Haven't been to soong Soong in ages and decided to have lunch here. Parking might be difficult when it's busy but we scored one. Restaurant is on the smaller side but we got seated immediately. Oh lord, we orders 3 lunch special items and 2 appetizers. Everything came out very quickly andso we got full very quickly. Their soups are very delicious and must go back to try other items but this time need to bring more people to share the items
Pancake Roll with Chinese Donut is a good way to start the meal. It is crispy and, savory. But there are other appetizer options. I may try others next time. Seafood Porridge is a must-try! Packed with fresh seafood and rich flavors. I love this dish. It is hearty, comforting, and full of taste. Lemon Chicken is tangy and a little sour for me. But i would be a good match with rice.
Catered lunch, the overall dishes seem a bit too salty though the variety is ok. The fried pork chop was flavorful and it's my favorite dish. The broccoli and beef is standard. Service for catering is good as the food arrives on time.

This is definite a hidden gem in the heart of Santa Clara. I've been going for the last 10 years, and their food taste has remain delicious. The staff are super diligent and kind. The price is decent. They usually open 9-10ish in the morning, offer lunch plates, as well as big party groups. They offer a lot of hometown dishes in authentic tastes, such as soy milk and Chinese dough, and pancake.
We went here for my dad's birthday dinner since he was looking for authentic Chinese food in a low-noise restaurant. This place is nice and cozy and we got seated quickly and as expected, it is not as noisy and rowdy as other Chinese restaurants. We got Tea Smoked Duck (Half) which was a hugeee portion and was cooked perfectly, not too dry, not too gamey, and was nice and tender. I also loved their Salt & Pepper Fish, the breading was light and the fish was tender. The Chicken Wing in HotPot was ok, I would say they're just like your average chicken wings but with Chinese flavors. The veggies were also solid, just a nice veggie dish for balance. We also got the House Special Fried Rice and that was solid too, with nice plump pieces of shrimp and tender pieces of beef and chicken with the rice cooked perfectly. We got free sweet red bean soup at the end of the meal which was a nice touch. Overall, we would go here again since the ambiance is nice, making it easy to talk to people with the company of good food!

We had the bamboo shoot soup with pickled and fresh streaky pork, salt and pepper pork chop, steamed sea bass, and sautéed snow pea sprout. Everything was tasty and made me feel like home. I haven't had these types of dishes in a while! The soup really warmed me up, the sea bass was delicious, and I really liked their snow pea sprout.

Crispy sole with sauce on the side but I can taste the baking soda on the batter or on the fish skin. Peking style spare ribs but what we got was pieces of pork chops in Peking style sauce. Chicken with assorted vegetables (or maybe it was chicken stir fried with broccoli and carrots) was just ok. Overall on the scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best, I'd probably rate what we ordered for take out as a 1 1/2-2 at best. Only ordered here as I red recommendation on Nextdoor for Chinese food. I'd never go back here for Chinese food. I'm sorry. Sadly I only took picture of after.

TIP: if you check in on yelp - you get a free scallion pancake - cooked perfectly and so delicious even the next day Large portions and the star of our meal was the dough drop soup - Never seen this before but looked like something we would like. Our picky toddler LOVED this and ate an entire bowl. Seafood porridge- rich in flavor and packed with toppings. Green beans - perfectly cooked tofu - same We plan to return in the future with extended family We felt like the service was good.

Came on a weekday for their lunch special and was not disappointed! Visit Soong Soong if you want yummy food, good service and generous portions! Note they are in a non-descript strip mall off Stevens Creek behind a Taco Bell and between an Avis/Hertz car rental and a nail salon. The restaurant was very clean and updated inside. We enjoyed our food and the experience! The lunch specials are definitely shareable with the starch (noodles or rice) served on a separate plate. I look forward to coming back to try their other dishes or even their catering. read more

Here I sit post-op, getting quality care from my girl and she decides to spoil me with Chinese food, a big treat for me, or so I thought! I sincerely don't know where to begin, so let's start with the fried rice. It was more like white rice (no fry to it), and it was clumpy, almost like it was reheated. A little bit of cabbage with undercooked shrimp. Next, the egg rolls, an overcooked shell with a baby food type substance inside (I'm dead serious), I could have used a straw with it. Then we have the sweet and sour chicken (she made a mistake and thought she got pork). The chicken was in HUGE chunks, the coating was mushy and the bell peppers were like a quarter bell pepper each. The chow mein had chunks of beef that were 3" to almost 4". Last we had a shrimp dish, the shrimp was barely cooked, whatever sauce was on it was like a raw egg consistency and it extremely salty. My reviews will show some serious criticism over some bad meals, this ranks within the top 2 worst I have ever had. A complete waste of almost $100.00 Soong Soong is EWW EWW! The biggest shock is that we din't get sick. We order enough for leftovers, but it was so bad the leftovers went straight into the garbage. Trust me, Stay far away! read more

