My wife and I drove out to Lavender by the Bay in Marion Bay, LI today (Saturday). Great lavender fields in LI. On the way back, we decided to drive around LI a bit and came upon this great little place. We arrived around 1pm, parked right in front, it wasn't crowded at all, and were seated right away. The hostess/waitress was very friendly and personable. She took our order and the food came out right away. We got the Roquefort burger and the soft shelled crab on a bun from the daily specials, and an order of truffle fries. We also both had the house kale salad, which was fantastic. Everything was very good. Don't believe we'll be back in Patchogue again any time soon, but if we are, we'll definitely come back here. The traffic back to CT was a bear, but all in all, it was a great day. read more

We did a quick search while driving and ended up picking this place to have a good lunch. This was the best decision. The waitress was very inviting and super friendly. We order the scallop risotto and the grilled salmon and kept taking bites off of each other's plates because both dishes were so delicious. Glad we went with the recommendation for the key lime pie as our dessert. We had to actively try not to finish it just so we could take it with us to enjoy later! I've always wanted to try this cute little place nestled on South Ocean! Finally decided to check it out yesterday with some friends while it was super gorgeous out. We sat inside though because the outside seating wasn't set up. My friend started with the grilled artichoke, which he enjoyed. We ordered drinks all around, I split a sangria pitcher and it was delicious! For dinner I ordered the roquefort burger which was good, and the french fries that came with it were thin crispy and yummy. Everyone else got the filet mignon and branzino which they loved. I felt like the menu was very unique and had a really nice array of options. The waiter seemed kind of lost, which is why I took one star away. The bread was so delicious we ordered a second basket, but he forgot it in the oven, then gave us a new basket after we reminded him about it mid-way through the mea. He rushed to bring it so the bread was cold and the butter was hard. He also spilled a decent amount of the sangria on the floor when pouring it, and did not refill or add an additional amount to the pitcher. That was the only downfall, but not enough for me to not come back! Atmosphere is super cute. Top restaurant in Patchogue....by far!!!! Everything I have ever eaten from here has been off the charts. The service is consistently fantastic. My 3 stars is about the place... not the food. Never even got to eat.Went here on a Saturday night. Made reservations because it was highly recommended. Outside is nothing to speak of but would have sat outside in a heartbeat. We walked in and our table was ready. After ten mins of sitting there, I asked the hostess to put on the air. She said they didn't have air. I had sweat dripping in ten mins .. couldn't imagine staying and enjoying the food. No tables were available outside so we left. There were two tables with one person at it. Just sitting there. Prob waiting for others. I don't know if it's always no air or it was broke but I wish i was warned. Jen and I have been meaning to try it out for a while. Finally got there tonight. Sat at the bar and had a few apps - Grilled Artichokes and Flatbreads. Then main course was Shrimp with Scallops & the Fish special. Everything came out within a reasonable amount of time and was well prepared. We both enjoyed our meals. Megan the manager was on point. Courteous, knowledgeable and personable. The owner was attentive to her staff and was working as hard as the rest of them. We will so be back. My husband and I were visiting the area for the weekend wanted to find someplace nice for dinner. We are foodies. He's a chef and we've both been in the food industry for over 30 years. We love good food and don't mind paying for good food. I regularly rely on Yelp reviews to find new places in areas that I am unfamiliar with. I've had good experiences doing so. I read the reviews for this place and decided to give it a try. The restaurant is very small which is not a bad thing. We had a reservation and were seated right away. It didn't seem like the wait staff had assigned tables. Three different servers had asked us if we wanted to order drinks....we had already ordered them. One server comes by to read us the specials. At that point I overhear a woman sitting at a table next to us that was already finished eating say "Why didn't anybody read us the specials". We LOVE seafood especially shellfish. We were very disappointed to see that there weren't any clams or oysters on the menu. A little surprising considering it's an ocean town. My husband ordered the Honey Lime Calamari as an appetizer and I ordered the mussels mariniere. My husband loves scallops so he ordered the Jumbo pan seared Scallops with Rock Shrimp and I ordered the Herb Crusted Salmon. Within a short period of time someone brought my husband's appetizer out (calamari). We patiently waited for mine. After a few minutes we flagged someone down to ask where my mussels were. Turns out the order for the mussels was never put in (awkward silence) and we were give a sorry shrug. We decided to forgo the mussels at that point and just split the calamari. The calamari tasted good but you could tell it was a pre-made product that they purchase. It had the coating similar to burger king onion rings and they were all perfectly the same size. I was a little surprised since they told me that the ravioli special was homemade. Like I said the flavor was good it just struck me as a little odd. At some point the server that took our order came over to apologize for the mussels mishap and said they were going to take our drinks off the check as a good gesture. Our dinner order comes out. My salmon looked awesome and tasted equally awesome. My husband's portion was surprisingly small for a $30 entree. The scallops were not jumbo...they were equivalent to the size of a quarter and there was not many of them (maybe 5?). The shrimp were teeny tiny...like you would see in a shrimp salad (like the size of a dime). Is that rock shrimp??? The scallops and "rock shrimp" were served over a bed of risotto. Now if you going to skimp on the scallops and shrimp, at least give the customer a decent portion of risotto. Risotto is cheap.....I think more than a scoopful was warranted. I felt bad for my husband because I could tell he was still hungry. I shared my salmon with him. At the end of the dinner when the check was brought out, the server said that they were taking 10% off the bill because of the mishap. This was not the same server who said they were going to comp our drinks. Anyway at that point we just decided to leave and not make a stink about it.....but we left kind of hungry. So in the end, we spent about $100 and left still hungry. Not cool. Would I go back...nope. Would I recommend it to someone? Not really. There was this beautiful place across the street (Lombardi's on the Bay) that looked like it would have been a better experience. Not sure why it didn't come up in my search. Oh well..... read more

