Good food good service prices alil high but an you really put a price on good quality

This place was Fire!!! COURTEOUS and CLEAN! SIMPLY A GREAT ENVIRONMENT. Even the guests were nice. We found this place on Yelp with over 300 reviews. And they still had 4 stars! We had to try it and boy was it worth it. I wanted to dance when I took my first bite of my omelette. I felt like the inspector on the movie ratatouille. I saw stars and had some great memories of my moms home cooking. It is about just eating some GREAT FOOD in a clean and friendly environment. I even over heard a guest say this place was the best part of Indio. Esther was the best waitress ever. And we will be back tomorrow Lord willing for there German pancake! read more

Ordered 2 salmon dinners. Surprisingly the food was not great, this was a first negative experience. The mashed potatoes were super salty and so is the salmon. The green salad was old and lettuce was like freezer burned or I can't even describe it, it went straight to the garbage. Big price for the food not to be good. I will post pictures later. read more

Visiting from out of town and Sloans was recommended to us by locals. We were very satisfied with the service and food quality.

If your looking for a great breakfast to help start your day, Sloan's is the place. My favorite is the Supreme Omelette and you get two sides which there are many choices you can choose from to help satisfy just about any craving you have. Oh, and my wife who is pretty picky says there pancakes are the best she has ever had, anywhere!!! The owner and staff that greets you in at the front desk always greets you in with a smile, but try not to get there during rush hour or you'll have a wait of 15-20 minutes on average which should tell you how delicious there food really is. Along with good food, Kathy served us and her service was impeccable!!! She greeted us with a smile and kept coming back to keep our water glass full and to see if we needed anything else. A brunch spot with mom and pop vibes. Service was great. They accommodated to all our needs from an extra chair to making sure we're hydrated to providing all the condiments etc. Food came out really slowly. We probably waited a solid 30 mins. That was the only downside. The portions were HUGE though and food was delicious. All my friends and I got some sort of omlette and it comes w hash/home fries and toast/pancakes/biscuit. I got the chicken fry omlette in scramble form. It hit the spot. There was peppers and potatoes in the scramble and finished off w gravy. The home fries were nice and crispy. The hash brown was, as well. The biscuit was ok. I wish it was fluffier and crispier but the gravy was great. The pancakes looked SOOO soft and pillowy. Overall, a solid choice. This was our first time here. On travel from New Mexico, this town was in our path for dinner. Great reviews, so here we are. Okay, I had the chicken pot pie! It was absolutely great! The portion was huge. Not what I expected. Good thing my hubby helped with it. We also had the Talpia Fish. It was just okay- a bit fishy. The beef stew was amazing. Great flavors. Nothing fancy here but that not a bad thing!! Reminds me of a good old fashion coffee shop with great comfort food and yummy breakfast. With hipster and trendy restaurants taking over its nice to find a basic family non chain restaurant that offers amazing comfort food and a drink. Food was delicious and the service was friendly and warm. The chicken fried steak and Salisbury steak were like homemade classics. Wish I could recall the male servers name along with the female manager because they were fabulous. The homemade coconut syrup was scrumptious. They have a full bar too!! Whikle staying in Indio, we wanted to try something new, We looked on Yelp and found Sloans. The outside lokks like a normal place, so at first we drove right passed it. We turned around and found it on the corner of a strip mall. Notthe best location, but it will do. The parking lot had some huge pot holes in it, so be careful if you have older people with you. It reminded me of a cracker barrel as you first walk in as there are double doors that are pretty heavy, this must be from all the wind they get here. The menu was extreemly huge, it was overwhelming, so we asked our server what she recommended, her responce was everything. So we asked aging, really whats her favorite she said she was a vegetarian. this is not looking good for us to get soem great feedback. We continued to look on Yelp for what people recccommend, because our server wasnt any help. As we started to give her our order she asked us what sides we would like, you get to pick two. We got an omelet with potatoes and toast, Eggs benedict with pancakes and hash browns. Let me be the one that says you can just order one plate and share with another. Plates just keep coming out with tons of food on them. By far the best thing was the country potatoes, perfectly seasoned, it just would have been great if they seasoned the omelets. Bland, bland, bland. Tasted eggs with oiled vegetables. You could have pourded off 1/2 cup of oil from this omelet. Other than that, you will not leave this place hungry, but Im pretty sure you wont finish it all either. The cost of the bill was under 25.00. Not a bad deal for all the food. But there was alot of waste going into the bin. Im sure they do great business for their guests, but they could do better when it comes to seasoning all their food. I came here because I read the positive yelp reviews. Unfortunately, it was very underwhelming. I came here with a party of 5 and the service was very slow. I ordered an omelette with hash browns and pancakes. The pancakes had NO flavor at all; the hash browns were crunchy, which i appreciated, but again, there was no flavoring or seasoning. The omelette was strangely thin. Usually, I expect an omelette to be thick and fluffy. In my opinion, the breakfast is a bit expensive for what you get. This place was edible, but I would not get out of bed early for breakfast to come here again. I wonder what I am missing since the yelps are overall good? Maybe something changed and ill give it a try in another couple of years when I am in the area. read more

