The datil pepper black beans and heirloom tomato criolla gave it a really distinctive Florida and Latin Caribbean flavor. I loved the smoky taste and the portion was huge! This spot off US1 and Arapahoe in the boat building area came highly recommended. Stopping in for lunch at start of the lunch hours I made sure to ask what the soup of Day was. The server did not immediately know but asked someone before that person went inside the kitchen to inquire. It has been over a week since being there but I recall the fresh brewed Iced Tea had a subtle flavor to it. I rate that Iced Tea as good. Server advised this is an Argentinian restaurant and the literature states it is a fire grilled restaurant. Some of the items, like The Trio (of meats) even come with a salad. I had the soup of the Day a spicy tomato soup as well as The Cuban sandwich. The meats on their Cuban included Chorizo sausage and out of this world pickles! Who knew pickles could be so good? Overall, my opinion is I missed mustard and real Cuban Bread being a part of this dish. My friend had "The Trio" but barely ate the salad it came with as "The Trio" portion is huge. I likr how this Argentinian themed restaurant utilizes the local St. Augustine datil pepper as a constant seasoning in 8ts soup and throughout other dishes for amazing flavor. We also ordered the Thursday special, the wagyu Rueben sandwich. I would come back on a Thursday just for this. The house made sauerkraut was great and not over powering. Elizabeth was our server and made great recommendations. Our view was beautiful! Typical weather here, we had some rain come through and they quickly rolled the screens down cause we dined outside. I ended my recent St Augustine staycation with lunch at Asado Life. The interior is stunning, totally my vibe & the outdoor patio areas were equally impressive. I love that they have a grab-and-go selection of meals, sandwiches, sides, and more within the restaurant. I ordered the Al Pastor Margarita and my server told me it was one of their most popular cocktails. After my first sip, I completely understood why. It's crafted with blanco tequila, lime and pineapple agave, Asado Orange Bitters (available for purchase), smoked salt rim, and a grilled pineapple garnish. For my entree, I went with the Asado Trio which includes picanha steak, house-made chorizo, and a signature-spiced chicken thigh. The steak and chorizo were both good, but I have to tell you - the chicken was the star of the show for me which I wasn't expecting. It was so moist and flavorful. Since I eat mostly chicken at home, it's never my first choice of protein when I'm dining out. That should tell you how wowed I was by Asado Life's chicken. The entree came with a house salad which was a very generous size. I really enjoyed their house vinaigrette and the toasted breadcrumbs. The potato salad side was a bit of a miss for me. I did not eat the peppers that came on it which certainly would have added some flavor. It was not bad but needed some seasoning and salt. In retrospect, I should have asked for some of the chimichurri used on the meat trio to add to it. Service was one of the highlights of the meal. My main server Stephanie was great and the servers worked well as a team. I had two different servers deliver my cocktail and then my salad, and everyone was genuinely friendly. This was the absolute worst dining experience I have ever had in my life and I dine out at least 4-5 days per week in all the best spots. There were so many bad things and honestly nothing good except the rainbow we saw going in for dinner. Our friend who lives in St. Augustine wanted to go there for her birthday dinner, so three of us drove down from Jacksonville in two different cars. From the beginning it was a hassle. A hassle to get a table six day ahead of the requested date so we had to go with a 5:45 spot, I called to preorder a vegetable dish as I am a vegetarian and they said the reservation that was so hard to get would have to be cancelled and the entire table would need to do preordered entrees so I passed on that and then I called to ask about the corkage fee to bring my own wine and that was a no. Despite Florida allowing that, I do understand that is at the individual restaurants' discretion, but it is short sighted as that is pure profit for the restaurant. I dine at only high end restaurants locally and when traveling and they all allow byob wine with a corkage fee. We waited for the lady who drove us over to the restaurant to park and once inside (after checking in while she parked and they said we all had to be there), we stood around for another 10 minutes and then asked about our table and the two ladies at the hostess stand did not even seem to know who we were. I did speak to the manager in that time regarding the wine policy and she was not very friendly as neither were the other two people I spoke to on the days prior. When we were seated we were basically told they do things "their way" not that wording but interpretation. You