I was looking so forward to taking my sisters out to dinner tonight, but the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. The service was very inconsistent. At times, I waited 10+ minutes with an empty glass. Two of us ordered a burger medium well, but they both came out RARE! We sent them back, but got them back cooked the same way. Only this time, they were sloppily thrown back together indicating that our food was completely man-handled. Aside from the fact that they were still very undercooked the second time, the presentation was unappetizing at best. After speaking to the "manager" I left without dinner, and outraged at her flippant attitude about our terrible experience! We've been here many times before with very different outcomes. Went here for dinner last night, at first glance was a little worried, it is a tiny place and there was hardly any parking BUT once we got inside were pleasantly surprised. Its a quaint cozy spot with cute decor. Waitress was very friendly. Was a little disappointed that none of the Rose on the menu was available, they had another available at $40 a bottle which was still good but then they should update the menu. We started with the flatbread with Proscuitto, spinach, pesto and parmigano. The only thing that disappointed was that the proscuitto was more of a cooked ham than a traditional proscuitto, BUT it was still delicious. The flavors really packed a punch. For dinner I had the rock shrimp and scallops over risotto. I've had my share of risotto and this was definitely up there with one of the better ones. Not overly creamy or sticky...just perfect. I've wanted to try this place for awhile since moving to Patchogue so we went there for dinner. The decor and location is small and inviting, and the service was excellent. The food however was a big disappointment. We had calamari and the prosciutto flatbread for starters. The calamari was simply inedible. It was overcooked and rubber like. I mentioned this to our waitress and she quickly brought out another plate which was not overcooked, however still very sad- super oily and the breading was just not good, uninspired sauces. The flatbread was ok, again though, something you can easily make yourself, nothing amazing. Just melted cheese and not a quality cheese at that. For the main we got the scallops and shrimp and the cheese burger. The burger was good, the scallops again were so disappointing... They came with risotto that was almost cold, the shrimp consisted of about 4-5 tiny little pieces and 3 sea scallops. It lacked flavor and it was almost cold. I don't know if it was just an off night but it's hard for me to justify the price for the food quality :( I was really hoping to find a gem. read more

We came here on a lark on our way to a winery weekend from the blue point brewery and we were surprised by the great food. It was actually my favorite restaurant of the entire weekend. We ordered the vegetable platter, fish sandwich (salmon), brisket ravioli. The kale salad stood out as well. The ravioli was good but not special as was the key lime pie. read more

Off the beaten path and well worth finding, south ocean grill never disappoints!! I have brought along friends, family, coworkers and clients and all have been quite impressed. In fact last week I ate here two days in a row. Everything I've tasted is excellent. My personal favorites are the grilled artichoke, Mexican Street corn, volcano shrimp and the kale salad. I'm not a big burger person but apparently, as per my boyfriend, they are outstanding as well. It's quite small inside so it can be difficult to get a table but if you can go on a week night or for lunch you'll be better off. Better yet, go on a nice day and sit outside! read more

Came back here one year later and everything is still so good. They have margaritas with real fruit. The watermelon margarita is ok, as they put a lot of ice. But the slice of watermelon tastes very strong with alcohol. The Gold Coast Salad is still amazing. It's probably my favorite salad. The scallops are super tasty. Everything else has a good combination. The pan seared jumbo scallops and rock shrimp is still very good. The scallops are still very good. The shrimp has a bit of smoked taste.
