An experience so nice, we went twice! We discovered this lovely gem on a recent stay in Daytona Beach. Our first night in town, we seemed to be striking out on restaurants that offered more than one or two items gluten free. That is, until I found the menu online for mama foo foo. I can say with confidence that Mama Foo Foo knows how to do gluten free food the right way. Our first visit was for dinner, and the ambiance was on point. Perfectly lit, short wait, cool art, and great music. The waitress was very knowledgeable about gluten free options, and even offered alternatives when she discovered that they were out of gluten free crackers for the burrata and fig. My dinner, the honey glazed scallops with lobster risotto and grilled carrots, was prepared perfectly. The staff was attentive, refilling drinks and water and checking in regularly. Price was very reasonable for the quality of food. A solid five star visit. It was so good in fact that we came back a few days later for brunch to enjoy their signature wagyu smash burger. I opted for the breakfast version (fried egg, avocado and tomato relish toppings) while my husband went with the more traditional lunch version. Again, the waiter was attentive and immediately knew to advise me that the fries were dusted with flour and offered alternatives. The grapefruit dressing on the salad was delish! First I want to highlight our server/waiter - Joshua - he was absolutely incredible handling our group. He was a true professional, engaging and truly a pleasure! This was the second time that I have brought a large group (10+) to MFF and the food did not disappoint. Between the craft cocktails and mocktails, there is something for everyone. It is a place that is great for smaller dining parties; larger parties beware-beware-beware. However, our dining experience arrived when the check came. We politely asked to split the bill after mentioning we would need that done prior to putting in any orders. After some back and fourth a woman came out (assuming she was the GM or manager of the evening) and asked, arms spread, "WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE TABLE!?". The entire table was taken aback by how that question was asked, because now she garnished everyone's attention. My coworker said, "that would be me". Immediately, without hesitation the woman shouted at her "WE DO NOT SPLIT CHECKS AND YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THAT WHEN YOU BOOKED IT AND IT'S ON OUR WEBSITE!!!" Truth be told it's not on the website and after doing research it is VERY hidden on the third party booking site. Her overall professionalism was incredibly lacking. We felt pointed out and embarrassed in the middle of figuring out the bill. Our dining experience leading up to that, was diminished in a few short seconds. As someone who is in town 2-3 times a year and comes to MFF with a large group each time, this is the first and last time someone is going to treat me any my people that way. Was looking for a quick bite for dinner and some drinks and elected Mama Foo Foo. This place is a nice restaurant that doubles as a lounge/party spot. There is a large parking lot and ample space to park. I opted to sit at the bar for convenience but there is a ton of seating for dining. The service was not the best but I did manage to get my drinks without issue. I ended up having to get my burger to go. Other than the service, the drinks were great and for what it's worth, the burger really did hit the spot. Just a shame I had to enjoy it at my hotel room. The service could have been a little more on point, (we came at about 4 so they must have been going through shift change and doing there side work to leave) but thanks to the rest of the staff the food came out promptly and everything was great. The little one also ordered fried pickles (not pictured) they were fried pickles. I'm personally not a fan of them to begin with but I did find myself eating a few. We also ordered 3 desserts some chocolate mouse thing that was amazing, the not so keylime pie was awesome, and the lady took home the carrot cake. The restaurant over looks the harbor and had an amazing view, I recommend the outside seating. The music was loud but not so loud that we couldn't engage in conversation. At 10 o'clock they have a DJ spinning the latest songs. The food was so good. We had the buffalo deviled eggs, chicken satay, short ribs and skirt steak. I learned a few years ago that you never do Valentine's Day on Feb 14th and this visit proves it. We arrived at 9 for our 9:15pm reservation but on Feb 13 and were seated at our reservation time. Our server came over immediately and started us with waters and returned to