We stopped here because of all the good reviews. It always looks busy and really has a cute setup. I hate leaving a bad review, but I have got to be honest, this was not good barbecue. My husband loves his smoked bbq, but even he gave this a two thumbs down. I had the Beach Bucket with beef. Their "beach bucket" is actually a cardboard pint container with rice, bean and beef. It cost Thirteen dollars! The beef was flavorless chunks of fatty, chewy meat. The only saving grace was the sauce on the side. My husband got the sliced beef sandwich. He kept spitting out fatty chewy pieces that he couldn't eat and he said there was absolutely no smoke flavor. Again, the only flavor came with the little side of sauce. The small potato salad he described as "nothing to write home about". We paid $27.00 and we don't feel we got our money's worth. We won't make a return trip. read more

My friend and I stopped on our way home from Marineland. It was easy to order and take out the food. They have a large menu for such a small place. For my husband and I ,I chose the pork bowl with southern yellow rice, baked beans, and chopped pork on top and a large meat platter with sliced beef, southern yellow rice, and baked beans for my husband. Smokin' D's BBQ (which I wills shorthand to Smokin' D's for the rest of the review) is a small BBQ joint the size of a portable trailer just outside of a Circle K at the intersection of US-1 and FL-206 in St. Augustine. Though small in stature, the restaurant packs a lot of character and their food packs a lot of flavor. First and foremost, Smokin' D's is, as mentioned above, a small place the size of a portable. Take note of that as I did not see any public restrooms (though I will admit I did not ask to use them if there were any) and all seating is outdoors. This is Florida so it will be hot the majority of the time. Add on the fact seating is next to a restaurant that is smoking meat, the heat will definitely be amplified. Yet, outdoor seating is a unique experience on its own too. The pig statue out front, the beat-up old truck, and the mailbox just adds to the ambiance of down country home BBQ cooking. But the main event is of course the food. I will admit the food is a bit pricy but I did not expect any less from a BBQ place receieving the amount of praise they get. I ordered the brisket and turkey combo with two sides and two sauces. I have to say they did an exquisite job smoking the meat. I even tried a couple of ribs from my dad and stepmom's platter and they were delicious. Don't forget to wash it down with their iced tea. I chose to do a half-and-half and it was more than satisfying. When I come around the way to St. Augustine, I will definitely stop by to get more BBQ. I suggest at least checking them out once, but make sure to bring some money on you just in case you want more than just a single plate. P.S. - For all you geocachers out there, Smokin' D's BBQ is GROUND ZERO for a traditional geocache. With corner access, getting to SmokinD's is easy, but parking isn't always so easy. The lot is small, but I don't think that Circle K minds of you park there while you get your order to go. We got a variety of items and made a smorgasbord at home! The meats were all so tender, especially the brisket. The ribs were so delicious and fall off the bone tender. Their coleslaw was crisp and cool and their baked beans were quite tasty as well. Decent bbq spot. The fun corner outside area is a visual crowed pleaser. The old looking cabin, vintage truck and pink piggy are sure to catch your eye. The outside sitting area is made from tree stumps. Not the most comfortable but a spot to sit if you don't want to take to take your food to go. There is no inside seating. Nice sized menu and the meat was tender. Many sauce choices for you to choose from. Overall a great experience. I'm local and have eaten at just about every BBQ place in Jacksonville and all around the Southeast . The pulled pork isn't good . It's supposed to be pulled pork but it comes out cubed and not shredded or tender. ( Not to Mention chunks of fat ) . So it's like chopped cubes of pork that's not very tender. If that's your BBQ thing more power to you but to Me that's not good BBQ . They don't have Mac and Cheese and the sides are not anything to write home about.. it's like rice , coleslaw and potato salad . We were cruising into St Augustine and saw this ramshackle BBQ place next to a gas station. We did a quick check on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Order at one window and pick-up at the next - everything was very fast. Lots of choices. We got ours to go though there are couple tables but not sure the very busy intersection was a great setting for a meal. We got the package with three meats and three sides plus sauces. The ribs were outstanding. Great rub on it and didn't need a sauce. The beef, not a brisket, was very good. The chopped pork was just OK. We did like both sauces - the sweet Memphis and the Texas heat. The beans were very good and a bit different. Prices were reasonable. You should give them a try! read more

Brisket is usually my favorite thing to order, but I don't care for it here. The rice and potato salad sides are good. Skip the bread. It's advertised as garlic bread but it's bland. They have seating, but it's on uneven tree trunks on the side of the restaurant so I'd take it to go. Their other location has some picnic benches. read more

I stopped in a few weeks ago. I'm a brisket fan. They don't do brisket they do beef. I did a two meat meal of beef and ribs. Beef was darn good, ribs big and meaty and tasty. I tried a sauce and went nope. Best dry. Sides were ahh ok. If they were better maybe the fifth star. This place is not a sit down bbq joint. You can sit on cut tree seats and tables though.
