Just an update on my previous review. Monarca is a family favorite (both for those of us who live here and for family who visits from out of town!) First, love the decorative monarch butterfly decorations throughout (hence the name, natch!). The service is always great - Sonya, Maria and the rest of the staff will take excellent care of you. My favorite drink is the blue organic margarita - tasty AND pretty. My favorite go-to are the tacos - I've tried the grilled chicken, grilled steak, shrimp and birria - all so good! My favorite is probably the shrimp taco (served in a corn tortilla with fresh avocado, cotija cheese and a cilantro lime mayo). I also love the Maya quesadilla (available with chicken, steak or shrimp) - roasted corn, black beans and more! Hubby's favorites are any of the steak dishes (including the brochetas) and the Santa Fe salad. I will have to add more pics of other dishes going forward. read more

Great find! Restaurant is clean and staff is attentive and kind. Food was fresh and flavorful! The enchiladas and the Flautas both tasted SO FRESH! We are pretty picky on our enchiladas rancheros, this one is a little different but tasty in its own right! Would def get it again. However this place seems to be one of those Mexican restaurants where you may want to branch out and try a few new things off their menu and we may do just that next visit. The chicken in my Flautas was so tender and soft inside a fresh crunchy corn shell with excellent flavor - yummy!! The refried beans were delicious!!! To me if you can't get your refried beans right, then usually that means we won't be back. But not the case here!! :-) read more

Came back to Monarca to have great outdoor seating and some great food and drinks. Unfortunately that didn't happen. After our menus were brought out it took awhile for a server to come out, when she did we ordered a pitcher of margaritas and queso dip. Our pitcher was brought out with salsa and tortilla chips. We placed our order, my husband ordered burritos and I ordered a fried fish taco. When our food was delivered (by another server) he asked if we needed anything, I told him we ordered queso that we never got and my husband ordered a habanero salsa with his burritos that wasn't there. Well it took another 10 minutes before it was delivered. Marie (the first server) dropped the ball and it went downhill from there. When they serve my food, it's was too spicy. And I asked if they can change it to non spicy, and they have the nerve to wait it's was the cheese, ok? So take the cheese off, they brought me the same dish back without the cheese, and it's still spicy! I said it's the chicken and they said they don't put spices in chicken, ok? So why my mouth is on fire, and they got mad and said it's me, not their food. What?!? Are you freaking kidding me? So disappointed and most definitely not returning, that's for sure!! read more

Flautas and tacos were good, rice and toppings were okay but the beans tasted strange. My husband and I both agreed and didn't eat them. They didn't taste bad like we'd get sick but they were different and we simply didn't like the taste. Server was good but not very personable. Just took orders, brought food and ran the check. Let's start with the complimentary chips and salsa, shall we? Loved them! Some Mexican restaurants no longer offer these and we avoid those restaurants at all costs. We had one in Altamonte Springs that offered "complimentary" chips and salsa with the purchased an appetizer! What?!?!? Yes! Here you get 2 free baskets and then pay $3.50 for additional baskets which we think is brilliant! 1 or 2 baskets is more than enough for us especially considering how quickly most entrees come out of Mexican kitchens. The tacos were great and they allowed us to mix and match different shells and chicken/meat. Full bar with some good brews and the churros we had for dessert were delicious. Actually it was pretty good. A little slow on the service but overall not bad. Good selection on bar and beer selection. I had the crab and spinach enchilada and candyce had the chicken skewers. She let me try to the chicken skewer meat. Really tasty. The taste on the enchiladas was a bit strong. Probably won't order those in the future. Very nice place with good artwork on the walls. Monarca Mexican proved to be an incredible find for well prepared Mexican cuisine. Our server Adri C served us beautiful plated dishes that were equally tasty. The plating surpassed any I've seen in a Mexican restaurant- simply exceptional. Arrive early to enjoy happy hour margaritas. Went for lunch and the portions were pretty large for lunch specials! Drinks were also super good, drinks are just a little bit expensive.

It was 90 degrees out and I was done with my errands, so I decided to swing into Monarca for some lunch and most importantly, a Margarita. The Sandia Margarita was made with fresh watermelon and the glass was rimmed with tajin. It was exactly what I needed after melting outside all morning. I made quick work of the birria tacos which were filled with tender beef and melty cheese. The consommé was flavorful and had a healthy amount of fresh cilantro, which I loved. Everyone I interacted with with friendly and my server came to check on me to make sure I was enjoying my meal. My tacos came out super quickly, too. I will certainly be back for another one of those margaritas soon! read more

We are from Ca originally and Mexican food has been hard to find that is the style we are used to. This place is it!! First the service was first class our server was so friendly and helped us w any questions we asked. The restaurant is also very cute and clean and bathrooms were clean and stocked. The food was delicious. We had the large guacamole which was so good. Also the salsa was on point! The veggie enchiladas were so good. I will say the shrimp tacos were delicious but the shrimp was a bit overcooked. That is the only negative I have and it was only minor. The shrimp cocktail was great as well. Monarca will nickel and dime you to death. Want an extra dollup of sour cream? $2.00. Extra chips and salsa? $3.50 per table. Both chips and salsa are smaller portions than other places. The service is sub-par too. Long wait to place our order. Other tables got waited on while ours was skipped. Drinks went empty for a long time. Was asked if I wanted a refill of unsweet tea. Yes, but was served sweet tea. The server snatched the glass off the table and said "No it's not!" and wanted to argue about it. That was the final straw for me. There are many other Mexican restaurants in the area that don't nickel and dime and provide better service. I will not be back. read more

