The atmosphere is incredible--great energy, lively crowd, and just an all-around place you actually want to hang out in. The service was absolutely fantastic, attentive without being overbearing, and made everything feel easy and enjoyable. The artist playing brought the whole place to life with loud, high-energy music and an awesome song selection that kept the vibe going the entire time. Got there on a Saturday around 2:30-3pm. Great location by the river. Place was 30% empty but I was not offered a table being by myself (althought they were plenty of tables available). I was kindly asked to sit at the bar. Totally understood from their point of view. The food I got was great: great taste, great presentation, but... 40 minutes wait for raw fish (ahi tuna...)... come on guys!!! On top of this, the bartender (the male) was already nervous on something (I should say "pre-pissed") before I even got the chance to sit or order anything... "No worries" I said to myself, "maybe someone earlier pissed him off, or on, or maybe I reminded him of someone he profoundly disliked". "Fair" I said to myself. "Will start ordering drinks and food and he will eventually melt down"... Well, when asking if there are any news about my tuna, he said "I have no idea, I didn't go back to the kitchen yet"!!! Interesting, I said. Will wait for 5, maybe 10 more minutes, finish my beer and will ask for the check... Luckily for my stomach, my ahi tuna eventually reached me, delivered by a super nice, friendly, cute and smiling female bartender. Only this, along with the great taste and presentation of the food on a black rock slate, with sauce and seaweed kept me patient, down on my stool. Well, I needed to request a glass of water and I'm happy he didn't throw it to my face as he did with some coasters minutes earlier... GUYS, Owners of this place... Maybe you, Johnnie! Make sure your boy doesn't splash someone in the face! Pay him well, give him a raise or give him some a shot of something to chill before he starts his shift. Lunch today with a friend- we sat on the deck with gorgeous river views. We had heard a lot of good things about happy hour, but wanted to try lunch. I ordered the curried chicken salad on Texas toast and it was delicious. Very little mayo- which was great - although some "homemade mayo" came on the side and for a non- mayo person, I tasted that and it was good!! The fries are crispy and nicely seasoned. My friend had the coconut shrimp basket with a side of the cucumber "something" which was like pickled cucumbers - very good. Jordan was our waitress and she was excellent- checked in several times without hovering! I came to Daytona to visit my friend. As soon as I got there, she took me to this restaurant to eat on the water. We sat at a high top on the outside deck. The weather was beautiful. You could see all the boats passing and a woman and her two dogs on the paddle board. The waitress was sweet. I ordered a mango margarita with a sugar rim and the chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was HOT! After we finished eating, we went inside to sit at the bar. The bartender was really nice and talkative. My friend ordered another drink and we hung out for a bit. I recently visited Riverside Johnny's and had a mixed experience. The burger itself was decent and had more of a thin, almost smash-style patty. It tasted good overall, but the burger and fries seemed to have very similar seasoning, so there wasn't much uniqueness between the two--nothing that made me think, "Wow, that's amazing." I also tried the Buffalo Mac n' Cheese. It sounded great on the menu, but it ended up being pretty average. The buffalo chicken mixed in was okay but not memorable. I'd give that dish a 2/5. The coconut shrimp was another item I had high hopes for, but it turned out to be mediocre as well. On a positive note, the restaurant itself is nice, with great views, a clean atmosphere, and a bar that looks really good. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. Overall, I'd rate Riverside Johnny's a 3/5. It was an okay experience, but it wouldn't be my first choice to return. read more