take our appetizer order. We started with the deviled eggs and tuna poke. Both outstanding! For dinner we ordered the pasta bolognese and the pan seared scallops, both recommended by our server but on our original list to try. Everything was perfect. Seasoned enough, scallops were cooked perfect and the piece of garlic bread I stole from my husband was really good as well. We ended the meal with the peanut butter cheese cake and marshmallow chocolate pudding. The service couldn't have gotten any better and all of our food was delicious! Our waiter did warn us that the night turns to a club around 10pm but was stayed and it didn't start until around 10:40 so it's not definite. The music was loud originally but you could hear the difference when they turned it up for the partying. Overall, the night couldn't have been any better! Everything was a 10/10 for me. When we first walked in I had mentioned to my husband that I was a little nervous as it was the night before Valentine's Day but there was barely anyone in the place. My appetizer was fabulous: Steak Tips Crostini, on a bed of horseradish and au jus. Excellent presentation and great taste. My friend got a burger but - at least from the looks - not as impressive as my choice (the crostini). I wished I have taken a pic of my crostini but I jumped on it with all my senses... and devoured it quick. On a down side... it took extremely long to have the appetizers!!! Initial Reaction: probably the only decent restaurant in downtown Daytona Beach, Mama Foo Foo is a solid gastropub that offers so delicious dining options and refreshing cocktails. The layout has almost an Asian feel with darker ambient tones towards the front of the establishment and brighter towards the back deck where the east end of the bar is located. If you have a table by the bar, depending on the time of day, the acoustics will become deafening based on the amount of clientele situated there. When we first arrived and had a table in between the end of the bar and doorway to the outer deck, the noise levels were reasonable where you could hold a conversation. About 30 minutes into our stay, we had a group of people take the bar stools across from our table, and the sound grew louder from there, especially since the drinks were flowing. So keep that in mind if you are looking for a quieter area for a table, that is not the place, especially during peak hours. The kitchen screwed up my wife's order where she had ordered the gluten free rigatoni bolognese and they did the regular one instead. My wife who is celiac, realized this quickly and reported it to the server who made sure she had the correct order. Wasn't the server's fault as he had given the right order. Outside of that snafu, the Honey Sesame Scallops I ordered were incredibly delightful and flavorful with the risotto. The Saffron Arancini was a little too salty with the marinara but they were well fried and prepared. Cocktail-wise was very good between the gin-based 21 Again drink with coconut milk, pineapple, lime, vanilla, and aqua faba. The tequila-forward Diablo was a zesty second choice with the cassis, ginger, lime, gomme, and soda. The restaurant does deliver food wise but be careful if you are gluten free that the kitchen doesn't screw up the order. And depending on when you go, if you are looking for more quiet surroundings, make sure to be seated somewhere away from the bar closer to the front. read more

Y'all! This place makes going out in Daytona Beach near beach street like stepping into a Miami hot spot. My friend and I wanted treat ourselves to a culinary experience beyond the chain restaurants and pub fare that sprawl across DB, so we hit up Mama Foo Foo's Happy Hour. They did not disappoint with gorgeously crafted cocktails that rival drinks by seen or be seen nightlife menus. I tried one of their Edible Cocktails (aka Jell-O shots), which was like a tropical party punch in my mouth. I will be back to indulge in a flight next time. Foods: a wonderful mix of cultures delight both their Happy Hour menu and Main Board. Their Saffron Arancini has become one of my favorite dishes to start with. So far, I have not been disappointed by any nibbles selected during my stay. Shout out to the bar staff who not only took their time to answer any questions but made our evening fun. Not even the ridiculously spartan uncomfortable high top booths( just a wood bench, no cushions) get happy hour pricing. Want a somewhat comfortable seat? Full price for you. The menu is small but offers some great choices. We've tried different items on each visit and haven't been disappointed in anything we tried. We did however find the Smash burger was overwhelmed by the