Food is authentic Mexican food and you can taste it! I've tried other Mexican restaurants but this one tops the list in our area! Service is good and ambiance (including actual Mexican music) is welcoming, clean dining area and well lit. Will keep going back for sure! read more

We ate there last night early, around 5. The chips and salsa were delicious, especially with the quest/bean combo dip. The dip was generous and we saved it to have with our dinner. I had 2 margaritas, one watermelon (Sandra) and the other Andiamo Diablo (I think). The both had the signature volcano salt rim and nice plastic straws. Both were tasty, but I preferred the spicy one! I didn't get the strong tequila taste that other reviewers have mentioned. Maybe it depends on who is working. I got the chili rellanos and hubby got the beef and chicken combo fajitas. The fajitas were delivered sizzling and with plenty of peppers and onions, and tortillas. He liked it, but not as much as mine. I tasted and thought they were on the level of Chevy's (which I don't think this chain is in FL). So, they were good, nothing wrong but not wow. My chilis were nicely cooked, with good cheese inside. The guacamole did not look like it was made today but it tasted fine. I put the bean dip on my rice since my dish did not come with beans. This was delicious! I enjoyed my rellano and saved the second one for another day. So far, this is the best Mexican I've had in FL. The decor of the restaurant is clean and nice, bright and new. The outdoor patio was inviting, but we preferred to sit in the bar. We saw a table of restaurant family members eating there too. Always a good sign. Service was very attentive and accommodating. Date night consisted of a trip to Monarca Mexican Cuisine & Tequila Bar on West Granada in Ormond Beach it was our first time and we ordered the fajitas mexicana and the chori pollo. For drinks we got the house margarita and the strawberry margarita (they definitely don't skimp on the tequila ) When I tell you that we ordered and within 10 minutes had our food, I mean it. From sitting down to finishing we were only there maybe 45 minutes. Such quick but great service. The food was AMAZING. So so delicious and it's safe to say this is our new favorite Mexican spot we can't wait to go back and try more! For 2 drinks and 2 hefty portions of food, alongside complimentary chips and salsa, our bill was only $60! YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE OUT!! 10/10 read more

I ordered a Texas Margarita on the rocks and she offered to hand mix it for me as I like the Grand Marnier on the top. When I received the drink it did not have any Gran Marnier in it so I asked about it and she said .. oh I forgot. And she poured a float on top of the drink. When I got my bill I was charged and extra $7.99 for the Grand Marnier which is supposed to be in the drink in the first place! I should not have had to pay extra. Visited on our way back to Daytona beach. Google review had 4.9/5 and Yelp review had 4.5/5 i personally think it's probably a 4.6/5 below are the reasons. Environment: relaxing, quite, there's a bar area and several booth/table seating. Some cinco de mayo decors on the wall. Big Mexican theme. Service: everything coming clear and fast except for I kind of have to gesture the lady to take the check. Food: I ordered Molcajete Special which is a slight tweak from fajitas. The presentation of the dish is phenomenal! You got meats and veggies still sizzling with light cheese on the top. On top of the hot dish also lays a slide of radish and two slides of lime to enhance the taste. The serving size is reasonable for a dinner order but the dish is slight over seasoned to start with and got almost salty towards the end. I ordered this dish bc I was hyped about the grilled cactus. Ended up not being able to identify them. Maybe there are too similar to the green peppers. Slide plates is great. I'm usually not a fan of sour cream but somehow finished my rice with the sour cream. Luke orderd carne asada. Instead of showing up as slided meat the dish came as two pieces of thin steaks. The steak is probably tendered, marinated with lime and salt before slightly grilled and served. I'm curious if it's possible to replicate the same taste back home. Folks in this town apparently have no idea what great Mexican food is. The taqueria section of this menu is amazing! I would eat everything on the menu right now. I'm 6' and 200 lbs, so I can't really do that. I'm here on Sunday evening and there's nobody here in on the patio, the dinning room or the bar. The place is pretty nice too. I ordered the Biarri - don't know if I spelled that right - tacos. OMFG. Those are THE BEST TACOS I've ever had. Maybe one of the best meals I've ever had the pleasure of eating. I'm in awe. The wife ordered some quesadillas and Mexican guacamole. That was really good too, but I can't say enough about those tacos. The beef is slow cooked for 6 hours, so they bring it with some of stock juice on the side. I don't think the restaurant is in the right location. They're next to a funeral business in a decent strip mall. I think they could be like private jet wealthy if they moved next to the Hilton on the beach. They'd be so busy you'd never get a table. read more

I went here with my mom after a movie on Sunday. I ordered the Tacos de Birria and my mom had chicken enchiladas. The Birria was excellent along with the dipping sauce, the tomatillo sauce and the rice and beans! My mom said her chicken enchiladas tasted like pork however? Chips and salsa were served.
