This is a fun restaurant to try some Asian food! They have a lot to look through on the menu and also some living seafood in tanks. I really liked the shrimp packed cilantro shrimp dim sum dumplings, definitely would get those again. Also really liked the hot braised string bean that has just some bits of meat in it. Seems like it should be less expensive being mostly vegetables, but anyway I would get that again, as well. The fried smelt appetizer was huge and with the head + tail, you must love super seafoody seafood, lol. Better shared, it's a lot of fish for one person. This place is more authentic than the Americanized places, so you have to be an adventurous eater! If status quo is your thing, there's plenty of those same-same what your used to places around for ya!

A friend and I went on a Saturday for lunch, and it was packed. Tip: apparently you can add yourself to the queue online while you're on your way, so you don't have to wait as long! We didn't have a super long wait though, maybe 15min They rolled around carts filled with food, and you pointed out what you wanted. It was really good! One note if this is not something you're used to... they will at times just hand you dishes you didn't ask for, so be prepared to push back sometimes if you aren't interested in a dish My notes on the dishes I tried (honestly these notes are mostly for me for the next time I go back!): -Calamari - these were super dry, crunchy, and salty - in a delicious way. I loved them. They were almost like salad topping-level crunchy. Delicious. -Turnip cakes - there are two versions, the solid squares, and cut up bites. the cut up bites are quite spicy. So if you are like me and not into heat, make sure you get the squares! -Greens (broccolini?) with a brown sauce - yummy -Cucumber salad - delicious, a little bit of heat but not bad -Shrimp balls - better than I expected - I expected the texture inside to be soft, but it really has some bite to it, like shrimp should! Yum -Chicken bao dumplings - very good (though I've heard the pork is better) -Leek dumplings - not bad, but not as good as many other things -Congee - not bad, but not super exciting -sticky rice with chicken in a banana leaf - good! want to try again -Pork with red sauce - I was too full to try this but brought home leftovers, will update -Duck with brown sauce - I was too full to try this but brought home leftovers, will update -Shumai (pork and shrimp) - I was too full to try this but brought home leftovers, will update -Cilantro dumplings - I was too full to try this but brought home leftovers, will update -Rice paper wrapped around a pastry with scallions - they called it "chinese donut" - was not a fan Desserts: -Pineapple bun - amazing -Taro bun - best thing I've ever eaten in my life -Coconut bun - not for me, but not bad -Egg tart - a solid egg tart, but I'd rather have the pineapple and taro buns Drink -Flower tea - honestly i was not impressed at first, when it was hot - I almost asked for some sort of sweetener. But by the end of the meal, when I was full and the tea was cooled off a bit, I loved it! It had a nice subtle flavor that was great even with how full I was

Before heading to the airport to go home we couldn't leave Denver without my sister-in-laws favorite place for lunch Star Kitchen. Apparently we weren't the only ones interested in authentic dim sum and other amazing dishes, the Broncos were at home so alot of Broncos and Ravens fans dining before kick off. There was a wait but have to say it was well worth it. The staff is a well oiled machine, it was like going to a smorgasbord without getting up, every cart had different hot items and plenty of it. What a menu, fish dishes, dumpling dishes, vegetable dishes, steamed buns, won ton, dumplings, duck, tripe and a fabulous dessert items including ginger sponge cake. The food just keeps coming so go there hungry, because nothing disappointing came to our table it was all so delicious. The room had TV's so we were able to follow the morning NFL while enjoying a fantastic lunch, plenty of seating in a nicely decorated room. I could not keep up with the photos because my sister-in-law kept ordering off each cart that rolled by our table, every bite was a culinary delight. This is a must try place whether you live in Denver or visit as we do a lot with so much family living in the surrounding area. We will be back Star Kitchen because I believe we just tried the tip of the iceberg. Delizioso e tutti! Mangiamo e Bon appetitto!

Authentic dimsum place. They push several carts around and ask if you want anything. I really enjoyed the open face shrimp/lobster dimsum. Everything else tasted similar. Soup dumplings were not good. Each one was popped, no soup. Pricier side of dimsum.

A rare find in the city. I was surprised by the size of their siumai and har gow (crystal shrimp dumplings). They're about a mouthful. This place gets packed. Definitely get there early otherwise you'll have to wait in line until your number is called. It's a cozy little restaurant with pushcart dimsum. Staff were very efficient. If you can speak Chinese or Cantonese, that would help. Otherwise, they do speak English as well. Overall food was delicious!

Star kitchen is one of my favorite places to go when I'm hungover. They are always super busy on the weekends, especially on Sunday but we always use the online waitlist to make sure our table is ready once we arrive. We ended up ordering the usuals, like xiu mai, chicken feet, shrimp rice rolls, and more and star kitchen is always consistently good. One new thing we ordered this time was the Peking duck and it was pretty good, we loved the soft bao buns that come with it. This is for sure my favorite dim sum restaurant in Colorado and I always have a great time here and the servers are always so funny.

