Very cute set up and definitely recommended place to eat

The service and food are amazing. I enjoyed the atmosphere, kind people and delicious food. If you are downtown head over here now. The lunch special is huge and the menu is nicely organized. 10/10.

Chinatown Bistro is a staple for me. It's good Chinese food for the Uptown Area. I've eaten in once, but I believe the main purpose is to-go. I would recommend ordering on their website and doing a pick-up order. The actual brick and mortar is a bit small, as well as the parking lot. The intersection it lives on is a bit hard to navigate if you're not used to it. The real stars on the menu are the Wontons in Hot & Spicy sauce and the Sesame Chicken. The Wontons pair well with Thai Basil Fried Rice. The sauce has a good spice level and soaks the dumplings in a savory flavor. The Sesame Chicken has a perfect crunch and coating. It's not too saucy with a great flavor. One notable thing about this place is the portions. The amount you get either lasts a while or feeds an army. The lunch special they serve until 3 daily is worth it always. You get more than a healthy amount of rice as well. This place is a gem in the Uptown neighborhood with great portions with delicious food.

What a great restaurant. Very clean and the staff was very friendly. The portions are plentiful and very tasty. We ordered the chicken fried rice and teryaki chicken. Both were very delicious and the teriyaki sauce was perfect. I couldn't finish my plate because it was a lot of food. My only complaint was the cost. Very good restaurant that I would definitely recommend.

I admit I was dubious about this little spot which sits in a tiny, nondescript building at the southwest corner of Park and East 18th Avenues. My friend, who generally has a discerning palate, said it was good, so I gave it a shot. The interior is tiny with tables for only twelve people. There is a small bar which was being used by the staff. One wall is surprisingly well-decorated. It seems like most of their business is take out and delivery. Many bags were lined up when I collected my order. The menu is mostly Chinese-American standards including a nice mix of beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, fried rice, and vegetarian dishes. There are a few surprises. I haven't seen Egg Foo Young on a menu in a long time. Chinatown Bistro offers it in five varieties. There are a number of Lo Mein and Noodle dishes plus Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, and Noodle soups. The usual suspects populate the regular soup, salad, and appetizer sections. So, why am I rating this so highly? The execution of these dishes is extraordinary. I find most restaurants that cook with woks tend to overcook proteins. Not here. I've tried the beef, pork, chicken, and shrimp. Every single bite was cooked to absolute perfection; tender, moist, and succulent. I tried the fried dumplings which were tender, very flavorful, and came with an excellent dipping sauce. The Wonton soup had a great depth of flavor and the dumplings were delicious. I also tried Happy Family and Combination Fried Rice. Again, flavor after flavor plus perfectly cooked rice and vegetables. Yum. The portions were large and the prices were reasonable. I love this place. Fortunately, it is quite close to my home as I'll be visiting frequently. They are currently closed for two weeks so the family can visit relatives in China. I can't wait until they return!

3.5/5. I got some wonton soup to go. It was ready very quickly and the price was pretty fair for the portion. The soup itself was OK, not the best wonton soup I've had, but not notably bad. I'd come back and try other menu items.

Dark sesame chicken , COLD RICE , and these hard noodles stuck to my chicken .

I visited there during a break from a convention I was attending and was glad to find it open. Service was brusque but reasonably fast. I ordered the Pork Water-Fried Bao and the Spicy Ground Pork over rice. Both looked great; but alas, both dishes were unaccountably bland. I'm not a 'five alarm fire is a great flavor' kind of guy but when a dish says 'Spicy Ground Pork', it better have more zip than communion wafers. Average it out, and this place scores a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

My group of 7 shared the roasted pork, pork and duck barbecue. I'm not a fan of duck so it would not be fair for me to write anything about it, but those who loved duck meat said that this place serve wonderful barbecue duck. As for the pork, both roasted and barbecue, they were so good. We had a little bit of white rice to eat with the meat, but really, you don't need the extra rice in order to eat these two types of pork meats. Since both styles of the pork were prepared differently, I cannot say one is better than the other: they were both delicious. The crunchiness and the flavorful from the roasted pork, as well as the aroma and the soft chewy from the barbecue pork, brings this dining experience to the next level. We also ordered the yu stir fry choy sum in garlic, the combination fried rice, and salt and pepper shrimp. I highly recommend the yu choy and shrimp dishes. I would skip the fried rice and get their beef chow fun, which is exactly what my other group of 6 did. In addition to what were mentioned above, they ordered Chinese broccoli, daikon and beef in clay pot, Taishan five spice duck, salted fish & chicken fried rice. Everyone enjoyed their food and dining experience here. Conversations were easily understood and heard. When asked what their favorite dish was, all of us said we liked everything, but when pressed to give one special dish, several folks mentioned the roasted pork, the clay pot, and the salt and pepper shrimp. Service here was excellent. The manager was very accommodating to our large group of diners, coming back and making sure we are doing fine as he refilled our water glasses. If you are looking for legit Chinese barbecue pork and duck, you don't need to look further: it's here at Happy Cafe BBQ. Enjoy!