Four of us came here a few nights ago. We had a burger, fish and chips and fried shrimp. All the food was good, but not anything special. The grouper used in the fish and chips had no flavor. The Bloody Mary I had was not very good unfortunately. The service was pretty slow, and the kitchen (we were told) messed up our order and brought the wrong food for one of us in our party. Overall this place was good...some things were excellent and some things were just good. We're a family of four with two young kids ages 8 and 11. The inside and outside of the restaurant was very modern with TVs and beautiful views outside. Typically when we go to places that have an expansive menu the kids just end up getting the generic tenders and fries or burger and fries. Our sons enjoyed their food, one had tenders the other had a burger. I do have to mention that one of our sons has a shellfish allergy and we were disappointed to learn that they fry everything in the same oil so he couldn't have fries or the wings we had. It really limited his choices. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but we were initially told that they do have separate oils it wasn't until right before the food came out that another waitress came and told us, thank God for her. My son was super disappointed but better that than a medical emergency. The drinks were good and the price was decent. The grouper tacos were very good!! The Korean wings were amazing!! I would definitely order those again!! Not sure if we'll visit here again but definitely a cool spot with a very expansive menu. read more

It was a perfect, warm and sunny day with a light breeze,the Sunday before Memorial Day. We came in around 4pm, intending to stay for an early dinner. But, after we tried the oysters, we just got a sandwich and left. Oysters - VERY sandy and lots of shell pieces. Even the outside of the shells had not been scrubbed. Of course, you're supposed to try to keep all the oyster liquid in the shell but very few of ours had any/had already been spilled. With the huge amount of un chewable stuff inside, I wished I could rinse them off! I only managed 2. And we only got 11. And 1 of those 11 was an empty shell with just a piece of muscle remaining. But hubby was hungry, so we went ahead and ordered Blackened Grouper sandwich - The fish was ok. Not very black, not too overcooked, not a huge size, pretty unremarkable. And the brioche bun was dripping with butter, both on the sandwich sides and the sides you hold. The thing that made me decide not to get anything at all, though, was that they somehow screwed up the fries. I could not believe how dry they were. The only way I know to get fries this dry is to re-fry them 2-3 times (or more). Hubby used to be a fry cook and he gave a careful test taste for old oil. He thought the oil was old but not THAT old, and he also could not understand the dryness. I came here with a group of 12 and it was an interesting time. We sat down and we waited a while for our waitress. When she finally came, we were ready to order and the food came out in various groups. My food came last. I got the clam chowder and grouper tacos. The clam chowder was great. The tacos were inedible. So bad. They did have these sweet potato tater tots that were delicious, but that was the best part of the meal. Stopped in for lunch. It was really dead which is surprising for a place that's only been open for a few years. Ordered a pina colada with Malibu and it had myers dark rum. It was okay but Malibu would have made it better. The grouper and hangover burger was good. The only downfall was the old cold fries. There were 8 people total there and we received old food. The service was okay but she didn't take any dishes away. It's hard to enjoy the space when you're surrounded by dishes. The place had a great view and it was in a good location. Came here for dinner and sat on the water. During the week you can get happy hour appetizers. The boneless wings are good and the BBQ sauce is made in house. I got the BLT with avacado. It usually comes with Texas toast but I got it in a wrap to decrease the bread. Did not care to much for the avacado as it was a spread and not whole pieces. The sweet potato tots were good. We also sat outside which was really nice and when the sun starts to set and gets bright they have shades they can bring down so you don't get blinded. I was in Daytona for the weekend for my daughter's cheer competition and needed to find a spot during downtime for lunch. Riverside Johnnys was great. The place looks really cool in the inside. They have a ton of TVs. I bet it would be really cool during a big game. The food was excellent. My wife's burger was messed up and the cook came out before the food even came to the table and told us the issue. They remade her burger and took it off the check. Was lucky enough to find this place on a Friday afternoon while in town for the Turkey Rod Run. Started off with the Clam Chowder, it wasn't as hot as I would have liked but it was still very good. Next I had a dozen grilled oysters. They were undersized but again, very good. For an entree, I had Salmon, Mac and Cheese, Cucumber Salad and Coleslaw. All was excellent. My friend had the Fish and Chips and said that his was excellent as well. The atmosphere is very nice with an outside deck overlooking the water. Riverside Johnny's was great. A few of us went while traveling for work. There is a parking lot so no stress parking. They have an awesome outside space overlooking the river. Our waitress was super attentive and the food was yummy. We