seasonal drink, the Christmas Cookie Latte (hot). Upon receiving it, I returned to my seat, took a sip, and realized that the lid had not been securely placed on the cup. This resulted in the drink spilling down the front of my shirt. Thankfully, the drink was not hot as I had ordered, so I avoided being burned. Later during my visit, a staff member was cleaning the front doors using Windex. The spray's mist wafted over to where I was seated, and I noticed it had gotten into my mouth and my coffee as well. I would strongly recommend spraying the cleaning solution directly onto a towel rather than onto the glass to avoid exposing customers' food and beverages to cleaning chemicals. read more

I am giving Summer Moon a 2 stars solely because of how they are handling COVID. It's pretty disappointing to give a poor review to one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin, but I think it's important to know that they are not doing their best to make this specific location a safe place to stay or go into. I came to Summer Moon to get some work done, and I sat in the coffee shop for a total of 6 hours. It bothered me that no one was wearing their masks inside. No one enforced this rule, and I even felt self conscious being the only customer sitting in the shop to wear a mask. Workers are protected from customers by a clear screen, and workers are wearing masks. But what are they doing to protect customers from each other? I realized the answer to this question is, "Nothing." They may be doing something behind the counter by sanitizing cups or something else, but I never once saw a worker wipe down a table or chair when a customer left. I believe I was the only person to sit in the shop for that long, and I saw many people come in and out. If you are the manager of Summer Moon, I really hope that you can take more precautions given that coffee shops are hot spots for infection. There will be people who go to coffee shops to be productive, and it's really disappointing to see that there's nothing being done to protect those who are giving you business. read more

Met a friend at Summer Moon Westlake yesterday and was delighted with my experience there! The place is conveniently located at Bee Cave and Walsh Tarleton, near the Post Office. There's plenty of parking, and plenty of seating both inside and outside. It was pretty hot, so my friend and I sat inside at a cute table for two after we ordered our drinks. Her iced coffee was ready right away, and I only had to wait a few minutes for my Steamer, which was a little light on the syrup, but yummy anyway. I've been to Summer Moon twice and wish one was closer to home. I've had their Vanilla Moon Latte and Mocha Moon Latte (both iced) and they were fantastic (if you like sweet, of course). The line took a bit of time but that's to be expected when you're at a popular place. Lots of places to sit inside and out. I would say it mayyyy be a tad bit too sweet for some folks and is more milky than coffee but there is also the Half Wintermoon version which is half Moon Milk instead of 75%. If you have a sensitive stomach like me get ready to stay away from the winter moon OR blow it up 15 mins after sippin on the drink then having to toss it shortly after. And I'm not even lactose intolerant! I got the 1/2 winter moon and this is more heavy cream then anything else. It doesn't have as much flavor both in the cream or the said espresso in it. The heavy cream and skim milk do not blend at all and sit separately in the drink with every sip. I'm sad this signature drink was not it because this place has so many interesting seasonal flavors but they use the same cream in every drink. The service is just alright. They get your order, make your drink, and try to ignore you at the drink station but not in a malicious way. They just seem to really like talking and hanging out with each other which is fine. read more

This Summer Moon used to be one of my favorite places to get coffee/study in Austin and I previously left a 5-star review, but I'm extremely, extremely disappointed at the way it seemed like COVID didn't exist when I last went. Very few guidelines were being followed, especially by customers, and it is a very unsafe environment, especially if you are at-risk. I would strongly urge anyone considering making a visit to PLEASE choose a different coffee shop and I am really mad at myself for giving a place like this business.
