Really authentic Hong Kong food. Was most excited about the pan fried noodles and they did not disappoint. Perfect combo of crispy and saucy, with loads of veggies and seafood. Best to be eaten right away otherwise it gets soggy. The peiking duck was a little fatty but can't complain given the crispy skin and just being able to experience this in Denver, where it's rare to get real Chinese food. The Bao is super fluffy as well.
We were missing Asian food during this trip to Colorado and we were going to get dim sum in this plaza but the line was too long. We walked and saw this and I'm so glad we ordered here. It's one of the top Cantonese spots for me for sure. You can tell everything is handmade and our waitress spoke Mandarin, Cantonese and English. At one point in time, she was having a conversation with all three languages with our group. It was clean and neat inside. If you pay cash, you get a discount. They made the zongzi in house and the staff was proud to tell me all about it and told me to come back to try more dishes. I loved my salty fish fried rice, the fish pieces were so flavorful and yummy. The servings are huge for the price point. We all enjoyed our food and I wish I lived closer to come here more often. We shared dishes amongst six people and for the pride, there were leftovers too.
Service: Nice & fast. I felt well taken care of even though I noticed we have only one server for the whole restaurant. Food: The half roasted duck is on skinny meat portion. I can't find much meat on it. Crispy pork is crunchy & tasty. It came with very similar to hoisin sauce. We love pepper streak. Not chewy and delicious. Must try! My favorite is pork & preserved egg congee. Rice is well blended. Pork is soft & tasty. Added a Chinese fried dough really made me nostalgia about my childhood congee. Ambiance: Basic atmosphere, not fancy but functionality well. The bathroom though, if you want to flush the toilet. The push button located in the center of the black pump lol It took me couples mins to figure how to flush the restroom. Summary: If you like Chinese bbq, with basic flare & atmosphere. Good foods & reasonable price!
This is a quite authentic Chinese restaurant that offer both Cantonese and Sichuan cuisines. The foods are reasonably priced and they come with white rice. The service a little minimum as they don't really come check on us much after getting us foods. The dining area is clean but I wish they have more seatings as they can get crowded
Wowza! I ended up at Hong Kong BBQ with a friend a few weeks ago, after waiting unsuccessfully to get into Lao Wang Noodle House before it closed. So that said, we came close to closing, were freezing, and too hungry to think straight. We ordered a bunch of items from the menu, and the food started rolling in quickly. The Roast Duck (half) kicked things off; it was moist and delicious, albeit a little hard to navigate with plastic chopsticks, but this was not the time for such formalities--we were ravenous. Next came the Gai Lan with Garlic. While simple, it was exceptionally flavorful. Tons of great garlic sauce that we practically lapped up. That said the Yushan Eggplant with Pork was the hands down favorite of the evening. We could not get enough of it, and it featured some springy wood ear mushrooms which provided a great textural contrast with the silky eggplant. Finally, we capped things off with the Salt & Pepper Shrimp. They were nicely crisped and well seasoned. I think next time I would opt for the squid or fish instead; the shrimp was great, but I can't stomach too many shell-on shrimp. It was a veritable feast, and we had lots of leftovers to take home. This was the happiest impromptu dinner I've had in a very long time. Will definitely be back!
This spot is not far from me but I had only gotten take out once long ago and it wasn't great- thank goodness things are so much better this visit! The low mein with bbq pork is the noodle dish I dream about- not your standard lo mein- these are hong kong style noodles with the BEST CHEW. Flavorful, friendly and comfort at its best!
I enjoyed most of the food we tasted here. The congee, pork, and beef were all very tasty. The duck was definitely a miss which was unfortunate because that was the main dish that they advertised. It lacked in texture/flavour, wasn't too crispy, and didn't have much meat (mostly bone). Besides this, service was great, and we left home with lots and lots of leftovers.
I had the craving for Chinese food in Denver and I found this area southwest of downtown that had lots of ethnic restaurants and shops. Based on the Yelp reviews, I picked Hong Kong Barbecue for an early dinner meal. The restaurant wa in a strip mall on South Federal and there was plenty of parking.s By the time we arrived, they only had BBQ duck and White Steamed chicken in the barbecue section, so we got one plate of the white cut up chicken and a plate of the beef with ginger and scallions. The food was really good, but the beef dish was very salty. The staff was nice and friendly. Next time I will try to arrive by lunch so I can get my hands on some Char Siu or Crispy pork....LOL....
As someone that is deprived of good chinese food, I am always in the search for a solid restaurant that serves authentic Chinese dishes. I initially went to HK BBQ to pick up some cha siu but decided to try their actually Chinese dishes. (I still did togo some Cha Siu, but a good practice is to call prior because they have limited availability and the times they are ready can be different. Also, their Cha Siu is pretty solid. It is on the sweeter side than what I am used to but the carmelization glistens the pork and with a nice hot bowl of fresh cooked rice and with some steamed bokchoi.. I am drooling thinking about it) Going back to the new dishes I tried 1. Twice cooked pork is a dish that I often seek every time I visit California and I think I found something comparable. The pork is perfectly cooked and with the combination of the veggies and the black bean sauce- it makes you want to get a second or third serving of rice to consume more. There is a korean saying, it's a rice theif (밥 도둑) which ultimately means its so good that you eat so much rice, it's like you're a rice their. I will definitely return for more of this dish 2. Green beans with xo sauce is always a solid veggie dish you can get in many Chinese restaurants. I will say compared to some of the green bean dishes in some Chinese restaurants in Colorado, it isn't as oily, which I like. 3. Salted fish clay pot with egg plant and chicken This dish was slightly underwhelming because I couldn't really taste the salted fish. But outside of that, it is still good. The service is really good and the owners are always willing to share their recommendations
The food was good, the crispy pork was the best. Service was a bit slow for Friday lunch, one person taking orders, one chopping the meats and I think 2 in the kitchen. We waiting 15-20 after placing the order for the food before we received the first dish (rice one). The beef soup came 5 mins later One of the two soups came out after another 5 minutes.
Came back for weekend lunch after a big hike: - friendly service as always - roasted duck was delicious - today's MVP was the Singapore rice noodles with pork on top. The curry flavor was awesome and not overpowering. Plenty of onions and bean sprouts to add richness of texture. Noodles was stir fried to the perfect texture - macau roasted Pork was underwhelming. Not much flavor and the crispy fried skin all fell from the meat - shrimp wonton soup was satisfying too. Makes a warm soup on a chill day. Decent portion Overall I was very happy with the food I got under $50. There were two of us and plenty of leftovers

