I usually don't bother with Yelp reviews but this needed to be shared. Steuben's is a staple in Denver and has always been excellent until our latest visit. My wife and I stopped into Steuben's to have a snack (donut holes) and a couple of rounds of cocktails. We used the Dining Out Passbook for BOGO cocktails with purchase of food. Our bartender (who was perfectly friendly and helpful) said he needed his manager to get the free cocktail. To be clear, we had literally no interaction with this woman at any point. So it's not like we did something to piss her off. When she arrived at the POS station - behind the bar about six feet from where we were sitting - she proceeded to complain about the "a-holes" (edited for language) using the Passbook and what a bunch of a-holes those customers were (not knowing we were in earshot). And when the bartender - who knew who we were and that we could hear everything - said in a hushed tone "No, they were nice" she proceeded to tell him that she didn't care and that they're just a-holes. I've never been treated so shoddy in my life in a restaurant for no other reason than using a promotional discount that they voluntarily participated in. It's bad enough to attack your customers for using a discount. But doing it behind the bar where customers can hear you is beyond unacceptable. And doing it when the customers you're talking about are within earshot is the most offensive thing I've ever expereinced at a restaurant. You may go to Steuben's and have a nice meal, but just be aware that behind the bar, they're talking about what an a-hole you are. read more

Stopped in this weekend to try the brunch menu! Started off with the deviled eggs which were delicious and went for the tomato and avocado benedict. It came out with perfectly poached eggs and a large serving of crispy potatoes! We also ordered the cookies n cream milkshake which was delicious, their milkshakes are a classic staple and they have a ton of fun specialty flavors as well. The restaurant was relatively busy but we were able to be seated immediately without a reservation. I had a fantastic dinner here last night. It was my first time at Steuben's. My waitress was very kind and professional. I very much enjoyed my interactions with her. It was to the point where my entire chest and face were bright red by the end of the dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One of the people in our party ordered an iced tea and all of the ice melted after a few minutes. The service started out on the more negative side. Our server kept disappearing and his nose was visibly running when he came by the table. His responses were also very short when we asked questions. He did appear to be in a much better mood later on in the experience after we had our food. He began to check on us more frequently and was a lot more chatty. The monkey bread was on the more dry side and some of the pieces were very crispy, but it had a good level of sweetness that wasn't overwhelming. The rest of the food was just okay. I ordered the North Shore 3-way and the entire bottom bun was soggy. I ended up just not eating the bottom bun because it was extremely mushy. The flavors of the dish didn't mix well together. Their version of a smash burger was pretty good. It looks a little bit lonely if you order it as is because it doesn't have a side that comes with it unless you pay extra. They have a lot of cocktails that looked interesting, but we didn't end up ordering any during this trip. I want to preface this with our server was amazing and management was super cool. We loved our dining experience from a service standpoint. Also kitchen has nothing to do with the changes they just follow orders so it is owners fault. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?!!! 10 years ago you had an amazing menu and everything on it was bomb dot com. Now the same gravy fries are somewhat gravy and cheesy and they had no flavor. The monte cristo used to be fluffy battered and now it's just crispy and not the good crispy. The biscuit was super dry and inedible. The bread pudding was burnt when it came to me. So sad. Did you fire your chef or did he quit??? Whatever you do bring them back please. The hot chicken had too much spice not enough flavor. Also the pickles used to be scratched made here into pickle spears. Also charging for sides is criminal. There's really no way to point to one thing on the menu, everything is really good elevated diner food. We snuck in before the brunch rush with our toddler and the staff were so great. The gravy was typical, nothing specially flavored about it. The service was good, our waiter was very friendly and gave suggestions. The restrooms were large and clean. The interior design of the restaurant is very American with newspapers and pictures on the walls. Steubens is really pricey for what you get. I had a beer, banana split, and some loaded fries and after tip, it was about $70 . And the food is ok. Both times I have been here. I have sat at the bar. The