sauce so much so that we couldn't taste the burger. When we mentioned this to Kate she offered to remake the burger without the sauce. My wife and I came a couple of months ago to Mama Foo Foo to celebrate her birthday, and this was our experience. A lot of the reviews mentioned this being a great place to eat and take aesthetic photos. Upon entering, the restaurant was nicely dimmed, with soft EDM music playing in the background. I was very impressed with the style and atmosphere of Mama Foo Foo--9/10. Our server was very nice and gave us great recommendations for both our appetizers and entrées. Appetizers: The Saffron Arancini, made with arborio rice, fontina cheese, marinara, and parmesan, was definitely a great start to our night. It was soft yet tender, and the amount of marinara sauce inside was perfect--10/10. The Burrata & Fig, made with burrata cheese, house-made fig jam, sourdough, and basil, was iconic. The in-house fig jam was perfect. I wish I could take it home with me. The bread was toasted to perfection. This is a must-have appetizer--10/10. Entrées: I had the Wagyu Double Smash Burger. It was made with American wagyu beef, cheddar, bacon tomato jam, shredded lettuce, pickles, onions, and French fries. As far as smash burgers go, this was very underwhelming. The patties themselves didn't look smashed at all. The taste felt very bland. The fact that it was made with wagyu beef intrigued me enough to order; however, it was not worth it--5/10. My wife got the Rigatoni Bolognese. It was made with slow-cooked house beef bolognese, whipped ricotta, basil, and garlic bread. I took a few bites of this, but it wasn't to my liking. It felt like I ordered regular pasta and beef. -- 6/10 Overall: Mama Foo Foo's ambiance really impressed me with its beautiful architecture, cool music, and very tasteful small plates. We probably just went on the wrong night. We had a reservation for four and we were sat on time. We passed a couple company Christmas parties and it looked like no one had their food yet. So we were eager to order and get our food going, because we had plans for after dinner. Service was ok at first but then completely fell apart. Our server, Josh, looked like Ben affleck. The first cocktail I ordered was unavailable. Apparently they batch it and they were out. It took awhile for our cocktails to arrive. We ordered appetizers and entrees to get it moving. It took 1.5 hours before my mom's side salad arrived. It was a Cesar salad, and did not have any croutons and severely lacked in dressing. I sent it back. The manager came out and said they were out of croutons so I told him to find some toast points. He said he would see what he could do. Excuse me? You're the manager. Get it done. Luckily, he did. The wrong appetizer came to our table and I refused it. Maybe that's why no one had their food. They were making mistakes. Our drinks ran dry. Our server was no where to be found. We went to the bar to try to order more drinks. The bartender said he would come by our table. Lies. He never came. We finally flagged our server down and I mentioned that he disappeared. He said some story about a prank call that his mother had been shot and therefore he was on the phone trying to figure out how to help his mom. He finally realized it was a joke. Ha! Some joke. What a jerk who did that. I then proceeded to order TWO drinks at once so I would not again be left dry. The mussels were good but they were literally cooked and then placed on top of the sauce. The sauce needs to be IN them. The cauliflower was the best appetizer. The tuna was standard fare. When the food came out, the burger bun was pathetic. It looked like the potato bun you get in a 24 pack at Costco. The fries were good and the burger was fine despite the cheap bun. My mom's linguini shrimp looked fine. My dad's fish and chips was a huge portion. My husband's fish was burned on one side. The Asian slaw had no sauce- was completely dry. How can anyone eat that? The grits were good. We skipped dessert because it took three hours for the four of us to eat dinner. The timing was absolutely terrible. We hustled the server to get our check so we could make it to Daytonas magic of lights before they closed. We barely made it. Bathrooms are clean. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. The menu looks amazing but the kitchen is lacking in execution. Service was abhorrent. I mean I'm sorry for the prank call, but that's not on me. We will not be back to eat again. I love coming here for a special occasion! The scallops are the best thing on the menu in my opinion. My fiancé always gets the burger. We also love the corn rib appetizer and the cocktail selection.