I don't think they get the hype they truly deserve. This spot has the BEST roast duck I've ever had, and trust me, I've had my fair share all over the Bay Area. We opted for a 3 item bbq plate - roast duck, roast pork and bbq pork (char siu). The bbq pork was fine, nothing special but the highlight was the roast duck and pork. The skin on the duck is still crispy, and had a good ratio of fat to meat and bones. Some places make it with a strong star anise flavor, but HKB does not. The flavor on the duck is sooo good and not too salty. The roast pork was juicy and the skin super crunchy! They gave a solid portion too. I'd spend my $20 on this any day! The 2 item and 3 item bbq options are on a separate lunch menu, but I'm not sure if it's offered daily or just weekdays. The rice plates come with some steamed chinese broccoli and a big scoop of rice. They also provide the bbq with a little dipping sauce. It pairs well with the greens, but is a tad bit salty so use sparingly. We also ordered beef chow fun, dry style. The beef slices are tender, the chow fun has that good wok hei flavor, nice and smoky. I do wish the noodles were a tad bit wider but overall, very solid dish. Sesame balls look/taste like the pre made frozen kind. It had a good chew, solid red bean filling and you get a ton for $5. The service here is nice and friendly. They give you giant cups of water and will check on you to refill it as well. It's in a plaza, lots of shared parking spaces and they do take CC for payment. I am devastated that my now favorite HK BBQ is not in California, but if anyone asks me where to eat in Denver, this spot is going to be my #1 recommendation. read more

Food was delicious, staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer recommendations as well. Came a little too late and missed out on the roast pork but was able to grab the rest of The bbq pork they had left. The restaurant is very clean, well kept and not too loud. Picked up food to go but when the kids are a little less restless will definitely dine in next time. Also need to come early enough to get the roast pork. Highly recommend if your around the Federal area. read more
HK BBQ still has the best salt and pepper pork chops. They get so busy at times you gotta be patient with the wait staff, I always receive great service here, it helps to speak Chinese. The restroom is clean and the restaurant is too. No frills, simple decor but definitely has the best HK dishes in Denver. We sometimes order 2 orders of the pork chops to eat there and one more to go. Highly recommend the salt and pepper pork chop in addition to their staple roast duck and pork. read more

