The ribs were not over smoked where the first bite is great and then done after one, not greasy just good eating ribs where you can probe eat that half rack and not bite you back. So I am adjusting my review of this fast food joint, due to the "owners" snooty, uncalled for and violently unhinged response to my review on Google. Wow, I must have really struck a nerve! It's ALWAYS the lackluster places, that don't take constructive criticism very well. You have no idea how much I can smoke, and I will smoke circles around you. How many competitions have you been in again? No need to act all snooty, because your food sucks and you don't know how to carve a tri-tip, nor do you know how to smoke a brisket. And your "professional pitmaster" Can't even smoke a pork butt for pulled pork, but in such a hurry to crank out an inferior product, can only make sliced. What is that, 6 hours on a smoker? Hahaha!!! In my no holds barred review, I actually complimented you on MULTIPLE facets. And since you want to act the way that you're acting and throw a fit because you're serving an inferior product and bragging about speed over quality, I'm going to knock you down to one star! How do you like that? REAL pitmasters smoke brisket (AND PULLED pork) And the last I checked, it's not on YOUR menu. ::shrug:: Your food actually sucks, and I was trying to be positive and give you guys a higher rating, by someone who actually KNOWS BBQ, but since you went and did what you did, I'll just come out & say it! "One" rack of ribs XD. My ribs are Johnny Trigg style, and take 6 hours from beginning to end with another 12 going into prep, and I can smoke WAY more than one rack at a time, dummy. Do you even know what kind of smoker I have? Did you bother to look? Ditch the attitude. Because the only thing you're really got going on for you right now, is that you don't use a pellet oven. How about this, I'll come back through, and take over your operation for a week, free of charge, and show you how it's REALLY done, and get your ratings up a little bit higher, and make sure that not just the locals are leaving your reviews? We'll see who the amateur is then. You have no idea what I've smoked in my life, or the smokers that I've used. You also have zero idea about my culinary past. Rage emotion much? Yeah, that's a telltale sign of insecurity. How about this, I'll bring an offset reverse flow trailer smoker, park it in Circle k, and take all of your business while you're in a scurry "wrapping" your "87 pounds of beef" or whatever it is to a demographic that doesn't know true barbecue, But are just happy to have something other than Mexican and Cuban food. You probably serve "Award winning 'fall of the bone' ribs", which in a competition, you would be disqualified for. Because all you got to do is steam those puppies and then throw them in your traeger (sp?) and slap on your pungent, lame, whack sauce that you emphatically offer, to cover up the inferiority of your barbecue. You should have kept your mouth shut. I compliment you, and you take a dump on me? Y'all better hope a REAL smokehouse doesn't open up in your demographic, because you'll go belly up. We stopped here because of all the good reviews. It always looks busy and really has a cute setup. I hate leaving a bad review, but I have got to be honest, this was not good barbecue. My husband loves his smoked bbq, but even he gave this a two thumbs down. I had the Beach Bucket with beef. Their "beach bucket" is actually a cardboard pint container with rice, bean and beef. It cost Thirteen dollars! The beef was flavorless chunks of fatty, chewy meat. The only saving grace was the sauce on the side. My husband got the sliced beef sandwich. He kept spitting out fatty chewy pieces that he couldn't eat and he said there was absolutely no smoke flavor. Again, the only flavor came with the little side of sauce. The small potato salad he described as "nothing to write home about". We paid $27.00 and we don't feel we got our money's worth. We won't make a return trip. read more