bartenders and wait staff both times seemed unenthusiastic and not real welcoming. It's almost as if they tolerate their customers being there. On this trip, I had some smothered french fries and an ice cream sundae banana split bowl. I mean, you really can't mess up ice cream but the presentation I thought it could've been a little better. My banana was literally broken up on top. This smothered fries, lacked care on the plate or any garnish. I don't know if it's the management here or what would have employees care so little about the people they are caring for. Even when placing an order for more food or beverage it seemed really difficult. It's almost as if you have to place your entire order at the time they're ready to take your order or it's an inconvenience . I have now tried this restaurant for brunch and for dinner. My interactions with staff were very similar both times. I even had someone from the wait staff complain to me about having to go to work that day and they should've called out sick. And the food both times was a 5 to 7 out of 10. People are impressed with the ambience a lot. It has that 1950s diner feel but it's a little more upscale than that. It does have a nice layout and it is cozy. But you probably can cook better at home. I know this is a local favorite however, I will not be suggesting this restaurant to anyone as a place for us to go for dinner or anytime. read more

It's a cute place and the food was delicious. Only problem was that there was a 30 min wait on Thursday and we chose to sit at the bar to get food quicker. So the bar tender did give us small glasses of water but then didn't look our way or ask if we were ready to order food for 25 minutes. I went to the hostess to see if the regular wait had decreased and she said no. I told her the bar tender hadn't looked our way for over 20 minutes and the bar was only half full. Steuben's is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Denver. It's the kind of place that feels nostalgic in the best way...classic, unfussy, and consistently great. When friends or family come into town, this is usually my go-to. The food is approachable, comforting, and always solid. On my most recent visit, I came in craving two very important things: burgers and their fries and let me tell you, it delivered. We tried a few different burgers: The Cheeseburger was simple and satisfying with a brioche bun, American cheese, fresh toppings, and that classic combo of mayo and mustard. The Crunch Burger might've changed my life a couple of years ago (I celebrated a big promotion with it), and it still holds up. The pressed bun, melted cheese, tangy special sauce, and those griddled onions? Unreal. The Patty Melt was next-level. I'm a patty melt person (read: I've had the one at Whataburger's), but this one hit different. Perfectly toasted marbled rye, gooey cheese blend, and rich caramelized onions and just chef's kiss. Then there was the boozy piña colada shake: coconut rum, pineapple, vanilla soft serve, toasted coconut, and a cherry on top. I usually avoid ordering blended drinks at bars but here? No shame. We really love this place. We visit Denver once or twice a year and always go here one night each trip. It has a great relaxed vibe. Feels like a diner that has been there for decades. We saw on TikTok. They decorated their patio for the holidays. We wanted to sit out there and enjoy the decorations. They had heat lamps so we did not feel too cold. Even though we were outside, our waiter was still very attentive, he did not forget about us. I got the Monte Cristo. I thought it was prepared well and I'm glad they cut it up into four pieces. So good! Being from the east coast, I know a good Philly cheesesteak when I have one and they literally fly the cheesesteak rolls in. Everything was great. They were featured on diners, drive ins and dives which I did not know until we got there and I don't think you could go wrong. I will say, all the sides are separate so be prepared. Disappointing meal at Steuben's. Our waiter recommended the Fried Chicken. It was certainly crispy, but well overcooked, dry and almost tasteless. The big bowl of gravy was supposed to soften it up I guess. The mashed potatoes were lumpy, perhaps designed that way and the dry biscuit was also crunchy. I don't know, but I think our food must have been under a food lamp for a long time. The wine and beer list is meager, with inexpensive wines. The best thing about the place was our server, Sam. I finally went to Steuben's uptown. I had had their items at so many festivals and events and even had been to their old location in Arvada, but hadn't made it here yet until this last week! I got the happy hour meal a burger fries and a drink for $13! That's a pretty solid deal. And the burger was cooked perfectly I had mine with cheese lettuce tomato and their burger sauce. It was juicy and crispy and made to perfection! I also enjoyed their fries which was also a pretty large portion and a coke which they quickly refilled for me too!