must order everything at once- appetizers, sides, entrees, etc. The exact wording was "it is easier for the kitchen". I am sorry, but who is paying the check here? We did have several special requests regarding no onions for me and a few questions from those of us who had not been there. I knew from the minute we ordered which took us a little time to decide, that there was no way things were going to come out as requested and I was spot on though I did not realize how bad it could get/be. The charcuterie board was a joke. They did seperate the meat from the cheese as asked but it was pathetic and they had the nerve to serve stale Pepperidge Farm assorted crackers with that. A few pieces of other things but primarily PF crackers. Who does that? We ordered two salads to split between the four of us and asked that be the second course along with some bread. Some of the ladies ordered the beef tip appetizer as their entree to follow the charcuterie board and salads. I ordered the vegetable plate and the other lady ordered a filet special. Charcuterie came out and again pathetic, bread came out and beef tips. Not at all what was requested. We watched people get their meals that were seated after us and one and a half hours later we still had no salads. We finally asked another server to help us out and got our salads. Two hours later, we still did not have the vegetable plate or the filet. Needless to say, we were over it and found the manager to cash out and leave. They did comp the food we didn't receive and the apps but not the beef tips, bread, or drinks so we still spent $180 plus tip. In my opinion, they should have comped it all as it was such a terrible experience. We left to meet friends at Pesca Rooftop and they generously offered us some of the pizzas they had ordered as they heard about our horrible experience. We should have just gone there from the start. This was a one and done for those of us from Jacksonville. From service to management to food it was a huge disappointment. I sure hope they have a better team with better attitudes and such when they open in Jacksonville as we have lots of great restaurants here and that will not work here. read more

(From the Sunday menu) I got the lobster gnocchi (see photos), the rest of my party got the Asado bowl, various drinks, and we split a Kahlua mousse cake. Overall, the food was excellent in my opinion but some of my party members found their entree below what they expected for a Michelin recommended restaurant. However, the focaccia and an appetizer with Argentinian red shrimp (cannot remember the name) were well within the Michelin status; as was my lobster gnocchi. The service left something to be desired, however we were at the outdoor portion of the venue. 'Asado' which means either barbecue or roast in Español very well fits this awesome new spot we visited for dinner last night as we had great drinks such as the Gingerbread Old Fashioned and the Witch Brew that was perfect for the cold evening. The appetizers are delicious, the Chorizo Pan and the Sriracha Shrimp was so good, that we did empty the plates as the seasoning was well prepared. For the main course, we had the Asado Trio for less than $40 and it is a combination of Lean Steak, Sausage. Chicken and servings of potatoes and veggies. This reminded me of my traveling days in Argentina as the meats and spices are prepared like this and yep, everything was finished, Burp! Asado Life was the perfect Saturday lunch spot. My husband and I went in with high hopes...and left very full and very happy. We both ordered the Asado Trio (steak, chicken, and sausage) and wow. The steak was cooked perfectly... juicy, flavorful, no notes. The sausage was packed with flavor and honestly might've been my favorite bite. And the chicken? I almost never order chicken when I'm out, but this completely changed my mind. Perfectly seasoned, super tender, and genuinely delicious. Did not expect that. We had side Caesar salads and I have to mention the crushed croutons because they deserve their moment. Crunch in every bite and no awkwardly large crouton situation. I'm so glad I gave Asado Life another shot! My first visit wasn't the best, but this time around, I found much better menu options that really showcased what they can do. I tried the Asado Bowl with chicken and it was fantastic--the flavors were spot on. We visited this restaurant back in May and just grabbed a seat at the bar for apps and cocktails. We had such a great experience we couldn't wait to come back this December for dinner to celebrate my birthday and the holidays. We are still puzzled as to why this restaurant isn't rated higher. The restaurant is gorgeous with beautiful views and inviting decor. The cocktails are perfectly executed and the wine list really compliments their menu. Our server was excellent. He was very attentive and had a friendly and fun demeanor. We started with the miso steak appetizer. The actual name escapes me but it is a flavor I will forever chase. It was