Ok y'all, the things to get: green beans in xo sauce and scallion pancakes for sure! So delish. We were in the mood for soup tonight and I was craving my mama's beef noodle soup- I will say this was very different and we had to ask for salt for both soups- maybe they have not perfected since we are just getting to some cooler weather- salt definitely helped but I got the fresh noodles and they seemed to soak up too much broth and got soggy pretty quick. Service was all over the place and maybe they are still figuring that system out. Ambiance is great!

It's very clean here and service is efficient. Food comes out quickly. So if you are hungry you don't have to wait forever. I recommend getting some form of fried noodle dish with the handmade noodles. I got it with pork because it was the most price efficient protein at $14.99. Shrimp was $16.99 and beef was $17.99. The noodles are fire! Another must get is the pan-friend pork buns. These are just incredible. I don't think they have a vegetarian or alternative protein option. The fried squid legs are also really good and better than fried calamari at most places. I like the sauce it came with too. The scallion pancakes were also surprisingly good. Much better than the trader joe version. It comes with like a Thai chili duck sauce which i don't care for with this dish. I wish they had a sliced meat to pair it with. I only didn't like the steamed shrimp dumplings. They stuck to the paper and tore when removing. They just didn't hold together well. But the flavor was good. Overall an excellent experience.

Every bite here was absolutely delicious! I love the warm ambiance of the restaurant and the service was incredible. We ordered the scallion pancakes and the cucumber salad as appetizers. The cucumber salad was so light, sweet, and crunchy. The scallion pancake was served piping hot and tasted so fresh, I could have ordered 10 more of these. The fried chicken dumpling was so juicy and I loved the addition of the mushrooms. The dumpling skin was perfectly thing and chewy in a great way. The wonton soup broth was nice and light, similar to a miso soup. And the chicken wontons were flavorful. I love that they make all their sauces in house, the sriracha was super spicy and the chili oil had a lovely Szechuan flavor. We were super excited for dessert and were torn between the egg custard buns and the chocolate buns, the waitress said we could do half and half which we loved. The chocolate buns were pure perfection. The egg custard buns were okay, the custard was less silky and more similar in texture to a lightly scrambled egg. The egg custard buns could have used more custard as well. Overall, it was a lovely dinner and our waitress was super kind and helpful with the menu. I would definitely return to try all of the dumplings.

We were told that Star Kitchen has a good dim sum service and our experience bore out that recommendation. Star Kitchen has 40 tables which is not enough for the demand so reservations are an absolute necessity. One cannot do this over the phone or on the web. Rather, they have a check-in system in the lobby which is only available about 15 minutes before the 10:00 store opening. Odd but effective since it likely eliminates problems with no-shows. Be advised there is a line before the lobby opens! Star Kitchen seats about 120 diners. They only had 5 carts which is far too few for the demand. Two carts are devoted to steamed, two for fried, and one for tofu and congee. The selection of fare was superb and featured the classics. I will say that the kitchen ensured the carts were always stocked. The lack of carts makes the wait between helpings longer than we would have preferred but the quality and taste more than made up for the delay. We started with chrysanthemum tea, ordered a mix of both steamed and fried classics then finished with honey tofu (which we highly recommend!) Six dishes plus dessert is more than enough for two adults. The food is excellent though the ambiance is classic Chinese eatery - functionality punctuated by bizarre objets d'art and random piles of boxes and linens. Go early and sit tight as your patience will be richly rewarded.

Carts rotate and display their options to you frequently as you enjoy your meal. So tou can order plates as quickly as you finish them. I recommend the pork buns and pork ribs. My favorite this time around were the leek dumplings with a side of noodles. We finished off with a coconut bun that wasn't too sweet. It was the perfect finish to the meal with ample amounts of tea. Use the kiosk up front to reserve your spot!