started with the KFC wings and were NOT disappointed. They were crispy and the spice/tangy combo was perfect. We ordered the RJ's Paradise and 2 special margs for drink. They were all yummy! For mains, one person got the steak. It was cooked perfectly and juicey. Two of us got the shrimp tacos. My coworker got her shrimp tossed in the bang-bang sauce and I got a side of sweet Thai chili sauce. Without these additions, there wouldn't have been enough sauce on our tacos for me. Hayley C was our server and she elevated our dining experience to a 5 star rating. Hayley C was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Hayley knew the menu and the restaurant history inside out. Now, on to the food, which was outstanding too. We star with a 1/2 dozen oysters and a clam chowder. Oysters were a bit on the small side but the soup knocked it out of the park. For lunch we had the Classic BLT and the 5 Wings and fries. Let me tell you, like we told Hayley, these were the best wings we've ever had *and we've had a lot of wings. Picture this: It's the first day of your long awaited vacation. You've arrived at your AirBnB, started to unpack, and begin to investigate the local surroundings. Then, the inevitable question comes: "What are we doing for dinner?" I mean, no pressure! It's only the first night and everything has to be perfect. Perfect, I say! Maybe that is slightly exaggerated, but only slightly. There are only so many dinners on vacation, so you want each one to really count. Vacation dining needs to be laid back, provide a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere, and provide delectable eats. And when I'm near the water, exceptional seafood is mandatory. Riverside Johnny's checks all of the necessary boxes. A quick Yelp search for seafood restaurants near me lead me to this eatery right on the water, which is my favorite location for any seafood restaurant. Looking over the Halifax River (part of Florida's Intracoastal Waterway), Riverside Johnny's was a pleasant surprise. I've been to a lot of these types of eateries over the years. I know exactly what to expect with their fried fish platters and coconut shrimp appetizers. But Riverside Johnny's was different. The atmosphere was great with a table right next to the rail overlooking the river. The vibe was laid back. But that food! OMG! The food was truly the star of the evening. We began with the smoked fish dip. It was actually a cold dip, which I was not expecting. But it was refreshing and yummy, like an elevated tuna salad. I had the blackened grouper tacos and they hit! The shrimp tacos were also delicious. Kids will be kids and got chicken fingers with fries and mac & cheese. We also got a side of mac & cheese. I always get nervous about ordering kid's mac & cheese at a restaurant. Like, did I just pay 8 dollars for a 99 cent box of Kraft? But holy shite balls! This mac & cheese at Riverside Johnny's was gourmet. Creamy, with an extra melted layer of cheddar on top, and made with cavatappi pasta. I've heard that the best mac & cheese is made with cavatappi, and I think that is some pretty sound advice. The only drawback to the evening was the service. Our server was kind and helpful, but missing at times. This didn't really take away from the evening for me. I enjoyed just sitting and relaxing by the water. I didn't drive 15 hours to be rushed through dinner. Sit back, take a breath, enjoy the gorgeous sunset over the water, and take another sip of the ice cold mojito. Am I right? Seriously, slow down people and enjoy the moment. May I finish by getting on a little bit of a soapbox issue: tipping. Specifically, tipping when the service is less than stellar. I always tip at least 20% regardless of the level of service. And I really feel that you should do the same thing. Now, I'm not talking about tipping when I pick up a carryout pizza order. I'm still coming around to that. But honest to goodness tipping when you have a server who is depending on your tips for their income. Listen... I've had a lot of different jobs over the years. And if my employers always paid me based on my performance and productivity, I probably would have been homeless at some point in my life! Tip the 20%. Don't give some poor server anxiety about whether they can pay their bills just because they had a bad night or the kitchen was slow. I truly believe the universe will return what you put into it, and I think tipping is an easy and simple way to put out some good vibes. In this dumpster fire world, everyone needs a little positivity. So, don't hold back. Give the 20% (or better!). I don't know if tipping is what Gandhi had in mind when he said to "be the change", but I think it's a pretty good place to start. read more

My friend went for the Classic Margarita -- tart, smooth, and just strong enough. Both were perfect for sipping by the water.