The older man acting like a professional host , is the rudest person alive, will never go back there again. His attitude towards people is unacceptable, I usually take my family and friends there every time we get a chance, now I take them elsewhere. After visiting a sick relative at JFK Hospital, wifie & I went just about a half-mile or so down Dr. Carreon Blvd. to get something to eat. I was in the mood for down-home American, though there are some pretty good Mexican and Italian places nearby. Sloan's (formerly Elmer's) is just the place and I have eaten there just about every time that I have been in Indio. After perusing all the menu options, I decided on the fish & chips from the senior menu. For some reason I didn't have to show my ID this time. Most perplexing. Usually people say I don't look my age. Anyway, the fish (senior menu has two pieces instead of the usual three, but that's fine by me) came with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, and a bottle of malt vinegar, plus a good pile of French fries. Freedom fries. Whatever. Anyway, I ate the whole thing with great gusto. (Sloan's does not provide gusto -- you'll have to bring your own.) If you are looking for American food but don't care for the bland and totally predictable stuff at IHOP or Denny's, check out this place. read more

I consider Sloan's a rare treat, and manage to get there every three or four months. I've been going there since it was Elmer's (they changed over about five years ago as part of an ownership change), and they're amazingly consistent. I've tried about everything on the menu - Eggs Benedict, the Dutch Baby, the mixed grill (back when I was on Atkins, but that's another story)... Nowadays I normally get a Supreme omelette and pancakes ($10). The omelette is a three-egg omelette that comes out HUGE, has sautéed mushrooms and ham, with a nice sauce on top, and three of the best pancakes I've ever tasted, with the best regular ol' syrup I've ever had. Order the hash browns extra crispy, and they come out... extra crispy. My wife loves their oatmeal, which you can order with bananas, blueberries, or something else. She usually loses focus after one of the first two options... :-) The servings are seriously huge, so Sloan's is actually better for me as a brunch place, because I can have a late breakfast and not eat until dinner. It's that big. The service is excellent. They have waitresses who have been there since Mr. Omelette first thought "what would happen if I whisked this egg with some milk?" They never get orders wrong (I know, I know, knock wood on that, but we've been running a six-year winning streak, duh!). Even better, they have The Coffee Girls, who run around filling cups whenever they're even a little bit down. I know, I just made up the TCG nickname, but if you go around breakfast time, you'll get it. There are few things wrong with having a smiling and friendly breakfast visitor who brings. more. coffee. That's a great plus - people who just show up to bring coffee means the waitresses and busboys can focus on that instead. First, we tried to go into this restaurant at the front door, that was closed, so we used another one, that leaded through a weird, western looking dark bar, beer, and cigarette smell, nobody was smoking, but the aroma was probably in the walls for a long time. Arrived to the restaurant area. That was another adventure..of course the AC was blowing right onto the table..Asked for a menu, the waitress told us, no menu, only QR scan. It was a very difficult site, not logical at all. Meanwhile my wife did find a menu lol.. The waitress took her time, we ordered, of course everything was mixed up, the waitress blamed the manager..Oh, and the place was extremely noisy, due to a birthday party, in the middle of the room. Next day came down with a very bad cold, probably because of AC blowing to my head? Anyway, this was a bad experience, hopefully not too many people has the same. We definitely never visit again, once was enough, thank you.. Thanks Yelp...once again! Out in the desert with no place to go for breakfast, I headed to trusty Yelp to satisfy us of our breakfast cravings. We headed to the middle-of-nowhere-Indio and stopped by this super old-school restaurant for some good breakfast. Decor was crazy old school verging on tacky..I don't think they've changed anything about this restaurant for decades. But what they lacked in ambiance, they made up for in breakfast. We had a great waiter...super efficient, remembered every little detail. After reading Jacqueline's review below, I wanted to try the Dutch Baby pancakes. I'm a sucker of Dutch pancakes and will refuse to eat anything else when we're in Solvang - - so, needless to say, I was excited. I'm not going to lie...the Dutch pancakes were not anywhere near as yummy as the ones in Solvang and the ones I've had in Europe...but considering we were in Indio..I was impressed. One of my friends got an egg-white vegetarian omelet (yay for Indio..impressed again) and this omelet was ginormous! She was super satisfied and super happy with her omelet. Another friend ordered a huge portion of French Toast and was also super happy. For diner coffee, their coffee was also pretty good...a pleasant surprise in this random city. When we're out in the desert again, we'll definitely partake in our breakfast indulgences here. read more

