I have been to Sputnik before and enjoyed it. However, we went this evening to celebrate my father's birthday and they really knocked it out of the park! First I want to mention how great the service is. It's a more casual atmosphere where the bartenders also wait tables but they are efficient and friendly. I also want to mention that everyone in my family has different diets and restrictions. Sputnik offers a simple menu, yet this menu is mostly offered with vegan and vegetarian options. I decided to stay plant based as well this visit and ordered the tofu banh mi. I've had this dish at different plant based restaurants, and let me tell you, this was the best one I've had by far! The tofu is perfectly crispy and flavorful. I also decided to try the slow graffiti- an olive and strawberry drink that was absolutely amazing. Perfect balance of salty and sweet. One of my standouts this year! For those who aren't familiar with Sputnik, this dive bar seems unassuming; but those who know, know this is the best of Denver, truly. The staff is unpretentious, the interior is eclectic and comfortable; walls decked with both guest gifts and local art. What puts all of these aspects to bed though, is the food menu. Their signature cocktails are great too, but I'd be lying if I said they held a candle to the food. Now I'm not usually one to write a review on the spot, but when I tried their bahn mi, I was floored. This sandwich is easily top three in my life. The meat is juicy, the house pickles, perfectly tart without overpowering the shining miso mayo flavor. Pro tip: let those juices drip into your fries, you'll thank me later. Unfortunately, my friend and I planned our evening around going to Sputnik for the Photo Booth and ended up leaving without taking a photo or purchasing a cocktail. While waiting in line we noticed an individual had a lemon garnished martini and we wanted one for ourselves. Sputnik is a fun dive bar with a huge separate vegan menu. My partner and I got the kale caesar salad, falafel wrap, and the elusive corn dog! Everything was excellent, though the corn dog was especially good (think they might use field roast?) As for the drinks, there is a decent selection of beer and plenty of cocktails to choose from. And the space itself is really fun--good people and environment. A little busy on the weekends, so if you're coming with a group of people either try to get there early or be prepared to wait a little for a table. read more

Oh noooo, the poor bartender. When I walked into Sputnik and sat down at the bar, I got excited about the selection of whiskey. Unfortunately it came out as asking the bartender for a scotch that would burn my organs. I forget that I should be a little more mindful about my dark humor. I settled for a Laphroaig since tequila was more up his alley and he had no recommendations. My best friend joined me, and we enjoyed dinner before heading to a different bar. I got the incredible Cubano Bowl ($12.50) which had braised jackfruit, rice, black beans, plantains, and chimichurri. SOOOO good. I could have gotten mojo pork, but jackfruit seemed more unique. Decent quantity of food for the price, and the flavors were phenomenal. We left because the music was too loud. Overall quirky little spot with an odd selection of food. Love that they're open for both lunch and dinner, then late into the night for drinks. I could be open to coming here again. I came here to Sputnik last night.Was visiting from Los Angeles. Great place but The lady who is there on Mondays running the karaoke machine was extremely rude. I made a comment to her that the music is not supposed to be louder than the person singing. She had the music blasted so loud, you couldn't even hear yourself sing, which is bizarre because when she sang, the sound was perfectly fine and the music wasn't as loud. She got so mad that she cussed at me and got so salty about it. If there wasn't truth in what I said, she wouldn't have gotten so upset. I'd describe their menu as mostly bar food like corn dogs, mac n cheese, and tacos, with some outliers like a falafel wrap, bahn mi & katsu curry. I'm totally shocked by the handful of negative reviews I've seen here. I've been to Sputnik between 10 and 20 times and have never been disappointed by food quality or service! I think they may be understaffed, bc even w the occasional slow service, every server I've had has been so kind and fun, acknowledging they're slammed and still serving with a good attitude. *Fries are some of my favorite anywhere. Thin cut and always well seasoned. Comes with two sauces and they're all made in house and delicious. Love the sriracha ranch and nashville aioli. *Kale Caesar is hands down my favorite vegan Caesar salad in Denver. It's got a bite of garlic and the croutons are always delish. Consistently a favorite. *Vegan Cubano: had for the first time tonight and it was amazing on every level. It was also bigger than I expected it to be! *Sputburger: my boyfriend said it's the best burger he's had in a long long time. Pickled onions changed the game. *Vegan Mac n Cheese has evolved over the past couple of years. It's been a bit different every time I get it, but I have to say it's been good every time. I love Sputnik so much. My 5-year-old and I have a tradition to go on "date nights" here. We go on the earlier end just to be mindful of the bar setting :) The staff is always SO kind and welcoming. We usually grab a booth under the awesome paper globe lights, take a photobooth photo, and gab about our weeks. All of the food is great (and I appreciate all the vegan options!) but we go crazy for their sweet potato fries. Plus, you can't beat the Happy Hour prices. It is a bar/restaurant set up so I don't tend to go in person cause it can get PACKED which can make the service slow and servers a little short for understandable reason. To no fault of their own, the place is small and you seat yourself so it's hard to manage traffic. So I prefer to order take out! I would clarify if you get any sauces and things if they cost extra! What a unique bar and grill! Nearly every item on the menu has a vegan option, and many of which are quite rare to find. They even had something called a frito pie which I guess is like a bag of fritos with chili on top. I had a flight of jackfruit tacos to-go. Size wise, they are just your typical street tacos, but I really appreciated that each one had 2 tortillas to keep them from falling apart. They also had a good kick to them and a side of green salsa if you need a little more heat. A great value for $7 - all prices are very reasonable. It definitely feels more like a 'bar' than a 'grill'. Very dim lighting and much more focus on the bar than the surrounding booths. It seems Sputnik upped its game on the food since my husband and I had last visited. The vegan kale Caesar salad was really good with plenty of dressing. The cauliflower wings had the perfect crunchy