This was the first and only dim sum restaurant I tried in Denver before I was hooked. I've been coming here for years! Honestly, I think it's underrated and could complete with some well respected spots! It did take a couple of visits to figure out what I like here, and the best method for getting a large group in on the weekend. I usually make it my goal to get in here in the first wave - show up before 10 am! I'd much rather wait in line before they open than wait for people to finish eating...This time my friends and I came at 1:30 pm on a Saturday and we got a table easily, which was a little surprising! The service is fine, but I don't come here for the hospitality. It's a fast-paced environment and I come here knowing that I'm here for the food. I can see how it could be overwhelming for the first time, and I think the food is enough of an incentive to get to the other side of that! Egg tarts, cilantro shrimp dumplings, the taro bun, the pan fried rice crepe, and the fried noodles are some of my favorites.

Still a huge fan after all these years! And they've implemented an online waitlist so gone are the days waiting in the parking lot for an hour for dim sum. There's also a self service kiosk to place yourself on the waitlist as well, making getting a table much more efficient. This is still the best place to get dim sum in Denver. Prices have gone up in the last few years, but still won't break the bank. Still a go to place for dinner for my family and friends. The portions are family style and meant to be shared so they're a good size. If you're looking for recommendations, here is my usual order: Crab meat and fish maw soup Salt and Pepper Squid Salty fish and chicken fried rice (or one of the noodle options) Lobster with Ginger and Scallion Sauce (buy 1 get one free!) Peking Duck Honey Walnut Shrimp French Style Filet Cubes Pea Spout Leaves in Garlic Sauce Salt and Pepper Tofu And ... my family likes to get a whole fish. I skip this with my friends. I know Asian food in an establishment like this can be a little scary so my recommendations if you (or your dining partner) is hesitant: French Style Filet Cubes: basically a cut up steak Barbecue Pork Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings, Tofu or Pork Chop Steamed Chicken w/ Ginger & Scallion Sesame Chicken Steamed crab or lobster (no butter though!) Most of the noodle or fried rice dishes The service really depends on how you interact with your server. When I'm with my family they know we're there to eat and interaction is a minimal. If I'm with my friends, they're fun and cracking jokes and a good time. The space has gone through some renovations but it still is pretty normal Chinese restaurant, nothing fancy or nice.

Are they still shouting out numbers on the loud speaker throughout out the restaurant?

    Yes.

We have family coming into town; I want to take them here, but I also have a 2-month old so timing is important around naps. Are the lines for lunch long during the weekday lunches? Do they serve dim sum on carts during lunch on the weekdays? Thx

They are closed on Wednesdays. Lines for lunch on weekends can be like weekends if it is a holiday, but in general the lines are much better on weekdays. Longest I have waited was 20-30 minutes on a weekday but up to 60-70 minutes on a weekend.… Read more

Do they serve dim sum during the week or is it only on the weekends?

During lunch all week and weekends

Are dim sum carts out all day? I'd like to go after 5pm sometime and share the experience with someone who's never tried. I've only ever gone for brunch/lunch

No. Dim sum is only served during lunch unfortunately.

Does anyone know if they are open on Christmas? No one is answering the phone. Thanks!

No, they are home enjoying their families. Also, no one ever answers the phones.

Will they be open Christmas Eve/Day?

No, they are home enjoying their families like they should be

Are they still operating dim sum carts?

Yes! I was there about a month ago and they had the carts out.

Are they offering dimsum as available for takeout?

Yes they are! Order directly and pay directly on their website!

Do they serve dim sum for take out now?

Yes they do, you have to call to place order, and go pick it up

    Is the dim sum pricy?

It's not cheap but not super pricey either ... however the Dim Sum itself is really really good and gets super busy

Hey guys, is star kitchen closed for renovations still?…

they closed? I was there yesterday 7/30/2018

How long is the wait usually on a Saturday morning for a group of 10?

Well that depends...the line begins forming 30-45 minutes before opening. If you aren't there early, the wait, especially for a large party could take awhile as there aren't many tables that seat 10. In fact, at opening they will use those large… Read more

Can you just do take out?

Yes! Have done take out when the weekend seating was too overwhelming.

Is this byob? If not, any byob recommendations?

There are no bring your own booze restaurants in Colorado. It is illegal and restaurants could lose their license.

How late is dim sum served?

It is served until 2p daily. But you want to be seated by 1p.

I am going with one other person. Can I enjoy the Dim Sum if she prefers to order her own dish or do we need to both have dim sum? Also, how long of a wait do you think it would be for 2 people on Christmas Monday at 11am?

We have gone on a Sunday for Dim Sum and were able to still order certain things off the menu.

Can Star Kitchen or the dim sum here be gluten-free? I have friends with severe celiac disease, and would like to take them here.

    Nope!