I think A-Ok is exactly how I would describe this place. The food here is good but nothing to write home about. Service was attentive even though they were slammed during Coachella weekend. Sloan's is definitely a notch above Denny's or IHOP, and it is a great place to load up before heading into a day in the sun at Coachella. The portions are huge and the quality is good. They serve alcohol which is nice, as well. The favorite thing I had when I was at Sloan's last week was the fried chicken. The skin was so crispy and yummy. I did not want to share my food. The waffles were also super fluffy and delicious. The french toast was OK; I wasn't super impressed. I'll definite visit Sloan's again next time I'm back in town for Coachella. read more

I'll give it 5 stars because it surprised the hell out of me. I went here once a long time ago and it seemed average to me. I've since changed my mind. It is a very "Denny's" type of place, without the big chain vibe. Its pretty homey and the prices are good for the amount of food we get. I pay around 10 bucks and I get thick french toast, eggs, hash browns and sausage/bacon and I believe regular toast as well. You know a place is good when when they give you a gracious amount of thick-sliced bacon and it's cooked perfectly. We usually go there for breakfast but once I ordered a BLT and it was DELICIOUS: toasted bread, thick slices of everything, crispy, chunky criss-cut fries and a pickle on the side. MMMM. On our way back to long beach, we wanted some real American breakfast. I seen sloan's on Yelp and decided to give it a try. As we entered the host sat us down right away, the waitress came right after . We ordered the Ranchers breakfast ($9) which included bone in Ham, 2 eggs and you had 2 choices between hashbrown,toast, French toast , pancakes or waffle. Was on the way home from the coast. We decided to drive the back way through Temecula. So, we hit 111 and were about to get on I-10 back to AZ. However the kids got hungry. I passed by the place and thought it looked OK so I pulled in. At first I thought it was a bar, with all the beer/booze signs twinkling in the window. However some older people walked out and did not stagger, so I figured some food was to be had. We were seated right away (was really after the lunch crowd). My coffee was almost filled before I sat down, she was quick. Our waiter was this crazy looking filipino guy (I think). Besides some upscale places I have been where the waiters make more than I do, this guy was probably the best waiter I have ever had. He probably never smiled, but I would prefer effeciency to kiss-your-assness. Anyway, the man was on top of it (and his hair was sticking straight up and gave him a good 4 more inches in height. Awesome). So I got the chili and salad combo (blue cheese). Decent fare. The biscuit that came with the chili was awesome, I have to say. I was sad to see it vanish in about 30 seconds. Chili was decent. Salad was fine, dressing was fine. My wife got this 'chicken tender' sandwhich dealio. It had swiss on it, and she pronounced it good. My kid got the mac n cheese (not that good, it looked like the Kraft out of the box. Which is fine, but not at a restaurant. They should use larger noodles.) The other kid got the chicken tenders. Decent, but the ranch dressing to dip was not that good. Too runny. Luckily he likes ketchup with his normally. By the way the crazy waiter brought two ketchups, good man. Drinks were filled at a breakneck pace. Service was awesome. I tipped the guy around 35% and on the way out told the manager on duty he was great, and that the tip was there so he can buy some more gel to keep that crazy 'do going. read more

First time trying this place out. We saw the Yelp pictures of the Bloody Mary and we were sold. Once we got there we were seated pretty fast. We ordered the Bloody Mary and they brought the toppings of the Bloody Mary on a different plate because they had ran out of the skewers. The drink itself was so salty that it was impossible to drink it, so we had to send it back. Then we ordered our omelet. It took over 45 minutes until the food came out. It looks amazing, but I wish it tasted as good as it looked. It was so bad that neither of us could finish our plate. Our server was so sweet and caring.