What a find! This little restaurant in a strip mall has one of the best roast ducks that I've had. The salt and pepper squid also was delicious. The breading was crispy but not greasy. We ordered mushrooms with vegetables and the vegetables were cooked perfectly - not overdone but tender enough. Service is good - food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Portion size is good. The beef was super tender and I like the fact that they gave a lot of Choy Sum! Really wished they had Roast Pork but they were still cooking it by the time we got our food. Overall I like the meats super tender and flavorful! Soup base for my noodles could use a bit more seasoning. Service was good and everything came out within a timely manner! read more

I believe Hong Kong Barbecue is under new ownership. The restaurant as a whole looks very different from the last time I dined in - which was a while ago. The menu was smaller than the previous owners but each item we ordered was delicious. There's this term Chinese people used called "wok-hei" and when you take a bite out of the noodles or the beef dishes, you can taste it like the breath of a wok. It's this flavor that's unexplainable but when you taste it, you'll know what I mean. We came on a Thursday night so maybe things are not as in stock as the weekends. The beef dish that we ordered said it would be in a clay pot but that was not the case. The only bbq dish available was the roast duck. They were out of the chicken, bbq pork, and roast pork by 6pm. Otherwise, this was good. And I'll be back. read more

So this was my second time coming here. The first was when I had my parents come visit and we wanted some roast pork and duck. Those were delicious. This time around, I ordered the Wonnton Soup, Dry Style Beef Chao Fun, and Sesame Balls. Amazing. Tastes just as authentic as home cooking. I enjoy the taste of each dish. Only complaint would be the Chao Fun was a bit saltier than I would like it and the Sesame Balls were more chewy than usual. Price could be a bit more lenient, but for the quality of food, I think its worth it. Overall, great place to get your chinese cuisine fix. As it won't beat places with actual authentic asian food (LA, NYC, etc.), I believe this is one of Denvers best. read more

Went in with pretty high expectations since I've heard countless good things about this place. We arrived shortly after they opened, so the BBQ pork and roasted pork weren't ready yet, unless we wanted to wait for another 30 mins to 1 hour. We ended up ordering wonton noodle soup and duck with flat rice noodle. Wonton was plump and delicious, and the broth was bland and underwhelming. Duck chow fun was tasty and hit the spot, though! The restaurant was bright and clean. Overall, I'll come back to try other dishes, but prob have to lower my expectations a little bit. read more

How is there not a line out of the door for this place? I came here once before and it was good. However, tonight's experience was INCREDIBLE! You wait a bit for the food (which the waitress told me to set the expectation) and I'm good waiting for quality food. They don't just prepare some meats ahead of time and then quickly reheat when it's ordered. This is a make-to-order place and you will taste the difference. Everything had such good flavor and I can't wait to come back and try more items. 10/10 would definitely recommend! read more
One of my favorite restaurants in Denver. I've been going here for years now and it never disappoints. The staff are pleasant. The inside is fairly clean. No frills but just basic tables and chairs. Food comes out freshly prepared and hot. My favorites are the wonton noodle soup, barbecue pork, salt and pepper fish and the seafood clay pot. All are tasty and delicious. Price is reasonable. This is a solid spot for HK style Chinese cuisine. read more

Found a local small business that we hadn't tried before, decently close by. Friendly service, fast and affordable. We ordered roasted duck with Chinese broccoli and rice. The duck had a great flavor, made our kitchen smell heavenly and the broccoli was really well made and flavorful. Win win for us and glad to be supporting local. COVID precautions in place. Order and pick up at entrance door. Menus and suggestions at the door made the process fast and painless. We'll be back! read more

I was told there is a new owner here and my parents were a little apprehensive about it, but I still heard great things about this place so we decided to try it. My favorite thing was the wok hei in the dishes. That smoky flavor in my stir fry was so prominent in the dishes we ordered compared to any other place I've been to, which is amazing. Don't know how they did that but it's amazing. I still got my favorite beef noodles and we ordered a sizzling plate dish but it didn't come with a sizzling plate. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would love to try more items on the menu. read more

Hong Kong Barbecue is an established restaurant with a great selection of dishes. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a wonderful aroma of roasted duck and bbq pork. Their steamed chicken with yummy ginger sauce and salt and pepper fish were delicious. The eggplant with pork had a perfect balance of heat and savory; the serving size of the pea pots with garlic was generous; and the flavorful chicken clay pot came out piping hot. Next time we'll preorder the chicken and mushroom clay pot, which takes an hour to cook. read more
