We went to Bono's on a Tuesday for lunch. I got the ribs (St. Louis style) with potato salad and fried corn on the cob. The ribs were very good and the sauces on the table were also very good. The corn on the cob was well cooked and the potato salad was probably the best I've ever had. I also tried the brisket and it was cooked very well and had a lot of flavor. I sat at the "bar" the bbq bar, best seats in the house. Right in front of the pit so you can see the meat you're getting. I ordered the chopped pork, green beans and fried okra, I was not disappointed. The sauce selection was good as well. The pit master and my server were both friendly and the service was excellent and fast. I'm not a local but will be in the area regularly and I have found my bbq place in St. Augustine. The only suggestion I can offer to make it better would be to open up a restaurant in the Savannah Ga area, preferably around exit 87 off I-95. Great atmosphere, food and service. Went for lunch with hubby. Server was very attentive and friendly. We got the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer they were ok. I got the special which was a smoked wing basket. I ordered the wings naked. the flats were great has good smoke flavor and well done the drums had good smoked flavor but were a little chewy probably because they were so big. Hubby had the three meat platter with sausage, pulled pork and brisket. The brisket had a lot of fat on it and not much smoke flavor, pulled pork didn't have any smoke flavor either and was better when using the variety of sauces which are good The sausage was the best. You should not have to douse your meat in sauce to make it taste good. Not sure if we will be back. read more

Wouldn't know how the food tasted. Left after 10 mins today (March 20) around 1212 after being seated without any follow-up. The waitress who sat us practically sat nothing. While traveling through, we asked a couple of locals where the best barbecue place was, and they all agreed that Bono's was it. So glad we asked because we definitely have to agree with them. I got the large rib platter with collards and sweet potato, the birthday girl, got a slawpy pig with baked beans, and my other friend got a three meat combo platter with pulled pork, brisket, and ribs, with a side of collards and green beans. We've have driven by many times but never had stopped by .. they have and average size menu , they have some things that other BBQ places don't have ..Bohos has green tomatoes, sweet potatoes,Brunswick stew , home maid banana pudding among other things .I started with the green tomatoes. My entry I decided to try their beef brisket plater , the beef was tender , but was lacking seasoning. Liked the green tomatoes, great breading. Also the liked the onion rings they held up good didn't fall apart like other places. My wife's wings were delicious they had a nice crispness to them , smoked just right. We have stopped by a few times, but after discovering the BBQ places around St. Augustine our visit was a little disappointing. It took awhile for us to be seated but when we were the waitresses were very nice and attentive. The food is ok, but it is a chain restaurant so I didn't have high expectations. The price is comparable to what you would pay at a restaurant nowadays. As it got crowded it got a lot noisier. Not that it was the restaurants fault but there were a number of kids that were really loud and one who had an iPad that was turned up way too loud. We have two young kids with us so we know what it can be like having kids at restaurants. I would say if you are looking for great BBQ head to more of a local joint. read more

I got my fill with the ribs, corn nuggets, fried okra, sweet potato with yummy cinnamon butter, green beans, mac & cheese and collard greens. No, I didn't eat all of what was served but I got a nice tasting! The collard greens seemed a bit too salty, but it was good anyway. The mac & cheese wasn't the best, but good enough. My favorites were probably the sweet potato, followed by corn nuggets, and then the fried okra. We were seated relatively quickly on a Sunday night around 8; there weren't many people there. Restaurant claims BBQ feast comes with "Serves 3 to 5 people. 1lb. meat of your choice. 1 whole chicken (white and dark meat unless otherwise specified), 3 pints sides, and six toast." However it never came with any chicken or the other half of the feast. The sides potato salad and coleslaw were rancid. Not tangy from vinegar but rancid. The mac and cheese was swimming in watery cheese (if you can call it cheese) and tasted like the pasta had been drowning overnight in water. Quite honestly pig slop tastes better. As for the half of the main entree the brisket. It was tough and chewy and as a formed chef tasted like it was boiled and then microwaved until every last once of life was out of it. We were craving BBQ and ended up going twice while on a two week vacation to the area. The food was very fresh and delicious both times. We had chicken, brisket, ribs, and sausage. It was all tasty. For sides, the Brunswick stew, fries, fried okra, and collard greens were all very good, but skip the coleslaw. Their sauces are yummy as well. Tray of food came out kind slapped on the table. Brisket was cut up and a bit dry - not sure of strategy of cutting up into small piece's - seems like that would dry out the meat even more. Any good bbq place I've been to serves the brisket in nice slices. Rib's were ok but also dry. Chicken was good. One tray was missing the Texas toast. Hello I have never been at this BOBO'S in St Augustine. This review is more for the owner of this business. We had intended to eat there. However, at almost 5 PM, there was not even 1 car in the lot. It looked CLOSED and uninviting. No lights. As we proceeded to drive around the building, we noticed the takeout window open and were told they are open for business. I was hungry. I saw that it had 3.5 stars, and decided to try it. I made a good choice. The staff was very friendly. They were maybe a bit short staffed because of Covid-19, but they were in good spirits. The place wasn't spotless, but I've never been to a good bbq place that was. It smelled like a bbq place nice and smokey. I got the bird dog sandwich, smoked turkey and a sausage link. Both on their own were delicious. The turkey was moist and flavorful. In the past I've visited Bono's many times over the years. I was surprised and left feeling very unsafe after going in to pick up a carry out order. No mask for any employee or most of customers. No sign asking folks to mask up due to the pandemic. Is this a covid denial? My husband and I will not go back knowing the staff could be a carrier. I wear a mask to protect them they need to wear one to protect me. We are both high risk due to age and health. The owners are loosing business and appear not to care. Too bad had a decent business going. I feel sorry for employees who are put at risk. We need to get this virus under control. I was driving down the road hungry for some lunch when all if a sudden my nose detected a smell that could only be one thing, BBQ. There was nothing to do but follow my nose. The wonderful aroma of BBQ was coming from Bono's Pit Bar-B-Q and the parking lot was full of vehicles. A parking lot full of work trucks and vans usually means a place is a local favorite. While looking at the menu I found fried corn on the cob. I ordered a three meat platter with sausage, brisket, and pulled pork with baked beans and the newly discovered corn. A short time latter I was enjoying sweet wonderful goodness of the corn and wondering why I had not discovered this delicacy earlier in life. Let's start with easy location on AIA from the beach, just down the road from the Walmart. Stopped in for some takeout on our way back to the beach from shopping. Building was nice, seating area was nice and clean. Bar area was very small, facing the "open pit" oven. Husband ordered pulled pork stacker with baked beans, and I ordered brisket sandwich. I asked prior to ordering if the brisket was tender and was told it "cooked" for 9 hrs. OK, and added onion rings and potatoe salad. I was told the brisket comes on texus toast garlic bread. Odd to me, but ok I'll try. Paid for it, and went home. Opened the order at home and was shocked. Tiny containers of the beans, potatoe salad and 4 onion rings. The pulled pork was not pulled, but chopped and very dry. The coleslaw on the top was small and looked very underwhelming. The bbq sauces came in prepackaged containers, like in a fast food joint. The brisket was on soggy cold toast, one inch thick, no garlic or even butter. The brisket itself was dry as shoe leather. The dog even found it chewy, as I shared with him as it was not edible for me. I should have paid attention to the word cooked, cuz it was! Isn't brisket usually smoked? Anyway, I don't write many reviews, but I didn't want any visitors or locals to have to experience this as I did. My recommendation, drive a little further and find a restaurant that serves quality meat and knows how to prepare it. read more