creative and bright and truly started the meal off splendidly. My husband and I split the porterhouse (pictured) and it was presented as a perfect medium rare. The broccolini and carrots were delicious as well and complimented our steak nicely. This is definitely one of our favorite all time restaurants. I'm aware this spot is a fan favorite among many locals, and I can definitely see why. I've been here for lunch before but I usually judge a place by the second visit--so my wife and I came in on a Thursday night for a date night. Upon arrival, there was no one at the host stand, and we waited about three minutes before being greeted. Once the hostess arrived, she was very sweet and welcoming. Attentive, professional, and genuinely pleasant throughout the night. Up to this point, everything felt like a 5-star experience. Then came the food. We started with a Caesar salad to share. The portion was great, but surprisingly, it lacked flavor, it was dry and honestly one of the most tasteless Caesar salads I've had. Next were their signature-style potatoes/fries. Visually appealing, but again, they needed salt and seasoning--nothing particularly memorable beyond presentation. For my entrée, I ordered the NY strip. It was a great size, but the execution was inconsistent. I asked for medium, and while parts of the steak hit that mark, other areas were cooked medium-well to well done. On top of that, it lacked seasoning--I actually had to ask for salt. For a $65 steak, I expect it to be spot-on across the board. My wife ordered the short ribs, and that dish was exceptional; tender, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the night. To finish, we had a dessert special: vanilla bean ice cream over chocolate bread pudding. That truly saved the experience and brought the rating back up. It was outstanding. Overall, I'd give this place 4 stars. The service, ambiance, and certain dishes were excellent, but the lack of consistency and seasoning in key items held it back from a full 5-star experience. Beautiful setting, disappointing experience. I won't be back. I've been visiting St. Augustine for the past eight years--my now-husband grew up here, and it's been a joy to watch this historic town grow with exciting, elevated dining options. Unfortunately, Asado Life is not one of them. Tucked away from the bustle of downtown, the restaurant has a gorgeous, modern vibe with serene views of the San Sebastián River. The ambiance is easily 5 stars--open, stylish, peaceful. Sadly, everything else fell flat. The real issue? The kitchen doesn't prepare anything fresh during service. When I mentioned my lactose intolerance (something I've dealt with my whole life), I was shocked by the lack of flexibility. I've dined at restaurants around the world, and even upscale ones with tasting menus have found ways to adjust. Not here. I was told the dishes are all assembled between 2-4pm, and nothing could be modified--not even the vegetable side (green beans, carrots, & potatoes). No swaps, no olive oil finish, not even a "crema on the side" for ceviche. The rigidity was baffling and felt lazy rather than intentional. Appetizers we tried: * Beef Tips - Cooked in miso butter. Group enjoyed the flavor, but they were served in an overwhelming puddle of butter emulsion that everyone ended up pushing aside/leaving * Ceviche - Easily one of the worst my husband has had. Not fresh, not cold, and drowned in crema with no option to modify. * House Salad - The only real highlight. Generous portion, fresh, and the Dijon vinaigrette is light and lovely. Honestly, one of the best things we had all night--and just $10. Mains: Because they couldn't modify any entrée except the steaks, I was basically forced into ordering a plain filet with another house salad as the only "dairy-free" meal option. No veggies, no starch, nothing else. For $60. * Filet (mine) - Cooked medium as requested, nice char. Chimichurri was solid, but the steak needed it--which speaks volumes about the quality. * 16 oz NY Strip (husband) - Opted for the Duck Fat Garlic Confit "steak enhancement" sauce, didn't like it, and scraped it off. He found the steak underwhelming overall. * Filet (father-in-law) - He was satisfied with his, & his finance did enjoy the garlic confit * Branzino Special - Served with polenta and well-executed; this was the only main that felt close to being worth the price Service was subpar. Dirty dishes from our appetizers stayed on the table well into our mains, even after servers returned. Our prosecco toasts sat empty while we celebrated my father-in-law's birthday/Father's Day belatedly. No urgency, no attentiveness. I did appreciate the server kindly taking our photos on the river front after dinner, after all it wasn't busy as she remarked... Worst of all? Clearly the kitchen still used dairy in my steak, chimichurri sauce, or salad as I had GI side effects all evening. Couldn't wait to see what all the hype was. We had reservations and had to wait a few minutes for a table. Not a problem. The