The staff is really nice and accommodating. This was our first dinner out with a baby in a stroller. I was really surprised they accommodate led my allergy requests (no dairy or soy) because Chinese restaurants usually don't or won't. They said items could be modified and were knowledgeable about which dishes use soy indirectly (like marinated beef). The staff and chef made recommendations and also cooked without soy for us. The chow fun came out really pale and I was worried it'd be bland but it was still delicious. Really happy with the service and meal. read more

I ordered salty sticky rice roll, wanton soup, pancake with Chinese crunchy dough. The sticky rice is unexpected bad. The crunchy dough inside the rice is too soft. I believe they microwaved the crunchy dough. It used to be crunchy inside and nothing like I used to had from this restaurant. Other food is good. I would not recommend the salty sticky rice. read more

We have been wanting to check out Soong Soong. I was excited to see they have tea smoked duck. It was delicious. Also tried their flaky pancake( slightly sweet), beef roll and stir fry- bamboo shoots with snow pea and shiitake mushrooms. All were good. Looking forward to trying other dishes. The service was very efficient. Pretty good service especially for a chinese restaurant . read more
Food: Super authentic Chinese dishes! It's a gem hidden in the plaza. Really love their dishes here and even got a takeout menu copy in our car, so we can order it whenever we feel like having it Dinner time offers free dessert and if you're into Asian foods, you'll love this place! We came here on 9:30am on Saturday, as they were one of the few places open for Chinese breakfast. They do have an expansive menu for Chinese breakfast. The three of us tried the pancake roll with Chinese donuts, Beef Burrito, Fried Chives Pies, and Lamb soup. Food was decent, not the best you can have but for the price it's a good option for Chinese breakfast. read more
I forgot how good this place is. Salty Soy bean milk - This is really tailored to my taste. I've had a few of them at famous restaurants in Taiwan but I like this better. Onion cake - very good. Thin and fluffy. Excellent. Spicy beef noodle soup - the soup flavor is very good, spicy enough but what caught my attention is the texture of the noodle. It's very Al dente. Chicken fried rice - I say it's slightly above average. Not bad. Beijing meat pancake - the meat is firmer than I hoped for but the taste and the pancake crust was really good. Walnut chicken - That was the surprised. My son ordered it and I have lots of doubt about it. I've had Walnut prawns before but Walnut chicken... It turned out extraordinary. I didn't like chicken breast but you couldn't tell the difference. It's very crunchy and chewy. The sauce also very good. I'm going to have to come more often. read more
My family came here on CNY Eve, and it was really packed. We waited around 20 minutes before being able to get seated. After we put in our order, we waited another 20 minutes before receiving our first dish. The dishes came out sporadically every 15 minutes. The flavor of the food was alright - for instance the fried lambchops was overly salted and was somewhat of a letdown I wanted to give Soong Soong a lower rating but it was a busy night for them and the kitchen must have been overwhelmed. Highly recommend the salted soybean milk here, a classic Taiwanese/Chinese breakfast dish that is hard to find anywhere that's authentic and tasty. It's kind of like a salty tofu soup with Chinese fried dough sticks called "you tiao." You can add spicy chili oil and soy sauce to enhance the flavors. The seafood porridge is also pretty good with lots of seafood inside. Service was pretty quick, especially for the earlier mornings/when they just open up. Inside there's pretty nice general Chinese restaurant vibes. read more

Truly authentic Chinese food! There is a private parking lot so there's plenty of parking. From what I heard, the servers can communicate in Cantonese, Mandarin and English! Overall food was great and satisfied me, but i would come back for take out if I was living nearby. The price is reasonable and portions are good. There is a great selection of food as well. What we ordered: Soybean Milk (Sweet) - 7/10 *wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be (make sure to mix up the sugar at the bottom of bowl before hand!) *we were told one bowl (1 order) feeds two. But my party of 4 was struggling to finish one bowl. Green Onion Pancake- 5/10 *seemed handmade, was a bit plain not too flavorful. Will definitely opt for other appetizers! Tea Smoked Duck - 8/10 * flavor was great, meat was a bit tough and bones were still intact with duck. * buns paired well with the sauce and duck. I would definitely give their peking duck a try next time. Rice Omelet- 7/10 * Their house fried rice wrapped in a thin layer of egg. Delicious and had a good mixture of beef and shrimp. The rice was not too flavorful, but not plain. Beef chow fun - 7/10 * I'm a big fan of the wide flat noodles, but it was often bunched up and the sauce did not penetrate well. Open on Christmas Day ! Soong Soong is an intimate dining experience the restaurant inside is not very big but offers plenty of seating . We ordered a takeout order to watch our Faithful 49ers tonight at home with family that's visiting for the holidays . The food here never disappoints we love getting the house chow mein , fried rice , war won ton soup , lemon chicken and lastly the best walnut prawns ever . The service is friendly and patient especially on this national holiday. The service is a bit slower but understandable because of the holiday today . Our Inital Pick up time was 5:54 pm and was able to get my order from the pick up table at 6:02 pm. Self pick up because the staff was busy attending other customers. read more