Don't even get me started on the meat (you know their specialty)! When we received the meat, it was wrapped in meat paper.. ewwww! Smokin' D's BBQ (which I wills shorthand to Smokin' D's for the rest of the review) is a small BBQ joint the size of a portable trailer just outside of a Circle K at the intersection of US-1 and FL-206 in St. Augustine. Though small in stature, the restaurant packs a lot of character and their food packs a lot of flavor. First and foremost, Smokin' D's is, as mentioned above, a small place the size of a portable. Take note of that as I did not see any public restrooms (though I will admit I did not ask to use them if there were any) and all seating is outdoors. This is Florida so it will be hot the majority of the time. Add on the fact seating is next to a restaurant that is smoking meat, the heat will definitely be amplified. Yet, outdoor seating is a unique experience on its own too. The pig statue out front, the beat-up old truck, and the mailbox just adds to the ambiance of down country home BBQ cooking. But the main event is of course the food. I will admit the food is a bit pricy but I did not expect any less from a BBQ place receieving the amount of praise they get. I ordered the brisket and turkey combo with two sides and two sauces. I have to say they did an exquisite job smoking the meat. I even tried a couple of ribs from my dad and stepmom's platter and they were delicious. Don't forget to wash it down with their iced tea. I chose to do a half-and-half and it was more than satisfying. When I come around the way to St. Augustine, I will definitely stop by to get more BBQ. I suggest at least checking them out once, but make sure to bring some money on you just in case you want more than just a single plate. P.S. - For all you geocachers out there, Smokin' D's BBQ is GROUND ZERO for a traditional geocache. Great food, fast service! If you're looking for tasty southern BBQ to go, Smokin D's offers a wide variety of meats and sides. The potato salad was especially good. This is not the best bbq I've ever had. The pork is chopped and not pulled pork....i thought a few more hours on the smoker could have helped. With corner access, getting to SmokinD's is easy, but parking isn't always so easy. The lot is small, but I don't think that Circle K minds of you park there while you get your order to go. We got a variety of items and made a smorgasbord at home! The meats were all so tender, especially the brisket. The ribs were so delicious and fall off the bone tender. Their coleslaw was crisp and cool and their baked beans were quite tasty as well. Decent bbq spot. The fun corner outside area is a visual crowed pleaser. The old looking cabin, vintage truck and pink piggy are sure to catch your eye. The outside sitting area is made from tree stumps. Not the most comfortable but a spot to sit if you don't want to take to take your food to go. There is no inside seating. Nice sized menu and the meat was tender. Many sauce choices for you to choose from. Overall a great experience. Stopped here on the way back from Fort Matanzas. We'd seen it on the way there in the morning and the smoky aroma was tempting. We got brisket and turkey sandwiches for lunch and they were excellent!! Brisket had just the right balance of fattiness and savory outer bits. Turkey was juicy and full of flavor. We were cruising into St Augustine and saw this ramshackle BBQ place next to a gas station. We did a quick check on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Order at one window and pick-up at the next - everything was very fast. Lots of choices. We got ours to go though there are couple tables but not sure the very busy intersection was a great setting for a meal. We got the package with three meats and three sides plus sauces. The ribs were outstanding. Great rub on it and didn't need a sauce. The beef, not a brisket, was very good. The chopped pork was just OK. We did like both sauces - the sweet Memphis and the Texas heat. The beans were very good and a bit different. Prices were reasonable. You should give them a try! read more

I'm local and have eaten at just about every BBQ place in Jacksonville and all around the Southeast . The pulled pork isn't good . It's supposed to be pulled pork but it comes out cubed and not shredded or tender. ( Not to Mention chunks of fat ) . So it's like chopped cubes of pork that's not very tender. If that's your BBQ thing more power to you but to Me that's not good BBQ . They don't have Mac and Cheese and the sides are not anything to write home about.. it's like rice , coleslaw and potato salad . I have to admit I was unfair with my last review of smoking D's at the corner of 206 and US one. I eat here regularly and I did have one negative experience.... But it's consistently very good. Today I had a turkey bucket and it was superb! Their barbecue is the best that I've had and their baked beans are to die for. Cute little spot serving up delicious bbq. The chopped pork is amazing and the ribs are so tender the meat falls right off. Brisket is usually my favorite thing to order, but I don't care for it here. The rice and potato salad sides are good. Skip the bread. It's advertised as garlic bread but it's bland. They have seating, but it's on uneven tree trunks on the side of the restaurant so I'd take it to go. Their other location has some picnic benches. read more