texture and the sauce was amazing. One suggestion is to add a little more sauce as the wings are very bland without out. I stopped in for a quick lunch because I wanted to check out their vegan options. The place has classic dive bar vibes and wasn't very busy during lunch but I know it gets pretty busy on weekends and it is pretty small. There was only one bartender working upfront but the service was good. They had several vegan options to choose from but the only side option I saw was fries. I didn't really want fries so I just got the wrap by itself. It was a good size and very tasty. The greens and the tofu had good flavor. I would definitely come back next time I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Usually I love Sputnik but we went with a group and they were extremely rude. Their food is good, but when we went to check out they charged us for extra fries. When we tried to explain to them that we got charged extra our server told us we got all the food he was charging us for. This is after he forgot to deliver one order with the rest. We were not rude, but just let him know we were waiting on it. After bringing us our bill, he said he'll be right back, talked with the bartender, then left to go smoke. He was out there for ten minutes without letting us close out so we closed out at the bar. The bartender also fought us on the extra fries and we ended up paying for them. She said usually they're nice about this stuff but that we definitely got those fries. Overall it was only $5, so it wasn't a huge deal. But they were extremely rude and we had no issues before with them so it was surprising that they wouldn't budge or accept fault and were both very combative. If you ever need a hangover cure, roll on over to Sputnik for brunch at 11. Their cocktails and scrambles will hit the spot. Breakfast margarita, michelada, or lavender gin lemonade? Or maybe a carafe of mimosas? There are vegan options for almost every dish on the Sputnik brunch menu. It's hard to choose between avocado toast, a breakfast burrito, the hangover scramble, the blue plate special or the South Broadway Hash, but my all-time favorite is definitely the Stacks of Vegan Power. Their bartenders are cool and their playlist eclectic. It's a great place to hang solo at the bar, enjoying free coffee refills and free wifi. It's also a great place to cram a bunch of friends into a booth to share some drinks and dip some fried things. While Sputnik is not exclusively vegan, they serve some of the best vegan food in town. I'm crazy about their jalapeño jam. They make a really good green chili and a bomb Bahn Mi. They have vegan fried pickles and vegan tacos and Field Roast corn dogs. I've tried just about every vegan option on the menu, and the only thing that was not good was the vegan mac n' cheese, so go ahead and order any vegan item but that. This place was good! Lots of vegan and vegetarian options! The garlic sauce that came with the falafel bowl was very good. It was very dark inside the restaurant. The waiter was very friendly. After a small panic as restaurants began to close all around us, we were so happy to find Sputnik on our Yelp search for vegan and open now We were able to find a table right away and prompt and friendly service. We ordered Nashville hot falafel, fries, a field burger corn dog, and a jackfruit bowl. We ordered hibiscus coolers and a beer. The food came out quickly, as did our drinks. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the service remained attentive and helpful until we departed with our check. I rarely give one star reviews but I had a bizarre experience that I now see has been shared by many others at Sputnik so I feel inclined to make it known at large. My bandmates (@sorrykylemusic) and I came to Sputnik after playing a show in Denver at 7th Circle Music Collective, after having driven all day from Salt Lake City from our show the night before and from our show in Vegas the night before that. We got food and beers, the food was good, and even the service was fine, until the very end. We got the bill for around $87, my bandmate put in the $90 we made from our show that night and out that down to cover the check while we got the tip together. The waiter came and took the bill and cash, looked confused, asked my bandmate if he wanted change and my bandmate said no thinking that would be the start of the tip. Over the next minute or two as we finished our beers, we got another ~$14 on the table, after having also tipped on our bar tabs. But when my other bandmate comes back from the bar, he's pissed bc the bartender asked what they did wrong bc we only tipped $3. We had the rest of the tip in plain view on the table, but we noticed we were still getting sour looks from our waiter. My bandmates got up and left, and I went last to make sure our server saw that we left a tip, and before I could say a word he said "thanks for leaving such a bad tip", which I then attempted to clarify but he was not listening. I told another staff member what was up but seemed to fall on deaf ears, so I left and would not be likely to come back or update the review unless this recurring issue is addressed. It's very common when paying with cash to leave the final tip on the table, and by assuming we were leaving a crap tip and speaking rudely, the staff turned what was otherwise a decent celebration of the end of our small tour into an awkward restaurant encounter the likes of which I've never experienced that also caused personal friction as a result. In no way is this professional or hospitable, and it's clearly a pattern. read more

I've been here twice. It only took one visit the second time to decide to never come back. The first time I visited, there's a homeless man who was severely malnourished so I decided that on my second return I'd buy him some basic food. On the second visit, I saw the same homeless man, shaking and trying to stay warm. I went inside to buy a few corn dogs (outrageously priced at ~$6 a corn dog, but I bought it anyways). I'm used to normal tip etiquette and tip when dining in or getting drinks. Since I only ordered 3 basic food items to go, I decided to just go no tip. After checking the receipt, the bartender audibly yells out loud "no tip! Don't wait here, get to the front and don't come in". I proceed to wait about 20 minutes for 3 corn dogs, get yelled at again by the same employee and leave. The only good thing about that experience was helping someone else. Love the vegan bar food! Some of the items are a stretch for bar food but still welcome, hard to beat the sweet potato fries with habanero jam!! Top it off with a vegan corn dog! Yeah this place can get a little crowded and a little loud at times, but we have never had trouble finding a table. I called disappointed and confused as this is not usually what the sandwich looks like at all. I called and the waitress said oh um we changed the recipe..
