This place used to be the classic on dim sum, but the food seemed to be very generic now. XLB or soup dumplings is always the classic for most dim sum or Taiwanese eateries. Here unfortunately looks to be pre made by some factory somewhere and not freshly made? From picture, you can see the skin stick to the tin container and thus the soup has all leaked out. The beef with flat noodles was also a bit disappointing in that the beef has no texture as in they used too much baking soda in overly tenderizing the meat. The noodles also seemed thinner than the ones I'm more used to back home in Texas. Came here with my friend who I haven't seen in 10 years for dimsum right as they opened on a Saturday and 22 parties were already ahead of us in the queue but 16 parties were already seated by then. Luckily we were accommodated in the first round as well and even when we left, the restaurant was not full. The dimsum ladies came around in carts and we order what we like. Today my least favorites were the siumai (firm and not seasoned well), chicken feet (bland), and the tripe (very tender but lacking in flavor and the radish was a bit smelly). Any of their shrimp dimsum seem to have full plump shrimps including the steam shrimp and chives dumpling that normally is chopped coarsely. I really liked the shrimp packed cilantro shrimp dim sum dumplings, definitely would get those again. Also really liked the hot braised string bean that has just some bits of meat in it. Every so often I just think about this place and how I wish we spent more time in Denver. This was hands down my favorite meal in Denver. Everything was so good and I wish we had more people so we could have tried other dishes on the menu. This place certainly hustles and they do a great job at everything. Very similar to what you would experience in Hong Kong and/or Taiwan's Din Tai Fun. The server was nice,attentive and funny he even gave us some taro sweet porridge for desert and those was also very good. Not bad on the price after all that food because here in Vegas it would have cost us more so I was really surprised. It is an older building so it's not upscale or anything but expect good food. I have eaten here twice now and it is exactly what I want from a dim sum restaurant! Most recently I came here for a Saturday brunch, be sure to arrive 10 minutes before they open or so to get a table, that first wave of people will already be ready and will fill up the entire restaurant. On these days, we only pull dishes from the cart, never really ordering from the menu. There are a few home, run plates and a couple I could pass on, with the barbecue pork buns, putting a delicious, savory texture and flavor, with the sauce cooked in, versus the regular pork buns are a little more dry and have no sauce. The soup dumplings are also so good, along with the rice cakes, the Ube, sesame, desserts, the duck, steamed the shrimp buns and more. You really have to go for yourself and be willing to try things, I didn't love the duck feet (I think that's what it was?) but you have to at least try it. Always make sure to bring a huge appetite! We were surprised when we came in for lunch on a Monday, and they were hoppin' & bustlin', busy as can be. Usually this kind of busyness for Chinese/dimsum restaurants in other cities is reserved for weekends. Maybe only a couple tables were empty. We were lucky to get a good table in the middle of the room. The staff is "authentic" Chinese/Cantonese, they all speak the language. We got Chrysanthemum Tea and asked for Yellow Mustard (黄芥末), nothing was a problem (sometimes dimsum waiters have no idea what yellow mustard is). We did dimsum only (did not order off menu), and EVERYTHING was great. We love all their steamed dishes, everything was fresh and delicious. Before heading to the airport to go home we couldn't leave Denver without my sister-in-laws favorite place for lunch Star Kitchen. Apparently we weren't the only ones interested in authentic dim sum and other amazing dishes, the Broncos were at home so alot of Broncos and Ravens fans dining before kick off. There was a wait but have to say it was well worth it. The staff is a well oiled machine, it was like going to a smorgasbord without getting up, every cart had different hot items and plenty of it. What a menu, fish dishes, dumpling dishes, vegetable dishes, steamed buns, won ton, dumplings, duck, tripe and a fabulous dessert items including ginger sponge cake. The food just keeps coming so go there hungry, because nothing disappointing came to our table it was all so delicious. The room had TV's so we were able to follow the morning NFL while enjoying a fantastic lunch, plenty of seating in a nicely decorated room. I could not keep up with the photos because my sister-in-law kept ordering off each cart that rolled by our table, every bite was a culinary delight. They are always super busy on the weekends, especially on Sunday but we always use the online waitlist to make sure our table is ready once we arrive. Still a huge fan after all these years! And they've implemented an online waitlist so gone are the days waiting in the parking lot for an hour for dim sum. There's also a self service kiosk to place yourself on the waitlist as well, making getting a table much more efficient. This is still the best place to get dim sum in Denver. Prices have gone up in the last few years, but still won't break the bank. Still a go to place for dinner for my family and friends. The portions are family style and meant to be shared so they're a good size. Star Kitchen is an institution in Denver, and I was thrilled to explore it with some of my more food adventurous friends. A few notes, if you're going on the weekend, definitely be prepared to wait or come early. They have instituted an electronic system though now to 'get in line' prior to open, and that actually made it much easier to manage. We got the first seating and went to town. There are a million items to select from, and in the chaos of it all, you'll feel pressure to say yes to every cart, but it helps to be a little judicious. I gave up on photos at a certain point, just given the sheer overwhelm of it all, and some of us hit stomach capacity a little earlier than intended. This wasn't my first dim sum rodeo, and yet it got the better of us. Ha. I was probably most excited by the shumai, cilantro dumplings, and sesame balls...Yum! (we got two types--one red bean, one egg as I recall). The BBQ pork buns were good, but perhaps too filling all things considered, and the duck we had was a bit too brothy/chewy. I've been here a couple times now (11am and 1pm on a weekend) and my experience has been that the steamed dishes which come out covered are warm, but many dishes that circulates uncovered are room temperature or barely warm. Fried taro balls are usually my favorite dim sum dish but not when they are cold. Service and ambiance are what you'd expect from an authentic Chinese place in this neighborhood which doesn't bother me.
