Menu on the Wall

Hubby and I were looking for a quick meal, other than fat food. We were on our way to another eatery and since hubby wanted a burger we found Jimmy's Hula's. Well, there wasn't signage to 'seat yourself' or 'wait to be seated' which was a bit confusing for the first time. Nor was there a greeter/host for seating. The guy behind the bar just looked at us as to say 'don't ask me'. Overall, the staff attitudes were a bit off putting due to their lack of 'energy'. The food... Hubby ordered a cheeseburger with fries. It looked tasty and he enjoyed it. My fish taco was tasty. The negative part comes to the side of tortilla chips. They tasted stale, old, and were cold, like they sat out for a day or more. There were approximately 8 chips or so on the platter. The overall look of the place was very eclectic and definitely had a beach + Jamaica vibe going on. The wall decor was quite varied, which lends itself to that unique vibe. Also, the restaurant was colorful and somewhat nicely color coordinated. The glass garage doors captured that eclectic atmosphere too. Unfortunately, we'll not visit again. It's important to maintain a welcoming atmosphere, fresh sides, and a sense of customer satisfaction. Too bad. BTW, the ladies room could use a bit more cleaning.

Jimmy Hula's is incredibly dependable in Ormand Beach on Granada that serves as a friendly come-as-you-are tacos and bowls joint for locals and those visiting that know about it from the locals. The tacos are magical as I devoured each of my three with voracious glee. The servers are very friendly and patient, and we had our food within a few minutes of ordering. Sitting in the outdoor seating area, I enjoyed the Luau tacos that were made with teriyaki chicken, pineapple mango pico, and creamy teriyaki sauce. The fire-roasted avocados were also very creamy with spice from the hot sauce basted on top. The vibes are very chill and relaxed. They have a full liquor bar and the colors of the walls and trim represent a relaxed cabana environment that could be on an island retreat. Would return to try more of the menu, without question.

A true vibe... Nestled in a shopping plaza, you'd never expect to stumble upon this hidden gem of a restaurant... The quick service style mix with upbeat atmosphere and great live music makes for a real treat! The prices are incredible, and the food speaks for itself. Things tend to take a little while, but it's great food and Gets to be quite the hopping spot!

My go to stop on vacation. A must at least twice during the week, and one of those has to be to go eaten on the beach. The flavor combos are outstanding, and never disappoint. The Kingston taco is a MUST! 10/10

This hit the spot! Having never been here before, I didn't know that it was a local Florida chain. Now I just wish that they had more locations across the US! I came in with my mom for a quick lunch. We walked inside and ordered at the counter, grabbed a number, and sat on their covered patio outside. It's in a shopping plaza, so not the cutest of views, but we wanted to enjoy the warmer weather. The young man who took our order was very kind. Our food came out within I think about 10 to 15 minutes? (We came on a Wednesday late afternoon with rainy weather) The Zion Bowl was absolutely to die for. Now I just wish I had the recipe recipe for myself so I could make it at home. My mom also said that the Pokado also really filling with the grilled avocado and poke on top. If I lived in the area, I would probably have this for lunch at least once a week. We left feeling so satisfied and full. Also, the price point was pretty awesome in comparison to what it'd be at home. Jimmy, two thumbs up!

Burger with bacon lettuce and pickles

The wipeout tacos were really good. They have fries inside them which was a weird concept to me but they ended up being really good. The chips that came with them were stale. The waitress/cashier that took our order seemed like we were bothering her. There was a one man band playing live. I wasn't a fan of the order at the bar and then sit at the table. No service at the table at all but I guess that their restaurant model.

Slow and the place is filthy. The food never comes out at the same time and so you can't eat together.

This restaurant was so extremely laid back with some outside table service. We went inside and found a high top in the rear near the bar. Deacon ordered Sprite, Kayla Diet Coke and Saige & I ordered half / half Iced Tea and Saige a regular tea. The restaurant has very interesting artwork on the walls that has inspired Saige to deprecate in her Art Book. Saige wanted Chips & Salsa *which is a firey- heavy spiced Pepper salsa extremely thick like paste and very good! She also wanted Mozarrella Sticks. Deacon took the Steak Quesadilla with French fries. He absolutely LOVED! We had to slow him down because he was gobbling them down. Kayla went with a Large Over-Stuffed Burrito and I gladly chose the 3 Chicken Street Tacos with side of Black Beans and Rice!! The food is extremely amazing!!! Definitely going back without hesitation! Our waitress was SUPER AMAZING! She checked on us regularly! The chips and Queso Sauce Deacon got was extremely good. They even brought him a sample before he ordered. He gave everything a Big Thumbs!!! If you are in the Ormond and Daytona Beach ever, try it out!!! You will not be sorry you ate here!!!

Chips and salsa were also served by the time I returned from the restroom. This restaurant definitely has speedy service! After looking over the menu I chose the fajita salad as it was on a lunch special. The salad was alright. I didn't taste the onions or bell peppers that made it different from the taco salad. The chicken had a lot of flavor. I had a water, but wanted horchata which they did not have at the time. Our server, was amazing! Very attentive and friendly. The chips and salsa were also delicious. While eating the music was frequently cutting out and changing from more traditional Mexican music to rap and back and forth. Overall, I am not sure I will return as Ormond has serval better Mexican options nearby.

I only tried the al pastor, but I am sure everything tastes divine. I will be going back a lot so I will update the review accordingly. Our waitress' name was Kata (nickname for Katalina). The service she provided was fantastic and she also spoke Spanish which I loved. I felt like I was back home speaking with my own family. The ambiance was amazing as well. They have a beautiful mural of Frida Khalo which is perfect for photos -- it's so beautiful! The spot is quiet when I went today around 1500 (3pm). I loved it that way because that's what I prefer, but if you're into live music and more people then they have this option for you as well. I believe they have live music every Friday of the month. It's live mariachi band and you get to enjoy some yummy drinks and of course the delicious food. I am literally so crazy about these tacos -- it's the best I've had in this area all together.