Soong Soongs... today, the hubby, our daughter & I got up & headed to the Nissan dealership on Stevens Creek to buy a new car. Afterwards, we were hungry & the hubby wanted to take our daughter to a restaurant he grew up going to. So... we headed to Soong Soong to get lunch. The place when we arrived was busy. We had to wait (maybe) 15 mins but, it was all worth it. 1st off... the food is delicious. It's not greasy and you can eat a lot w/out feeling stuffed or you're about to enter a food coma. 2nd, we were a little bummed you can't get the lunch menu on the weekends but, that's ok. Our General Tso's chicken, sesame chicken, beef w/onions & fried wontons were all delicious. The hubby & the kid did share some steamed rice as well. This is not a big restaurant. It's your definition of a "hole in the wall" restaurant. However, aren't those the best places? The restaurant has been in the same place since 1989. It's a wonderful place to eat, take family to experience a new culture & excellent food. You won't be disappointed. read more

Reasonably good at decent prices, so good spot for future takeout or casual meals when the craving for (mostly) authentic northern foods. Stuff from other regions can be a bit hit or miss though. Quality isn't through the roof, but neither are the prices, so fair is fair. Cash discount available. Parking lot is pretty sizable for the strip mall area they're located in, though the sign to turn into is not too noticeable. We had no difficulty finding a spot for Sunday brunch. Soong Soong's sign is pretty large though so it's pretty hard to miss. Service is indeed a bit hit or miss and some staff are much better about it than others, not to mention a bit of push/shove tolerated from clientele as well. Waitlists are primarily paper based, but if you're not vocal enough you can readily be sidelined by a more vocal customer. It can be hard to flag down waitstaff at the right times, so bit of patience goes a ways. Menu is a bit overwhelming in breadth, which is inclusive of more banquet-esque type offerings as well. My brother and I were mostly in the mood for noodles/carby stuff so we hit those notes. Nothing was terribly noteworthy or done particularly well, but all around decent foods. XLB (Xiao Long Bao) - 3/5 Decently rich filling, but the interior integrity of the dumplings is lacking, resulting in an excessively mushy texture. My take is that these might have been frozen. On the positive side, the skin maintained its integrity, even though tin foils are used, which I've had issues with elsewhere. Beijing Style Meat Pancakes - 4/5 Flavor for these boys were basically on point and brought me back to my childhood. However, they are on the thinner side in terms of filling, which in my opinion yields a less satisfying bite. You get more dough covering, but each bite of meat is smaller than optimal. The browning of the pancake was good, but when it got to us it was almost soft on some parts, so might've been sitting around for a bit. Dandan Noodles - 3/5 The dandan noodles were tasty and packed an unexpectedly spicy heat (caught me off guard, and I eat plenty of spicy). Authenticity is debatable though as it tasted more like a northern Chinese take on the dish with a more fermented black bean flavor. The absence of mala was notable and the dish leaned towards sourness with pickled peppers. Didn't seem like the dish had any meat in it either, but the serving size was hearty. The noodles had a good bite and chewiness to them. Beef Noodle Soup - 4/5 The beef noodle soup was decent, but the broth tasted a bit thin and light, despite having a decent mouthfeel. The noodles were of the same type as the dandan noodles, but cooked softer. The dish offered a good serving size of both meats, tendon, and noodles, so pretty good value overall. read more

Happy little find. Wanted breakfast/early lunch fare and this was one of the few places open near us. We had Pork and Egg porridge, Onion pancake, and beef fun. All cooked week with great flavor. The porridge had big chunks of meat and egg, unlike other places. Large selection of lunch specials too. Reasonable pricing, decent sized restaurant but filled quickly after we arrived. Can't wait to come back to t egg the dinner menu. read more
Parking is plentiful. The interior isn't the largest but it can seat quite a few large groups. The ambiance is quite natural. Not too busy nor was it bustling. Food is alright. Portions were quite small for the price. The fried rice was quite salty. I would recommend the glazed walnut chicken breast though. Customer service is quite lacking. I did notice they were quite understaffed though. Overall, Soong Soong is an average Chinese restaurant. read more

4-Stars goes to the food alone! You don't go to a Chinese restaurant and expect a 5-Star service. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. However, Soong Soong's flavor packed and mouth watering dishes make up for all other areas that may be nonexistent (i.e. ambiance, decor, service, etc.) Soong Soong is as authentic as you can get around the Stevens Creek/San Tomas Exp. neighborhood and possibly in all of West San Jose. Whenever you have a craving for authentic Chinese food, Soong Soong hits the spot! read more