problem was they sat us at a four top on the side of the bar in an isolated place. I asked the hostess if we could move to another table. I noticed that there was a two person half booth available. She came back and informed me that that table was reserved. There was no reserved placket on it, and they were seating guests who had reservations as tables came up. Clearly a fabrication on her part. The two people who they seated there were behind us on the list and we overheard them check in with no mention of a reserved table. Extremely disappointing way to start my experience. My wife is Argentinian and there was barely any items on the menu that would qualify it as that type of restaurant. The food was OK, nothing special and they were out of our dessert of choice. Focaccia bread, Service - fabulous, crisp exterior, soft chewy interior. Focaccia Brea and queso - I preferred this version, the queso added so much depth of flavor. Less bread, for sure but so worth it. Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad - are you freaking kidding me, this is one of the best salads I've ever had. Fresh arugula, paired with roasted beets, goat cheese, and a small red sweet peppers. I cannot do it justice so JUST ORDER IT. Baked potato - loaded baked potato was HUGE, not sure I liked the spicy beans on top but everything else was tasty. Green beans - perfectly prepared, delicious. Asado Trio - great way to sample their chicken thighs (fabulous), steak Picahna (fabulous) and chorizo (spicy) and no one was disappointed. Prime Rib - they warned me it comes out rare, but parts of mine were raw. Great flavor on the outside, and the horeseradish sauce was spectacular but the meat fell short of my expectations, Espresso Cake - meh Olive Oil Cake - like a dense pound cake Key Lime Pie - presentation was amazing so was the flavor, so order it. There were three meats that stood out at our table for their spice run/marinade: - chicken thighs - steak Picahna - outside of the prime rib So if you want to hit highlights, make sure you order them. UPDATE: Added a picture of the middle. Definitely not Medium. But once cooked, it was delicious! We had a lot of ouptions on where to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary and we decided to try something new, Asado Life. The ambiance was perfect for a date night. We ordered a salad and the foccacia bread to start, and for our entrees the Hanger Steak and the Filet Migon. This is where it took a turn. Unlike other places that serve steak, Asado "cooks theirs to temp, not too color", which is an IMPORTANT DETAIL that should be explained by the wait staff when taking the order. We both ordered ours Medium and to us, they came out Medium Rare, you be the judge (see pics). Because we saw that the table across from us had already sent his state back. We opted to just box up our entire meal and finish cooking it at home. Other than that, the vegetables were tasty, the steak frites were good and the steak (my husband tasted a small piece of his) was delicious! That's why we only took off 1 star. Will we go back? Asado Life is a beautiful space. The decor is striking, the waterfront setting works, and visually it sets expectations pretty high. That's what made lunch a little disappointing. I started with the Buzzing Black Manhattan with honey brown butter rye. On paper it sounded great. In the glass... not so much. The presentation didn't really land, and the flavor never came together for me. It just didn't hit the palate the way you hope a cocktail like that will. That said, their drink menu is extensive, and I can see how someone could find a favorite there. For an appetizer, we ordered the smoked fish dip. It looked good, nicely plated, and came with freshly toasted bread. Unfortunately, it was very bland. No real seasoning, no depth, just kind of there. Even with good bread, it didn't leave much of an impression. My entree was the steak and gorgonzola sandwich with fries. I'm guessing it sat at the pass while waiting on my friend's burger, which was ordered medium and came out overcooked. The steak itself was seared and rare, which visually was spot on, but flavor and temperature were off. The sandwich was barely warm, heavy on onions and spread, and light on gorgonzola. I wanted more cheese, more balance, and most of all... HEAT. Even the fries were soft and lukewarm. At that point, a theme was forming. Service wasn't the issue, but a fly decided to fully commit to our table, landing on my glass and diving into the fries basket. Not the end of the world, but it didn't help. On the way out, I noticed a fly trap bag around the perimeter, which explained a lot. I'm not writing this place off. The steaks I saw going out for dinner looked excellent, and the private members only bar lounge is genuinely impressive. Very disappointing experience. The restaurant had multiple empty tables available, yet the staff made it clear they had no interest in serving us. We were left feeling unwelcome and dismissed despite there being plenty of seating. Good service starts with treating guests respectfully, and unfortunately that was completely missing here. I sincerely hope the owners see this review, because I doubt they would want potential customers turned away or made to feel unwanted when tables are sitting empty. We left frustrated and took our business elsewhere. I cannot recommend this place based on the way we were treated. read more

