Frickin such a solid take out spot!!!! Ordered Orange chicken extra spicy (wasn't spicy at all) but was delicious, eggroll was definitely the best eggroll I've had in Denver! Had it delivered no problems looked like the owner. I ordered the sesame chicken and was surprised that it was just as bad as the first time I ordered. The chicken was hard dry and stringy. I dont think I could make it this bad if I tryed. One might expect 1 moist piece out a order. Definitely the worst Chinese "food" I've had and the employees are rude. I wanted chow mein but the woman at the counter insisted it was lo mein that I wanted and apparently that's what she rung up for me since that's what I unpacked when I got home. They mains that we had were sesame chicken and kung pao chicken. Honestly if it weren't for the couple of peanuts in the kung pao I'm not sure we could tell which dish was which. Both were just gloopy soggy messes. Of course we had crab cheese wontons which should just be called cheese wontons as I couldn't find any imitation let alone real crab flavoring. I'm sure they just get them frozen from Restaurant Depots bargain bin. We don't need to mention the digestive discomforts after the meal. TAKE OUT ONLY! This place is excellent when you're craving Chinese takeout food!!! Yes, it looks like total shart inside and you don't eat inside, and that's fine. These people are hardworking every time I step foot in the door. Busy as hell because their food is freaking good! I grew up eating egg foo young at the local strip mall my mom would take me to as a kid. Many Chinese places don't offer egg foo young at all! Or if they do, it's crap, but the egg foo young here definitely satisfies my craving that I remember from childhood. It's that gravy that makes the dish yum to the yum. It's always been served on the side but not here for some odd reason. I recommend asking for the sauce on the side and they'll charge you something small for it (which is weird, must be some reason on their end) but it's worth it, I think. The hot and sour soup is also very good! Get the bigger tub, it warms up great for another day! Of all the orders I've made here, I don't know the count, 10+ I suppose, I've never been disappointed in anything. It's all been very good or better than I've had at other Chinese takeout places. Most recently I tried the sesame tofu to go along with my moo goo gai pan. Both were delicious! But again, I recommend the sauce on the side for the tofu. I hadn't ordered the dish before here so didn't realize there'd be sauce ON the fried tofu. And lots of it! Holy shite! Again, like with the egg foo young, it's usually on the side for dipping & controlling the amount as the eater would like. Sesame tofu here was definitely drenched and swimming in the sauce. I don't understand why they keep doing this. However, it's also freaking delicious sauce! It's sweet & it's spicy! Judge a place for what it is. This is takeout. These people work their butts off. The food is very good. They get orders made in usually 15 minutes every time I've called and arrived to pickup. I tip them every time. Even a couple of bucks gives them some appreciation for all the yummy food they pump outta here daily. Definitely my all time fave Chinese takeout thus far! The restaurant used seamless to deliver and he delivered my food over 15 minutes late without handing it to me while I stood outside awaiting hi text that he has arrived with our food. I got very sick because the fried chicken was still raw and was not properly cooked. The picture show the red and Purple blood that make us gag and abandon the fried chicken and fried rice which had a crunchy and raw taste as well. I am a big fan of Great Wall, it's solid American Chinese food. They get absolutely slammed because chinese takeout is popular and this restaurant services a heavily populated area of people. I can't imagine dealing with the logistical nightmare of getting this delivered so I only do takeout orders. The employees here are very nice on the phone, they take time to clarify items on the order which is much appreciated. The actual restaurant itself feels very dated in appearance - like whoa time travel. Again, friendly service and the efficiency in which the kitchen operates is impressive. For this reason the phone ordering time quotes are generally spot on. Dumplings are really good here, I always order some. The Chef Specials are where you should really try to order unless you are craving a classic. The usual suspects Beef and Broccoli, Lo Mein are things I like to order. They do it right at Great Wall. This is the OG of Chinese spots in Capitol Hill. It has been around forever and consistently serves up exactly what you would expect and want from your hole in the wall Chinese spot on Colfax. Lots of fried appetizers, gut busting entrees and you're still giving thanks for it as you reach for the antacids. It's a nostalgic favorite for those of us that have lived downtown forever.
