We stopped into Tangos in Ormond Beach on a whim during our trip to Daytona and what a pleasant surprise! This place is a hidden gem. The empanadas were absolutely fantastic--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. I highly recommend getting them with the garlic aioli sauce on the side; it's outstanding and takes them to another level. The ladies in our group ordered the bowl and raved about both the chicken and the steak versions. Everything was fresh and packed with flavor. I went with the steak chimichurri sandwich, and it was fantastic--juicy, well-marinated steak with that bright chimichurri really hit the spot. Service was spot-on from start to finish. Our server was friendly, attentive, and gave excellent recommendations when we were ordering, which made the whole experience even better. I ordered the skirt steak first, I didn't care for it and sent it back. For me the flavor was lacking and I didnt enjoy the texture of it. The rice didnt have much flavor or salt but the grilled veggies were delicious. I ordered the chicken in place of the steak and that had more flavor than the steak. I wouldn't order it again though. I came here an hour fifteen before closing with my family on a Saturday night and they were busy. No problems getting seated but it took a little bit for our food to come out. It's kind of a fun little Spanish food spot with really great options at a reasonable price. I want to come back and try more but this time I had the chicken rice bowl. Everything was good but the rice tasted starchy as if it weren't washed. I'm not sure if it's supposed to taste like that. The flan was my favorite. It was so sweet and very well textured. I tasted the beef, veggie, spinach and cheese, and seasonal empanada, but the veggie is by far the best. It had so much flavor. And this place is good for all types of casual occasions. The waiter was pretty attentive and never made us feel rushed, despite our being there until a few minutes after 8. Everyone loved what they ordered. My friend got the salmon, and she said everything was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. My other friend ordered the cuban minus pickles, and said it was one of the best she'd had. She lives in Jacksonville, and said she would definitely come down the coast to eat here again. I ordered a fried chicken empanada with salsa criolla, and it was deliciosa. Crispy, well seasoned, and flavorful. I also had the loaded tostones with steak. 10 out 10 recommend. They were so wonderful. The spaciousness, greenery, blue color of the walls, and mellow music gave the entire place a relaxing, unpretentious, easy-going vibe. There were flat screens too! One of them displayed delicious, attractive menu items along with descriptions. That was a great marketing investment. The pictures alone were mouth-watering. The menu had a very nice variety of options. There were salads, rice bowls, hot sandwiches, burgers, a kids' menu, specialty entrees like seafood and steaks, pinchos (marinated, skewered meats), and desserts. There are lunch specials during the week and beer & wine are offered. If you go, you'll find something delicious to eat. Service was straight-forward and we didn't wait long for our food. The "Hubs" said that his classic Cuban Sandwich was the best that he's ever had, due to the tasty, tender, juicy pork and homemade bread. At first, we thought a few items seemed rather pricy, but I quickly noticed the quality, taste, and attention to detail with the food. You can taste the love and care in the food. Okay, I'm gonna be honest...I don't know if it's Ormond Beach area, but so far I have visited a few different restaurants in this area and they all aren't at all friendly (with the exception of Peach Valley Cafe) At any rate, I visited this place twice to try their beef empanadas. Out of five stars, they get a 4....mainly because they are very VERY greasy, too much oil for me. But I'm giving the overall rating a three because the staff just aren't friendly, they're very stoic, stuck up like spoiled yuppies from the east or west coast. I can't say this speaks to the overall staff because I have only been there twice, but I wasn't impressed the second time around and actually had anxiety from walking in....no lie...AND I actually regretted leaving a tip. IDK...whatever vibe is off in the atmosphere, they need to address it because so many restaurants are closing down, not for all the same reasons of course, but we do see it happening, even our favorite ones! DH and I wanted to try this place out because of the reviews on Facebook and here. We arrived at 11:30 and were greeted right away and warmly by the gentleman behind the counter. We sat down and Allison came over to serve us. She brought us our drinks while we looked over the menu. We ordered 3 empanadas (beef, chicken and spicy chorizo) and continued to look at the menu. We ordered the surf and turf for DH and Churrasco with 2 sides (tostones & rice and black beans) for me. The food was delicious! The chorizo empanada was spicy as it said but really good. The beef and chicken empanadas were moist and amazing! The Surf and Turf was fantastic! The shrimp were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The picaña steak with chimichurri was extraordinary and my Churrasco steak was amazing. The tostones were great and the rice and black beans were Soooo wonderful! DH doesn't really go for rice and beans but he couldn't stop taking "samples" from mine. :) Allison checked in with us and refilled our soft drinks when we needed it. We enjoyed the food so much that we took "Shrimp Pinchos" and grilled vegetables home to eat this evening. We also ordered a tiramisu for dessert for tonight. The ambiance was nice and open. All tables and chairs. I honestly thoroughly enjoyed my food, service and environment except for the chairs (yes, I'm being picky). The metal chairs were ok but the fact that they were narrow bothered DH. This is the ONLY bad thing in this entire review. That is the only reason why I gave them 4/5 stars.