They have the dim sum, set price family dinners, special chef menu and then the main menu with; Chicken, beef, lamb, vegetables, lobster, FROG!, tofu, pan fried noodles, soup, just to name a few. This is a seafood restaurant and saw them fishing the lobsters out of the tank. We started off with a family favorite of small size of seafood fish maw soup which could have easily fed 6-8 people. We were a party of 4 . We had extra to take home too. Then we moved onto the highlight which was the crispy Peking duck. We were 4 people and this 1/2 duck was the perfect size. The skin was juicy and crisp and not dry and leathery. This was a delight to have and the star of our dinner. We then moved on the a chef special menu item which was smoked spare ribs. This was a disappointment. We got overly sweetened little tiny riblets with no smokiness. They were super thin and not what we expected. Will kit order this again. The black mushroom with vegetables was ok. I expected the black mushrooms to be more tender and felt they could have been simmered more to make them softer. They were a bit chewy The yang chow fried rice was a bit on the dry side. We ordered the beef noodles with gravy and this dish was perfect with the crispy noodles under a bed of beef and vegetables. This was delicious. We also ordered and nibbled on a couple of dim sum dishes for dinner. The deep fried meat dumplings were not greasy and had a crunchy exterior. We also ordered the lotus wrapped rice which was comfort food satisfying. We had a lively bilingual Chinese speaking waitress who was super friendly and had water, tea, ice water glasses filled at all times. She was helpful when selecting the food items.

I have a semi-severe shrimp allergy. I was told by the employee there that the pork and chive dim sum DID NOT have shrimp in it and I even asked her again to make sure. Sure enough, there was shrimp in it and I was in pretty severe pain for a few hours. They really need to take those issues into better consideration. Other than that, I really do like Empress and would go back but will need to open up everything I get to make sure there is no shrimp in anything.

The shumai and pork buns came out first and really heightened our expectations. Both were delicious. The sauce that came with the shu mai is one of my favorites that I have ever tried. The pork buns are served with a spicy sauce which my dad liked but I decided to pass on. After that, we continued to get more and more disappointed. The Kung Pao Shroom Trio was not our favorite. The sauce on top was lacking and this dish really needs some protein. We also did not enjoy the cheeseburger dumplings. They did not have any cheese in them and the spicy mustard on top did not go with what we felt like the theme of the dish should be. I will say that every dish has great presentation. When we went, it was late. However, none of the servers seemed extremely interested in helping and they would drop items and quickly leave before you could say anything. They do have an online order and pay system which is really nice and the food comes out quickly. They do keep your sodas filled. The ambiance is definitely more bar like (again, makes sense since it was late) since they have a bar upstairs. Not a place for kids. We would come again for some shu mai and pork buns, but that's all.

We opted for a 3 item bbq plate - roast duck, roast pork and bbq pork (char siu). The bbq pork was fine, nothing special but the highlight was the roast duck and pork. The skin on the duck is still crispy, and had a good ratio of fat to meat and bones. Some places make it with a strong star anise flavor, but HKB does not. The flavor on the duck is sooo good and not too salty. The roast pork was juicy and the skin super crunchy! They gave a solid portion too. I'd spend my $20 on this any day! The 2 item and 3 item bbq options are on a separate lunch menu, but I'm not sure if it's offered daily or just weekdays. The rice plates come with some steamed chinese broccoli and a big scoop of rice. They also provide the bbq with a little dipping sauce. It pairs well with the greens, but is a tad bit salty so use sparingly. We also ordered beef chow fun, dry style. The beef slices are tender, the chow fun has that good wok hei flavor, nice and smoky. I do wish the noodles were a tad bit wider but overall, very solid dish. Sesame balls look/taste like the pre made frozen kind. It had a good chew, solid red bean filling and you get a ton for $5. The service here is nice and friendly. They give you giant cups of water and will check on you to refill it as well. It's in a plaza, lots of shared parking spaces and they do take CC for payment. I am devastated that my now favorite HK BBQ is not in California, but if anyone asks me where to eat in Denver, this spot is going to be my #1 recommendation.

Any Google search for "shrimp chow mein" shows stir-fried egg noodles with shrimp and vegetables. Instead, I was served mixed vegetables with a separate bag of crispy noodles. I already ate the shrimp before taking the photo, which is why they aren't pictured. The lunch portion only came with about four shrimp. If this restaurant serves a different regional style of chow mein, that should be clearly explained on the menu so customers know what they're ordering. When you order chow mein, you expect actual chow mein noodles--not vegetables with a side of rice and a bag of crunchy noodles. Unfortunately, this wasn't what I ordered or expected, and I wouldn't order it again.

Xiao long bao: maybe it was delivery issue, but all dumplings were broken, and the soup leaked. Aside from this, the wrapping is thick especially at the top where the twist is. The filling is also mushy but better than the shrimp Shumai. I still wouldn't get this again. Chili wontons: again, maybe a delivery issue but there wasn't a lot of chili oil since it leaked out of the bag. Aside from that, the wrapper was thick. Filling was meh.
