Roast Duck (half) Roast Pork Steamed Dumplings (6)

Empress is our favorite spot to go to for authentic Chinese cuisine. New fusion & modern spots are good but sometimes you just need the OG thing. Didn't take many photos but our favorites to order are the pork & chive, shrimp & chive, shu mai, roast duck, and Chinese broccoli. The fried noodles and pork belly were also good. There are many carts that rotate around but they also have a menu to order from, and one that has pictures for easy ordering. Parking is very small out front and there seemed to be only 1 handicap spot. Inside there are many tables that can hold big families of 6.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! reasonable price for dim sum, the atmosphere really felt like a traditional dim sum restaurant which i feel like is a dying art nowadays (the carts, the hanging ducks, etc.). they were setting up for a wedding party when we went, and the workers were very nice and apologetic about it (even though it wasnt a problem for us at all!) i wasnt expecting a dim sum spot in denver to blow all my expectations out of the water, especially since i think living in socal has completely spoiled me in that regard, but this place was great!!! i need to come back to try their roast pork!!!

What a wonderful and fast experience for Dim Sum! They just added a ton of new items to the menu like chicken shui mai and taro buns! The servers were so helpful in picking out our items! The ambiance was relaxed and homey which is perfect for families. Highly recommend going at open since the restaurant becomes packed shortly after. We will be going back!

Stopped by on a Sunday @3pm so it was pretty quiet. At first, staff was great- attentive, helpful, and friendly. Ordered 6 dim sum dished that were all good. But then the same old Chinese restaurant behavior appeared: the staff started having their meal and service prep right in the front dining area. We were done with our meal, so I was hesitant about interrupting their meal. Took a while sitting there cross-armed before someone noticed. Feeling bad about interrupting their meal was the only low point in an otherwise good meal and experience.

It has been a few months since dining at the Empress Seafood Restaurant last time. Quite a transformation for this local staple. Besides painting the awning more eye catching yellow from green, they also upgraded the ceiling and walls inside the restaurant, nothing major, but improved the ambience and functionality of the space quite a bit. The restaurant also hired a new chef with many new Cantonese, especially Taishan, dishes, not commonly seen in town. With these changes and addition, it certainly moved up from my pecking order of favorite local Chinese restaurants. Too bad for to me found all these surprising changes when I went alone for a quick lunch, need to go back with more people to try some of the new dishes next time. Here are their char siu rice noodle rolls, preserved egg and pork congee, chicken feet in bean sauce and the new dim sum item, rabbit shaped coconut milk pudding.

Pretty solid dim sum place. Lost pictures but here are the leftovers! Very good selection and variety if you have a few people joining. Plenty of parking and they have their own lot. Came in right after the carts went away but they serve dim sum all day off the menu. Ordered quite a bit as you always do with dim sum but cannot go wrong! Some items are okay but most are pretty solid. I like this place better than Star Kitchen! Service was clean, older restaurant, and not the cleanest

If you want cart based dim sum in a restaurant with no frills that reminds you of the traditional dim sum houses in China then this is one of the top spots in Denver to come to. They wheel around your traditional dim sum carts with the basics. Everything is fresh and tasty as would be expected from an establishment like this, and I would choose this one over the competing ones based on consistent quality.

Adding an update after recently placing a to-go order of dim sum for 30 people. I went in person to pick up a menu then called about two weeks in advance to place the order. They were super helpful with confirming whether I'd ordered enough food and were happy to arrange pick up time to be when they opened. Everything was neatly packaged and they even proactively helped load them in the car. Would definitely order from them again!

4.5 stars! We travel over 25 min for dim sum at Empress. We've only gotten dishes from the dim sum carts, so this review is specifically about that. Dishes I won't list all the dishes we got because the beauty of dim sum is the extremely wide variety of things you can eat in one sitting. All the standard dim sum fare is great - shumai, bbq pork buns, har gow, radish cake, etc. I have to give a specific shoutout to their stir fried rice noodle rolls - wow they make it so delicious, cooked perfectly, and not too salty. Service Almost all of our interactions were very pleasant. Carts started rolling by within minutes of sitting down and they were great at offering recommendations to get us started. This is super helpful for folks not familiar with the offerings. I have to knock down to 4.5 because the service can be a bit persistent at times. We need to repeat ourselves that we don't want a dish, sometimes more than 2 times before they move on. Space The restaurant has so much space. Despite dining at lunch on a weekend, there was lots of space not just for seating (we had no wait), but for the carts to move around without interfering with our space.

Federal Blvd is home to a host of great, local Asian restaurants, especially dim sum. If you're in the mood for dim sum, check out Empress! The service is quick, food is fresh, and prices are reasonable. Some of my favorites include: pork shumai, steamed bbq buns, any of the shrimp dumplings, shrimp rolled noodle, turnip cakes, and sticky rice. Some dumplings they'll even fry up right in front of you! Dim sum and a show? There's nothing better.