Had a birthday celebration. The best gift I could have been given was to have walked in the door - handed them $300 and left for pizza at Pesca Rooftop. Oh wait that's what happened! Lesson learned. I've had lunch there many times and it's been pretty good but when I invite friends and you act like you're the only place in town with the attitude. You just lost my business. We came to celebrate a birthday but since they aren't open for dinner service we decided to go for lunch. The server brought the wrong wine and did fix it when asked. We split the meat trio and the veggie trio. Everything was very good. Everyone agreed the chicken thighs were the best meat of the dish. The back patio area is very cute and we saw dolphins in the water. The artichoke appetizer was also very well liked as well as the bread service. Our server was friendly and attentive. At the end of the experience the wrong wine that was originally rang in was still on the bill but the server graciously removed it. We decided on a Sunday morning that we wanted to go to Asado Life for dinner. We've been meaning to try it, but hadn't yet made time for the 45 min. drive. Well, we finally made it and were so glad we did! Our reservation was for 4:45 and we arrived early (so we still had the option for the lunch menu choices). We sat on the patio and the water view was a bonus, made for a chill vibe. Our server was friendly, told us a bit about the menu and brought our drinks. We decided to start with a house salad, which was perfectly light and refreshing, it hit the spot! For dinner we ordered the trio (for 1) to share (with 2 sides of rice) and it was the perfect amount of food. We requested medium rare for the picanha (steak) and our server told us that's how all their meat is cooked. Unfortunately it came out more like medium (on the med well side), but was still very tender and tasty. I really enjoyed the crispy seasoned crust. The chicken was delicious, love the chimichurri topping. The chorizo was ok, not our favorite. It was accented with broccolini, carrots and potatoes. Those were yummy, wish there had been a few more. Overall, we were very pleased. Atmosphere was 10/10. We explored the little market, loved the option to buy several of the menu items (dressing, chimichurri, etc.). We would have liked to see the outside grills working, I feel like the "show" is part of the draw. Unfortunately they weren't in use when we were there, the server said due to it being a slow night. I had heard about Asado Life from social media, then the feature on the Michelin Guide as one of eight restaurants in the area to be featured, and the new location opening in downtown Jacksonville. I decided to take my family for Father's Day lunch. The directions were easy to follow, and the restaurant was easy to find. There is plenty of parking, and I would recommend making reservations since it gets crowded. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and you can pull your boat up to the floating dock. They have a market of local goods, drinks, and cookware that they use in all their preparation. The open fire grills are fun to watch with large tomahawk steaks hanging over the flames. We were seated at a table with a booth and chairs by the window for a view. Our waitress was friendly but was busy with a lot of tables so the timing between ordering, receiving food, and the check was a little slow. But we went ahead and ordered the Honey, I'm Home! Drink and the Americano burger for my husband and the steak and poblano pepper with a Tractor lemonade for myself and my son. The waitress was happy that I chose to share my food with my son instead of ordering a typical kids meal for him. My husband's drink was strong and made with local ingredients. We liked the tractor lemonade, and my son, who never drinks juices, wanted sips out of the glass. Our food came out, and we started eating. My plate had a huge poblano pepper fried and stuffed with cheeses, plenty of rice and beans, and tender juicy steak. My son loved the rice and beans and kept asking for more. I enjoyed the tenderness of the steak and the juiciness. The poblano pepper had been cooked so well too. My husband liked his burger and fries but was jealous of my steak. We didn't get dessert but I would like to come back to get one. All the dishes and drinks are seasonal. For a lunch with one specialty drink, a canned drink, the steak meal, and the burger it was around $68. I thought the food was delicious and the menu fairly priced. We thought it would be nice to come back for a date night, so we will have to do that. read more
