I came to Sputnik with my bf this Saturday for brunch and $5 bottomless mimosas. Now it may help that the bartender and my bf are childhood friends but our service was very good as was the food and drinks. I had the Vegetarian Chorizo Sandwich, sweet potato fries, mimosa and coffee... everything was delicious! The mimosa wasn't overly sweet, the chorizo was better then I expected it to be, the sweet potato fries are some of the best I have had since I left the south and the coffee was smooth, not burnt and not bitter. Dark and simple! While it's a bar that serves everyone from the true hipsters to the elites wanting to be hipsters Sputnik is a great place to have a drink and a late night meal. But it is even a better place to have brunch the next day to wash away the effects of the pub crawl the night before. We did the brunch, admittedly for the $5 bottomless mimosa. I was blown away by the great service and incredible food. This coffee was perfectly brewed. How do they put crispy fries underneath eggs, and they stay crispy? The big minus to our experience was the aforementioned mimosas..... we drank two carafes of them and didn't even feel a buzz...... I felt so, um, responsible and lucid. Precisely what I wasn't looking for on this Sunday morning, but I'd be back again - ordering their yummy fries and a real cocktail. Great bar in a great neighborhood. Went for just the drinks and didn't leave disappointed. Great drinks both strong and reasonably priced. The bar was packed but not overly so....was able to get a booth both times I went. The waitstaff was fantastic and the music, vibe and the people were all great. Sputnik is way cool - it's divey, great indie/alternative music and a photo booth! We went on a Friday night and it was pretty crowded but we were able to find a bar stool to sit on near the front. Really, I can't say how much I enjoyed the atmosphere here - I loved the music and the dim lighting. Great beer, great atmosphere, great bar! read more

They have a sweet ass old school photobooth that will shoot out 4 pictures of you and your friends for 2 dollars a piece after 10 mins. Had heard a few good things about vegetarian friendly options (I'm not but 2 in my group were) so we stopped by on the way to a show at the Gothic. Didn't remember my square glasses and skinny jeans but it didn't matter, everyone there was nice. Funky vibe. Decent beer selection and prices. We got the sweet potato fries and yup, those are tasty. I had the Vietnamese sandwich and apparently should have got the veggie option because it has this weird pork meat disks in it. What are they? What part is disk? I chanced into Sputnik for lunch. They have a lunch and brunch menu to choose from with a lot of fun choices. Although many of the selections have meat, they also make almost every one of them vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. Suits me. I ate the Israeli falafel wrap which was delicious and hearty. Sputnik is perfectly located in the eclectic Broadway neighborhood which I would probably visit more often if I were in my 20's. This fun little restaurant includes a large bar area and several (very dark) booths along with little table with chairs from a beauty parlor (including the dryer). I laughed when my husband sat down in the "dryer" chair - needless to say, we moved to the bar. At first, give that I'm old (compared to 98% of the rest of the patrons on a Saturday afternoon), I thought that the music was too loud. But within a couple of minutes I found myself quietly singing along and bobbing my head up and down to tunes from the 80's (my era). "Wow (I told my husband) I could sit at the bar all afternoon, listen to the music and drink bottomless mimosas!" Not only was the music great - this place has an actual DJ - on a Saturday afternoon! I have no idea what it's like her on a Friday or Saturday night, but I can only guess that it's packed. So, I'll stick to lunch. I read many of the reviews of Sputnik beforehand and was eager to try the famous sweet potato fries. They are delicious - sweet and crunchy, especially with the sweet/hot asian sauce. We also tried the regular fries which were much less impressive - actually, they were pretty boring. Stick with the sweet ones. The Cuban sandwich is very good and large enough to split (if you're not into gorging yourself at lunch - especially if you want to leave plenty of room for the fries). The bread is crusty but not dry and the pork moist and tender. The yellow mustard and pickles top off this very traditional sandwich. Overall I would give the food 3.5 stars. Service - 4 stars - very friendly and attentive. Ambiance - 3.5 stars (4 for the music, 3 for the rest). I look forward to another lunch at Sputnik as all of the food looks pretty good - maybe this time we'll drink Mimosas and listen to music all afternoon. read more

There are a lot of reviews on here already- so I'll let you make your own choice about if Sputnik is too hipster, mighty loud, or simply just a lovely neighborhood bar. But I just want you to know about their Vietnamese Sandwich. Both the pork or tofu version are fantastically flavorful, and I sometimes get a craving for it just sitting at my desk at work. Hot jalapenos, tangy carrot slaw, marinated tofu or pork, cucumber and cilantro on a soft baguette (and maybe some crack?). Pairs perfectly with my usual drink- whiskey and ginger beer. Sweet Potato Fries are the bomb. The menu is varied as it is inventive. The place is small and popular with the way-too-cool-beautiful-people. So one might not get a place to sit-down and eat a meal, especially if going during the late weekend evenings. During warm nights you can find a bodacious crowd spilling onto the sidewalk.