Ah I always crave a good Cantonese Style dinner and this meal was delicious! We ordered all our favorite go to dishes: Ginger Scallion Crab, Green Beans with Pork, Roast Duck, Cantonese Style Chow Mein, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, and Potstickers! I enjoyed the Green Beans dish. I was so excited to see chung choy in it, which added to the flavor profile. The combination Chow Mein was perfectly crispy with plentiful amounts of tender meat and veggies. Ginger Scallion Crab and Shrimp with Lobster sauce was what we expected and executed well. Some of the end pieces of duck were a bit salty but overall was very good. I'd love to try the Peking Duck next time with the buns and the crispy roast pork. I felt the cost of the food was very reasonable with the amount of food given. I love the fact that you can order dim sum at any time. But makes it hard to choose what to order because everything sounds good. The servers were so nice and had very fun personalities, always with a smile on their faces. They made our meal really enjoyable and did a fairly good job keeping our water cups filled. The restaurant was spacious and appeared tidy. We went there on a Saturday night and there were people setting up for likely a wedding event. I'm sure Empress is a place where many Asians have their reception meals and events. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy and was happy to see that they had their own parking lot. We were only visiting, but we'll definitely be back to try more items in the future and would recommend others to give it a try!

Here unfortunately looks to be pre made by some factory somewhere and not freshly made? From picture, you can see the skin stick to the tin container and thus the soup has all leaked out. The beef with flat noodles was also a bit disappointing in that the beef has no texture as in they used too much baking soda in overly tenderizing the meat. The noodles also seemed thinner than the ones I'm more used to back home in Texas. Overall, it was just an ok place, which was a disappointment since I drove my mom from ft collins just to have some dim sum with here for the weekend I'm here visiting.

The staff was super friendly, knowledgeable, and helped answer a few questions we had about different dishes. We had about a 20 minute wait for our table, so we grabbed a couple cocktails at the bar first. I had the Harmony in Beijing and my girlfriend had the Oolong Old Fashion. Both were really refreshing and a great way to start dinner. One thing we really liked was the ordering style. Once you're seated, you just keep picking out small plates you want to try, just like a lot of dumpling shops in China and Japan. It honestly brought back memories from my trips over there. The atmosphere and decor was beautiful and felt authentic without trying too hard. Our favorites were the Spicy Cucumber Salad, Spicy Green Beans, Beef & Vermicelli Dumplings, Hot Sea Pork and Shrimp Dumplings, Pork & Chive Dumplings, and the Crab Rangoons. Everything was fresh and came out pretty quick. We also ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, but I only had one bite because we bought it to give to a homeless woman we met at the park near where we were staying. The biggest downside is the price. It's very, very expensive for what you get. Dumplings that were basically the same size and quality as ones I ate all over Japan for $4-$7 were over $14 here. A pretty small plate of stir fried green beans being around $20 was kinda hard to justify. The only dishes we really didn't care for were the Chinese Style Broccoli, which was pretty plain and lacked flavor, and the Pork & Mushroom Dumplings. They tasted good, but they were dry enough that I probably wouldn't order them again. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner and would definitely come back, but probably only for a special occasion. The food and experience were great, but the pricing keeps it from being a place we'd visit regularly or for a casual night out.

The pork buns are served with a spicy sauce which my dad liked but I decided to pass on. After that, we continued to get more and more disappointed. The Kung Pao Shroom Trio was not our favorite. The sauce on top was lacking and this dish really needs some protein. We also did not enjoy the cheeseburger dumplings. They did not have any cheese in them and the spicy mustard on top did not go with what we felt like the theme of the dish should be. I will say that every dish has great presentation. When we went, it was late. However, none of the servers seemed extremely interested in helping and they would drop items and quickly leave before you could say anything. They do have an online order and pay system which is really nice and the food comes out quickly. They do keep your sodas filled. The ambiance is definitely more bar like (again, makes sense since it was late) since they have a bar upstairs. Not a place for kids. We would come again for some shu mai and pork buns, but that's all.

We opted for a 3 item bbq plate - roast duck, roast pork and bbq pork (char siu). The bbq pork was fine, nothing special but the highlight was the roast duck and pork. The skin on the duck is still crispy, and had a good ratio of fat to meat and bones. Some places make it with a strong star anise flavor, but HKB does not. The flavor on the duck is sooo good and not too salty. The roast pork was juicy and the skin super crunchy! They gave a solid portion too. I'd spend my $20 on this any day! The 2 item and 3 item bbq options are on a separate lunch menu, but I'm not sure if it's offered daily or just weekdays. The rice plates come with some steamed chinese broccoli and a big scoop of rice. They also provide the bbq with a little dipping sauce. It pairs well with the greens, but is a tad bit salty so use sparingly. We also ordered beef chow fun, dry style. The beef slices are tender, the chow fun has that good wok hei flavor, nice and smoky. I do wish the noodles were a tad bit wider but overall, very solid dish.
