Went to this location again. Big mistake. Ordered the chopped brisket sandwich. It was so disgusting and way too fatty, the other 2 people with me made the same mistake. But to add injury to insult, mine had a bone fragment in it, I told the waitress who basically said that hardly ever happens and that was it. So pathetically bad. This Sonny's location has renewed our faith and taken me back to the Sonny's of old. With the new remodel, the addition of the bar with college football on the TV's this stop is a no-brainer. Stopped for lunch. We were seated right away. My son and I ordered pulled pork sandwich. My son got his on a bun. I got mine on garlic bread. My wife got a burger. Both my son and I got a side of fried ocra, my wife got BBQ beans. Our food came quickly, and our drinks ahead of that. The ocra tasted kind of funky to me, but my son didn't have an issue with his. I told our server about the ocra and she apologized and quickly brought be another choice of side dish. Since my wife said the beans are good, I got beans. The beans were definitely better. My wife said her burger was delicious and ate every bite. My pulled pork was extremely soft. It was the texture of pudding. My son said the same about his. Over all, the burger was the only good meal we had. I will say that our server was very friendly. Had we not wanted to get back on the road to continue our trip, I would have said something. I am sure our server would have taken care offer the problem. Also, my wife wanted baby back ribs, but our server advised against it, saying they were not looking good. We stopped here driving home to Virginia from Florida. It was delicious. We had the sampler, loaded tots, corn nuggets, banana pudding and pork "redneck" egg rolls. The banana pudding was standard. The corn nuggets were sweet and yummy. All of the meat on the sampler was really moist including the brisket which is rare.The loaded tots were very tasty too. We did not get meat on them. A friend and I stopped for lunch... not particularly slammed and not particularly great service. My buddy got the pulled pork on garlic toast which he heralded and a side of mac (which he said was just OK). He ordered beans as well after seeing mine - which never came. He wasn't charged for them either. I got the 1/2 rack of baby backs with beans and broccoli. The ribs weren't bad. They tasted fine, but weren't fall off the bone good. I enjoyed the beans, and steamed broccoli is pretty tough to mess up. Garlic toast was money. I typically don't go to BBQ joints for the bread and veggies though, and with the slow (and forgetful service) I'd probably head to one of the other many BBQ joints around. Ordered a chopped brisket sandwich, the first plate they brought was pulled pork, then the second attempt was 2 dry dry dry pieces of brisket, so a third attempt at correcting my order and they just took the dry brisket they brought out and chopped it up and threw it back on my plate. We stopped here for lunch on our way traveling back to VA. We don't have Sonnys there so whenever I'm down south I make sure to stop in! This location is requiring a mask to come in and is also enforcing social distancing guidelines. Restrooms were clean as well. Their tables were also spread apart to adhere to social distancing guidelines. The food at this Sonnys was on point! I got the pulled chicken sandwich with crispy fries and a side of Mac and cheese. The fries were nice and hot, my Mac and cheese was cheesy and my sandwich was delicious! My wife started out with the corn nuggets and had the Sweet Carolina sandwich! We both had our sandwiches on garlic bread because uhm yum! Our server was great! She kept our drinks full and made sure we had everything we needed! Stopped here as I waited for my ride to pick me up. Loved my server (Melinda or Melissa); she was very attentive. I ordered the sampler and the portions were ok. The brisket, dry rubbed ribs and sliced pork were awesome: very tender. The chicken was disgusting though. The first bite, I thought it was a funky sauce (i was sampling the four they had on the table); then the smell sealed it for me. Gross, gross, gross!! The fries were cold and hard as a rock. The pink lemonade is just colored water. The potato salad was mustard base so didn't really like it. The cornbread was tasty. Not bad for the money, but it seems the place is a crapshoot. Best ribs I've ever had! We got the all you can eat ribs with 2 sides and choice of bread. I had never tried ribs with a dry rub before so I was thinking they would be dry and tough but they were fall off the bone moist and tender. My husband started off with the sweet and saucy kind and quickly changed to the dry rub next. My husbands mac and cheese was very good as were my green beans which were cooked with chopped onion. We were seated quickly and given huge glasses of sweet tea, waitress was very attentive. Only drawback was my broccoli needed seasoning and butter which I could have asked for but just let it go. This place has become one of my favorites recently. I used to frequent the other st Augustine location but recently moved toward this side of town and decided to come in here. My server a very nice young man named Daniel was very prompt getting my drink order and coming back very quickly with my freshly brewed sweet tea which they serve in monstrous cups. One of the local pitmasters that I see at both locations was in the BBQ pit and I can always tell the food will be amazing when he's working. I ordered the pork 3 ways with sweet and smokey St. Louis cut ribs corn bread, Mac and cheese and broccoli. Everything came out within 5 minutes of ordering and tasted amazing. We drank root beer and pink lemonade. They were HUGE!!! 4 stars because even the food was 5 stars, the service was understaffed, and our server only visited us to take our orders and drop off food. Went to Sonny's at Rt. 16 & I95 as it was a convenient location for all of us to meet. There were 12 of us celebrating my husband's birthday. (Yes, he is a big time Sonny's lover and choose the place) We walked in at 5:00 pm on Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was not busy at all! Were told that they could not accommodate a party of 12 - they would have to split us up. They said there was no where in the entire restaurant that could seat 12. I was not too happy with that but decided we would have to make do! The waitress was ok - every time she came to the table she looked a little "frazzled" and in a hurry. She never once came back to ask about our food. (I had already told her to put everyone's meal on one ticket and I would pay so it wasn't that she had to keep a lot of things straight) I was sitting at the table of 3 (the other 9 were about 4 feet away). We ordered all the BBQ chicken as did several others at the other table. The chicken was mediocre at best! Dry and not very hot. I had a baked sweet potato, string beans and cornbread. The potato was not cooked thoroughly and the cornbread was cold. String beans have changed and were not nearly as flavorful as in the past. Worst meal I have ever had at Sonny's. Didn't even finish my meal - terrible. This was echoed throughout the entire group! I will admit we usually go to the Sonny's on San Jose Blvd (we have eaten at the Rt 16 one a few times) the the food is always great. We are members of 'raving fans' at Sonny's and will rethink going there again. read more

I love Sonnys had eaten at a different location earlier this week. Our server was Jake the table was sticky when we asked it to be wiped he explained how it may have happened. But I didn't ask just wanted it clean. Then we got our food everything was good. But when we asked for more wet naps he asked how many, we said a few, there was 3 of us, he brought two more. Asked for to go container, Jake asked if we wanted to go cups he said he could bring and if we needed he could top off but not bring a refill in a to go cups. New policy, location specific. The ladies room paper towel dispensers didn't work except in handicapped stall. But that stall had no soap or soap dispenser. Mens room was fine. read more
