Looking for lunch we found this restaurant. The expectations were high and we were nicely surprised by the level of service. Everything about this restaurant was wonderful. The southern decor and hospitality made the whole experience even nicer. During my visit the restaurant was clean and tidy, the menu was easy to understand and the combos were a great wait to try different meats. I ordered the 3 meats combo and it was delightful. The meats were phenomenal, rich in flavor and very tender. My favorite meat were the ribs. As for the drink I ordered a sweet tea. I was pleasantly surprised by the attentiveness of the staff members. This should be a must visit if you are in the area. I stopped by Thanksgiving Eve and had an excellent experience. Upon entering I was immediately greeted and seated. All the employees I conversed with were friendly and helpful. The bathroom was very clean as well as the dining room. The food was good, but the service was excellent. If I remember correctly, Amy was my server and she took care of my requests very quickly and with care. She got me a refill, closed out my check quickly, and got me a to-go bag ready so I could hit the road. There was a little snag on my coupon deal and she nicely worked with me to rectify that. My coupon came in my email so be sure to sign up for the club. I scored a BOGO BBQ sandwich. The sweet tea was also on point. Not bad but not the best. Bbq beans tasted how the canned ones do, very sweet and good but not homemade. Same with the pulled chicken, bbq sauce is totally sweet. The smokin bbq sauce was the best and not even spicy. It wasn't awful but I've definitely had better bbq, even in California. read more

Nice spacious location. Service was good. We tries all the various sauces on our finger, and all were very good. The meal was good, not great. Hubby and I each had a 2 meats platter, with all different meats and sides. One thing to note about the meats was a lack of smoke, which was weird for a BBQ place. Even the turkey lacked any hint of smoke. The sliced brisket had more of a roast beef texture, which we really liked. The baby back ribs had a tasty sauce but weren't as tender as I would have liked. The pulled pork was very tender. The cole slaw was good and a nice portion. The sweet potato was small and very overcooked. The Mac and cheese was OK, something about it seemed a bit off. The food was delicious! We were all very satisfied. The service was great, I loved that out of all the restaurants I went with my ESA, this one gave us an actual water bowl for my girl! The ambiance was chill, we sat outside because we had our dog and strollers so it was nice and spacious for a bigger group. I've been to this location twice in the last few years. My wife and I went out for lunch today and my chicken was dry last time. My ribs were dry. The staff are very good at this location. They provide quick service and make sure the orders come out correctly. They are real good about checking on your food once you receive it. Overall I think this is the best Sonny's in the area. Great deals on Wednesday in May. read more

I love the fresh hard wood smell once you arrive , makes there BBQ , authentic they say 8 out 10 places that you can smell the smoke means they do it right there . Sonny's BBQ is always a great choice for some yummy bbq! I love to start with the corn nuggets and ranch dipping sauce (I got excited and ate half of them before I remembered to take a photo). I also love the turkey big deal combo. I like to deconstruct my sandwich to eat it. The garlic bread is buttery and I like the sweet sauce for my turkey. I also got the green beans and they had great flavor. The food came out super quick and we had great service in a comfortable atmosphere. The only reason this rates 2-stars and not 1-star was the helpful lady behind the counter who took my order. Other than that...absolutely no flavor! The brisket flavor and texture seemed like it came out of a package in the refrigerator section of the grocery store and warmed up on a steam table. No smoke flavor. No bark. No moisture. Just plain, no good! The chicken was bland, dry, rubbery, and lifeless. To top it all off, when I got my order home and opened the bag I found a pint of bbq beans and not the green beans we ordered. It was rung up correctly on the receipt, the kitchen messed up. As soon as I walked in, I should have known this was a fast food restaurant masquerading as a bbq joint. I drove over to Sonny's to meet a fellow partner for lunch today. Going inside, the interior had a cozy wood shack feel to it. For lunch, I ordered the Sweet Carolina sandwich - pulled pork with coleslaw on a bun or texas toast. Moving on with my review, the food overall was great! The texas toast added a great crunch and buttery taste to contrast with the creamy coleslaw and tender saucy shreds of pork! I felt the mac n cheese was good (didn't resemble kraft lol), but could use maybe some sort of pizazz. As for service, our server was extremely attentive throughout our meal! Overall, this was my first, and won't be my last time visiting Sonny's as it was a good experience! The final rating, for now, is 4/5. Stopped at Sonny's for a quick lunch on our way to Daytona. The servers were extremely nice. One of them shared that they were short-staffed. With that said- we knew we might have to wait a little bit. It wasn't too bad though. I had the baby back rib dinner which came with two sides and a bread. I chose fries and corn on the cob and skipped the bread. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich with home made Mac and cheese. First- my ribs were delicious . I added some sweet and savory bbq sauce (which was available at the table) and they were really good. My fries were crinkle cut and they were as you would expect. The corn on the cob was well cooked, but as we are off season, it wasn't that fresh tasting. Not bad but, it wasn't memorable. My husband's pulled pork sandwich came with coleslaw on top and he said it was delicious. He added the original BBQ sauce and said it was very good. He wasn't impressed with his Mac and cheese. He had hoped it tasted more home made. The place looks new and the bathrooms are clean. The drinks come out in huge cups and the unsweetened tea was just right. We would stop at a Sonny's again. P.S. Always like to give a shout out to places that honor veterans on Veterans day. I ordered the sliced pork sandwich and the meat was tender, not dry. Baked beans was a good sized side dish. The wait was for my takeout food was a bit long but most establishments are short-staff nowadays. They had a small bar area as well as a few picnic tables under a covered area near the entrance to promote more social distance eating. The server was absurd! I left a tip 20 percent and didn't wanna leave anything she was so rude the entire meal. She deff was convict before very scary she accused me of not leaving a tip and I clearly did told me I had to leave cash and then I had to get her to pull up my charge to prove I left her a tip! Many of the bad reviews seem to focus on bad service. My service wasn't good (the servers don't seem to know much about BBQ in general), but that's forgivable. However, the food was complete garbage, and I'm not going to forgive that! The punchline: Sonny's BBQ might very well be the single worst BBQ I've ever had in my entire life. Brisket: F ======== The meat was dryer than the Arizona Mojave desert in the summer. Not an ounce of fat, not a gram of marbling, not a dram of juice. I'm posting a picture of the brisket to show you -- I ain't kiddin, hos! Brisket should be a BBQ place's signature dish -- but this brisket was bone dry. Look at my picture. Do you see any intramuscular marbling at all? Any?!? This bone dry brisket didn't even taste good. In my picture, you can see about a 1mm smoke ring, but I could sense no smoke flavor whatsoever. None. Seriously, dear reader, I get WAY MORE smoke flavor throwing wood chips on charcoal in a humble Weber. This should be an embarrassment! My stupid wood pellet smoker does a better job. On the subject of taste, the brisket had no bark, which is the "BBQ candy" that true BBQ enthusiasts crave. None. When I spoke to the server, she said "Oh, we just serve lean sliced brisket. Macaroni was criminally overcooked: totally soggy. Yuck. There was no cheesy crust. And.... please, Sonny... please tell me that's not Velveeta or cheap American cheese. Broccoli: F ======== The picture says it all. Sonny, are you really serving microwaved frozen broccoli? Seriously? WTF! Loaded Tots: A- ============= This was actually the one thing I actually didn't actively hate. I even liked it a lot. The crispy fried onions were a very nice touch. This Sonny's location is very well appointed. They did a good job remodeling it. It is very modern and clean. I just wish the food was better. The brisket had a good taste to it, but. Was on the dry side. So was the pulled pork. The ribs though, were definitely the star of the plate. Moist, but not too fall of the bone, well cooked with a pleasant smokiness. Definitely would recommend sticking with ribs for your meal. The staff was good, and very helpful. Service was great, I just can't give them 5 stars because of the food. As the menu stated, the "sliced" is lean but if you order the "chopped" it is mixed. Brisket was tasty and moist with almost no fat, just as advertised. Garlic toast was fresh, hot, and garlicky. Had a side of cole slaw that was very good. My wife had the pulled chicken sandwich on a bun, which she enjoyed. Absolutely no complaints. Food was good, hot and service was great. The sliced pork had no flavor. Bland. Again, no season and no smoke. The pulled pork was not pulled, it was shredded and came swimming in a very nasty red sauce. The only reason to pre sauce anything is if the cooks are trying to mask the task of poorly made meat.
